JuanDeDios: Interesting. So what's the fate of their law graduates? They will surely go to law school. NOUN had a batch in law school and they were the best of the sets then. NOUN law graduates are waiting for another batch to be called. |

Abee79: Judging from the recent (bad) news emanating from NOUN, here are my humble postulations: 1. The NOUN management is grossly incompetent and lacks vision; or 2. There is a coordinated strategic attack against NOUN (by the archaic cabals of the Educational Sector) aimed at thoroughly discrediting & taking them out of business.
But, what do I know? 🤔😞💔 Bros, you are wrong with your first insinuation. I have a first hand experience of what NOUN entails. If you want to know about NOUN, then you can let me know. If not, don't criticise what you don't know |
Education › Re: NOUN Scraps Law Programme, Leaves Over 1000 Students' Career In Jeopardy by Fkj202004: 9:27pm On Jul 05, 2024 |
Well NOUN is not to be blamed. There was an issue with law school and NOUN stopped admitting fresh law students since 2015 and allowed those still studying the course to graduate since 2015.
From 2015 to 2023 is 8 years, all the law students are supposed to have graduated but due to the unserious nature of some students, they didn't graduate for over 8 years for a programme of 5 years.
I can confirm to all of you that NOUN recently graduated a lot of law students that finished their programmes. The ones that didn't graduate are the ones that failed some courses or didn't finish their projects.
Before closing the programme in final semester of 2023, NOUN gave all law students still studying to round up by second semester of 2023 because the programme will be finally closed in preparation for a fresh opening. So why didn't the students use the 2 semesters of 2023 to finish their programme?
Also, NOUN gave the law students that didn't graduate two options: switch to another programme within the university or transfer your credits to other universities and continue from there.
So why are you guys blaming NOUN? Investigate before putting out blames |

olulove: Hello House, I have been having issues with my name appearing on the graduation list after doing all my course work, project, siwes and seminars inclusive since 2018, I don't know who to contact again. My course of study is B.sc Communication Technology.
i have been to my study centre at Ilorin several time as all efforts to get this issue resolved as proven abortive.
I seriously need help as I need this certificate to apply for my PG study abroad.
House, Kindly assist with contact of a resource person in the HQ that can be of help..as this is becoming frustrating for me. Write a letter to your head of department through your study centre requesting why you haven't seen your name on the graduation list. |

biggboy: Good evening experienced bosses and seniors. I still need help here on how to go about my Enquires, please. Firstly, since you dropped 2 courses, you have to register them afresh (both course and Exam). Secondly, you don't need to register project again. What you have to do is to meet your Desk Officer and kick start the process of writing your project. |

frexarik: Good day,Is it possible for student not access result in his portal but when the desk officer access it through their system the result (Project result)was there but she said i should wait for graduant list. because the project result is the only thing Im waiting for and the results has been release since feb. Maybe you didn't check when results were released to students' portal. Thus, it is possible because they sometimes remove results from the portal. If she has confirmed your project score and you don't have any outstanding courses, then do as she says. |

Education › Re: What I Saw In National Open University. by Fkj202004: 9:26pm On Jul 11, 2021 |
shortgun: It's a pity that NOUN is structured just as every other public tertiary institution in the country. The purpose of higher education is defeated in our universities. The purpose of higher education is to stimulate the ability for undergraduates to think for themselves and proffer solutions to societal problems in their own innovative ideas. It is even more tasking for the students if it is distance learning.
In universities abroad students will get a low grade or get penalised when they copy the exact words or phrases of their lecturers, instructors or other people's work, students will be punished when they use the same method in solving a new assignment that they used in a previous one(students are expected to cite their own previous work). You will even get more punishment or fail a course when you do so without proper citations and references. Students are not allowed more than 7-10 % citations in their assignments, exams, e.t.c you will fail the course if it's more.
Generally, tests, assignments and exams should reflect how well each student understands the subject and how they will explain them in their own words not the lecturer's words.
What is happening in NOUN and every other university in the country is just copy and paste, I doubt 90% of the students are learning, we are just expected to cram as much as possible and fill in the gaps during assignments and exams, your answer to a question will be wrong if you substitute a word with the same meaning with another word(synonym) in your course materials, text book or handout.....this is not learning. It is funny that the same lecturers that discouraged creativity and innovation will expect students to be innovative when writing their projects or during project defence.
Higher education is not based on cramming, copy and paste or the lecturer's understanding of a subject it's foundation is based on the student's ability to understand concepts and ability to process those concepts into ideas that is unique and innovative.
I was really thinking that NOUN will be different from every other university in the country but just like every other institution it have been infected with the Nigerian factor. To an extent, you are right. The aspect of copying and pasting in Examination like you pointed out in NOUN is experienced in E-exams (written by 100 and 200level; GST courses for 700 and 800level students) where Students are expected to read their textbooks from front to back and word to word. If I may ask, how many synonyms does a word have? This is the main reason why Students have to input the exact words they have read in their textbooks. This in a way shows that students actually studied their textbooks. Remember that 300level and above write Pen-On-Paper (POP) Examinations where their creativity comes into force. Like I said, you are right to some extent but you can't take it away from NOUN as the number one public institution that utilizes ICT in nearly all it's operations including non-examinable courses. There are issues with every learning institution both within and outside Nigeria. Therefore, NOUN will be better and stronger. |

I abandoned my program at 400L in 2015, although i have passed all exams upto first semester 400L in mass communication except project and 3 other courses, now i want to go back and finish up.
Any advise on how to get back in next semester? Currently i can still log in as a returning student.
Any tips will be appreciated! Very easy. When registration begins next month, register your courses and project. Begin the process of writing your project, do TMAs, read your books and write your exams. That's the beauty of NOUN. You can stop and start from wherever you stopped whenever you want to come back. |
