PoliticsWike Blasts PDP Senators, Reps Over NASS Election by Flashyoil1(op): 3:55pm On Jun 15, 2019
Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has delivered a damning verdict on most of the Senators and House of Representatives members elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over their roles in the election of National Assembly principal officers on Tuesday.

Most of them, he said, betrayed the party and are unworthy of trust.

He accused them of selling out on the positions of the party during the heated exercise.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP, early Tuesday morning, endorsed Senator Ali Ndume for the senate presidency.

The party also instructed its members in the House of Representatives to support the ambition of Hon Umaru Bako to become Speaker.

Wike, according to impeccable sources, mobilised NWC members to push through the endorsements despite the initial reluctance of the party to do so.

It was gathered but for Wike’s frantic efforts, the PDP wouldn’t have endorsed Ndume or Bago for the National Assembly principal posts.

The PDP supported Ike Ekeremadu for deputy senate presidency. But despite the endorsements, Senator Ahmed Lawan won with 79 votes to Ndume’s 28.

This is despite the fact that PDP boasts of not less than 46 senators.

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege was elected deputy senate president with 68 votes to Ekeremadu’s 37.

In the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila scored 281 votes to knock out Bago with 76.

Yet, PDP members in the Lower Chamber are over 140, fuelling speculations most of them ignored directives of the party.

Speaking on the disloyalty of the PDP NASS members on Friday, Wike said they sold “out themselves for one plate of porridge.’’

He said it was the typical act of politicians, most of whom he said he does not trust at all.

The governor, while receiving visiting Bishops of the Anglican Province of the Niger Delta at the Government House, Port Harcourt said he rather trust only God who, he noted, never changes.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha has warned fraudsters to desist from issuing false information to the general public.

A statement issued on Friday by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office (OSGF), Olusegun Adekunle reads “The attention of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, has been drawn to false information circulating on the social media and through text messages, urging members of the public to submit their Curriculum Vitae at a fee, to a non-existing desk at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, to facilitate their selection as Cabinet Members.

CrimeMaxwell Ikechuku Okoye Tortured To Death By South African Police by Flashyoil1(op): 7:52pm On Jun 14, 2019
Another Nigerian , Maxwell Ikechuku Okoye, from Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State, has been allegedly killed by members of the South African Police Service.

The Vice-President, Nigerian Union in South Africa, Mr Joshua Ogade Itua, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone from Pretoria that Okoye was allegedly tortured to death on Friday in Ladysmith, Kwa-zulu-Natal Province.

The Police, according to the Chairman of Nigerian Union South Africa, Ladysmith Chapter, went to the apartment of the deceased and forced their way in.

“While they were with him, he called to alert other Nigerians but before they could get to his apartment the police had made away with his body. Maxwell’s lifeless body was later seen at the mortuary,” he said.

Itua said that NUSA leaders then went to the police for fact- finding, noting that his death has added to the number of Nigerians that were killed either by the Police or through Xenophobia in that country.

“The Station Commander of Ladysmith claimed that he was met foaming at the time they gained entry to his apartment.

“Police murder inquest has been opened and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) in Kwa-zulu-Natal province have been informed for full investigation.

“Our condolence to his family and Nigerian Community in Ladysmith. We call on our government to seriously engage its counterparts in South Africa for investigation and prosecution if not a natural death.

“This is because, according to our leaders who went to the mortuary, there are bruises and blood all over his body so we have every reason to believe that he was tortured to death.

“Our stand as foremost Nigerian organisation in South Africa is that all cases involving the killings of Nigerians should be investigated and prosecuted irrespective the nationality and status of the perpetrators,” he told NAN.

Maxwell was born on October 5, 1979 and is survived by two children.

PoliticsWe’ll Pass Budget Within 3 Months – Lawan by Flashyoil1(op): 7:23pm On Jun 14, 2019
President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan says henceforth the National Assembly (NASS) will ensure the passage of the nation’s appropriation bill within three months of its submission by the Executive arm of government.
Lawan stated this known when he fielded questions from State House correspondents after joining President Muhammadu Buhari to perform the weekly Friday’s Juma’at prayer at the Aso Rock Mosque, Abuja.

He, however, expressed the hope that the executive would always ensure early submission of the budget enable the assembly deliberate and pass it in good time.

“Well, this is a crucial thing that worries everyone, every Nigerian wants to see the National Assembly passes the budget in good time and what we have in mind we’ve campaigned with that and it’s something both of us in the National Assembly have bought into – that we’ll pass the budget within three months by the grace of God.

“But I want to say here that it takes two sides of government to pass the budget in good time.

“I am sure that the executive side of the government would like to present the budget before the National Assembly in good time – in September or early October.

“By the grace of God, we in the National Assembly will ensure that we carry out the budget defence and do the remaining parts of the processes and before we leave for Christmas break, the budget would have been passed and Mr President would have the budget before him to assent,’’ he said.

The senate president, therefore, called for sacrifice by both the assembly and the executive so as to create “a window for budget defence only, a dedicate period and timeframe- say a month of which only budget defence will be carried out in the national assembly.

“It is our desire in the National Assembly that every minister, every chief executive officer of every agency comes to the National Assembly and defence the budget of his agency or her agency before going out of the country.

“That window is going to be available within the one month but that is the only window that is going to be available.

PoliticsOkorocha: INEC Gives Update On Court Orders by Flashyoil1(op): 6:44am On Jun 11, 2019
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will meet on Tuesday, regarding judgments and orders from various Courts of Law on issuance of Certificates of Return.

Mr Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja.

Okoye stated this while reacting to enquiry on the commission’s decision on a court order, directing it to issue Certificates of Return to a Senator and five House of Representatives members under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Bauchi State.

He said the commission was yet to take any decision regarding the judgement as its National Commissioners supervising state level review on the 2019 general elections just returned to Abuja.

“The Commission will meet tomorrow (Tuesday) regarding judgments and orders served on it from various Courts of Law.

“The Commission has not taken any decision relating to the matter you alluded to.

“The Commission may deal with all such issues and other pending ones tomorrow.

“National commissioners supervising State Level Review of the 2019 Elections returned to Abuja on Monday to clear all pending judgments and orders before heading back to their states of supervision,” Okoye said.

An FCT High Court on May 16 had ordered INEC to issue certificates of return to one Senator and five House of Representatives members elected under the platform the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State, who came second in the affected elections.

The court on Friday refused to grant an application for Stay of Execution of its judgement, which nullified the election of the affected senatorial district and five Federal Constituencies under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi state.

The FCT High Court, presided over by Justice Bello Kawu, rejected the application by the APC on stay of execution and ordered INEC to issue the PDP candidates with certificates of return.

The court had declared as null and void, the publication of the names of APC candidates as winners of the National Assembly election in the affected constituencies.

PoliticsNYSC: Sanwo-Olu Government To Involve Corpers In Construction Work by Flashyoil1(op): 3:20pm On Jun 10, 2019
The Lagos State Government has disclosed of its plans to involve the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members serving in the state in the construction of a permanent NYSC orientation camp at Agbowa in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos state, disclosed this plan on Monday during a courtesy visit by the Director-General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim and his management team at Alausa, Ikeja.

The Director-General of NYSC and his team were welcomed by the Deputy Governor, Mr Obafemi Hamzat on behalf of the governor.

He advised the NYSC management to deploy its engineering graduates currently serving in Lagos State to design the plan for the proposed camp, assuring them that the government would provide necessary support for the project.

“By involving those corps members that are engineers and serving in Lagos in the project, it will expose them to the world of work and broaden their knowledge in their field of specialisation.

“You can organise a competition for them to come up with various building plans and the NYSC will adopt the best out of them.

“We understand the essence of the scheme because we were once corps members too.

“Involving the corps members would make them to key-in into the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Scheme meant for corps members generally.”
He said that the corps members’ involvement would also be apt, particularly, now that the state government intended to commence the teaching of entrepreneurship in its public schools.

NAN reports that the Governor assured the NYSC management that the government would cooperate with the scheme in achieving its mandate in Lagos state.
In his remarks, Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim expressed appreciation to the Lagos state government for its support to the scheme over the years as well as appealed to the government to speed up the construction of the permanent orientation camp.

PoliticsAjimobi, Commissioners ‘stole’ Many Oyo Govt Vehicles – Makinde’s Aide, by Flashyoil1(op):
According to daily post
Chief Bisi Ilaka, the Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, Saturday alleged that the immediate past governor of the state, Mr. Abiola Ajimobi, his commissioners and other top government functionaries went away with many government vehicles, especially new ones bought at the end of 2018 and early this year.

Ilaka made this revelation while speaking with journalists in Ibadan, the state capital.

He explained that Makinde, his deputy and himself have been riding in their personal vehicles since assumption of office because there are no vehicles to work with.

Ilaka, who was asked to confirm report of 11 missing government vehicles, said the actual number of vehicles Ajimobi and his aides went away with, would be ascertained at the conclusion of forensic verification of government assets.

Ilaka said, “We have only been in government for barely a week and a half. But from what we have seen so far, the scale of larceny by the last government is unprecedented. Everybody knows that getting cars is not the problem of the immediate past governor. Why did he take away government vehicles?

“If Ajimobi goes to a car showroom and asks to be supplied 11 cars, they will deliver the cars to him because they know they will get paid. We will take the steps we deem necessary on this.

“It is not limited to him. His commissioners have gone away with vehicles same as the heads of parastatals. There are no vehicles there and a lot of these cars were bought by the end of 2018 and early this year. Some were boarded for pittance.

“When we came in, we felt that most of us who share the political space in Oyo State are one way or the other brothers. So, we don’t want to go out as if we are witch-hunting anybody. But they are forcing our hand.

“We have a responsibility to the people of the state. We need to protect the resources of the state. If we to replace these vehicles, it will at a cost to the state. Why did they do this?

“Even the local government chairmen went away with fridges and TVs. I can’t understand their mindset. They say a fish rots from the head. If the governors had done this, what did we expect the commissioners, chairmen and heads of parastatals would do?

“We are peeling the onion layer by layer and within the next week or two, we will strive to retrieve a lot of these government properties that they have stolen. There is no other word for it. It is theft. And that is the kind of rape inflicted on the state in the last eight years. It is gratuitous.”

Ilaka added that some officials in the state Ministry of Justice had told him that only five or six out of the 12 SUVs the past government said it bought for the judiciary were supplied.

He disclosed that the Director of Public Prosecution in the state would be empowered “to chase these people down any foxhole they might get into,” stressing that never again would the state be subjected to this kind of stealing it witnessed in the last eight years.

PoliticsSecond Term: ADP States Demands To Buhari by Flashyoil1(op): 7:58am On Jun 09, 2019
Alhaji Yabagi Sani, the National Chairman of ADP made the call in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.

According to him, this has become imperative to ensure a vibrant democracy and a stronger country.

The Action Democratic Party (ADP), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to develop a policy that would strengthen democratic institutions, economic restructuring, unity, peace and security in the country.

According to him, this has become imperative to ensure a vibrant democracy and a stronger country.

“As Nigeria marches into another political dispensation, I call on President Buhari in his second tenure to develop a policy toward strengthening our democratic institutions, economic restructuring, unity, peace and security.’’

He said that ADP which came up as a child of necessity on June 7, 2017, had introduced three fundamental principles for a credible political
platform to rescue the nation`s political space from imminent collapse.

This, he said, include: all-inclusiveness, democratic empowerment of women and youths, and party supremacy.

While thanking God for the existence of the party in the last two years, Sani said the period had been eventful and fulfilling, given the milestones achieved, especially in its membership growth.

“It is on record that ADP effectively participated in the 2019 general elections and emerged as the third most popular political party in the country.

“The party featured candidates in all elective positions, including the presidency and produced one member of Federal House of Representatives and one member of House of Assembly, all in Oyo State,” he said.

He congratulated members of the party, particularly its candidates at the last elections whose hard work, commitment and resilience were responsible for the feat.

Sani, while praying for the peace and unity of the country in President Buhari`s second term in office, enjoined Nigerians, especially members of the party to keep faith and remain committed to its ideals.

PoliticsHow Kano Residents Reacted To Ganduje, Sanusi’s Reconciliation by Flashyoil1(op): 6:33pm On Jun 08, 2019
According to some of them, the reconciliation was in the best interest of peace in the state and the nation.

Dr Abba Ahmed, a retired civil servant in the state, said the reconciliation provided much relief to many residents.

“I have been tensed since the issue started, especially that I live close to the Emirate where people have developed a high sentiment over the situation.”

He explained that the situation was one of the few bad things that could happen to Kano, thus commended Dangote’s committee for the action.

Malam Nura Muhammad, also a civil servant, told NAN that the reconciliation was timely as it would save the whole of Northern Nigeria a lot of trouble.

“Kano has indeed become a centre for democracy not only in the North but in the whole country and many states look up to it for new political strategies.

“It’s also a hub for traditional influence where the Emirate plays a vital role in global affairs, while the Emir himself has attracted global attention, ” he said.
