Former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has described the judiciary in Nigeria as “the Daniel that has always come to judgement.”

Okorocha addressed journalists in reaction to the court order that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, issue him with a certificate of return.

Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court had on Friday ruled in the matter between Okorocha and INEC over the seizure of his Certificate of Return.

The ex-governor said that whatever happened concerning his Certificate of Return was in the plan of God “so that the nation’s democracy can further be strengthened and rights of the citizenry also protected considering the pronouncement of the Court over the seizure of his Certificate of Return.”

Okorocha said that he has forgiven the Returning Officer in the Imo West Senatorial election, Prof. Innocent Ibeabuchi, who claimed that he declared him winner under duress “and all those who had played one role or the other to cause the ordeal he went through, over his Certificate of Return

PoliticsDelta: We Mustn’t Die Before You Know Your Activities Adversely Affecting Us by Flashyoil1(op): 5:49pm On Jun 07, 2019
The people of Polobubo (Tsekelewu) community in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State Friday urged Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, to quench the fire in Ikpalakpalabou oil well and embark on assessment of the toxic effects on residents and the immediate environment as well as pay varying monetary sums as compensation for the disaster.

The people made the call at a peaceful protest following the recent fire outbreak four days ago which has been degrading the land and life of the people.
National President of the community, Ebilate Mac-Yoroki, in a presentation co-signed by Midwest Kukuru, Secretary of Polobubou, said, “As we speak, there is a thick cloud of smoke over Polobubo, constantly raining soot and oil on our people. In this current situation, the oil-well fire has caused Polobubou and its people so much pains, loss and is leaving so much damages behind.
“Chevron should immediately send qualified medical doctors to start attending to all the sick and weak in the community.

“We don’t need to die before they will believe that their activities are seriously affecting us adversely. We need clean potable water urgently because even the ones we currently drink have been polluted from their sources.

“We urgently need all sorts of food stuffs because we no longer have access to our main source of livelihood; fishing, which is also our main source of food. Hunger is worsening in the community.
“We need Chevron to, with immediate effect, embark on a process of cleaning the waters within and surrounding the community immediately.

“This is because they provide life for seafood, it is still the only means of recreation for our children, but as it is currently polluted by crude oil and gas, we can’t fish, just as our children cannot swim in it. It is almost a ‘concentration camp’ experience for us currently.

“We are a community of peaceful and hardworking people, but besides the fact that Chevron has refused to give our people jobs, the natural environment that ought to have been their source of livelihood has been taken away from them by the activities of the company. In the light of this, we demand that Chevron pays compensation to every member of Polobubou.”
Mac-Yoroki also said Chevron Nigeria Limited should provide them with potable water, food, medical aid among other things.

He said they are hungry and in dire need of medical attention, stressing that the fire has polluted their lands.

Mac-Yoroki said, “Our water and food sources”has been polluted by the fire.

He lamented the “unfair treatment” the people have suffered despite its peaceful disposition towards Chevron Nigeria Limited.

“All entreaties to Chevron to save our from the toxic effects of this fire have yielded no result. A much more grievous injustice by this company that has feigned friendship, against our ever-welcoming and peaceful people is the ongoing attempt to cede our land to Ondo state and thereby fan another needless ethnic crisis,” he said.

In his reaction, the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro assured the people that the state government will not later than next Tuesday, send a delegation that may include CNL officials to assess the damage and proffer possible solutions to the issues raised.

He appreciated the community and its leadership for toeing the line of peace.

PoliticsRe: Rise To Power: The Unusual Stories Of New Governors by Flashyoil1(f): 12:35pm On May 29, 2019
Yes it is true
PoliticsAmaechi Replies Peter Obi: I’m More Relevant In National Politics Than You by Flashyoil1(op): 9:59pm On May 28, 2019
Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has again lashed out at the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Peter Obi, for saying that he (Amaechi) is not politically relevant to discuss whether Igbos should have the Presidency in 2023 or not.

Amaechi, who spoke on the sidelines, at an Interactive forum of Maritime Stakeholders in Lagos, said the former Anambra State Governor does not have the credibility to speak on the matter because he could not win the presidential election.

Amaechi also said right from when he became Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly till date his name has been in the front burner of national politics far more than Peter Obi.

Amaechi said that for the Igbos to get the Presidency in 2023, they must be part of “National Politics”.

According to Amaechi, “Peter Obi said I’m not an Igbo man and that I don’t have the locus to discuss whether Igbo Presidency will be or not in 2023. That comment is a very sad and cheap one from him.

“But the truth is that Peter Obi too does not have the locus to speak about Igbo Presidency because he and his party couldn’t win the presidential election.

“Aside from that, it’s most unfortunate that Peter Obi, a man I defeated to become the Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum(NGF), when we were both governors, can wake up today to say I am not relevant in the polity to talk about national issues when journalists ask me questions about it.

“I think what is important, which I have said to the Igbos severally is that they need to be part of national politics. If they are not part of National Politics they cannot be President.

“National Politics means that an Ikwerre man must have his interest covered by the Igbos If they want to be President. The Yoruba man must have the Igbos cover their interests, the Hausa, Fulani people must also be confident that their interests are covered by the Igbos.

“I support Igbo Presidency. I believe that it’s the Igbo turn to produce the next President of Nigeria because they have not been there before. The country will be unfair to the Igbos if they say it’s not their turn. But it can’t be your turn and you don’t want to fight for it. You want us to wake you up from sleep and say come and take, it is your turn? It doesn’t work like that and it will not work that way. So, Peter Obi should close his mouth. He lost an election which I won and that’s why President Buhari, not Atiku will be sworn-in tomorrow as President,” he explained.

PoliticsInauguration: Ohanaeze Sets Agenda For South-east Governors by Flashyoil1(op): 7:35pm On May 28, 2019
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, OYC, on Tuesday congratulated the South-East Governors on their re-election, urging them to prioritize economic integration of the zone.

This formed part of the press statement signed by the Secretary-General of the group, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike and the Deputy National President, Comrade Obinna Achuonye.

OYC said the re-election of the governors of Enugu, Abia and Ebonyi, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and Chief David Umahi, respectively, bore eloquent testimony to their sterling performances during their first term in office.

According to him, “a new dawn beckons in the South-East zone with the re-election of these governors, who have engraved their names in records of performance.

“We salute them for living to the promises made to the residents of their States, which had translated to their electoral victories.

“It is also important to take note and congratulate the Governor-elect of Imo State, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha for his victory.

“At this juncture, our message to the governors is that the period of electioneering is over. This is the time to work for the people.

“Before now, much has been said about economic integration of the South-East, so the time for action is now. We look forward to a robust and functional South-East Governors’ Forum.

“We urge the governor of Enugu State to use his second term towards hanessing the crude oil deposit at different areas of the state, like Oji River, Isi Uzo, Uzo Uwani etc. It will boost IGR, job creation and other benefits to oil communities.”

On the new National Minimum Wage, the OYC said, “we expect our governors to show the way. We know that Federal Allocation to our zone is always minimal but with the Igbo ‘can do spirit’, the sky will be your starting point. There is no doubt that workers deserve a better deal and every effort should be put in place to make it possible.”

They also called on those who lost out in the elections to close ranks and work with the Governors in other to move the zone forward.

“We take note of the effort in Enugu to see that the APC guber candidate withdraws his petition. Our stand is that same thing should happen in all the other States in the overall interest of the people,” they added.

PoliticsRivers Gov, Wike Identifies Nigeria’s Major Problems, Warns Of Country Crash by Flashyoil1(op): 12:07pm On May 28, 2019
The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has identified politicization of everything and pervasive injustice as the two major problems facing Nigeria.

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has identified politicization of everything and pervasive injustice as the two major problems facing Nigeria.

Wike said this while stressing that insecurity continues to thrive in Nigeria because the authorities have refused to listen to the cries for justice.

Speaking in Port Harcourt, the state capital, yesterday, Wike warned that if attention was not paid to justice, Nigeria “may crash-land”.

According to him: “Although I lack the intellectual impetus to join issues with the learned Professor, but for me, Nigeria’s problems, which are largely self-inflicted, can be reduced to two: the politicization of everything and pervasive injustice.

”Over the years, we have allowed the entire governing system to be corrupted by banal politics and the courage to do what is right and fair to all parts of the country had since departed.

”As a result, we are increasingly become insensitive or rather impervious to the injustices and the horrific happenings in our country that have reduced our humanity.

“In our case, everyone is crying out for justice and because we’ve as a nation blocked our ears and hearts to the deafening cries for justice, peace has become a rare commodity in our country. a rare commodity.

”My take is that we are going nowhere as a country; we will continue to run round in circles and possibly crash-land in a very hard way unless we change our narratives about justice because peace or peaceful co-existence cannot be decreed in a multi-cultural society such as ours, or in any society at all. It is only a real sense of justice that can command and guarantee enduring peace, patriotism and solidarity in Nigeria.”

Atalanta 3-1 Sassuolo: Atalanta are into UCL for the first time in club history
Atalanta will be playing in the Champions League next season after securing a top four finish on the final day of the season.

After a strong finish to the campaign, which included a recent draw away to leage champions Juventus, Atalanta came from behind to defeat Sassuolo and take a European spot at the expense of giants AC Milan.

Domenico Berardi scored early for the visitors, but Atalanta kept focused and were handed the advantage after Berardi went from hero to villain and got himself sent off.

Goals from Duvan Zapata, Alejandro Dario Gomez and Mario Pasalic helped turn the tie on its head, as Sassuolo faded late on.

Francesco Magnanelli was also given his marching orders, as the away team finished the match with nine men.

It was a dramatic final day flourish to Serie A, with both Milan sides uncertain of their European standing.

AC Milan managed to pull off a final day 3-2 victory over SPAL, but had to settle for a fifth-placed finish after rivals Inter also ended with a win.

A home victory at the San Siro saw Inter end the campaign by beating Empoli 2-1, and return to the Premier competition of European football.

They appear set to resume Champions League action with Antonio Conte at the helm, with the former Chelsea boss on the verge of agreeing to take over.

PoliticsPlot To Remove Obaseki Deepens See by Flashyoil1(op): 4:28pm On May 26, 2019
Just a few days after an Obaseki family delegation paid a visit to the Secretary of the Edo APC, Lawrence Okah, whom the Governor is in an open feud with, at least five of other Godwin Obaseki's brothers were seen at a meeting convened at the behest of Barrister Henry Idahagbon.

Idahagbon who is spearheading efforts by the party to shop for a more credible Governorship candidate come 2020 as against Godwin Obaseki having another term hosted a meeting of Edo APC leaders yesterday where Obaseki was roundly rejected.

In a recent interview, Barrister Henry Idahagbon, the immediate past Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Edo state, described Godwin Obaseki as a clueless neophyte who has failed politically and administratively. He has championed efforts by the party to replace him at the ballot in 2020 with a better candidate who, he believes, has the capacity and temperament for leadership.

The attendance of the meeting with Barrister Henry by Godwin Obaseki's brothers is an affirmation of the Governor's rejection by his own family members who are both appalled at his poor governance style and personal conduct.

Those who made the list are Pastor Eki obaseki, Mr Osamede obaseki, Mr Victor Obaseki, Hon Benjamin Obaseki aka Ciger and Mr Ewere Obaseki. Apart from introducing them, Idahagbon called them out one after the other and asked them to have a handshake with Engr. Evbuomwan, who chaired the meeting.

As earlier reported, the widespread disaffection for the Governor by his own family members is connected to Godwin Obaseki's arrogance and immaturity which led him to tell his late uncle, Justice Otutu Obaseki, that he deliberately avoids his own family over an assumption that every contact with them would lead to incessant begging.

For a man who has such a low view of his own ancestry and familial ties, it is not a surprise he is finding it difficult to have any true support now that he has been discovered a failure - and staring rejection in the eyes.

PoliticsPDP Laments Escalated Despondency, Blames Buhari, APC by Flashyoil1(op): 4:09pm On May 26, 2019
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) laments the escalated despondency, depression and misery in the country since the rigging of the 2019 Presidential election.

The party charges Nigerians to uphold and support one another in love, at this trying time, to check the rising social degeneration in our nation, particularly acts of suicide.

The PDP described as a national tragedy, the rising spate of suicides, slavery mission abroad, divorces, child abandonment and other social degeneration occasioned by the worsening economic hardship, poverty, hunger and rising insecurity under the incompetent, corrupt, divisive and manipulative All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

The party laments that such social ills, which is a direct response to bad governance, occurs when citizens are overwhelmed by gloom, with no hope in sight, particularly after their majority vote for a new, purposeful and result-oriented President in the PDP candidate Atiku Abubakar, as expressed in the February 23 Presidential election, was subverted with brazen impunity.

In the last few months, the news media has been awash with horrible reports of teenage suicide in our country.

Banditry, insurgency, marauding, bloodletting and kidnapping with unmentionable ransoms, have almost become daily occurrences. Our citizenry is now battling with the worst kind of siege mentality.

Constitutional violations, human rights abuses, arbitrary arrests, extra-judicial killings, assault on perceived dissenting voices and attempt at annexation of our institutions of democracy, particularly the judiciary, signposts a nation in dire strait.

Misery has set in. This is evident in the shrinking of our nation’s Gross Domestic Produce (GDP) to 2.1percent in the first quarter of 2019.

It is saddening that at the time Nigerians ought to be celebrating, they are rather forlorn, committing suicide and exiting the country in droves.

Most Nigerians have become downhearted in the face of an administration that wrecked our once robust economy and divided our people; in the face of worsening joblessness, piling bills, hunger and diseases; in the face of incompetence, lies, and unfulfilled promises of free homes, monthly allowance to unemployed youth and the poor, bringing the naira to the same value as the US Dollar, creating of 5 million new jobs, ending of insurgency in three months and myriad of other false promises.

Instead, what our nation has witnessed is an official entrenchment and elevation of incompetence, deceit, propaganda, failure and cabal mentality on the corridors of power; a situation where the only achievement is the foisting of economic recession and mortgaging of the future of our nation with the accumulation of N24.39 trillion debt, with no tangible project to show.

It is instructive to state that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration has obstinately refused to allow any scrutiny of its books, knowing that they are catalogues of corruption, treasury looting, violations, impunity and acts that have brought our nation to its knees.

The PDP however calls on Nigerians not to despair but stand firm in their collective determination to retrieve the stolen Presidential mandate at the tribunal, so they can have an administration that truly cares for them and which has the competence to return our nation on her deserved path of peace, national cohesion and economic prosperity.
