I thought oil was discovered in 1958, who was getting the proceeds of oils between 1958 to 1966 b4 the first coup. Because I am surprised by levels of development in the then Eastern region.

You should be asking the Igbos that.. what did the Igbo Premier and Politicians of that era do with all the money from oil discovery in present day Niger Delta.. As usual, they funnel monies meant for development of their region into private pockets so they will have overnight billionaires while the masses continue to suffer. Next is we should all start embracing our language as a means of communication both at home and abroad.. If you like have PhD in Linguistics and know all the phonetics in the world, once you are approached with Yoruba language, your response must be in Yoruba language and not foreign tongues.
