Left to me, I would have loved it if we can throw away all this politicians and elect good people. Imagine we have people like PAT UTOMI etc and all we can see this same wicked killer, thieves, corrupt people, people who abuse office etc and we keep shouting their names.

That is what Nigeria has turn productive youth to. The ladies had turn to prostitutes while guys turns to political touts. This are the people other countries use for development, innovation and advansment. God will judge all the people that wish Nigeria to continue like this.

Two Global System of Mobile communication operators, MTN Nigeria and Etisalat Nigeria, have said they will invest billions of dollars to improve on the quality of their services in the country amidst complaints from customers of poor quality of service.

While MTN said it would spend about $1.2bn (N216bn) to upgrade its network this year, Etisalat said its network rollout across Nigeria would continue this year with the $1.2bn medium-term syndicated loan facility it secured from a consortium of banks in 2013.

The two other GSM operators, Globacom and Airtel Nigeria, did not respond to enquiries by our correspondent on what they planned to spend this year to improve the quality of their services.

MTN said it had invested $15bn (N2.8tn) in the last 13 years (average of $1.2bn yearly) on network infrastructure in the country.

The telecommunications company said the pattern would not be different in 2015 and that it had continued to spend “aggressively” in building and upgrading its network infrastructure across Nigeria.

“No operator has spent more,” the General Manager, Corporate Affairs, MTN Nigeria, Ms Funmi Onajide, said in an emailed response on Wednesday.

The Chief Executive Officer, Etisalat Nigeria, Mr. Matthew Wilshere, had said in an earlier interview, “Beyond and above several investments we have made after our entry into Nigeria; in May 2013, we announced the signing of a $1.2bn medium-term syndicated loan facility with a consortium of banks to continue our network rollout across Nigeria.”

He noted that since the firm began operation in the country in 2008, it had continued to invest in building and expanding its network to ensure that it delivered quality services to customers.

Wilshere said, “As we make investment in our network, we also invest in our people, who are the most important asset to us.

“We aim to continue to focus on our network expansion, our investment in 3G, as well as ensuring we offer the uncompromising network quality and customer service our customers have come to expect from us as their network of choice.”

He stated that Etisalat had been severally commended for the quality of services it rendered to Nigerian subscribers.

“For instance, the other operators were banned for a time and fined because of their network quality, whereas Etisalat was seen as delivering overall quality that met the required standards of the regulator. We will continue to build and expand our network, invest in upgrading and expanding our network and capacity in order to meet the communications need of our customers,” Wilshere added.

Onajide said MTN’s concentration of capital and “immense confidence” in the country underscored the premium it placed on customer satisfaction and efforts to provide good quality services.

“The infrastructural challenges that negate consistent good quality of service are well known and still remain,” she added.

INEC should try and give people their PVC and give no room for any complain after the election. Any thing they know people will complain of should be dealt with now.

No fewer than 38,774,391 Nigerians now have the Permanent Voter Cards, the Independent National Electoral Commission has said.

The figure which is contained in a statement on Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of the commission, Mr. Kayode Idowu, represents 71.35 per cent of the 54,341,610 number of registered voters across the country.

It is however expected that the figure of the PVCs distributed will increase before next Tuesday when the commission is expected to publish the final list of voters.

Idowu told our correspondent that distribution of PVCs will start in Borno State on Friday(today) where no one had collected.

A breakdown of the 38,774,391 PVCs shows that 22, 832, 396 prospective voters have collected the cards in the Northern part of the country and 15,941,995 in the South.

The zonal analysis of the figure(38,774,391) indicates that the North-West and the South-West are leading the other four zones in the collection of the PVCs.

For example, in the North-West which has seven states, 12,013,961 PVCs have been collected.

The seven states in the zone are Kebbi, Zamfara, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kano, Katsina and Kaduna.

There are also 6,270,736 PVCs that have been collected in the six states of the South-West. The states are Lagos, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun and Oyo.

South-South is third among the zones with the highest number of PVC collected with 5,756,018.

The states in the zone are Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo and Delta.

Trailing the zone is North-Central with 5,520,001 collectors. States in the zone are Benue, Kwara, Nasarawa, Kogi, Plateau and Niger.

Although voters in Borno State have yet to collect their PVCs, the remaining states in the North-East have 4,886,499 PVCs.

The breakdown of the states which have collected PVCs shows that Kano recorded the highest number of prospective voters who have picked their PVCs with 2,771,185. It is followed by Kaduna State with 2,643,517.

Lagos State came third with 2,159,091.

President Goodluck Jonathan’s state, Bayelsa, came last as the commission put the number of voters with the PVCs in the state at 370,062.

It follows Ekiti State where 481,199 voters have received their PVCs and Enugu State with 662,445.

The figure also indicates that 411,935 people have collected their PVCs in the Federal Capital Territory .

Coming last is the South-East, with 3,915,241 PVCs.

Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Imo and Enugu are the states in the zone.

The usual fine boy mien was dropped last Wednesday as President Goodluck Jonathan hosted a delegation of northern elders led by the elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakassi. The trouble with the president flowed from the innuendoes poured on him earlier in the week by President Obasanjo in Abeokuta.

Obasanjo’s meeting on Monday with Iyalodes and Iyalojas from across the Southwest was indeed very significant. In the audience were the women who could help sway the voting pattern of almost half of the population of the Southwest region given their influence over other market women. The market women according to the calculations would in turn persuade their customers in the markets around the region.
The delegation was led by the Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief (Mrs.) Alaba Lawson. Significant in the membership of the delegation was the presence of the Iyaloja-General of Lagos, Chief Mrs. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, the daughter of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Just few years ago, the Tinubus and Obasanjo were on warring paths but the realignment of forces has seen to it that even these days Tinubu comes on political consultations to Obasanjo’s Abeokuta residence.
Noting the economic downturn in the economy, Obasanjo had whined and wailed the fate of the nation lamenting how the present administration had blown about $55 billion from the reserves.
In words that would ordinarily touch the women traders, he lamented that the drain of the foreign reserve was responsible for the slide of the naira to the dollar which he said he had heard was sliding towards N190 to the dollar.
Obvious innuendo

In an obvious innuendo, he said: “In the profession I know very well, the military, what we normally say is that there are no bad soldiers but bad officers. If you see a situation where the soldiers are not doing well, we need to examine the officers in charge. So it is in the family, the community, the town and the country.” Without mentioning President Jonathan in name, Obasanjo had clearly shown to the women that the problem with Nigeria was with its leadership.
Even though the innuendo was a direct hit at President Jonathan, the former general was quick to say “I have no grudges against Jonathan and I think Jonathan equally has no grudges against me. I’m not quarrelling with Jonathan but all I know is that whatever is good for Nigeria, that I’m ready to die for.”
“I emphasize that whatever is good for Nigeria, is what I’m ready to defend with my life. Whoever, I emphasize, whoever says he would not do anything good to Nigeria, even if he says he’s ready to go ‘konko below’, I’m ready to square it up with such a person. I say again, whoever that person may be, I want you to get that correctly. If this country is going to change for the better, it would start from the top and if it’s going to be otherwise, it would start from the top, too,” the former president stressed.

Presidential campaign

If anything, the hit was painful and perhaps calculated at damaging the president before the formal launch of his presidential campaign which took place in Lagos yesterday.
Remarkably, efforts to get a response from senior presidential aides on the issue were rebuffed. The usually voluble attack lion, Dr. Doyin Okupe was out of reach. Peoples Democratic Party, PDP spokesman, Chief Olisa Metuh demurred.
It was to later emerge that senior presidential aides had been told not to respond to Obasanjo. The president himself was going to deliver the poison.
Dr. Jonathan had given notice of his coming attack within 24 hours when he inaugurated his presidential campaign council the following day, saying that he would come out to give his performance against that of former heads of state.
“When we start campaigns, we will confront them with what we have done as a government, we will tell them what they did not do when they were heads of State,” President Jonathan had said last Tuesday.

Like Obasanjo, he did not mention any name but given the background of the event in Abeokuta the day before, the innuendo directed at Obasanjo could not be hidden.

Meanwhile, the mobilisation was on for the Northern elders to serve as a fitting audience for the president’s reply which came on Wednesday.
Remarkably, as he spoke that day just after the routine Federal Executive Council, FEC meeting, the anger swelled in him as he gave his own frontal response to Obasanjo, albeit in innuendo.
He said:
“Some people call themselves statesmen but they are not statesmen, they are just ordinary politicians. For you to be a statesman, it is not because you have occupied a big office before but the question is what are you bringing to bear on the nation?”
“Are you building this country? Or are you a part of the people who tell lies to destroy this country; to create enmity and make people who ordinarily would have been living together to fight themselves?”

“Are you planning to set the country ablaze because you did not get that particular thing you want?
“Some people, including those with big names, are hiding under some clogs and creating a lot of problems in this country. They are making provocative statements that will set this country ablaze. How can someone tell me that such people are senior citizens. They are not senior citizens and they can never be. They are ordinary motor park touts.

“If you are a senior citizen, you will act like one. It is not because of the offices we occupy, it is by divine grace and providence that some of us occupy these offices. But what role are you playing to build this country?”

Outbursts from the two men

As he spoke and as the anger boiled over, the president to the amusement of his audience, said that it was not the time for talking too much even though he had said a mouthful in ten minutes.
The outbursts from the two men just few weeks before the presidential election in which Obasanjo is opposed to Jonathan is reflective of the struggle for power by the two men.
Obasanjo in his audience with the market leaders affirmed that his interest was in the well being of the nation which he clearly stated was in bad shape.

Jonathan and his aides, however, counter that Obasanjo’s objections are an ego trip essentially because he has been shoved aside from the driver’s seat.

If we had voted based on promises in the last election, they should be telling us which of their promises they have fulfilled and why they have not fulfilled the rest. Building after six years? SMH

This is the kind of speech I want to hear in a campaipn, not a long speech without any promise or hope.

The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has promised to ensure stable power supply and expand the nation’s economy if elected as the president on February 14.

Buhari said this at the Government Secondary School in Calabar, Cross River State, while addressing a mammoth crowd that had come to receive the APC Presidential Campaign train on Wednesday in continuation of his tour of states in the South-South geo-political zone.

This came just as the Director-General of Buhari Campaign Organisation and Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, urged the electorates in the geo-political zone to vote out President Goodluck Jonathan because he did not deserve re-election.

Buhari said his policies would discourage people from stealing when voted into power.

He also said the power sector would be stabilised in order to resuscitate dying industries in the country.

“If you go down memory lane during the period of regional governments, the leaders then used to allocate 43 per cent of the budget to education and that is why their names will never be forgotten. We will try to secure our country; we will ensure industries are resuscitated.

“Our industries are dying and will continue to die unless we get the issue of power supply correct. We will resuscitate our industries,” he added.

Buhari added that he would bring about the development of the agricultural sector to reduce unemployment in the country.
