The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu on Thursday said policemen have no right to stop people on the road and search their mobile phones, saying it is an infringement of the law.
Odumosu who spoke in Yoruba on Lagos Television’s programme ‘Owurolawa’ also said it is a criminal act for policemen to arrest young people for indecent dressing, dreadlocks or having tattoos on their bodies, saying any policeman who engages in that will be severely punished.
He said people are free to live their lives the way they want as long as they don’t violate the law.
According to him, since the assumption of office, over 20 policemen have been arrested and detained for committing one offence or another.
” We will not condone any act of indiscipline from policemen. Any policeman who violates the law will be severely punished. The law that applies to citizens also applies to policemen”.
” The law that says motorists must not drive against oncoming traffic also applies to policemen. Any policemen or soldier that drives against traffic will be arrested”
” If you see any policeman doing anything contrary to the law, my phone numbers are available. Just put a call through and we will act promptly on it” he said.

hitng: EFCC storms ‘Yahoo-Boys den’, arrests kingpin, 26 others The Operatives of EFCC, on Wednesday, busted a Lagos hotel believed to be a hideout for internet fraudsters.
The target was one Rasaq Balogun, a suspected internet fraud kingpin, whose illicit activities dominated intelligence gathered from the recently arrested ‘police spies’ during a raid on their Abeokuta base.
According to findings, Balogun harbours an army of young men recruited to carry out financial frauds through the use of the internet. Some others were also arrested at his Beckley Estate residence, also in Lagos State.
The raid on his hotel, Modzak Hotel, at Abule-Egba, Lagos State, sufficiently gave credence to the suspicion as a retinue of young men were caught harboured in his hotel with no specific mission.
The suspected kingpin and 26 other young men ranging between the ages of 18 and 35 years were arrested at the scene.
Other suspects were also arrested at his Beckley Estate residence, Lagos, from where they were all moved to the Commission’s Ibadan zonal office for further interrogation.
Officer of the anti-graft agency also recovered three vehicles, fetish item, laptops, mobile phones and documents suspected to contain fraudulent data from the suspect.
myright: IPOB PRESS RELEASE IN RESPONSE TO ANAMBRA POLICE STATEMENT ON THE DEADLY INVASION OF BARR. EJIOFOR'S & ALLEGED DEATH OF TWO POLICE OFFICERS
3 December 2019
[Attached: Video of Barrister Ejiofor's country home in flames in Oraifite]
The unprovoked Nigeria police and army invasion of the home of our lawyer Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor barely four days after the painful burial of his senior brother is proof that those running Nigeria have descended into the abyss of iniquity from which they may never recover. Not even during the darkest days of Abacha's dictatorship did anyone witness such brazen intimidation of a legal counsel or the attempted assassination of a defence counsel in a high profile case.
It is the golden rule of every legal system under the Sun that defence counsels are not harrassed, intimidated or killed but it seems under this Fulani dictorship of Abba Kyari led cabal, nothing is sacrosanct. We don't expect the roundly docile and cowardly Nigeria Bar Association or their impotent and subdued National Judicial Council to rise up in condemnation of this contemptuous behaviour by Aso Rock in this latest attempt to kill Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor. This level of dictatorial impunity against the rule of law, judicial process and natural justice must not be condoned by any right thinking person.
In their usual predicatable manner, the Fulani run Nigerian Police through their Public Relations Officer one Haruna Mohammed in Anambra State have issued a self-incriminating statement ladden with blatant lies, falsehood and deception. For the police to say there was a criminal complaint against Barrister Ejiofor bothering on assault and kidnapping four days after the funeral of his brother is most stupid and laughable. Criminal complaint from who? Who did he kidnap, the body of his dead brother? Who did he assault, Justice Binta Nyako?Where, when and how did he commit these crimes? The Nigeria Police never wrote to Barrister Ejiofor neither did they invite him to attend their station.
This is a black lie. If they did, they should release the call log of the phone they claim they used in calling him. Does the Nigerian Police think the public is as daft as they are? The only reason for this unprovoked criminal invasion with deadly intent is to kill Barrister Ejiofor and to stop him from attending Federal High Court Abuja next month where he has all but defeated the Attorney General in the matter of Federal Government of Nigeria versus IPOB because Nigeria has no case against IPOB. The same strategy of invade and kill doctrine they deployed in Isiama-Afaraukwu the home of our leader on 14 September 2017 a month before he is due in court is what played out in Oraifite yesterday.
The Nigeria Police claim two of their officers were killed by IPOB members but there were four dead bodies in the burnt out police vehicle. What any investigative journalist worth his salt should ask is, who are the other two victims, where did they come from and what were they doing in a police van? Answers to these questions will reveal that Nigeria Police Command in Anambra State are unrepentant liars. The truth remains that Nigeria Police and Army went to the home of Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor with the sole purpose to kill him before next month's court date as is now their tradition. On getting there they opened fire on unarmed civilians as usual and the two men that came out of the house were shot dead instantly. The police carried their dead and dying bodies into their van to conceal evidence and drove off. These are facts backed by evidence Anambra Police cannot deny.
After killing two unarmed and innocent civilians, before they left the police doused Barrister Ejiofor's home with petrol and set it on fire. This was the reality yesterday in Oraifite Anambra State. It was the careleseness of the police in handling the petrol they used to drench Barrister Ejiofor's home and nearby businesses before setting them on fire that trailed back and led to the fire that gutted their van.
It is on record that IPOB remains a peaceful movement therefore this latest desperate attempt by this lying Fulani controlled Nigeria Police to equate our activities with their home-grown Miyetti Allah (Fulani herdsmen) terrorist organisation is a waste of time.
COMRADE EMMA POWERFUL MEDIA AND PUBLICITY SECRETARY FOR IPOB.
I had to create this new Acct to post this Pls permit my typographical errors Last week Saturday I was reading when I got a call from a friend that he needs my account number because his account can’t take the sum of money he wants to receive from the person that wants to transfer for him I asked him how much he said 300K I said jokingly that he should go and get a better account and stop operation student accounts. So I sent him my account details and the person sending him money credited my account 50K I told him that I revived only 50K not 300K he said yes that the person has reached his limit for the day ..
I seen him his money later in the evening via Quickteller because the server was not good and I was left with only 22K that was in my account before ok good ..
Fast forward to yesterday Evening I tried checking my account my login in and I noticed my account has been restricted I was confused on what might have happened I thought it’s something simple that I’ll walk to the bank and perfect it .. then I decided to message the costumer care I was told I need to update my Bvn informations that I should dial a particular number and follow instructions I tried it but it’s not working .
I’m suppose to visit the bank today but I was busy
Just after my Pratical in school today I was sitting when my guy called me again that is there anything wrong with my account he said I should not go to the bank because the 50K transaction that was sent earlier was fraudulent I was like wtf but he dropped the call ..
I called him again his contact was not available so after sometimes he messaged me online telling me the guy that sent it used his brothers account and he told him that it’s not from his account that his own personal account has been locked too because he later revived money directly from him and that’s how he got to know ..
What i’m after is a solution now can I go to the bank and explain my self already or what can I do to make all this not to bounce on me because I know noting about it I’ve never received any fraudulent transactions before someone said I should take him along to the bank and just hand him over when anything happens all I need is a solution right now me mad the guy went to same primary school and secondary so I know him very well and made me trust him wit h my account what can I do right now
What are you afraid of, if you are sure you are not "dirty" go to the bank and report your observations or else if they come for you, you will be worse off
References: The leadership of the All Progressives Congress is leaving nothing to chance ahead of a court judgment on Orji Uzor Kalu, former governor of Abia State, who is facing corruption charges by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The public pressure and criticisms have made it difficult and impossible for the office of Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abukabar Malami, to enter Nolie prosique and withdraw the charges against Kalu in the case.
The leadership of the party has since commenced mobilisation of possible force to pile pressure on Justice Mohammed Idris for a favourable judgment come December 2.
Kalu is being tried alongside his company, Slok Nigeria Limited; and Udeh Udeogu, who was Director of Finance and Accounts at the Abia State Government House in an alleged fraud of N7.65bn during Kalu’s tenure as governor.
Kalu, who crossed to the APC prior to the 2019 general election, contested for the Abia North Senatorial District position.
Justice Idris had fixed judgment in the matter for December 2 and since then all mercenaries of the party had been deployed to reach the judge for favourable consideration.
SaharaReporters gathered that a top leader of the party has been contacted and he is pulling his weight around the case.
It was said that Justice Idris is being put in a very tight and difficult position.
"We are leaving no stone unturned in preventing an embarrassing judgment from that judge."
"Orji Kalu has invested heavily in the party and it's time for the party to show appreciation for his service and investments,” said sources close to the parties.
Another source in the office of the Court of Appeal President confirmed the pressure on the President of the Appellate Court who has been left with no option than to reach the judge to understand her predicament.
Justice Idris is said to have rebuffed all entreaties considering the amount of pressure on him.
“Monday is still a long time to have the judge to concede pressure and consider the request.
“The party leadership are equally in earnest search for other possible contacts to the judge other than President of the Court of Appeal.
“Whichever way the pendulum swings, the public will know by Monday, December 2 when the judgment is expected to be delivered,” the source said.
kidap: Kaduna State Goveenor, Malam Nasir El Rufai is in Akure to deliver the lead paper at the annual colloquium of the Ajasin Foundation which honors the memory of the first civilan governor of Ondo State, Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin.
Shehuyinka: “From where he was held, my son cried to me that I should do everything possible to get him out. I was very sad seeing him in that condition. I swear to Allah, he is not a Boko Haram. My son is not a Boko Haram. Walahi, he is not,” the mother told The ICIR.
Since 2011 to date, Saina’s wife and mother have been waiting almost hopelessly for the day he would regain freedom and reunite with them. It is uncertain he would any time soon or if he is even still alive.
But the two women are yet to inform Walid about the condition of his father, seven years after his birth.
“I have not yet had the courage to tell him what happened to his father. It’s hard for me to tell him,” the old woman said, as tears of frustration rolled down her cheeks.
Overwhelmed by their own misfortune, other women seated on the floor joined her. Each woman taking time to bewail the disappearance of their sons or husbands.
They are members of Jire Dole, a network of survivors and relatives of missing persons, victims of the Boko Haram insurgency.
The group was formed about two years ago to put pressure on the government to account for the whereabouts of their sons and husbands. Women from different families, joined by a common burden of grief, shared their experience with The ICIR. At the last count, the group membership was over 3,000.
One of them was Zainab Muhammed, a 53-year-old Kanuri woman. Her son, Ibrahim Muhammed, aged 16, was arrested in 2012 on Baga Road in Maiduguri on the way to the market where he went to buy thread and other sewing materials.
He went with his elder brother; both are apprentice tailors. But it turned out that soldiers were conducting a raid that morning, an operation that had almost become a routine in the city of Maiduguri. Many young men escaped arrest that day, but Ibrahim was unlucky.
When the news of his arrest reached home, his parents dashed out to secure his release before he could be taken into detention. But they were not quick enough.
“It was raining heavily that morning, yet we dashed out, walked long distances in the rain, and we did not feel it. When we reached Sector One in Baga road, soldiers chased us away, threatening to shoot if we didn’t go back. I became ill when I got home, coughing seriously,” Zainab recounted.
For three months, she was homebound and heard no news of her son. When she was told later that those arrested had been taken to Giwa barracks, her hope of seen Ibrahim again dimmed.
But a Good Samaritan showed forth – or so she thought. He was a soldier. He promised to help Ibrahim gain freedom. And to do that, he would have to bribe several guards at Giwa Barracks.
He demanded N300, 000, but the family could only raise N150, 000, borrowed at a high-interest rate. An arrangement was made. Ibrahim would be brought loaded together with corpses of suspected Boko Haram members due for the morgue that day.
At that time, in Maiduguri, it was learnt that a military ambulance (Hiace bus) with registration number N432 used to discharge heaps of corpses every week at the hospital. The ambulance did many trips in a day, a resident who worked with the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, in Maiduguri told The ICIR.
On April 2, 2013, at least 67 unknown corpses deposited in Borno State Specialist Hospital were waiting to be disposed off by the Borno Environmental Protection Agency, BOSEPA, according to a document obtained by The ICIR.
But on the day the soldier promised to bring Zainab’s son along with dead bodies , the soldier was nowhere to be seen. Though corpses of many youths were delivered at the hospital that day, Ibrahim was not among them.
“We waited all day, but he did not show up. The man [the soldier] has a Christian name, but I cannot remember again. His duty station used to be Borno State Specialist Hospital,” she told The ICIR amidst tears.
Ravon: MTN Nigeria PLC (MTN) announced that Nigeria has become the first country in West Africa to trial 5G technology and applications. The result of a strong collaboration between the Ministry of Communications Technology and Digital Economy, the Nigerian Communications Commission, MTN and Huawei (Abuja), ZTE (Calabar) and Ericsson (Lagos.) This immersive demo and experience will travel across three Nigerian cities to showcase the capabilities of 5G and its potential to enable economic growth, and social inclusion.
By working together, MTN and its partner — Huawei, were able to provide a glimpse into a range of 5G use cases and applications at a testing Lab designed to show proof-of-concept in Abuja. Standing alongside former Super Eagles captain, legendary Joseph Yobo, attendees got to match their skills against an artificial-intelligence powered goalie; immerse themselves in a high-speed, low-latency virtual reality gaming world; experience ultra-high-speed streaming and downloads on 5G devices; and engage in discourse with life-like holographic projections.
3D holographic communication has potential applications for education, medical imaging, video conferencing and gaming, and requires about four times as much data as a streaming 4K video. That means that 5G is best suited to support this kind of application on a mobile network and to enable its use. It also demonstrates how 5G has the potential to support key socio-economic objectives Nigeria has set for itself and to be a key contributor to the emergence of a fully digital economy.
MTN was honoured to host the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami; the Chairman of Nigerian Communications Commission, Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye, and the Chairman, the Executive Vice-Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Garba Danbatta; House of Representatives, Committee on Communications, Honourable Akeem Adeyemi at the launch event, without whom the demo would not have been possible.
Speaking shortly after taking a tour of the exhibition booths, Dr. Pantami underlined the potential of 5G for sustainable growth. “I believe as long as we are able to handle the potential challenges, the deployment of 5G is very critical to our economy, because of so many advantages of 5G, the issue of latency, speed and many more.”
Stressing the importance of an enabling regulatory framework and protecting telecommunications infrastructure, Dr. Pantami stated that on the instruction of the President, he has signed a draft Executive Order declaring telecommunications infrastructure ‘critical national infrastructure’ which has been forwarded to the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation for review. The Minister referred to the proposed Executive Order as a short-term measure, stressing that the President has instructed that proper legislation be facilitated to deal conclusively with threats to telecommunications infrastructure.
Highlighting the importance of partnerships, Ferdi Moolman, the Chief Executive Officer, MTN Nigeria said “Pushing boundaries is easier when your aspirations are supported by likeminded people. We are here today because of the support and guidance of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy and the Nigerian Communications Commission who provided the trial spectrum used for this.”
Also, the key to this achievement is our equipment vendors who shared our vision, and whose capabilities were brought to bear in making the 5G trials across the country a reality. We are grateful for these partners, our customers and everyone who made it possible. Today’s success underlines the fact that we are good together.”
Mazen Mroue, Chief Operating Officer, MTN Nigeria stated that “In collaboration with our technical partners and the support of the Federal Government, we are proudly putting Nigeria on the 5G technology map. As we continue to invest in technology solutions to meet the wide needs of our customers, MTN will continue to strengthen these partnerships as we move to build our 5G capacity in future, guided by the standards and spectrum set by the Nigerian Communications Commission.”
In addition to the bandwidth increase for seamless video streaming or the next social application playground, 5G technology supports real-time, ultra-reliable communication between massive numbers of devices.
It creates vast possibilities in innovation and transformation, and will immensely improve quality of living, as users gain a better experience of services and technology in general — from financial services, healthcare, education, and even public service delivery to more leisurely purposes, such as video streaming services, gaming and even self-driving cars.
“5G offers tremendous benefits in terms of speed, latency (fewer delays), efficiency and security. This pilot offers a unique opportunity for us to explore use-cases and applications in Nigeria, and we are excited about its potential for our country and our company” noted Mohammed Rufai, Chief Technical Officer, MTN Nigeria.
Following the successful demonstration in Abuja, the 5G-demo train moves to Calabar and Lagos. In addition to which 5G trials will be run in four other cities across the country. The 5G trial will run for three months utilizing the trial spectrum allocated to MTN by the NCC.
