Montracine: Amotekun: South-West govs’ intentions good but unconstitutional, Police affairs minister
The Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi, says the intentions of South-West governors for establishing Amotekun are good but the constitution bestowed the responsibility of national security on the Federal Government.
NAN quoted Dingyadi as speaking during an interview with newsmen in Sokoto.
The minister, who said the police were doing well in tackling the menace of kidnapping in all forms, enjoined Nigerians to support them in order to ensure maximum success in that regard.
Commenting on the South-West security outfit codenamed "Operation Amotekun”, Dingyadi said, "The intentions of the Southwest governors are good. However, some people have expressed fears about the regional security force.
”Security is an exclusive responsibility of the Federal Government being supported at times by state governments and other organisations.
”If Operation Amotekun differs from the support being rendered by state governments to the Federal Government on security matters, then it is unconstitutional,” Dingyadi stated.
He said that the border closure by the Federal Government had yielded results.
Dingyadi further stated that the police would perform efficiently if the military personnel were withdrawn from areas affected by insurgency, saying that managing internal security was their primary responsibility.

Demzlent: The launching of operation amotekun has exposed the fact that we yorubas are losing touch with our language to the extent that our leaders are calling leopard amotekun. So I am taking this opportunity to educate my fellow yorubas Many of us believe that tiger is ekun, leopard is amotekun, this is wrong. Tiger is an animal that is not found in africa,Yoruba land included,so our fore fathers did not come in contact with it,so they couldn't have given a name to it. The correct translation is Leopard - ekun Cheetah - amotekun Amotekun means like 'ekun' because if you look at leopard and cheetah, they look alike only that leopard is bigger. Tiger doesn't look like these two , it has stripes not spots like the two There is a Yoruba proverb that says ''asunkun pani bi amotekun' this is because of the stripes below the eyes of the cheetah Thanks
Ekun O, Amotekun O, ogidan O, all those names no concern us, what we know is that the operation has come to stay
First off the name Amotekun has nothing to do physical semblance as such.
It literally translates - “one who knows as Ekun”.
Again, you are wrong that Yoruba doesn’t have a transalation for Tiger - because our fathers didn’t have an encounter with them.
In fact Tiger has two Yoruba names. It could be called OGIDAN or EKUN. That’s why they say this provide - “Ogidan o ni se Barber, ki aja de be lo ge irun”.
And “KAKA KI KINIUN SAKAPO EKUN, OLODE A MAA RODE.“ Mind you Lion in Yoruba is Kiniun. And no one will ever compare a Lion with a Leopard. No animal can stand the Lion grit for grit amongst the Cat Family other than the Tiger; hence, the comparison.
Also, when Yorubas jokingly refer to someone as Ekun - it’s to represent that the person is a Strong man.
ExAngel007: The Spokesperson of the Discos responsible for the distribution of electricity across Nigeria, Sunday Oduntan has asked Nigerians to stop calling them NEPA.
Oduntan who appeared on TVC's 'Your View', debunked claims of a 78% increase in electricity tariff as he pointed out that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is the independent regulatory body in charge of regulating the power sector just like the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) regulates banks.
He further revealed that more than 95% of what is used in Nigeria's power sector are imported which is why there is a proposed increase in electricity tariff. Oduntan added that if the exchange rate is okay and there is reduced importation in the electricity sector, there will also be reduced electricity tariff.
The Discos spokesperson also told Nigerians to stop calling them NEPA because it shows they don't want change, have not noticed there is a change and also don't want electricity. Here is the video below;
BuhariLooter: Why did the Oyoruba governors not seek legislature backing from their respective state assemblies when setting up the vigilante movement?
Malami will argue that Sharia and Hisbah came about through legislation by the state assemblies.
Are the current crop of Oyoruba governors so daft not to know that laws created at state level can not be overruled by the FG?
Why did Malami not declare Fayose's anti grazing bill and the security outfit he setup to enforce the law illegal?
Yaribanza, your APC governors are mocking you and were only using this Amotekun as political leverage. They are not interested nor concerned about your safety.
Where are the cows
Guess your brain needs a reset cos you don't have sense at all. Legislation is not a problem because it's the individual state assemblies that would make laws backing Amotekun. Every other person can go and die, Amotekun has come to stay
