The ambassador expressed satisfaction with the EFCC’s state-of-the-art Forensic Laboratory Directorate, and expressed confidence that the Commission will drastically reduce corruption and cyber crimes in the country with the quality of technology it has in the directorate.

“With you, I see a Nigeria that will be free of crimes,” Tae said.

The EFCC boss noted that capacity building was key in producing well equipped staff of the Commission who would be able to stay ahead of fraudsters.

He expressed gratitude for the current training opportunity from the Korean government to EFCC officials and prayed for more of such opportunities.

“We appreciate your visit and we want to be introduced to more opportunities to enable the Commission continue to be in the lead of the fight against corruption, even if it means acquiring sophisticated and updated equipment that will aid our anti-graft fight, we will be glad to receive it,” Magu said.

Mountain Black, one-half of the music group, Danfo Drivers, has said that the music industry neglected his recently deceased colleague, Mad Melon, before his death.

Shortly after news of the artiste’s demise hit the Internet, many artistes posted his picture on social media, mourning his death.

In a chat with Saturday Beats, Mountain Black said, “Yes, he was neglected (by the music industry). We became popular in 2003, and we had been managing ourselves since then. I believe that with God, all things are possible. We believed in ourselves, and that is why we were still relevant in the industry till now. The industry is very wide; you can fix yourself anywhere and make your money. We were, also, both involved in transportation business.”

On the nature of Mad Melon’s illness, Black said, “I am not a doctor. I was actually not around. It was when I got back, I was told that he was not feeling well. One of his relatives called me and said I should come immediately because my brother was acting strangely. By the time I got there, he was gone. I was just told he was not feeling fine.”

Revealing the plans for Melon’s funeral rites, Black said, “the wake will take place on October 11, while the burial will hold the next day. We stay in Satellite Town now but we have to go back to Ajegunle where we were brought up. He is going to be buried in Atan Cemetery, Yaba. The people of Ajegunle have been very supportive.”

When asked what he would miss most about his former partner, Mountain Black said, “I will miss a lot about him. We went to places and worked together. He will always be in my heart. I can neither forget nor deny him– he was my brother.”

Lizzysamuel:
A 62-year-old man Muhammad Ujujud has been arrested by the operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP for chaining and locking up 16-year-old daughter, Fatima, for two years.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that Mr Ujudud, a resident of Rinji village in Madobi Local Government Area of Kano State, punished the teenager for her alleged refusal to accept a husband he forced on her. The father locked Binta and her brother, Shehu, in separate cells in his house.

Our reporter gathered that the brother died in detention recently. A member of the community who secretly leaked the story to journalists explained that the man was notorious for meting out corporal punishment on his family and he was dreaded in the village.

According to the locals, Mr Ujudud only rarely fed his captive children with food. "He hardly gave them food to eat. The sleep and defecate in just one point," said a neighbor who preferred not to be named. Appearing pale and ill, NAPTIP officials then took Binta to a private hospital in Kano, where she is currently receiving treatments.

In an interview with DAILY NIGERIAN reporter, one of the sons of Mr Ujudud who fled his father’s way of punishment, confirmed that his brother Shehu starved to death in captivity. He added that his mother died few years ago and his father is now living with their step mother. The state commandant of NAPTIP, Shehu Umar, confirmed the arrest and detention of Mr Ujudud, saying investigation is currently ongoing.

CrimeRe: Ogwashi Uku Prison Accused Of Negligence leading to Death of Inmates by foreshore(m): 12:40pm On Sep 27, 2019
semasir:
Prison Authorities in Ogwashi Uku Prison, Delta State are being accused of negligence which has led to the death of almost 10,000 inmates since 2013 as explained by Ada Mazi.

One Smart Ohuzu, a prisoner awaiting trial, was reported to have died on 25th September owing to the fact that the officers ignored pleas from other inmates to take Smart to the hospital.

The young man was remanded in Prison by a Delta State Magistrate Court and two months while in custody, he has been sick.

In the morning, Smart Ohuzu collapsed and Prison Authorities called on the cell leader to gather ₦5000 from cell mates so they can transport him to Ogwashi Uku General hospital.

The poor prisoners contributed money and some even contributed ₦10 while others contributed ₦50 and they were able to raise a total of ₦3,500 eventually and now left with an outstanding ₦1,500 which then got the prison officers angry and refused to take Smart Ohuzu to hospital.

Inmates who saw Smart Ohuzu on the floor struggling, rush back to the cell and one inmate was said to have given out the ₦1,500 to enable officers take Smart Ohuzu to the Hospital and was later rushed to Ogwashi Uku General hospital after they have collected the money contributed.

Upon getting to the hospital, the doctors treated him and referred them to Federal Medical Center or Okwe General Hospital and complained that they will stop accepting inmates from Ogwashi Uku Prison as they are always bringing inmates for treatment at the point of death.

The officers, instead of taking Smart Ohuzu to the hospital the doctor referred them, with chains on his leg they led him into the Green Maria (Black Maria) and took him back to the prison yard complaining of man-power.

Smart Ohuzu was then chained and left in the cold, struggled and died with tears in his eyes, three hours after he was forcefully brought back into the prison yard.

The inmates could not complain because if they do, they either change their cell or punish them.

A group of Young Nigerians which is made up of ex-Awaiting Trial Prisoners, Behind Bars Intervention, are now demanding that health centers be built in all the prison especially Ogwashi Uku Prison, Delta State and that Minister of Interior and/or the Controller General of Prisons to write/sign and put up a sign post in each prison in Nigeria stating "VISIT IS FREE" just the way they have "Bail Is Free In Police stations and Court amongst other demands.

They however recommended that the top prison officers who uses this prison to enrich themselves and put innocent prisoners to death be sacked and the Minister of Interior/Controller General partner with other stakeholders to decongest the prison, declare Health Emergency in all the Prisons now or Shut down Ogwashi Uku Prison.

If nothing is done, the group has promised to lawfully gather 4,250 families of those in Delta Prison for a Nationwide Peaceful protest and if the allegations are considered false, the mouthpiece for the group, Prince Gwamnishu Harrison asked to be taken to the court.

SportsRe: FIFA Awards: Captains And Coaches Claim They Did Not Vote For Messi by foreshore(m): 7:25am On Sep 27, 2019
NORSYK:
FIFA vote-rigging storm: Captains and coaches claim they DID NOT vote for Lionel Messi for The Best award - and now FIFA reveal Egypt's vote for Salah was rejected because it was written in CAPITAL LETTERS

FIFA's prestigious The Best awards have been struck by a vote rigging storm amid claims indicating the ballot was rigged — with the governing body suggesting Egypt's votes were left out after the signatures were written in capital letters.
Lionel Messi walked away with the best men's player accolade at the glitzy ceremony in Milan on Monday, pipping Cristiano Ronaldo and Virgil van Dijk to the award.

Given Van Dijk's remarkable season at Liverpool, where he led the club to their sixth Champions League title, and Ronaldo's excellent campaign at Juventus - Messi's winning award was met with a degree of surprise.

There was also a belief that Mohamed Salah would be a strong contender for the prize.

And now the Barcelona superstar's claim to the honour has been thrown into serious doubt following questions over the legitimacy of the voting.

The Egyptian football association, Sudan's coach Zdravko Logarusic and Nicaragua's captain Juan Barrera have raised concerns over the authenticity of the ballots - citing uncounted or misallocated votes.

Egypt's association called on FIFA to explain why the votes of its national coach Shawki Ghareeb and captain Ahmed were not taken into account. Ghareeb and El-Mohammadi are not mentioned in FIFA's publication of official votes.

FIFA have now indicated that they were not included because signatures on Egypt's ballots 'were in capital letters and thus seemed not valid (not authentic).'

They added that 'voting forms were also not signed by the (federation) general secretary which is mandatory.'

Sudan’s coach Zdravko Logarusic took to social media to say his vote was not reflected by FIFA
The Egyptian Football Federation claim they officially sent Egypt's vote to FIFA on August 15, four days before the deadline.

Their statement had earlier asked 'FIFA why the Egyptian vote was not accepted' and goes on to confirm the EFA have opened an 'investigation' into the circumstances of this failure.

The Egyptian federation was in turmoil in July and August after its leadership resigned due to the national team's Round of 16 exit at the African Cup of Nations it hosted.

Later in August, FIFA sent an emergency management team to run the Egypt federation.

Additionally, Sudan's coach Lugarisic and Nicaragua's Juan Barrera took to social media to indicate that the votes published by FIFA, in their names, did not reflect their actual choices.

Lugarisic says his first choice was Egypt's Salah but FIFA's voting document showed Messi as his first selection.

Lugarisic says his first choice was Mohamed Salah but FIFA's records said he voted for Messi

Barrera is also adamant that he did not vote for Messi, as claimed by FIFA.

'I did not vote for Messi. I was surprised to be on the list of captains who voted for Messi and there is no explanation how it appeared there,' Barrera is reported to have said.

FIFA determines the best players based on the votes of national team coaches, captains as well as a journalist from each country.

The votes are then made public for transparency. However, the voting system has been called into serious doubt following the alleged discrepancies.

LiteratureRe: Chimamamanda Adichie Fights Arthur Eze Over Land Grabbing by foreshore(m): 7:46am On Sep 24, 2019
noble0:
Chimamamanda Adichie accuses Igbo billionaire, Arthur Eze, of grabbing the ancestral land of Abba people, her ancestral homeland. He also accuses Arthur Eze of having done the same in Abagana, Ifitedunu and Ukwulu, all neighbouring towns to Ukpo, through his bags of money.

Read her write about it:

My hometown under siege

One night in July, the signboards disappeared. The people of Abba, my hometown in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra state, woke up to see that the signboards were gone — the signboard that said ‘Welcome to Abba Town’ had vanished. The signboard mounted by the state government that said ‘Drive safely through Abba’ had vanished. Every signboard that announced Abba’s boundary had disappeared.

In a country where signboards exist to make communities visible, this was an act of erasure, a way of saying to a community: you no longer exist. An attack on a community’s autonomy. An aggression. But how could it have happened? There are laws, after all, and signboards set up by the state government cannot arbitrarily be torn down. It happened because the Nigerian police accompanied people at night to commit this illegal act. Witnesses saw them: the police vans, their flashing lights, their guns. And it happened because a Nigerian billionaire, Prince Arthur Eze, is financing a campaign of intimidation in order to win a land dispute.

Land disputes are depressingly common all over Nigeria – Awka-Amawbia, Umuleri-Aguleri, and Ife-Modakeke are some well-known examples – but perhaps what makes Abba-Ukpo different is the brazen meddling of a wealthy man. The land in question is called Agu Abba – a vast stretch of woods, farmland, and a market, Oye Abba, with roofed wooden stalls. All land cases are complex, but here is a simplified history of this case: In 1967, shortly after the Nigeria-Biafra war began, Abba sued a nearby town, Ukwulu, for trespassing on its land. A state high court ruled in Abba’s favour.

After the war, Ukwulu questioned the legitimacy of the ruling, as Biafra no longer existed. Abba then sued again in 1975. The case dragged on until 1985 when Ukpo, another nearby town, formerly a witness for Ukwulu, made a surprising volte face and joined the suit, claiming some of the land as theirs. The suits were subsequently consolidated and in 1999 a state high court ruled in Ukwulu/Ukpo’s favour. Abba got a stay of execution on the judgment. Then something strange happened: the record of proceedings in the case suddenly disappeared. The Anambra State government set up a panel of inquiry, which sat for three months and returned empty-handed to say they could not find the court records.

Abba filed an appeal but the appeal failed because the record of proceedings, which are indispensable materials for the determination of the appeal, could not be presented. Abba then appealed to the Supreme Court. In a lead judgment, Paul Adamu Galumje referred to the disappearance of the records and asked both parties to go back to the state high court and ‘sort out the mess.’

So Abba went back to file suit in state court, where the case is currently ongoing.

“Do court records just get up and walk away?” a spokesperson for Abba said. “We all know Prince Arthur Eze paid people to destroy the records. We don’t have money but we will fight him with the truth in court.”

But before the case could proceed in court, the siege of Abba began.

On June 19, 2019, Oye Abba market was full of people trading in vegetables and yams when police vans screeched in and policemen leapt out, shooting tear gas canisters, pushing and hitting traders and buyers, asking everyone to leave the market immediately. People ran. Children cried. Two weeks later, more policemen arrived at the market, destroying the wares of innocent people. And again a few days later. The terrorized traders then abandoned the market and set up on a busy intersection at the center of Abba, a less than ideal site, but the only option left to them.

I began to ask questions and soon learned that it wasn’t just mass harassment of market traders, there was also a more targeted harassment of individuals who had spoken up for Abba in the land dispute.

On July 3, 2019 policemen from the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Area 10, Garki Abuja arrived early in the morning and arrested three people from Abba. A woman was about to unlock her shop on the main road in Abba when policemen jumped on her and arrested her. A man was about to leave home for his construction work site when policemen barged through his door, scaring his family, and bundled him away. They were detained first at the State CID for one week and then were moved to Abuja where they were detained for two weeks.

“On what charges?” I asked a young man, a member of the Abba Youth, who has witnessed the events from the beginning.

‘They had a long list of charges, including conspiracy and attempted murder,” he said.

“Attempted murder of whom?”

“It’s all nonsense. They fabricated charges, based on zero evidence, and took them to Abuja just to intimidate them and make them give up our land.”

The point of these illegal arrests is indeed intimidation. But many in Abba were not cowed. The Abba town union organized a peaceful protest along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway, on the spot where the signboards were torn down, to raise awareness about what was happening. They had no weapons, only their voices. Shortly after the protest began, the police arrived in large numbers. Some witnesses said there were at least 100 policemen, which in a small protest in a small town is akin to a hostile invasion by state machinery. The police fired tear gas to disperse the protest. The young man I spoke to was there, and told me how his eyes burned for days afterwards.

“There were so many tear gas canisters, up to 300, and they were brand new. We all know the police in this area don’t have that much. Who paid for the tear gas? Arthur Eze,” he said.

Abba Women also organized a protest to appeal to the governor for help. Hundreds of women gathered at the government house, all dressed in somber black, carrying signs, and singing mournful songs. Watching the video, one cannot help but be moved by these women, by their determination, their orderliness, their commitment to peaceful means of protest. They wanted the governor to step in and stop the police harassment of Abba indigenes. One of the cardboard signs they carried read: Stop police harassment of Abba. Another, to my surprise, read: Arthur Eze, emulate Alhaji Aliko Dangote. He does not use his money to intimidate people. He uses his money to invest wisely.

The Abba town union wrote detailed letters of complaint to the DSS, the state governor and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. An excerpt from the letter to the President reads: “It is no secret that the I. G. P. Adamu Mohammed is being used by a known moneybag in Ukpo, Prince Arthur Eze, to intimidate and silence Abba people like he did to their neighbouring Abagana community.”

As a child I was often skeptical of historical stories in which the homeland of the storyteller was always in the right. And so my natural skepticism made me ask why Prince Arthur Eze would engage in this violent campaign of intimidation, and whether perhaps he was being unfairly maligned. Where was the evidence? How could we be sure that Prince Arthur Eze was indeed responsible?

“Arthur Eze wants to build a university named after him, and Ukpo doesn’t have any land big enough and so he wants to take our land,” the young man said.

Prince Arthur Eze has a documented history of muscling his way into contested land – in the past few years he has used the police to terrorize another nearby town, Abagana, after which he annexed their land. But perhaps the clearest evidence that Prince Arthur Eze is the mastermind of the harassment in the Abba-Ukpo case comes from his own words. After the Supreme Court judgment, Prince Arthur Eze called the traditional ruler of Abba, Igwe LN Ezeh and asked for a meeting on May 21, 2019 at the Geneva Hotel in Okpuno, a town near Awka. There, Prince Eze made a proposal: if Abba agreed to abandon the court case and share the land with Ukpo, he would call off the police. Igwe LN Ezeh told him that Abba people wanted to conclude the case in court. There are witnesses to this meeting. It was after this meeting that the police harassment of Abba indigenes went into full force.

Today in Abba people live in fear. Rumours swirl every day. Somebody says there is a list of Abba people to be arrested. Another says the police are coming from Abuja to arrest the town union members. Another says the community school, partly located on the disputed land, will be completely demolished. Some fearful parents keep their children home from school. When a big car with tinted windows drives through Abba, the people worry. Some men skulk away. Who will be arrested today? Who will be harassed? Who will sleep in a cell tonight?

My 87-year-old father, a retired university professor, is bewildered. He is from a passing generation of principled Nigerians who do not understand how a single individual can buy and control the Nigerian police force. After my father heard of an Abba man abducted while driving through Ukpo, his empty car left abandoned by the roadside, he asked my brother to take a longer route to a Pharmacy rather than drive through Ukpo. He feared for my brother’s safety. I fear for my parents’ safety. I fear for my hometown now unfairly living in distress.

Most recently, on September 6, 2019, Abba people woke up to see a Caterpillar demolishing the structures of Oye Abba market, while armed policemen and mobile policemen stood guard. Abba people watched, helpless and hapless, as the economic center of their small community was destroyed. The Caterpillar also demolished the walls of the nearby community secondary school, only days before students are supposed to return to school. Now the school walls and the market stalls are

a jumble of broken wood and cement, and a symbol of a brokenness in our system. Abba-Ukpo might well be a provincial land dispute, but it speaks to larger issues in Nigeria. A wealthy individual has turned the Nigerian police into his private terror group. Those deemed protectors of the people have become their attackers. Those supposed to uphold the law are now the practitioners of a particular kind of lawlessness lubricated by crass wealth.

Not all members of the police seem to be so shamefully on sale — the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, and the Divisional Police Officers of Ukpo and Abagana refused to harass Abba because they believed it to be illegal. But the consequences for them were swift: they were unceremoniously transferred to other states.

I don’t know who has a legitimate claim to the land – it has for decades been known as Agu Abba and farmed by Abba people in the often-unwritten rules that govern customary land ownership. But that is what the courts should determine, in a process free from meddling. Court records should not disappear. No community in Nigeria should be terrorized by state machinery. No private citizen should have the power to turn the police on an entire community. Injustice is stalking Anambra state and the rights of every citizen should be protected. It is in protecting the rights of others that we protect our own rights, because we create a system of rights from which all can potentially benefit.

As I ended my conversation with the young man, he said, “Please don’t use my name. The police will come and abduct me and take me to Abuja. My family is poor. I don’t have anybody to bring me food in Abuja, not to talk of bailing me out.”

I was struck by his use of the word ‘abduct.’ Some members of the Nigerian police have soiled its name and its legitimacy. The Nigerian police has been used to cause great harm in Abba. The Nigerian police must now refuse to be used any longer. The Nigerian police must show that it is not for sale. The Nigerian police must stand up for justice and fair play. Stop the harassment of innocent Abba citizens, and let the courts decide.

CrimeRe: How Port Harcourt Serial Killers Operate - Twitter User by foreshore(m): 9:36am On Sep 16, 2019
MediaGuru36:
A Nigerian lady has revealed the 'modus operandi' of the alleged serial killers on the lose in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, Igbere TV reports.

This comes barely 24 hours after another female victim was found dead in an hotel room in the city of Port Harcourt, on Sunday.

At least, 10 ladies have been reportedly killed under similar circumstances, within the space of few months all in Port Harcourt.

According to the Twitter user, who shared the tips in a tweet sighted by Igbere TV, the killers are ritualists who pose as potential customers to unsuspecting victims.

According to her, most of their victims (all females) are online vendors who are usually lured to the hotels to deliver "pay on delivery" wares.

She also claimed that the killers(male) usually use a lady to communicate with the "vendors", making it look really unsuspicious.

She said such "vendors", upon arrival at the hotels, are lured to the rooms by the female posing as customer, with flimsy excuse of being too lazy to walk, or not dressed up.

When asked by her followers how she managed to gather such information, she claimed a friend who was lucky not to have fallen victim, shared the story.

According to the story, the lady overheard a male voice at the background of the telephone conversation with her suppose female buyer.

She claimed her friend heard a male voice whispering to her suppose customer 'tell her to come to the room', which made her to quickly exit the premises.
