TheGoodJoe:Olaitan and imoh-ezekiel played regularly on that wing for many years for their various clubs. Even if they are natural strikers, they have proven themselves to be better strikers than the trio you mentioned with the numbers of goals they scored in a season. Haha! 16, 13 and 12 goals no be beans now. Tell me how many goals has Awoniyi scored for his present club in the 2 bundesliga this season? Tell me, how many goals did Success score in previous and present season in the LA liga? Besides he plays as a left Winger for his club . Iheanacho is not a Striker, he is an attacking midfielder. |
forgiveness: |
TheGoodJoe:These are the names of the foreign based players I listed. Dominic solanke(Striker & Attacking Midfield), Moses Odubanjo(right back) , Iorfa(right back), Tiago Ilori(center back, Right back or Defensive Midfield) and Manuel Akanji ( Center back). You can see that they are not contending for that position. The players in that position are Michael Olaitan and Imoh-ezekiel. Which of these should we drop for Saviour and Tongoli Tonbara? |
Icon4s:Bros, we know Victor Moses played vital roles on our way to lifting the Nations Cup trophy. True or false? That is what matters most. Saviour case is not any way similar to Moses Simon. Moses Simon has played 14 matches( out of 19 league games) and spent 815 minutes on the pitch this season. He has scored only one goal in the league with many assist while Saviour has played only 2 matches out of 19 league matches and spent 12 minutes on the pitch in his first year in a professional league. So, how is that similar to each other now? OK, who do you think Saviour can bench out of these players( Moses Simon, Michael Olaitan and Isaac Success)? Remember, the slot is for only Wingers. Less I forget, you said English league is overrated. ![]() Where did Ronaldo win the best player in the world before moving to Madrid? ![]() Where did Michael Owen win the best player in the world? ![]() How come this overrated league clubs played regularly in the finals of UEFA Champions League between 1999 - 2012? ![]() |
Icon4s:Yes oo. I believe so must in them after I saw what Victor Moses brought to the table at Nations Cup. At least, there must be another Anglo-Nigerian better than him. Akpom and Ibe are not in my list because they have pledged their allegiance to play for England while Iwobi can't displace(he deserves a chance thou) the one's on ground Please don't compare Ibe with Saviour, Success and Dimgba because he's miles ahead of them. Abegi. Aneke is miles ahead of Azubuike. Iorfa is a right back player so there's no need to compare him with the one's you listed. Solanke, have you seen him played before? He is a prolific goal scorer and highly skillful player. I can say he is more skilful and prolific in front of goal than Success and Iheancho. Nevertheless, Success, Iheanacho, Simon, Etebor, Ezekiel and Azubuike are all included in my list. The rest are not good enough. Tell me, which club is Saviour playing for currently and how many matches has he played this season? |
TheGoodJoe:If that happens now, they will be sanctioned. OK. I don't have problem with that. It is even what I am speaking for. Let him invite as many as he and select those that can meet his demand. |
TheGoodJoe:. Long before the 1994 Nations Cup winning team, Nigeria sort her players from the local leagues and that was because Nigeria league was very good at that time. So, it was natural for us to sort players from the National League from 60s to late 80s. However, only 4 players from our league were included in the 1994 Nations Cup winning team. |
TheGoodJoe:Of course, I am aware of the dearth of players in top European leagues when you compare them to the 1996 Olympics class. However, we can still get something closer to that. Finidi George was not eligible to play in that competition simply because of his age. The answer Is very simple. Moses Simon. |
TheGoodJoe:All these players are professionals, they can easily adjust to any coach philosophy. He will have no choice but to drop when he sees better players. I don't think clubs can delay players from FIFA recognized competition. |
TheGoodJoe:. You are right but I have modified it. |
forgiveness:Uche Okechukwu: He went to the Olympics as one of the three over aged players. Uche (the gentle giant) was already an established player with the Super Eagles and had also won laurels with the National team. However, his inclusion in the dream team was strictly based on his form at that time. Prior to the Olympics, he helped Fernerbahce to win the Super Lig in 1995/1996 season. Emmanuel Amuneke: Amunike was also chosen as an over ages player. This is simply because prior to the Olympics, he helped Sporting Lisbon to win the Portuguese cup in 1994\1995 season and he was the best player in Nigeria at that time. Tijani Babangida: He was already on the book of Roda FC in the Eredivisie league since 1991 and he was already a prolific goal scorer. In 1992/1993 season he scored 16 league goals for VVV Venlo in the Eerste Divisie (next to Eredivisie) which was enough to make them gain promotion to the Eredivisie. In 1993/1994 season he scored 11 league goals for Roda FC in the Eredivisie. He went ahead to become the highest goal scorer for Roda FC in the 1995/1996 season with 10 goals, and he also scored goals in UEFA Cup competition prior to the Olympics. Wilson Oruma: He was the highest goal scorer in the Under 17 world Cup with 4 goals but before then he already played in Ligue 1 with Lens for two seasons( 1994/1995 & 1995/1996). And that was what got him the invitation to the Under 17 in the first place. However, as we can see, he was actively involved in club football prior to the Olympics. Teslim Fatusi: He helped the the team to qualify for the Olympics football game with his goals. However he played regularly for Acec Mimosa, Servertte(Switzerland) and Ferencvaros(Hungary) prior to the Olympics. Jay Jay Okocha: This guy had already found himself in the Nigerian National team since 1993. He was even part of the 1994 Nations Cup winning team and the 1994 FIFA world Cup team. Although, he was not really a key player for the National team during those period(1993-1994) but he was already an established player with Eintrach Frankfort in the Bundesliga for 4 good seasons prior to the Olympics. In fact, his goal was voted goal of the season and goal of the year in 1993. He achieved all these at the age of 22 years. Victor Ikpeba: This why I said a player must be tested and trusted before they are invited for the Olympics. The Prince of Monaco was already a prolific goal scorer at the age of 20 with 17 goals for his Belgium team in the 1992/1993 season. This caught the eyes of Arsene Wenger to bring him to Monaco. However, he never disappointed with his goals that led to major titles. He was very outstanding for his club subsequent to the Olympics with 13 goals which helped them win the Ligue 1 title in 1996/1997 season. The point is, Ikpeba was a proven prolific goal scorer in Europe before going to Olympics. Abiodun Obafemi: He played for Toulouse in France prior to the Olympics. In fact, he played 25 league games in the 1995/1996 season. Daniel Amokachi: Amokachi was already a full squad player of the Nigeria National team since 1990. However, prior to the Olympics football game, he singlehandedly helped Everton to win the FA cup in 1995/1996 season. That alone gave him the call up to play at the Olympics. Sunday Oliseh: Sunday Oliseh played regularly for three good seasons in First division (Belgium), 1 full season in the Serie-a with Regina and 1 full season in the Bundesliga for Koln prior to the Olympics. In fact, he was already a Super Eagles player. Kingsley Obiekwe: He played regularly for Go Ahead Eagles in Eredivisie 1995/1996 season. Garba Lawal: He was a regular player for his club and the Nigeria National team before the Olympics. Mobile Opara: He was also part of the Under 17 world Cup winning team. He was able to establish himself in the Belgian league before the Olympics to. Note: All these players were able to achieve all these things at the age of 22 years. |
TheGoodJoe:I know now. I know where I am driving my point to. |
TheGoodJoe:That is exactly what should be done. You're right on point. |
Icon4s:OK, but Teslim Fatusi and Abiodun Obafemi failed with the Under 20. You're right about Garba Lawal (Esparence is a top club in Africa) but Kingsley Obiekwu ( didn't play a single minute in the Olympics) and Taribo West was not in Julius Berger or the Nigerian National League prior to the Olympics football game. They were both already established players with Go Ahead Eagles(Holland) and Auxurre (France) in Europe. In short, Taribo helped his club to win the Division 1(second level of French league) and Coupe de France prior to the Olympics. Anyway, I will gladly continue with that team profiles. |
TheGoodJoe:Yes, I agree that it should not be like that but not all of them are like that too. So, we should at least ask them first and if they don't agree then we should forget about them. Alaba was still eligible to play for Nigeria after he played for the Austrian youth teams. He was still available when he established himself in Bayern Munich but Nigeria was not just interested. That is the fact. |
Icon4s:Bros Ye..., I didn't mention these players. Please check from the one's you emboldened. However, please kindly tell me the Youth teams : Abiodun Obafemi, Tesilim Fatusi and Emmanuel Amuneke played for? Where were the likes of Taribo West, Kingsley Obiekwu and Garba Lawal based before they were been infused into the team? As you rightly said no 'UNKNOWN' Europe based players were infused into that team and so shall it be in these present team. ![]() Bros, please tell us, who are the unknown Europe based players in my list and who are the known Europe players in your list? ![]() Let's compare and contrast. Please, check my list before you write ooo. ![]() |
TheGoodJoe:Of course, their minds are where they know that they have better chances of playing regular football. Remember, Victor Moses heart wasn't set to play for Nigeria but when he was convinced, he helped us to win the Nations cup. Let us be fair to this kids now, you approached your beloved Nation but you were told your service wasn't needed because you are foreign grown player. And you expected him to be happy. Do you think he doesn't like to play under age competitions? Should he had turned down Austria invitation after his own rejected him? Let's think am now. That was enough to scare him away. However, Alaba still loves Nigeria. He showed it when he displayed the Nigerian flag after he won the UEFA Champions League. |
TheGoodJoe:OK, Since he said that he was eligible to play for both teams. It means he didn't shut the door on both Nigeria or England. The truth is Nigeria was not interested in him. Tiago Ilori profile reads ' he remains eligible to play for Portugal, England and Nigeria. The question is have we asked them to play for Nigeria? Siasia was the one that convinced Sone Aluko to play for Nigeria. |
Icon4s:Thank God you were able to pinpoint only three out the players I listed that were never part of the Youth system. The rest were completely infused into the team from European clubs.Whether home grown or not, what I know is they were the best Nigerians available at that particular time. However, all those players you mentioned already played for England national team and were not eligible to play again for Nigeria. Besides John Salako is a home grown player now but still went ahead to play for the 3 lions. So, they should not be used as your point of reference. Of course, I was not expecting them to get automatic place but all I am saying is let's give them a trial. you say what... I dey come |
TheGoodJoe:Don't worry I will search for the source of the interview, he revealed that he was eligible to play for Nigeria or England. He himself said it. |
TheGoodJoe:Nobody even knew Barkley was eligible to play for Nigeria until the day he himself revealed it through interview. He was ready to play for Nigeria or England if called upon but England gave him the call. That's all Ilori will play for Nigeria if he's convinced that he has a better future with Nigeria. Siasia knows how to talk to players. |
Icon4s: Bros, I never land na before you start to crucify me now. Yes, my argument boils down to the fact that we should not restrict our dragnet to only home grown players but to also extend it to identified potential players. That's all. That's what I am talking about many of those players were never the products of our youths system, but they were infused directly into the National team after their performance in top European leagues e.g Taribo West, Tijani Babangida, Victor Ikpeba, Garba Lawal, Jay Jay Okocha, Daniel Amokachi, Sunday Oliseh etcetera. And I far as any player is eligible to play for Nigeria, they should be given equal opportunity to play for their father land if they so wish or are convinced to do so. Remember, David Alaba made himself available for our 2007 under 17 winning team but he was told point blank that we don't need foreign grown players. Where are those under 17 players today and compared them to where David Alaba is presently? You know the answer. Please, kindly take note that Omerue is included in my first eleven players. And my choice for another player apart from Ambrose is simply my opinion. Your asked at what level Ilori and Aneke have played. OK, let me simple say that Ilori has played at the highest level of club football. He has played for Sporting Lisbon( a team topping the portuguese-liga) portugal, Granada Spain and Bordeaux France. His last season with Bordeaux was very successful because he was part of the team that secured Europa league ticket for this season. He has played in Europa league before. Aneke played for Crewe Alexander in third level of English league for three good seasons before he singlehandedly helped them to win the Football League Trophy in 2013 and became the highest goal scorer for his team in the same year with 14 goals. This earned him a direct transfer to the Belgium league. His team is presently jostling for the UEFA Champions League ticket for next season. Remember that Messi was never part of Argentina youth system but the Argentina FA tussle with the Spanish FA to have him play for them. Now, behold it was the best decision they have ever made. So, far they have not rejected publicly to play for Nigeria, so we should give them a chance because they could become our Messi. ![]() |
TheGoodJoe:The match ended 3-1 in favor of the Togolese National team. After the match our players were booed and hauled with pure water. ![]() Bros, Where they play sometimes matters oo but as you just said they should pick the best legs only even If all of them are either from home or Abroad. But the truth is best players from all over the world plays in Europe. So, you last suggestions must be considered by Siasia to pick the best and that is just my point. There is no need to restrict our dragnet only to home grown players else we will loose another Adebayo, David Alaba, Dele Alli, Ross Barkley etcetera. in years to come. Remember, Messi is not a product of Argentina home grown players. He was brought up in Spain before he played for Argentina Under 20 team. |
I noticed that many of us didn't really know how Nigeria(the dream team) was able to concur the world to emerge the winners at the 1996 Olympics football game in Atlanta. Many people do not really know how the so called Nigeria underdog team that were so called after been humiliated in their last friendly match at the National stadium prior to the Olympics which I personally witnessed at the stadium were able to defeat the almighty Brazilian and Argentina teams that paraded the best players in the world at that time or later became the best players in the world after the Olympics e.g Ronaldo, Bebeto, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos, Dede, Juninhor, Ortega, Hernan Crespo, Ayala, Diego Simon, etcetera etcetera. This achievement didn't just come by mere luck or by trial and error. This feat was possible because the coach identified and picked players that were tested and trusted in top European leagues. Players that have already established themselves in their own clubs and in top European leagues. In fact, most of those players have already won laurels for themselves and their respective clubs. These laurels ranges from African footballer of the year, UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, Africa nations cup, Eredivisie, Belgium pro league, Highest goal scorer(for their team), English FA cup, Belgium young player of the year, Coupe the France etcetera prior to the Olympics. In this light, I want to present to you the profiles of these players before they made history by winning the Olympics football game in Atlanta in 1996. These will further help buttress my point that believe best players must be selected based on club performance rather than sentiment. Celestine Babayaro: He is one of the best left back player Nigeria ever produced. Prior to the 1996 Olympics football game, Babayaro was already a regular players with Anderletch for two good seasons (1994/1995 & 1995/1996) in First Division. He helped his team to win the 1994/1995 league and 1995/1996 Belgium Super cup prior to the Olympics in 1996 which earned him the Belgian young football player of the year twice in both seasons. Taribo West: Taribo seems to be the only player that was brought from a second division team in Europe to play in the 1996 Olympics. However, he helped Auxerre to successful win the Division 1 league to gain promotion into the Eredivisie league in 1996\1997 and the Coupe the France cup in 1994 & 1996 prior to the first victorious Olympics football game by an African team. His just promoted team won the 1996/1996 Ligue 1. As we can see he played regular before he man our defense at the Olympics. Nwankwo-kanu: This name is a house hold name in Nigeria. He doesn't need much introduced but for the sake of those who don't know him before the Olympics, I will highlight his profile. He won 3 Eredivisie league(1993/1994,1994/1995 & 1996/1997), UEFA Champions League (1994/1995), UEFA Super Cup(1995) and Intercontinental Cup(1995) before he singlehandedly and heroically punctured the dreams of Ronaldo and his co dreamers from winning the Olympics for the first time with his sublime and well taken two goals that earned us the Finals. As you also see he was used to winning for top teams before....... To be continued..... |
It seems the blood of those shedd since 1959 till date is enough to form river Niger. Na wa for Nigeria ooooooooooo. |
enomakos:Really! Ok na but you still have to prove it with statistics now. Anyway, I will come back with the profile of the 1996 Olympics winning team before they won the Olympics football game. |
Is anyone still chanting GEJ my hero? |
Kingsley Ehizibue scored his first goal of the season for PEC Zwolle in the Eredivisie league today. He was substituted in the 89th minutes. Ehizibue is a Dutch born Nigerian player. Other Nigerians in the Eredivisie league are Michael Olaitan ( FC Twente), Tyronne Ebuechi (Ado Den Haag), Segun Owobowale (Ado Den Haag), Bartholomew Ogbeche (Chunbuur), Funso-ojo (Willem ii), Dominic Solanke (Viteses), Abiola Dauda (Viteses), Kenneth Otigba (Hevereen). I am still wondering why none of these players have been called up to play any of the National teams. |
enomakos:Yes oo.. I like talented players pass mediocre players ooooo ![]() |
enomakos:Tiago Ilori is likely going to play in the Olympics but I think not with Nigeria because Portugal also qualified for the Olympics. However, Samson Siasia should try to convince him to play for Nigeria. Chuck Aneke will gladly want to play for Nigeria now because he's off the radar of the 3 lions for now. But If his club book a place to play in Champions League next season then we should just forget about him. These two players are very talente and I believe that if they are given the chance they will displace...... |
