AlexBells: It is only in your dreams that Ibadan is more developed than Enugu, you mean with open defecation or what exactly. What's your Yardstick of such development? Standard of living?, housing, transportation, road network?
There is nothing in Enugu.
The service sector in Ibadan is bigger than that of almost all the service sector in SE.
Good roads, bridges, transportation system, railway, water, light, economic, social, cultural, health, education etc. Ibadan is miles ahead.
In terms of housing, Ibadan is far far ahead of Enugu. If you don't know ask or do research.
AlexBells: Well, I can’t change your perspective nor force you at list be civil and not refer to a whole tribe of people as foolish however, if you look at which tribe has the biggest indigenous industry you know the Igbo does, nearly all what you have in south west are Indian and Lebanese companies plus of course a large chunk of industrial shares going to the Igbos, Lagos is making indigenous industry impossible or tough in south west, Lagos needs to be in the right hand, second Lekki deep seaport won’t have been implemented now until Lagos or the western region have enough to export, just keep opening more doors for China, India and Lebanon
Globacom, Wema bank, Leadway assurance, GTBANK, FCM bank, Tasty fried chicken, Chicken republic, Eassay holding limited, Modandola group, Honeywell, Hyden oil, Famfa oil and over thousands of business in SW are owned by Lebanese and Indians, abi?
See as he stylishly put himself behind Lebanese and Indians.
Dude, stop fooling yourself. Which industrial shares going to SE? Mention 10.
AlexBells: What most Yorubas don’t understand is that Lagos is leading to the negligence of other Yoruba state, I happen to speak to some very intelligent Yoruba folks, who as well are impacted by Igbophobia I have told several of them, the Igbo Nation have no interest in seizing Lagos and referring to Lagos as no man’s land should be among the lingo of National trivia rather than a systematic domineering agenda.
The impact of Lagos even in the development of AlaIgbo is worrisome to me as whenever I have a chance I always remind my friends that the Igbo Nation needs to mitigate the migration to Lagos however this needs time, planning and of course alternative to Lagos, I have watched the rest of Yorubaland and none of them is really experiencing a significant amount of growth, Lagos as a port city that depends a lot on import rather than export is killing nearby economy and such it is time to vote in someone who will give Lagos a semblance of autonomy from the rest of south west states.
Look at the airport in other states in the south west, none of them is standard nor even really functional but one can see that the airport in PH is functioning alongside the airport in Enugu and other parts of AlaIgbo. Also to the average Igbo man, business is very crucial opening up or even building new seaports in AlaIgbo would be very crucial to decongesting Lagos.
The terrible side of Lagos to Yoruba development is that without autonomy for Lagos which I believe GRV would implement, other Yoruba states may be stagnated. Look at the city of Ibadan it got its first skyscraper first before Lagos, Ibadan also got the first cinema in Nigeria it is supposed to be way ahead of any city in Nigeria but today I don’t think Ibadan as a city is in the same sentence with Enugu and Kaduna the formal regional capitals when even at then Ibadan was ahead. It is not too late for the Yorubas to turn around and rethink their destiny. Open deification is a bigger problem in South West than GRV winning. I urge all sensible Yorubas that is seeing the amount of damage Lagos as a port city with import dependence is doing to the Yoruba indigenous industries.
Vote GRV for a better Yorubaland.
You're not making sense at all.
Who developed Enugu and Owerri airport? Odua during GEJ tenure. But neglected the Ibadan and Ondo airport.
As a matter of fact, Ogun state airport is 85% complete.
Moreover, Ibadan is far more developed than Enugu and Kaduna combined. No comparison.
chrisooblog: Hi everyone seems Supernerd sadly lost his dad recently. Please anyone close to him do kindly reach out to him. Comfort and condolences to you Supernerd aka doc.
Obiagu1: I think the most important thing to note is that Protectorate of Southern Nigeria's head was cut off so that Colony of Lagos would grow. We continue to pay for this till this day, it has to end.
As at 1903 before the amalgamation of the so called Southern protectorate. Lagos already had a thriving seaport, telephone, tram, street lights, railway from Lagos to Oshogbo via Ibadan, roads, bridges, banks, companies etc.
Not even one single train exited in the Calabar and that region as at then.
How did the so called Southern protectorate helped Lagos to grow?
The Awori are 100% Yorubas and from Ife Originally
On the day the British Colonial Government first landed in Lagos in 1851 Oyo controlled Badagry Area including Seme Which they had taken from the king of Dahomey along with Porto Novo (Ajase) in War .
The Oyos had initially also taken Allada ,Ouidah and Cotonou at the time but the King of Dahomey had managed to take them back while the Oyo were very busy fighting the Power drunk Afonja and the Fulani at Ilorin
The Oyos had fought Dahomey as Allies of the Eguns aare oona kakanfo oyabi had led the Oyo Army
The Abeokuta Egba Army Controlled all of Lagos Mainland including Iddo Island and all the Territory from there to Abeokuta Which they had won in the Ota War of 1842 in Which the Oyos of Ibadan fought as Allies of Oba Kosoko and the Awori and received such a heavy defeat at the hands of the Egbas that the Ibadan Army had to be smuggled back home.
The whole Episode almost led to the downfall of Basorun Oluyole back at Ibadan
The Ijebu Army Controlled Everything East and North of Lekki including Victoria Island
All Oba Kosoko Controlled was the Slave market and Port of Isale Eko on Lagos Island, Even Ikoyi belonged to the Onikoyi who was Awori Yoruba with Oyo roots
Again if you hear that Yorubas spent 100 years fighting themselves till 1878,
Just know that the Egba, Ijebu and Oyo Which included Ibadan were also fighting for Control of the Coast of Lagos
Control of the Coast of Lagos meant Titanic Wealth. but unfortunately much of that was from the Slave trade
The Lagos territory Controlled by the Egbas , Oyo and Oba Kosoko belonged to the Awori People who were the most Peaceful and accommodating of all Yoruba Clans
Eko is Yoruba short for Ereko which means field and for Confirmation Ereko Market where the Egbas and Ijebu traded is still on Lagos Island today
Also Eko Ende in Osun State was one of the Locations of the Jalumi War of 1878
The Awori have inhabited Lagos since the 13th Century when they migrated from Ile Ife led by Olofin Ogunfuminire who was a great grandson of Oduduwa and a nephew of Oranmiyan who headed to Benin around the same period
The Land on Which Isale Eko of the Oba of Lagos is located belongs to the Awori Yoruba Aromire family till today
Aromire was one of the Sons of Olofin Ogunfuminire
The Otun Ekiti People migrated from Lagos in the 15 th Century and share the same ancestry with the Awori of Lagos
It was the returnee Egba Slaves who had been Converted to Christianity at Sierra Leone Bishop Ajayi Crowther included that asked the British Queen Victoria to invade Oba Kosoko’s Lagos in order to finally end the Evil Slave trade
Bishop Ajayi Crowther had met with Queen Victoria and Prince Albert her Husband at Windsor Castle over the Issue of how to finally end the Slave Trade in Lagos on 18th November 1851 and the Royal British Navy Bombarded Lagos one month Later on 26th of December 1851.
Bishop Ajayi Crowther who was originally from Osogun near Oyo had himself at age 13 been sold to a Portuguese Slave Trader at Lagos for a bottle of Wine and some Tobacco leaves
Capt Labulo Davies who later married Queen Victoria’s adopted Daughter Sarah Bonnetta (Aina) originally from Ilaro , was on the British ship that Bombarded Oba Kosoko’s Lagos in 1951 and Oba Akitoye whom the British had restored to the Throne of Lagos had first met the British Missionaries at Abeokuta while he was exiled there as Abeokuta was also Oba Akitoyes Owu mother’s Hometown he had promised. to end the Evil Slave Trade if the British helped to restore him to his Throne which his nephew Oba Kosoko had Usurped with the help of some local and Portuguese Slave traders after Oba Akintoye had driven the Portuguese Slave Traders out of Lagos 6 years earlier
Slave Trading was Oba Kosoko’s Business and his Slave Market was at Ereko Market of Isale Eko on Lagos Island where he also sold European made Goods
Ok listen to the Oba of Lagos Himself At 25 mins of the Video below the what did Oba of lagos mean when he Said "I am a Yoruba monarch" ?
renderme: He didn’t disavow, he doubled down. Lol! Have u seen the one he was praising ojukwu in an interview? Here’s the link:
In Lagos, we are children of Obafemi Awolowo, Lateef Jakande, Madam Tinubu, MKO Abiola, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We are not war merchants, we believe in ONE NIGERIA yesterday, today and forever!!!WE ARE YORUBAS
And here is the link to the GRV twitter spaces discussing how “igbos should take Lagos and chase all traditional rulers from power as they go to vote LP”
Lord Lugard predicted that Lagos would become the Financial Centre of all Central Africa
Everyone now knows that he was right
Exactly, but someone is trying hard to change the narrative and make one believe Lagos was a wilderness developed by immigrants from neighbouring communities. Not true.
chivic: Point of correction the progress has been since 1950 when Lagos was made the capital of Nigeria and all major businesses and head offices where located there .
It might interest you to know that Abuja is also developing fast because it's now the federal Capital on naija
Wrong, Lagos had electricity, roads, bridges, ports, airport, tram, telephone, railway, banks, etc as at 1902 long before Nigeria was formed in 1914 and before it became the capital of Nigeria in 1914.
The biggest Investors in Lagos are SW and foreigners.
Sevenworldpower: 19th century means period between 1800 to 1899. Non-yorubas have been living in lagos before creation of Nigeria. See screenshot. Tribalism is when you think recently yoruba migrants are more lagosians than non-yorubas who have been residing in lagos before 1900. Even if they are just 5 persons they are more lagosians than oyo indigenes who went to lagos to struggle.
The point still remains there non-yoruba from the entity called Nigeria today before the creation of Nigeria. Fact.
See the census conducted.
Encyclopedia will not save you from being bursted as a liar.
Sevenworldpower: Read with understanding. Before and after Nigeria was formed, non-yorubas had settled in lagos. Before 1914, it was through trading with Europeans. After 1914, world war 1 and 2 returnees settled in lagos. Ww1 ended in 1918. Ww2 ended in 1945. If you are not stupid i hope you understand now.
Sevenworldpower: Not totally truth. Igbos are too lousy. More yorubas are supporting Gbadebo especially after Tinubu has won Presidential election.. Yorubas mostly voted against Tinubu hoping to vote for Sanwo if tinubu lost election. There are 2 enemies of lagosians- Tinubu and MC.. Some non-yorubas are more lagosians than many yorubas. Non-yorubas have been living in lagos before creation of Nigeria. Beside, lagos is not Yorubaland absolutely. Egun people of badagry are not yorubas. Badagry is one of the major division out of 5 in lagos state. LP candidates are more lagosians than APC candidates.
See the bolded and it has been debunked. You lied.
No non-yoruba lived in Lagos before the creation of Nigeria. Fact.
Sevenworldpower: No!! How did egun get to lagos? Europeans did trade with other west African tribes- hausas, fulanis, igbos, benin etc even before creation of Nigeria and lagos port was in use then. Anywhere there is water you would see cosmopolitan of people. The same thing applies to nodal town. Also after ww1, many west African soldiers who fought alongside British soldiers who returned homes mostly settled in Lagos. In the next 100 years, yorubas would be a minority group in lagos. Presently indigenous lagosians are minority group. It can only be reversed by disintegration of country with visa restriction or decongestion of Lagos by opening ports in other parts of the country. Geography 101.
Stop fooling yourself. WWW 1 was in 1914, the year Nigeria was formed.
Besides, non Yorubas that participated in the war arrived in 1918 after the war.
No non Yoruba lived in Lagos as at 1914 neither did they trade in Lagos port. Where the Benin, Igbo etc traded were Benin port, Calabar port, and Lokoja port, the Sahel respectively.
Is it the Aniomia and Onitsha that were still engaged in war with British uptill 1914 that will trade with the British?
Or the Aro confederation that Britain fought and won in 1902 that will trade with British? In fact, the Aro trade route went through the Niger Delta.
Let me educate you of Egun people, they were not part of Lagos until 1967.
However, they are part of Yoruba clan.
See non Yoruba in Lagos as at 1960s. Before then, it was zero.
Sevenworldpower: Not totally truth. Igbos are too lousy. More yorubas are supporting Gbadebo especially after Tinubu has won Presidential election.. When you say non-Yoruba has been living in Lagos before the creation of Nigeria, please make it clear you are referring to the Portuguese and British only because as at 1900, many parts of the present day Nigeria weren't yet conquered even till 1910.
Therefore, be guided that only Yorubas, British and Portuguese resided in Lagos then.
