What I do know is environmental factors, socio-cultural dynamics impact and learned abilities. And then there are natural affinities.
Brazilian's have the samba dance 🩰 and it really gives you a skill set at a very early age where you can move your feet 🐾 super fast. Football is a dance , particularly the dribbling skill. Ajax introduced dancing as part of their training programme.
Michael Beale was the U12 Development coach at Liverpool FC. Arsen Wenger explained that the tacit skills associated with dribbling, first touch, etc are all developed very early that's before 13.
An academy will teach you a whole lot. But the greatest teaching comes from your environment and at the head of that is your parents.
So spending copious amounts of time playing with your children in the park , having fun and doing football tricks, skills, etc, sons trying to outskill Daddy night and day is the greatest teacher. Boys will take those lessons and play street football ⚽ with their mates and further develop those skills to become an expression that is unique to him, your son. He may at this stage have a nickname like, ZZ. This is the beginning.
Abedi Pele sons spent so much time with their Father in Ghana at his academy, he transferred so much to them. When they went to Marseille they already had their own distinct football ID. The rest is history.
I know some Nigerian international who were exceptional players but didn't spend enough time with their children. They brought their kids to England, l couldn't bring them to any academy, the Academies were ready to take them immediately assuming skill transfer to children and Daddy's name. In my opinion it would have been shambolic for those kids and painfully embarrassing. So l didn't take them.
If you can play 🐾football ⚽ score goals 🥅 with your children and create happy bonds and transfer a unique identity 🆔 and football ability that no academy can teach them. That transfer of skill includes Fathers values, discipline, diligence, respect, application, humility ,and the fear of God 🛐.
That will make your son successful at football, successful in School as well as a true Fathers son and create an everlasting bond.
Bukayo Saka had excellent results at school but he took a character from home to Arsenal Academy.
Now if you know sabe play ball ⚽ Ah well you will have to find another way, sorry .
I totally agree with you on this. As a matter of fact, that is what I did with him when he started walking. I would dribble him all around in my living room while he cried and attempted to get the ball.
I also tried to make him use both feet from that age but the boy changed from his right to his left foot.
Later when he was 5 or 6 years old, I started teaching him how to shoot with different techniques. i.e how to score goal by practicing penalty shoot out with him. I made sure he is the goalkeeper because I wanted him to experience and feel the deception that comes with shooting (a feign shots and slow shots). Then I gave him the chance to try the techniques out on me as the goalkeeper.
I noticed that was how he learnt his shooting techniques because I saw my skills trait in him.
Later, I allowed him to play in the compound with boys on our street. I noticed his dribbling skills improved because Aba boys sabi play ball.
In fact, what you said is true. One of his friend at Aba then didn't know how to play ball at 7 years but as he continued to play football on the street and park his skills improved dramatically at 10 - 11 years old.
Environmental factor and social culture dynamic impact play major role in football development.
Nowadays, I don't have time ooo but I will start again.
Kog45: I remember you asked about good academy sometimes ago...since you want education, why not try Kwara football academy. They have very sound school curriculum with good environment. The school principal is a brother who don’t joke with academic.
Baba, that place far ooo. I will look for one around. Thanks for your advice, baba.
AndSunGorilla: My 10 year old also likes football, he's trying but he is not a Messi or Okocha. A condition for playing the small league in my city here in obodo oyinbo is God grades, bad grades, no soccer, dazall!! And really here in the US, that's what they do for guys playing sports for their schools, right from JSS, to be part of the school team, there are minimum grades they must get. I totally understand your thinking as a parent too, yes professional players make a ton of money, but for every 1 successful player you see, there are thousands if not more that failed. The chances of making it through professional sports is very very slim, hence not a bad idea to have a backup plan tbh.
You understood what I am thinking. Me wey don follow players for decades and saw many failed along the line go fear for him.
AndSunGorilla: Though I don't like betting but the betnaija guy is truly a visionary!! If we can have more like him, our football will drastically improve in a little while. Even basketball too and for other sports.
He has an airline called Valuejet and other businesses but that betting na number 1.
That place is world class. I no go lie. His u15 won NPFL u-15 tournament last year.
The club has prospect to redeem Nigeria lost glory in Africa Champions league.
AndSunGorilla: Just show him videos of Socrates, tell him Socrates was a medical doctor while playing in multiple WCs. Adokie Amasemaka was a law student while playing for Nigeria, he even became AG of his state, mathematical Segun finished from the polytechnic, Felix Owolabi has a PhD, Bonucci has a masters, Olofinjana has a masters etc. Long story short, he should try to do both. Infact you can use carrot and stick, with football has the carrot to be enjoyed but the condition is, he must perform well in school. Good luck Baba Oloye!!!
That a very good idea my man. Thanks.
I will take note of this.
The initial carrot and stick I wanted to use was, he must be better than Ronaldo, Messi and Pele before I can allow him to take football as profession else no way, but the boy tell me say him better pass all of them. Na dere I began to think about him going for trail because of his confidence.
Now, I will adopt your formula because the boy doesn't really have interest in studying though Automobile engineer is his second option.
Kog45: Nice one baba,if your boy is extremely talented then he should face his education and get local academy for him in your area....Emma Olisadebe was a university student doing what professional footballer cannot do.If he had his Dad support he would have been a Nigeria great but it took coach Amusa Adisa to tell him forget your Dad and face football.I remember world university games changed Emma story.
Truly, not easy combining education with football.Jonathan Akpoborie and Emma Emenalo left football, went to US universities and returned to football but only few can do this successfully......Sincerely the ball is in your court to let your boy achieve his dreams and don’t be surprised if your boy goes against you if you insists on education first...Taiwo Awoniyi used his Jamb fees to travel and had successful trial with academy, but later had the university degree his father wanted him to have....Sir,just guide your son to achieve his dreams.
Well, I wanted to be sure if he really got the talent to execell before he embarks on this journey but now I know, I am seeking God's guidance.
I am also aware that he could go against me since I be em father na. Omo ti ekun ba ekun ni jo.
That was another reason I jejelly took him to the academy before it gets to that stage.
So, for now, he understands I am supporting him but on condition he must finish schooling.
Make election finish before I see wetin go happen.
chrisooblog: Nice one. The truth is now is the best time for your son to learn the basics if he really wants to pursue a career in football. Delay could mean he will be playing catch up to his peers.
Goodluck to your boy if he decides to go down that path.
Continue to guide and advise him very well.
May God reward and bless your efforts.
Amen! Thanks.
I think so too. That's why I am thinking of getting a club closer to me or look for school nearby. After election, I will see what happens. Although I prefer the place ooo.
Football career na 50/50 and it has short life span. That's why I am emphasizing he goes to school while playing football.
Afunleshin26: Is there no education plan with the training...why can you change his school to a near by school close to remo where he can visit the facility everyday while schoooling. Please don't kill the talent.
I think there's but that aspect wasn't clear.
The coach promised to send me videos of training he needs to do until he finishes school.
The club definitely know how to do things professionally.. in the long run, the money made from players transfer and sell on bonuses would cover for all expenses!
They will definitely make their money back. In fact, 5 of their players are in Portugal with Soname's club and other different clubs. Imagine if them blow, Soname go make money.
The club has world class facilities. Their hostel bi like hotel. Standard. Gym, Olympic size swimming pool, health care center (them give my son free massage therapy because of muscle pain), restaurant, 3 training pitches etc. Master class.
Unlike some academy that collect money before you do trail.
He's been talked about but could he be the anointed one to end our midfield woes?
This Beyond Limit academy is good.
I took my son there for trials. The facility there is world class and they scout for good players from different parts of the country.
My son surprised me in the first 2 a side trail. He destroyed all the players on his way with his skills. Even the players called him "e le yi bad goon" meaning this one too good. That was the first time I saw him played and realized why he wrote footballer as his occupation in his secondary school form although me I changed am ooo.
Anyway, after that was the 5 a side. He wasn't that bad though being his first time on the field with trained players. Na there I realized talent is not enough but understanding of the game.
He was better than most of the players in 2 a side but when those boys (including 2 girls) started playing 5 a side, they were so good with positioning, transitioning and passing. In fact, they understood the game better than my son.
Immediately after the game, the coach told me he has potential but not up to the standard of gaining admission into the academy. So, he encouraged him to keep training where he is coming from but when I told him I don't allow him to go out not to talk of training, he was shocked.
He said, "are you sure he never trained anywhere before now?" I said yes. He said "with what I saw that means he will be a good player if he trains more" then he advised me to bring him again for trial.
At the next trail, he said bring him everyday, he's got the talent to be a great player but unfortunately he must finish school before football. That's how it ended.
There is one 10 years old boy from Abuja. He trains with the under 15 and 17. This boy is too good. He is the best player among the u10 and u15.
That club knows how to get good players. There are more far better players in the academy than this one in Millan now, and they are still recruiting good ones everyday without collecting a dim.
In fact, they give them free food and free accommodation. You heard me. Everything na free there as long as you've got the talent. Gbam.
Pauldollars: Nooo, not up to. Possibly about 40-45% of Yorubas of same faith with BAT. The majority of Christians like me in Yoruba land do not support Tinubu. Come to our main stream Pentecostal Churches like RCCG, Deeper Life, MFM, Living Faith etc. We all know who to vote for, but majority are just waiting till February 25th and won't air there views publicly
If you think Jorginho won the UEFA man of the year by fluke then you don't know anything about football. For Guardiola to had fought to have him when he was at Napoli, then you should have known he is good. Forget he is old and slow now but he is very technical with his touches.
