To : He was a major part we won the Afcon

To : I think Victor Moses was the reason we won the Afcon grin
To sum it up, Victor Moses singlehandedly won us the AFCON. Gbam

If not, why did he win Nigerian footballer of the year ahead of other players?

Single-handedly retired too. Doesn't this qualify as folly - you picking him over the talents we currently have on ground?
It is only a qualified fool that thinks his opinion should be others.

Exactly why I had a quick search done in anticipation of this. wink

Below is Bleacher report's expert opinion on why Mikel should have been named the Afcon 2013 player of the tournament. Even before the final, they wrote a few articles stating Mikel's importance and predicting he will come big in the final. Well, they got it right. Mikel was the Final MVP.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/1524167-why-john-obi-mikel-should-have-been-named-afcon-mvp.amp.html

The last part of the article link above said this below:

As a result, we saw a player we’ve only seen in patches during his time at Chelsea. Robust in a defensive role in front of the back four and imperious on the ball and in his movement, Mikel was the best midfielder on the park in every match he played. That Nigeria so fully deserved their quarterfinal win over Ivory Coast was largely down to him; that the Nigerian attackers had a platform from which to demolish Mali was largely down to him.

That the centre of the park was shut to Burkina Faso’s passing was largely down to him, and Nigeria won the tournament’s showcase match because of it.

There was an array of stars at the 2013 Cup of Nations, and Pitroipa was certainly among them. But Mikel was a supernova. And when he shone, the stars disappeared.
I agree with their opinion Mikel was up to the task against Cote d'Ivoire and Mali but I don't think he should win the MVP.

Moses was the reason we won??

If victor Moses was that important why was Mikel nominated for African player of the year for that year and Moses was overlooked (despite the fact that they both won the Afcon and Europa league that year)
Mikel was crucial to Chelsea winning the Europa and he was part of the AFCON winning team.

You don't think Mikel deserved the Official Player of the tournament after such an imperious tournament? Wow. I need not ask who you had in mind for the award.

Forgiveness. My point has been made shaa. It's okay if you think Victor Moses was the sole reason we won. That is your opinion. But several opinions including expert Opinions suggest Mikel was the main man and was the worthy player of the tournament. So it's fine.
I am oblivion to the bolded though.

Bro...firstly,Our team is not that young again. Experience is not as important as tactics, cohesion et al in football nowadays if not Argentina or Spain should be at least a semifinalist during the last world cup. But if a coach must add experience to his team,it should benefit the team...Musa is a perfect example. Ighalo and vicmo won't add anything new to our current team.
As for Nwakaeme, I support your opinion.
As for kalu ,I want you to know that a player's form in the national team will still get him a call up irrespective of his club form. Onuachu and Simy didn't performed as expected for SE compared to their club performance . As long as kalu put up a decent performance for SE ,I don't think there should be issue with his call up sha IMO
If that be the case, don't you think they stand a better chance?

No you are saying he singlehandedly won us the Afcon. That is different from saying he played a major role. Mikel also played a super major role. Enyeama and Emenike too. Moses was not the Chief Act. He was one of the Top acts in the team. Mikel won two MOTMs, Moses won none.

Yes he was given the Samsung fair play award and made the team of the Tournament.
Mikel too made the team of the tournament and almost everyone knows Mikel was the player of the tournament which the organisers gave to Pitroipa. A true robbery.
But Moses won Samsung fair player of the whole tournament. I don't think Mikel was suppose to win the player of the tournament.

Anyway, from my own perspective, I think Victor Moses was the reason we won that cup. That's my own opinion.

Nigeria 1-1 Burkina Faso
MOTM: John Mikel Obi

Nigeria 1-1 Zambia
MOTM: Kennedy Mweene, GK (Zambia)

Nigeria 2-0 Ethiopia
MOTM: Vincent Enyeama

Nigeria 2-1 Cote D'Ivoire
MOTM: Sunday Mba

Nigeria 4-1 Mali
MOTM: Emmanuel Eme ike

Nigeria 1-0 Burkina Faso
MOTM: John Mikel Obi

Victor Moses did play a major role for us but I hope this also explains to you that he didn't act alone.
Oh! Okay. The bolded is exactly what I am trying to say. However, I will acknowledge he didn't act alone.

I can c dt majority don't want to c d so called old legs again in our team.however my position on dt is dis
1) I av not seen a team been rewarded with trophy or laurels for parading d youngest team in a tournament. D idea of capping d age of those who represent us in a tournament irrespective of d talent doesn't seem ideal to me.
D advantage is dere no doubt (we would av a team dt can last us up to a decade) but @ d moment we re yet to c result.we av been parading d youngest team since 2018 with nothing to show for it.I c no reason y nwakaeme can't be giving anoda chance again in team despite pulling nice stats for his club,he was shut out obviously because of his age. I saw d stat of rohrs untouchable player Samuel kalu.his stat is so poor dis season.more like a Gk stat, yet he keeps getting d invite and making d starting line up all because he's young cool

2) for d oldies in d aws ,let's go back to d memory lane and look @ d teams dt lifts d previous world cup.the least average age is beyond 26years.this shows dt experience counts if well blended with d young talent.I will support forgiveness on dis. Beside dt,musa has shown us dis in d past world cup, when chips were down ,he lifted d team with his goal..Iceland and also against argues(2014;though we lost smiley)

3 if d players (v.Moses and ighalo re WILLING to come back) if I am rohr..I won't hesitate to bring dem in.dis is bring healthy competition in d team
U can't imaging a Vic mo and ighalo on d bench wyle our strikers(osimhen/nacho and chukwueze) would naturally give deir all on d pitch cos dey knw dt once dey mess up..d next match ,dey won't smell d starting line up in d next match..dis kind of competition has been missing in eagles for a very long time..d last time I can remembered such competition existed in super eagles was in 2005/2006,dt team was star studded but were very unlucky coupled with indiscipline and bad management. That team could av done wonders if dey had qualified for d 2006 world cup edition. So.in a nutshell.. I believe if a player is still playing actively at d top level and he's still willing to play for us..d door is wide open irrespective of ur AGE.MY OPINION cool
Well said.

Playing as a Winger in the Afcon he scored only 2 penalties, is that your definition of single-handedly giving us Afcon?
12 goals and 7 assists in 32 matches wey bring Afcon cup for the national team. Should we ignore this fact?
