Timeline of Mombasa is from 12th century. We already had Bornu empire as at 8th century. My friend don't open your mouth without doing proper research.
vankelvin: With all these said by you, your president still remains the leader of illiteracy in your zoo.
Don't forget that nigeria still remains the dirtiest jungle in Africa. 99% of your population still can't pronounce English words correctly, they speak English like the way they eat human meat in absurd manner
If a ''big slum'' like Ghana can attract millions of zoogerians, then I wonder what a ''city-like Ghana'' will do. Even after we closing down your shops, deporting you guys every year, nigerians still cant leave the ''slum Ghana''
Ghana is million times a better place to live than the zoo of Africa
samorobo: Yes uyo vs Mombasa...Mombasa is one irredeemable slumpolis with no road and a dirty open air market for a CBD...is that true or false..
Bros, take am easy na. Uyo still dey develop but it is as economical vibrant as Mombasa though Uyo has world class infrastructures. For now, Mombasa is still more developed than Uyo. Maybe in 5 years time, Uyo may surpass Mombasa.
If I have to judge according to Kenyan's standard, Uyo is better because it has a Skyscraper while Mombasa don't have.
rvp2018: Mombasa Island or old town is protected. It's older than anything in Nigeria. And yet it still look better than anything in Nigeria. You can nitpick slums. But if you talking about narrow streets...it old city when there no cars...but horses and donkeys.
vankelvin: And you believe any of your cities have better hygienic conditions? See who is talking about hygiene here Or you believe your 70%+slums with 30%nice looking cities qualifies as cities abi? You are a big joke. A nigerian has nothing better over Ghanaian. Can you compare the quality of old buildings in uyo, Onitsha, Kano, kaduna, Ibadan, Benin, Jos, Maidugri to those in Kumasi?
Or you think those newly constructed roads, street lights, Airports, round about and landscaping is what make your slums better than a Ghanaian city.? You are a joker. You are even proud of Lagos? those cities of Ghana you mentioned are not up to a standard City in Nigeria because they are not made up of 70%+ slums like your cities. Go check the poverty rate in all these cities and compare to your cities. The worst things you find in Ghana are times15 in your zoo
Oga! Stop disgracing yourself here. I have been to Ghana many times and Ghana is not better than Nigeria in everything. Stop fooling around.
If you say Nigeria cities are 70% slums, what is the percentage of slum in Ghana cities?
so people, there are over a 100,000 matatus in Nairobi and most of them aren't the fancy buses you're you been made to believe. for all you know these shiny buses could make only 5% of the entire Nairobi matatu bus fleet. all you need to do is to run a Google image search on matatus and you'll see them in their real form.
below is a matatu sample in it's natural form and habitat.
Shma: I'm actually doing this because your egotistical mor0ns are posting bs, they want to compare Mombasa with uyo, that's a disgrace. . They are saying 94% of kenyans live in poverty, does that even make sense? . Am just returning the favour, no big deal.
If there are stats to proof from a reputable source to back it up, it makes sense. Like Kibera is a slum, is a fact.
Shma: of course that is your city, it can't exactly look like kibera on ground but I can tell without fear of contradiction that that place in your CBD looks like a big slum when aerial is taken. And then again you're giving me a different pic. Look at what am talking about, slum integrated city ..
Show me where Lagos Island is dragging first position in slumpolio of the world in any link?
Shma: Don't you think it's affecting your zoning and aesthetic view? Imagine those shacks are covering almost 90% of your entire city, and I bet the hosts are middle income and low income fellas. That plece should be looking like hell bro, you can't find such hedious planning in Nairobi.
Shacks?
Do you know how much it cost to have a office space in Broad street in Lagos Island?
I know because my family once owned one sometimes ago.
I can tell you these are 2 floors upward.
Now look below for street view of the same place. Does it look like kibera?
Shma: lemme move slightly to the island . More shanty houses.
The picture below is the same Lagos Island. Looking closely it's not a slum. The reason no where it shares any position with Kibera and those slums in Nairobi.
First picture is Lagos Island. The second picture is a city in Europe. Tell me the difference. Is it a slum?
Shma: what about big slumish lagos I can see 98% of shanty houses.
This is beautiful. Blend of European and Brazilian architecture built in the19th century and Skyscrapers built in the 20th century makes it beautiful like some Europe cities. Except you want to call Coimbra, Florence etc.
Now, show us where Lagos Island shares the same position with Kibera or slummish areas in Nairobi in any record.
TMKsouth: Exactly what did your mom tell you about Joburg? You said she's been here before. Which parts of the city did she visit to think Abuja can compare?
Stop recycling this same pictures of the 4 to five buildings. Is that all Sandton got?
vankelvin: South Africa with its small population compared to yours can boast of 90,000, 70,000, 60,00, and so many 50,000 and 40,000 Sitting capacity Stadiums. A country of over 200 Million? being so proud of a mere 60,000 and some few 50,000 and 40,000 sitting Capacity stadium ah, I shy give you. Such a pity.
Prior to the world cup, Calabash stadium was just 40,000 and the highest was never reached 50k but due to necessity, they upgraded. Why should we have 90 when we are not hosting a major event like the world cup?
PHAYOL81: No, Lagos State (and Lagos Metropolis) only comprises of only the Mainland and the Islands. Infact, the Mainland cannot be any more stretched because it has gotten right to the boundery of other state hence the reclamation of lands from the sea to cover up the growing population. Lagos City once comprised of the SURULERE, FESTAC, YABA, LAGOS MAINLAND LG, LAGOS ISLAND and IKEJA. Right now, Ikeja is being touted as a City on its own and rightly so. Even the others are so big and so populated they had to stand alone for better development save the Lagos Mainland LG which should be merged to Yaba which is more developed.
Ikeja was not part of Lagos City because it was planned and built from the scratch by Western Region government. Lagos City actually stop at Yaba. From Jibowu down to Ilupeju to Maryland and finally Ikeja were developed and under Western Region. Festac is in Ojo town too. A city on its own in Lagos State.
Roan7: Yes, there were a lot of criticism about the Eko energy design, because it was kinda boring, so that's why they change the design, and i'm glad a proper design is coming on board.
Perhaps, the former design was poor. I think this is better.
There are many projects going on in EAC and we will soon begin to see them.
MiddleDimension: yes. and i am impressed by what they did. they have hosted the best world cup as far as glamour and glitz are concerned. and as far as i am concerned too. this is despite the usual western propaganda against developing nations for trying something big. i know the level of bad press being given by the likes of global media in the run up to that world cup.
however, we should have been the ones to host that tournament had it been the opportunity came in the the 90's when there was still a good national orientation among Nigerians not now that there is wide spread cynicism and intense pessimism among the people. and they think they are being smart. the only way Nigeria can solve its infrastructure problems is if she attempts to host a major world tournament like the olympic games. i have noticed we wake up when there is international eyes on us. you won't want to disappoint. if we had hosted the world cup in 2010, our roads would have been fixed. our trains would have been fixed long ago before now. our airports would have given been upgraded. a lot of the infrastructure SA has today were put in place when they hosted the world cup. the good thing there is the fact that these infrastructures last long for you and i to use. it can become our own share of the national cake.
I will of the same school of thought that hosting a major event like Olympics or world cup will forever changed and improve infrastructure in Nigeria.
MiddleDimension: Lagos is actually what is called conurbation in Human geography. you can google it to know more. some of these people just do not understand what Lagos is. it is probably the only conurbation we have on the continent.
I know already but I think SA and Mauritius have it.
samorobo: Wow I am not aware...I always hated the very basic design of those towers and still remember how people criticize the design on all of EKO ATLANTIC social media handle...it's good to see they have changed it....now this looks better...
That's the latest. I think it is the second phase. The mall is part of the first phase.
jln115: The same for the most part. The capacity of Ellis Park was in fact downgraded to 60 000 from 65 000 Newlands was never used for the Fifa world cup and received no upgrades Kingspark was also not used for the Fifa world cup and received no upgrades Loftus only received a roof on the east pavilion, no Capacity upgrade Mmabatho Stadium was never used for the World Cup and received no upgrades Johannesburg Stadium, Athlone Stadium and Charles Mopeli Stadium were never used for the Fifa world cup Toyota Stadium only received a 5000 capacity upgrade for the Fifa world cup
