bugzy84: Late Prof Tamuno NEVER made the comments ascribed to him. At best this is lazy journalism (there is no NIPPS Jos - there is NIPSS Kuru).
His family (3 of his 4 children are lawyers so ‘Awareness’ Media should be careful) have responded:
From: Ene Tamuno Sent: Saturday, May 30, 2020 1:41 PM To: info@awarenessng.com <info@awarenessng.com> Subject: Re: Disclaimer: Unauthorized Use of the Name, Image and Likeness of late Emeritus Professor Tekena N. Tamuno Re: Disclaimer: Unauthorized Use of the Name, Image and Likeness of late Emeritus Prof. Tekena N. Tamuno
To Whom It May Concern:
It has come to the attention of the family of the late Emeritus Prof. Tekena N. Tamuno (1932-2015) that an article titled “IGBO ARE THE MAKERS OF MODERN NIGERIA-PROF TEKENA TAMUNO” posted on a website info@theawarenessngr.com (Opinions section) is improperly using the name and image of our dear dad, the late Emeritus Prof. Tekena N. Tamuno. The article is circulating on social media. The faceless and nameless author of the article uses the name of our late dad at the beginning and end of the Article. A cursory review of the post may lead a reader to believe that it was written by the late Emeritus Professor Tekena. N. Tamuno. Buried in the article is a statement ascribed to our dad, without a full and verifiable citation or context, which we are unable to accept, contextualize or refute, partially or fully.
The undersigned on behalf of the Tekena N. Tamuno family hereby unequivocally states that the afore-mentioned write-up posted on the above-mentioned website and circulating on social media was not written by the late Emeritus Prof. Tekena N. Tamuno nor was it approved by his family. Attaching our dad’s photograph and name to the title and at the end of the article as if he was the author of the article is impermissible. The family of the late Emeritus Prof. Tekena N. Tamuno strongly object to such unauthorized use of the name and likeness of the late patriarch of the family and submit this disclaimer to that end.
The late Emeritus Prof. Tekena N. Tamuno, of blessed memory, was apolitical, non-sectional and non-partisan and his scholarly writings reflect that. Inasmuch as everyone has a right to free speech/freedom of expression, the family of the late Emeritus Prof. Tekena N. Tamuno family is saddened that a nameless and faceless person would use the likeness and name of our dad to push the author’s narrative and such conduct is strongly denounced by the family. The family hereby cautions the general public to cross check facts that may circulate on the internet ascribed to a well known, indeed to any, personality, to verify the authenticity of the alleged facts or statements. The family of the late Emeritus Prof. Tekena N. Tamuno request that info@theawarenessngr.com immediately remove our dad's name and picture from the unauthorized publication and provide full verifiable citation of any quote attributed to our dad.
This serves to put info@theawarenessngr.com and the world on notice that future attempts to publish and disseminate information that misleads as to authorship under the name and likeness of the late Emeritus Prof. Tekena N. Tamuno will be vigorously challenged to the fullest extent of applicable laws. The family of the late Emeritus Prof. Tekena N. Tamuno reserves all its rights.
Sincerely,

Fon population = 4-5m Ewe population = 6.7m Ga population = 2m
Total of these 3 groups alone = 12.7m to 13.7m.
Where did you pull 0.5m from?? How is Aja people same as Fon people? Use your common sense now. |

bigfrancis21: https://www.dummies.com/education/math/basic-math/how-to-subtract-numbers/
To perform subtraction, first add up the Yoruba numbers one by one from the data below:
1)1200+900+1700+3200+1700+3100+3100+4800+7100+7000+11300+22600+20000+36700+14800+15500+30200+41100+89800+64000+38100+19000 = 436,900.
2)Estimated exports from Bight of Benin = 2,016,200
3) Estimated Aja exports = 2,016,200 - 436,900 = 1,579,300 (approx 1.6m). Nupe and Hausa figures are somewhat insignificant.
That's how you do basic subtraction. How did you get 1.6m for Aja slave export? This your mathematics is only for a dummy not me. What is the total export of slaves in this data below? 1,846,200 million. How come it's different from the total export of slaves from the bight of Benin at 2,016,200? Answer.

9jakool: Check out my previous post. I've already debunked his post. It doesn't make sense since Aja people today are about 500,000 which doesn't support the idea of 1.6 million of them being enslaved between 1600s-1800s. The source he quoted was referring to Aja PEOPLES comprising of 30+ ethnic groups including Fon and Ewe located West of the Yorubaland. So it's 30+ ethnic groups vs. the entire Yoruba population. I have seen it and it has further exposed that guy as fraud. I never took him seriously initially because I knew he was being clever by half by presenting data selectively to suit and back up his false claims. What a fraud. |

pazienza: Odiani were not imposed with Igbo names. It happened naturally. They naturally wanted to be like their Enu-ani neighbors.
No one forced anything on them.
You know the first Igbo miss Nigeria, then Miss Helen Anyamelune, she was from Odiani and her victory in 1958 was celebrated by Igbo Union.
Leave them alone, they have fully assimilated. All of them. Only Ugbodu still have vestiges of Yoruba. The others like Ukwu nzu are 100% assimilated. Ugbodu will follow through in time. It's only natural. We have Igbos in Isoko who migrated from Mgbidi(Imo) and Awka (Anambra) to Isokoland. They have been fully Isokonized with just vestiges of Igbo in them. You don't see Ndiigbo crying over them?
Yorubas have Yorubanized the Edo people in Isua, Ipe, Epinmi in Akoko SE, and countless others. Edo have Edonized Yorubas in Usen, and parts of Akoko Edo.
It's natural way of things, don't come here to demonize Ndiigbo. We never forced the process on Odiani. They happily embraced us. Stop lying. She is Olumumi.

bigfrancis21: Angola and Congo = West Central = almost 4m exports combined.
Bight of Benin = 2.1m exports, Aja people (majority) 1.6m, Yoruba 0.45m.
Bight of Biafra = 1.46m exports, Igbo 1.2m, Ibibio/Efik/Ijaw = 0.25m.
Once again I furnish extra data for you if you are unable to source them by yourself. How did you arrive at 1.6m people for Aja people out of the 2.1m people? I will like to know where you got that figure from? I know you have been lying but today, I don catch you. |

In some cases, some radical reformers and revivalists changed the names given to them by their parents from Igbo to Olukumi. pazienza: Olukumi in Anioma speak Yoruboid language and acknowledge descending from Owo, but are they Yorubas? Same is applicable to those Ife people in Togo. They are Ife descendants, but they are not Yorubas. They have evolved a new identity of their own. Ijebu are supposed to be descendants of Sudan and not Ife ,It took them time to accept the Yoruba tag, but they are Yorubas today, thanks to Awolowo emergence as Yoruba leader.
There are many Edoid speaking groups in Akoko SE in Ondo, but they are Yorubas today because they have forged a bond with the rest of Yoruboid tribes around them. The Usen people in Ovia SW in Edo are basically Yorubas, I have been there, they speak a Yoruboid language, their King is called Elawure(a clearly Yoruba word) and not Ovie/Ogie/Ojie as found amongst Edoids. But they are proud of their Edo identity, because for some reason, they were not involved in the formation of Yoruba as an ethnic group from the beginning and have always flown with the Edos. My good friend from Usen is named Olarenwaju.
You will never be able to convince anyone that those Togolese are Yorubas. We can accept they migrated from groups that formed Yoruba and have now evolved their own distinct entities. 1. Why did they call their language Ife? Why not another name? According to the report, it's because they traced their are decent to Ife and wants to identify with their origin. According to Fantchede, Ife Togo is widely used in Atakpame because the people, who trace their descent to ile-Ife, are the dominant group there. This invariably covers the brand spoken in Togo, too. Fabunmi notes in a study titled ‘Vigesimal Numerals on Ife (Togo) and Ife (Nigeria) Dialects of Yoruba’, “Today, the capital of Ife (Togo) is Atakpame. The Ifè (Togo) dialect of Yoruba is spoken by approximately 90,000 people in Atakpame and the speakers stretch from the Benin boundary up to Atakpame in Togo.2. Why do they call themselves Ife and not Togo or Kobokobo or Anagos? It's because they identified with their Nigerian root. This is from the horse's mouth and not a novice like you. Kotannoa, who worked in collaboration with Emmanuel Lambert to produce ‘Thebe: Danse Traditional au Togo’, a book that documents activities of Tchebe dancers, agrees with the authorities that trace the history of Ife Togo to Ile-Ife, Nigeria. According to Kotannoa, he and his people were, in the past, referred to as ‘Anago’. But they rejected the term because they believe it is derogatory. So, they opted for Ife, which describes both the people and the variant of the Yoruba they speak. He says, “Ife people came from Egypt. But our ancestors and scholars also noted that we first got to Ile-Ife in Nigeria. Our fathers lived in Ile-Ife for many years. Many of them werebabalawos (native doctors) and hunters. The tribal wars sacked them from Ile-Ife.”3. Lastly, I have been to Togo more than 60 times and I can confirm to you that all the Ife people of Togo identify themselves as YORUBAS. GBAM! It was in Togo, through this people, I got to know Yorubas are an Ethic group in Togo. According to your logic, Igbanke, EG, etc are not Igbos. EOD But Olumumi are Yorubas based on what their king said. Gbam. They have started changing their names to Yoruba, Singing in Yorubas, and changing their identify from Igbo to Yorubas. Bhuhahahaha.

I think further studies should be carried on the atakpame language, Ife dialect (nigeria) and old Ife(uhe) formally used as one of but not the only dialect by benin preist to determine the level of intelligibility et al Well, Oyo is the standard Yoruba.
