Martz101:Ramon Azeez had a good season in la Liga. He should have been in the team even before the world cup because he did well then in the La Liga but he was ignored. When it was to obvious that he was ignored Keshi decided to call him. Besides him the rest na po-oh. |
KK555:Will that change the fact that he made the team based on sentiment? Time will tell. |
1. Replace Junior Lokosa with Kayode Olanrewaju because Kayode won the highest goalscorer and best player in the Austrian Bundesliga's award last season and prior to that he has been the most consistent Nigerian striker in Europe for the past 3 years where he was always among the top 3 highest goal scorer in those leagues. This season, he moved to Manchester City but because of work permit rules, he was sent on loan to Girona in the La Liga where he was played out of position and given limited game time. He won MOTM and made la Liga team of the week in the second match he started but was benched in the next match. This made him to request a move to another club and that saw him moved to Shakhtar Donetsk. It was there his impact was rewarded with another MOTM and made Shakhtar Donetsk player of the month. 2. Replace Kelechi Nwakali for Abdul Ajagun. This is because when Nwakali played in a competitive Eredivise this season, he couldn't make the team and didn't perform when he was given the chance. That prompted the coach to demote him to the bench before he was sent back to a division lower, which is the second division. Meanwhile, this season, Abdul Ajagun was the best Nigerian performing Attacking midfielder in Europe. He already demonstrated his talent with Panathiniakos the Greece giants and Roda-jc where he won MOTMs, made team of week on few occasions before he moved to the Belgium pro league where he won MOTM and made team of the week with his 7 goals and 4 assists in 24 matches playing as an attacking midfielder. Hence, by merit he is better and he could have done better than Nwakali in that match against Athletico Madrid if given the chance. Snapshot below shows his stats as a versatile player but performs better as an AMF. 3. Henry Onyekuru should be replaced with Peter Olayinka because Onyekuru as at the time the list was made, was out for 2 - 4 months and therefore, not considered fit enough. However, Peter Olayinka who was even doing better than Onyekuru before he got injured, continued to impress with 11 goals and 15 assists this season. Second snapshot shows the positions he scored his goals.

LieDetector:Of course, Akpeyi is better. If Akpeyi made these school boy errors, I believe by now people will want his head but we know what's up. |
KK555:It's glaring to the blind that he is not ready. We have seen school boy mistakes already. We know he is there based on sentiment by the goalkeeper coach. Time will tell. |
KK555:He is good not doubt about that but he is not ready to face the best strikers in the world. We should not be expecting the best midfielders and strikers not to create chances or breach our defence because that will not happen. Even the best defence will be unlocked but the koko his the boy weaknesses have been noticed by our opponents and it will be used against him. They will capitalise on rebound shots at him. A player will take position before a player shots the ball because they know he will punch the ball to their direction. Ezenwa is also in the team based on sentiment hence should not be used as a unit measurement standard for better keeper. |
MarijuanaLORD:Yes! Of course! ![]() |
MarijuanaLORD:Uzoho being the first choice na by sentiment. He doesn't even deserves to make the 30 man list if merit was the unit measurement for selection. GBAM. |
Could formation shift save the Super Eagles? Solace Chukwu OPINION NIGERIA A' The new tactical shape Rohr has been trialling might be key to progress in Russia, but it requires dropping one of the side's star turns If there is any consolation to be had from these most recent friendlies, it is that Nigeria typically underwhelm in pre-World Cup warm-ups. The readiest example is 1998, of course, but the Super Eagles did manage a fortunate draw against Greece and a hapless loss against the United States only four years ago. In 2010, the sole victory en route to South Africa was a narrow defeat of North Korea. Yet, this is a nation whose superstition is only bested by its deep pessimism. With the national side, while a great deal of feeling is involved, there is a nod to that famous sentiment from 'Heat': never get involved in something you cannot walk away from in 30 seconds. With the World Cup around the corner, there seems already to be a mental disengagement. Perhaps that might do the Super Eagles good, to not be burdened by the heft of expectation. There is often a weird balancing act required for footballing competition: enough confidence to not be intimidated, but not so much that you become your own biggest foe. If that exhilarating win over Argentina last year helped with the former, three defeats on the spin have certainly reinforced the latter. Gernot Rohr has declared himself unperturbed, and rightly so. Friendlies are more about rhythm and squad cohesion than anything properly tactical - Jorge Sampaoli famously decried them, averring he'd rather spend time on the training ground with his Argentina side; Germany and Spain have posted poor results recently, and those are the big favourites, along with Brazil. And yet, for all that, there lingers a worry: Nigeria has never gone into a World Cup with so little clarity regarding its system. That is not necessarily a bad thing in itself. Qualifying is a whole different bucket of fish, and a style conducive to exerting superiority over regional foes might very well fall flat on the global stage. There is a far smaller margin for error. Argentina's gung-ho attacking style may have seen them blitz South American qualifying but, by his own admission, it left him praying in anguish whenever they had to defend. Come the Mundial proper, gone was the diamond with two strikers; in its place was a solid two banks of four and Lionel Messi behind a lone striker. It captured few imaginations, but Argentina made the final. So perhaps it isn't the worst thing in the world that Rohr seems to be dallying more and more with a 3-5-2. Having swaggered through a tough qualifying group playing 4-2-3-1, there seems an understanding that greater solidity is required on the world stage. It also alleviates the concern over the Super Eagles striking position by sheer weight of numbers - two is greater than one, if math is to be believed - while accommodating both the calculating John Obi Mikel and the twinkle-toed Alex Iwobi in central areas. There are only two real losers, as it were, within this shape: Kelechi Iheanacho and Victor Moses, for different reasons. For the former, there lingers a suspicion that he does not work well with Odion Ighalo. Is this how the @NGSuperEagles could line up in a 3-5-2 formation vs. Croatia? The Changchun Yatai man seems set to lead the line, but offers the same sort of movements as Iheanacho, meaning they often to get in each other's way. Neither is strong enough in terms of linking up; this was evident against Poland, and surely was enough to convince Rohr. The situation could, of course, change if Rohr tires of Ighalo's lack of goals. Victor Moses Nigeria 2018 Moses though finds himself the odd man out yet again. Four years ago, a rapid loss of form, aggravated by inactivity at club level, saw him relegated to the bench at the tournament proper. This time, the concern is purely tactical—aside the wing-back role, which he has played with aplomb at Chelsea for two season, there is no real space for him in a system without de facto wingers. The 26-year-old does not play well enough in tight spaces or have the vision required to play as a number 10, and drifts too far wide in search of space when played upfront (witness against Czech Republic), negating the entire of point of having two upfront. Rohr, however, seems determined to crowbar him into the side anyway. If indeed the German has settled on that system, he will have a tough decision to make. http://c.newsnow.co.uk/A/941269751?-18946:4882 |
Czech Republic Keeper Vaclik: How We Outsmarted Super Eagles June 7, 2018 8:13 pm By Adeboye Amosu: Czech Republic goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik described Wednesday’s 1-0 friendly win against the Super Eagles of Nigeria as a valuable one, reports Completesportsnigeria.com. Got something to say? The let your voice be heard! Back Pass *Sport related topics only* Karel Jarolim’s men were thrashed 4-0 by Australia in another friendly fixture last Friday but bounced back with an impressive showing against the World Cup-bound West Africans. “It was a valuable victory for us. We controlled the game and created a number of chances too,” Vaclik was told Tyden.cz. “They (Nigeria) played better in the second half but we stood up to them. It was a different performance from us than against Australia.” Czech Republic head coach, Karel Jarolim, made a number of changes to the team that lost to the Australians and also tinkered with the formation, adopting a 3-5-2 as against the 4-3-3 they lined up with against Australia. And the 29-year-old FC Basel shot stopper stated that the players acquainted themselves well in the game. “We were more compact when under pressure. We also used it against Germany in the qualifier and it was our best performance,” he said. “It’s good that we have two options among which we can switch." https://www.completesportsnigeria.com/czech-republic-keeper-vaclik-how-we-outsmarted-super-eagles/ |
My preferred starting eleven. ..........................................Akpeyi............... .........................Omeruo..................Troost................Ogu ..............Ebuehi...............Ndidi................Onazi..............Brian................. .............................................Mikel......................... ..........................Victor...................................Iwobi......... I will prefer Akpayi because he is simply better, and I will choose Ogu ahead of Omeruo because his passes are needed but if he fumbles Omeruo should replace him. Arguably, Victor moses and Iwobi are the most skillfull and innovative player in the team. They will create alot of chances for the team and they both have an eye for goal. |
What Super Eagles midfield needs - Bewarang By Editor At June 07, 2018 Bitrus Bewarang, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Director, has urged Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr, to strike the right balance in the team’s midfield ahead of the World Cup. Bewarang gave the advice on Wednesday in Abuja while reacting to the Super Eagles 0-1 loss to the Czech Republic national team in pre-World Cup friendly match. The match, played in Austria where the Super Eagles are camping for the World Cup, was the final warm-up match slated for Nigeria before the team departs for Russia. A Tomas Kalas 25th minute strike condemned the Super Eagles to their second consecutive defeat, having lost 2-1 to England in their previous friendly match at the Wembley Stadium on June 2. Bewarang, who was a former Super Eagles Assistant Coach, said Nigeria’s midfield had to be more mobile. “I feel that we need to get the right combination in our midfield. We need speed and more mobility in the midfield so that the attack could function better.’’ Coach Rohr made two changes to the team that started against England on June 2, with Wilfred Ndidi and John Ogu given a nod in place of Joel Obi and Ogenyi Onazi. Bewarang, a former Plateau United Coach and General Manager, however, expressed the belief that with 10 days to Nigeria’s first match against Croatia, the coach had to stabilise his team. “I think the coach has been trying to build a team and I believe that now he has seen all the players from the various friendly matches. “With 10 days left before Nigeria’s first match, I am sure what is next for him will be to stabilise the team. “Hopefully, by the time we play our first match on June 16, we will be able to get the result we desire,’’ the former Green Eagles player said. He, however, said he was optimistic that the Super Eagles would perform well in Russia. “As a coach, I always believe that we should always expect the best from our players. “Our players under Rohr have been doing well in terms of passion and dedication. “That is why everybody has the confidence that they will do better than in previous competitions and I believe that too,’’ Bewarang said. NAN reports that the Super Eagles managed to win only one of their five pre-World Cup warm-up matches. A Victor Moses penalty in the 61st minute gave the team a narrow victory over Poland in Warsaw on March 23, before they fell to a 2-0 loss to Serbia four days later in London. The Super Eagles also drew 1-1 with the Democratic Republic of Congo in Port Harcourt on May 25 before subsequent defeats by England and Czech Republic. I’ve been at Liverpool for four years now and I’m just really happy to extend my stay here, '' Ejaria told Liverpool's official website. ''It’s a massive club, the club’s doing really well at the moment, so it wasn’t a hard decision at all.'' The 20-year-old Ejaria spent the second part of last season on loan at Sunderland. Ifeanyi Emmanuel http://c.newsnow.co.uk/A/941250946?-18946:4882 |
FOUR CLUBS IN HUNT TO SIGN AWONIYI AS VISA OBTAINED Date: 7th June 2018 at 4:40pm Written by: William Howard Liverpool have obtained a US visa for their Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi as they pave the way for him to be selected for their pre-season tour, according to Goal. The football website claim the centre-forward, 20, will be loaned out again next season amid interest from four clubs in Belgium – Anderlecht, Gent, Standard Liege and Club Brugge. Goal report Liverpool could include Awoniyi in their squad for their pre-season tour of America even though he does not yet have a work permit to play in the UK, and then give the green light for him to head out on his fourth loan in four campaigns. OPINION by Finance Times Red tape has prevented Awoniyi from being able to represent Liverpool at any level since he joined the club in 2015. But the physically imposing striker is a real gem and there is a strong belief from within the club that he can eventually make an impact in English football. His reputation across Europe is growing all the time and all the big clubs in Belgium want to take him on loan next season after his excellent 2017-18 campaign at Belgian top-tier club Mouscron, where he scored 10 goals and supplied eight assists from 31 matches in all competitions. To put this achievement in perspective, only three players on Liverpool’s books – hallowed trio Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane scored more goals in the recently-completed season. Awoniyi has also been capped six times by Nigeria at Under-23s level, but, to get a UK work permit, he will need to establish himself as a regular in the senior side. But that won’t be his only chance to get Jurgen Klopp’s attention, as the possibility grows that he could take part in the tour of US in July, when matches are scheduled against fellow big guns Manchester United, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund. http://c.newsnow.co.uk/A/941282093?-18946:4882 |
Who wants to disagree? ![]() Victor Moses Rated Nigeria's Best Player Vs Czech Rep, Iwobi Second Best Outfield Player Published: June 07, 2018 Victor Moses Rated Nigeria's Best Player Vs Czech Rep, Iwobi Second Best Outfield Player Chelsea right wing-back Victor Moses was rated as the Super Eagles best player in their 1-0 loss to Czech Republic in a pre-World Cup friendly held in Austria on Wednesday, June 6. Nigeria will take on Argentina in a potential decider on June 26 during the World Cup and the South Americans monitored proceedings from the Rudolf-Tonn-Stadion (Schwechat) to know much more about their third rivals in Russia. Argentina sports newspaper Ole reckon that Moses, who was awarded 6.5 marks from a possible ten, was Nigeria's best player on the pitch but didn't get enough help from his teammates. ''His performance went from low to high and he became the figure of the Africans. He took charge of the ball, put together a game and distributed with a lot of class. He is the engine,'' they wrote on Victor Moses. Arsenal winger Alex Iwobi was Nigeria's second best outfield player with a score of 5.5, ''In the first half he did not feel comfortable and did not find the ball. But in the second half he improved..'' Francis Uzoho was rated 6 while second-half substitutes Tyronne Ebuehi and Elderson Echiejile were the defenders with the best rating, 5. Ifeanyi Emmanuel |
ykalhaji:Exactly! That bolded show say you sabi something. The only problem now is not utilizing the goal chances created. At least, I counted 4 good chances they created and missed. Haba! |
EEGA:Rohr will not drop Moses against Croatia. |
lexyman:The bolded buttressed my point about the attack. Nice one. |
Certitude:Is the 35 man list theory too? Well, e don become theory, na. |
edi287:Ah! Sorry for the late reply. I was so busy throughout yesterday that I couldn't read comments at a point before I slept. I didn't see the first half and I had divided attention in the second half. However, I really liked what I saw and I was impressed because we created alot of chances but they were not potent at goal and didn't pass to the best man in the best position to score. This happened 2-3 times when Brian had 2 - 3 chances to square pass to Ighalo and Victor but he decided to take the glory. Beside this, he combined well with other players to create those chances. I hope he got the message when he was pulled out and I hope Rohr shows him the clip again to teach him what he ought to have done better which is his primarily duty to play for the forwards and fed them first before he thinks of scoring. On the other side, I can see Ebuehi is growing in confidence to drive forward more often than before but I can still see a little bit retrain in his movement because he is very cautious of his defence. I think he needs to speak with the players to cover for him and trust the player to help him watch his back pending he makes full recovery back to his position. Once, he is sure about it, Ebuehi will bring alot of damages to our rivals when he attacks. He is very good and not selfish like Brian. Once, we are able to maximise attack from the right side like we do on the left, we are good to go because that is the strength of this formation. The three man defence is ok but I hope Rohr makes it paralle with 5 players when defending and allow the forwards to defend on the flanks. In midfield, Iwobi should be allowed to move up ahead of Mikel but I understand he had to help to defend on wing once the LWB surges forward. I was impressed with how they retained and recovered possession as much as possible with urgency, and with quick passes and fast movement. It's unlikely of our usual style of play. The attack lacks cordination and cohesion. They need to gel. I think this is where we might have problem because of lack of natural wingers. This is were problem go dey but I hope Rohr has a solution to that. Victor Moses was very impressive this time around and Ighalo also did well. I think Iwobi should combine with Moses or he is allowed to play directly behind them. Anyway, my final verdict is that this team against Czech played better than the team against, England, Poland and Serbia. I will watch the match again and have a holistic view of the match. I just gave what I saw in the second half. |
TheSuperNerd:For where! You can see I didn't say much else it is no longer secret. |
Goke7:Hahahahahaha! Let us cool down. I am really impressed with Brian but he has to do better by finding the best positioned player to score before he thinks of scoring. He should also work on scoring goals. |
Taliban:Cool down my guy. Rohr knows his best eleven and best formation. You will be surprised when you see his line up and formation against Croatia. |
Goke7:Do you think Rohr doesn't know his best first eleven and best formation? I don't think so. |
aodis:He is playing mind games. Confusing and deceiving our rivals just to surprise them. I hope it works. |
Although, I don't agree with Rohr on certain things but I can see what he is doing to our rivals. He has confused them so far and they will be surprised when we play them because now Rohr has made these teams to believe illusion about the team formation and team selection. I like that but I don't see what some players will bring to the team. Anyway, that's a good one coming from Rohr. The first victim will be Croatia. |
goldfish80:If Croatia think this is the team they will face and have a work over, Rohr has just deceived them. I can see what Rohr is doing although..... |
JoebieII:Case closed. EOD ![]() |
safarigirl:How far? Is Moses not working in this formation? |
JoebieII:What is the truth again after you agreed with me that Shehu benched Agu is misleading and vague? ![]() |
JoebieII: JoebieII:Take note of the bolded 'after' and 'far different'. Chai! You have already agreed that Agu was not benched hence your conclusion by using 'misleading' and 'vague'. Since, you have agreed to what I said before, why am I still a liar? Sorry! EOD ![]() |
safarigirl:No, he didn't and we know the reason. Does that mean Neymar is not going to start for Brazil in the world cup? |
