or you don turn pep wey dey convert player ?
He started out as a DMF.

6 Awaziem can play in central defence or defensive midfielder. “I will play wherever the coach wants me to play to help the team,” he says

This calmness carries over into his passing, which is tidy and calm; he's no Beckenbauer, but his distribution is reliable. No doubt, it helps that he was originally a defensive midfielder, and whereas his passing may have been considered limited in that position, it is very good for a centre-back.

I trust rohr to go after him should the deal pulls through.... it is so sure some players in the super eagles really need up their games...otherwise many young guns may push them out....
I thought he changed his mind to play for Nigeria after Ebuehi success.

Anyway, I think it is good for the team if new players come into the fold to fight for a shirt.

without Moses the super eagles will win matches....him playing the wing back role is for the team and not for himself...

True. But that's because we don't have a lot of options in that CB position; because, to me, neither of those two should be indispensable. Don't get me wrong, Ekong and Balogun are both good players but they also have major weaknesses:
Balogun lacks pace
Ekong poor passing technique

In fact, I still haven't given up on Awaziem snatching one of the starting CB position in Russia if those two don't shape up. In fact, Awaziem should've become a starter before now if not for his pretty poor debut game against South Africa game.

O pari
Awaziem is good but he is not a CB in my own estimation of his allround play.. He seems to be a midfielder and I think he could perform more magic than Ndidi as a DMF which was his natural position before he was converted.

Yeah you could say we have a bit more creativity on the flanks with Iwobi/Simon replacing Musa, but the middle is still the same thing. We still have highly energetic players who cover for Mikel's lack of mobility, only difference is Mikel plays in front of them instead of behind. I'd even argue over buildup play then was better than now because Mikel played deeper.
I still think a 4-3-3 with Ndidi - Mikel - Iwobi/Etebo would do us a whole world of good. Mikel would probably conserve more energy being behind instead of having to drop deep to help with buildup play.
Although, we have a bit of creativity on the flanks but the tactics differs. Rohr wants his wingers attacking and defending at the same time but Keshi's wingers according to that analyses don't defend must.

Besides, the 4-3-3 Formation didn't work for us the last time we used it against Serbia and I don't think Rohr will abandon his preferred 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-1-1 formation for that.

Moreover, Etebo has performed below average for the SE in that midfield so far.

Therefore, it's necessary Rohr tries the trio in that formation in a friendly before he gambles at the world cup with that idea which is looking good on paper.

Check this analysis on out team back in 2014. Not too much have changed since then in terms of style

Tactics: Analysing Nigeria’s tactical approach, formation, and set up

The Super Eagles of Nigeria booked their spot in Group G of the FIFA World Cup after what was in hindsight an easy qualifying campaign. Stephen Keshi’s side are now getting ready to face Argentina, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Iran for the honour of being in the World Cup’s round of 16. A feat that will definitely be a brilliant achievement from the African Champions. A lot has changed since Nigeria’s (led by Lars Lagerback) last appearance at the World Cup in 2010 that was summed up by Yakubu Aiyegbeni missing one of the easiest tap ins you will ever see. In fact 2010 was so forgettable for Nigerian football that the President banned the national team from any official matches. The said ban was only overturned when FIFA handed the Nigerian National team a ban of their own for government interruption. After a confusing period of switching manager after manager. The Eagles finally found the right man in Stephen Keshi. And since his appointment, Nigeria has not looked back. They won the 2013 African Cup of Nations and put out a good account of themselves and the continent in the Confederations Cup in a group that contained Uruguay and Spain. The Nigerian team is certainly capable of being a surprise package at the World Cup.

BASIC FORMATION

Stephen Keshi’s preferred formation since taking over has been the 4-3-3. Even though he at times experimented with a 4-2-3-1/4-4-2. If all players are fit and available, his starting XI is normally constant. Enyeama is a certainty in the post, with Kenneth Omeruo and Godfrey Oboabona being the centre backs. Efe Ambrose and Juwon Oshaniwa should be the starters at right and left back respectively, with a midfield trio of John Obi Mikel, Ogenyi Onazi and Ramon Azeez. Upfront, Ahmed Musa and Victor Moses are on the flanks and Emmanuel Emenike is the preferred striker. Although the inclusion of Peter Osaze Odemwingie and Shola Ameobi in the provisional squad means serious competition for the front 3 players.

Made using Tactical Pad

ANALYSIS

Stephen Keshi, since he took charge of the Nigerian team has favoured a more reactive style of play. The Nigerians have become very adept at holding off pressure from opponents, waiting for them to lose the ball, and then they counter with lightning speed. They are not the kind of team that camps players in front of their box looking to soak up press or “park the bus”, they look to press the opponents from the midfield, as such are closer to goal most of the time they win the ball. Even in the games versus Spain in the Confederations Cup where you would expect them to sit very deep, they actually came out and pressed the Spanish in midfield, and for a while Nigeria actually dominated the World Champions. When the ball is won in the centre, it is immediately passed to their quick wingers who use their pace and trickery to fashion out chances for the team. The fact that Nigeria’s fullbacks are not very adventurous in attack and the presence of three defensively solid central midfielders means that the defence is well protected. So most of the time Nigeria’s centre backs are more concerned with defending the box and are rarely forced out of position into the wider areas or high up the field.

The team has problems defending down its flanks especially in situations when they have lost the ball and the wingers are high up. This is caused by the fact that Nigeria’s wingers, although they try, are not very adept at tracking back and helping their fullbacks. In a situation where Nigeria were on the attack and lost the ball, the fullbacks would be isolated because they don’t go high up the pitch, and there is no way the wingers can track back in time to prevent attacks. This problem is more evident when Nigeria play against a team with an offensive fullback, as this leaves the Nigerian full back in a lot of 2v1 situations. An attempt from the midfielders to cover could leave the centre exposed, and the same goes for the centre backs as they are not comfortable defending the wide positions if their fullback is exposed. A good example of this is the goal that Spain scored via Jordi Alba to break the deadlock in the Confederations cup.

Another problem of the team is building up play via passing moves. Nigeria’s team is designed to hurt teams with quick transitions and find it hard to fashion chances against teams that are deep and compact. This is mostly because they have wingers that are better with space in front of them or behind the opposition defence to run into. The fullbacks in the team are not the offensive types so do not provide width during attacks. Another reason is that Nigeria don’t have the type of creative midfielders adept at breaking down deep defences. Mikel’s passing is at its most dangerous during counters. These factors altogether make it hard for Nigeria to break down deep, compact defences.

Another factor that could deter this Nigerian team is their finishing. The Nigerians are often guilty of squandering an alarming amount of chances in big games. In previous tournaments, Emmanuel Emenike has been their only efficient finisher, with wingers like Musa and Moses being good at fashioning out chances but disappointing with the finish. The presence of more EPL standard strikers like Odemwingie and Ameobi could solve this problem though.

KEY PLAYERS

Vincent Enyeama | The keeper has had a wonderful season at Lille and how far Nigeria goes will depend on his form.

Jon Obi Mikel | The Chelsea midfielder at club level is mostly known for his ability to provide a solid and stable screen to shield the Chelsea defence. He provides stability and anchors the midfield and also helps Chelsea slow down games with his passing and ability to hold the ball. He does the same for his country, but with far more freedom to be creative. Once Nigeria win the ball back, Mikel is their main distributor, quickly locating the outlets or sometimes splitting defences directly with through or long passes on the counter. He is Nigeria’s main playmaker and midfield anchor.

Victor Moses and Ahmed Musa | They are Nigeria’s main outlets on the counter attack. If found on the run, they will look to run at defenders and beat them with a combination of pace and trickery to create chances or score them. They are also Nigeria’s main source of width as the fullbacks are not very offensive.

Ogenyi Onazi and Ramon Azeez | The two central midfielders in front of Mikel are the ones tasked with the important duty of pressing the ball in midfield and forcing turn overs. Both players have brilliant work-rates, are strong and dynamic, and when they do win the ball, they go for the short pass to a close team mate (mostly Mikel). Both players also make forward runs on or off the ball from deep to help the attack.

Emmanuel Emenike | The striker was a key player for the team that won the African Cup of Nations. Although the inclusion of Shola Ameobi and Osaze Odemwingie casts doubts over his role in the team, he will probably still be the starter at Brazil. A striker that possesses a dangerous mixture of pace, technical ability and strength could be a nightmare for opposition defences. Emenike holds up play well, drops deep to play with the midfield allowing the wingers space in the channels to work with. All this while having a thunderous shot in him. His form in front of goal could be key for the Eagles as his absence was clearly felt in the Confederations Cup.

TALENT RADAR KEY YOUNG PLAYER

Kenneth Omeruo (21) | The 21 year old Chelsea defender has been a regular starter for the Super Eagles since their successful Nations Cup campaign. A physically imposing player for his age, he is strong, fast a very good tackler and interceptor. If he can brush up the technical side of his game and add a bit of maturity, the sky is the limit.

Ramon Azeez (21) | The 21 year old central midfielder had a good season with Almeria, during which he showed the potential that won him plaudits at the 2009 Under-17 World Cup. A capable defensive or central midfield player, he offers decent playmaking ability among other players that are more physical. But he also doesn’t shy away from a physical confrontation. He is certainly a player to watch.

Ogenyi Onazi (21) | The Lazio midfielder has proven himself to be Nigeria’s most frequent ball winner. Combining his wonderful dynamism and work-rate with decent tackling and marking abilities. He has become a main stay in the Nigerian team.

Ahmed Musa (21) | Pace, trickery and dribbling skills; those are the attributed to best describe CSKA’s Ahmed Musa. The winger is well capable of providing moments of sheer brilliance on his own.

EXTRA

There is a lot of hope going into Nigeria’s World Cup campaign. They have already showed that they are capable of going toe to toe with the best in the World at the Confederations Cup. Bar any spectacular capitulation, and as long as they can brush up on the finishing, they are in with a shout to make it out of the group. The fact that they struggle against deep teams may not be a factor as I fully expect that most teams would come at them and try to attack, which will play into their hands.

This is spot on in regards to our team under Keshi but this present team has improved with better players and the way we play. The wingers now defend unlike before and our wing backs also has the potential of joining the attack from the flanks though not like we see in other big teams like Brazil, Spain and Germany that has better wing backs.

However, the bolded put to rest the false information that Ramon Azeez was not spectacular for his club that season and he can't face physical players. Lies every where.

Arsenal: Alex Iwobi may benefit most from Arsene Wenger departure

by Josh Sippie 3h ago

Arsenal had a team full of star performers against Burnley, but what Alex Iwobi did was particularly special, given his circumstances. It’s fair to say that no Arsenal man has been more disappointing these past two years than Alex Iwobi. After bursting onto the scene, he proceeded to sputter into a struggling starter, then was dropped, at one point all the way to the U23s, and has yet to make his way back into the starting XI picture.

It’s been a heaping of frustration as no one can seem to grasp how best to utilize him and, now that he is 22, the time is getting kind of nigh. Iwobi’s final ball continues to lack any sort of threat and that can be a problem for an attacking player. Which is why, despite all the massive performances against Burnley, nobody’s performance meant more to both himself and to the fans than Alex Iwobi’s.

This was the best we had seen Iwobi in two whole years. After his initial ‘final ball’ looked like failed Iwobi and sputtered to no one, he proceeded to drop a masterful performance that saw him showcasing all of his talents and even capitalizing on the skills he is criticized for not having. His ability to drive from deep is known. It’s the one positive that we’ve been able to glean from his performances this year. When he gets on the ball, he can shimmy away from defenders with the best of them. But when he gets into the box, things change. Only against Burnley, they didn’t.

As if Iwobi knew that he had to prove something, with Arsene Wenger leaving, he was clinical in the box. Both of the first two goals began with an astute Iwobi pass in the final third that led immediately to an assist and a goal. And his goal? That was the cream of the crop. Yes, he was given all the time and space he could ever hope for, but he has scuffed many such opportunities before. Had he fluffed it over the bar and into the 14th row, we’d have shrugged and thought “yep, that’s Iwobi.”
But he didn’t. He planted it into the top corner like this was the regular thing to do.

Iwobi was a menace out there, and maybe, just maybe, Wenger’s exit will awaken in him the determination to prove himself to the world, rather than to just one man.

Egbon Forgiveness made a comment which I picked up...

He said that Moses is as good as Mane. And that Kayode even plays in similar style.

Sir TheGoodJoe had earlier even suggested that Moses' techniques and abilities suggest that he will explode in that Salah role as he got great attacking instincts too....

Mikel even said Moses is a right winger not a RWB. He only does well there becos he improvises his plays excellently but Moses at his best and in his beast mode is the Moses we see in Nigeria's colors harassing fullbacks with his trickery, power and pace as a flying and dribbling Right winger.

Moses still dey play RWB today oooo... but mehn... you can see yet again the quality of his touches, crosses and movements when he goes forward and gets into some fine positions even from his RWB role...

I have to say that I see great sense in what Mikel, TheGoodJoe and Forgiveness said on Moses.

On Kayode ..... I will agree partially with Egbon Forgiveness too. Kayode and Mane does make almost similar kind of movements or runs.

Okay tell me what’s double standard about it. Let me assume you know the meaning of your claim.
Your example of Agu and Simy is an epitomy of double standard.

It is double standard when you compared Simy who is yet to kick a ball for the national team with Agu who already had his chances.

It is justice to drop Agu because he has been given the chance but injustice to drop Simy without kicking a ball.

If u can’t get my point just forget it.
Yes! The coach can drop any player but that is after the player must have been tested by the same coach to see what he brings to his team.

The National team is not like club you buy players that suits your pattern, it's what you have that determines how you play.

Even clubs like Chelsea will not buy the coach his preferred players and the coach is expected to perform or get out.

My point remains that logical conclusion must be made after the player performing well in his club fails to suit the coach pattern of player. EOD

It wasn’t a generalization. That was your interpretation. If Rohr drops Agu — for example — just because he is not adding much to the team, despite him being highly regarded by his club coach (and this is an example), would that amount to injustice?
The question is does Rohr feel Simy can bring something to the team? That’s left for him to decide. It’s not a question of dropping Simy since he’s not been in the scheme of things. At the end of the day, personal ambition is secondary. If any player is really good individually, that player also needs to be really good working with the team.
Your analogy is floored in regards to Agu because the coach didn't ignore his performance in his club and refused to invite him to the National team just because he 'THINKS' Agu can't bring anything to the team. Rather, based on his performance in his club, the coach invited and tried him in his preferred role for him and the world to see if he could bring something to the team before he arrived at a logical conclusion devoid of logical errors in drawing conclusions from mere assumptions based on 'THINKING' or 'THOUGHT' which is inconsequential inconsistent with established fact. That is the point.

So, that should be the factor to invite Simy and others doing well before you hang them with mere 'THINKING'

Salah’s quality is not debatable. But Simy’s is.
6 goals in a season is not impressive and to make matters worse he just started scoring. A coach may not be convinced enough even with his OK goals per minute ratio. There is no guarantee he would have banged goals if he was given more minutes earlier in the season. Seeing something is believing. Anything else Is just an assumption. And to add to that if what Solace said is true it’s a typical reason why many coaches may turn their back on a player — for the general good of the team.
Then you should not have generalized by lumping all players together.

If Simy's case is what you meant, I can understand to some extent but I don't agree a coach should drop any good player because he 'thinks' the player can't bring anything to the team. Mbanu!

However, Simy and those doing well should be given the chance to prove themselves.

Coaches don’t see it as injustice to a player if they THINK the player cannot bring what they need in the team. But I’m not going to run with what Solace has just said. There must be other strong points in Simy besides his height.
For instance, Salah is currently the best player in the English league but if the coach 'THINKS' he can't bring what they need in the Egyptian National team and decided not to invite or play him, is it righteousness?

Can Simy resolve Super Eagles goalscoring headache?

The Crotone striker's rich vein of form has made many sit up and take notice, with the Mundial just over a month away

One would think that an event as huge as the World Cup couldn't possibly creep up on you, and yet it has. In five weeks, Russia and Saudi Arabia will set the ball rolling in Moscow.

It'll be three days later till Nigeria kick off against Croatia, but the fact remains that it's already at the door. Yet, unlike one might expect, there remain a number of question marks around the Super Eagles squad.

World Cups are often considered the culmination of a cycle, four years of preparation building up to one month of execution. It wasn't until 2016, though, that Gernot Rohr came on board and kicked off his rebuild of the national side. As such, Nigeria has pretty much only had half the preparation time—it is understandable that it does not have everything figured out.
One such area where clarity seems to be lacking is in the centre-forward position.

https://images.performgroup.com/di/library/GOAL/9f/b4/gernot-rohr_tz373935fwss1gtdrhe3ni1ei.jpg

Rohr largely favoured a 4-2-3-1 throughout qualifying, and while he has experimented with the team's shape in recent friendlies, that is arguably his most trusted scheme. The band of attacking midfielders is set in stone: John Obi Mikel is the captain and fulcrum, while Victor Moses and one of either Moses Simon or Alex Iwobi occupy the wide positions. But the identity of the standard bearer up top is in a bit of flux.

The recent friendlies against Poland and Serbia have sparked some concern, as the Super Eagles struggled mightily in attack, and only found the back of the net once in both games: a debatable penalty won and converted by talisman Moses.

While some of that can be explained by a more complex circumstance than simply the identity of the nominal striker, that sudden sense of uncertainty has led to a number of different candidates being thrown about for a late entrance into the World squad.
Enter Simeon Nwankwo , known simply as 'Simy'. The Crotone striker, at 25, has come into a rich vein of form in recent weeks, on target five times in his last five games to aid the Sharks' push to avoid relegation. It is inevitable, then, that his name has come up.

https://images.performgroup.com/di/library/GOAL/c9/d2/nwankwo-simy_138nosh9ajuvl1jx4mflkyh0m2.jpg

However, there are a few caveats, one of which is that his total tally isn't all that impressive.

He's scored six and assisted once in Serie A this term, and as stated earlier, five of them have come inside the past month. It is worth noting, though, that for long periods, he was not involved to any great degree: he's only played 930 minutes of league football, and so is contributing to a goal about every 130 minutes. That's respectable enough.
It does raise two further concerns though, one of which is a germane debate on the merits of form leading into major tournaments.

It is something of a paradox: while consistency over an extended period is invariably a greater measure of a player's quality, form - especially on the eve of major tournaments - might be more useful, seeing as a World Cup only runs for a month.

So, do you favour a better player or a hotter one?

The other thing to consider is exactly why it is that a player capable of scoring five in five and infusing life into Crotone's survival push has been in the cooler for so long. To an extent, the answer to this also is the greatest caveat re:Simy - as a footballer, he is not particularly impressive.

His standout quality is his frankly ridiculous frame. He stands at 6ft 6in, and could conceivably be one of the tallest outfield players were he to make it to the World Cup. Naturally, such a profound advantage would make him a handful and a headache for defenders, if he weren't so painfully static.

There is a concern over how well he fits together with the rest of the team, and his shot numbers - averaging a measly 1.35 per game - do not suggest anything particularly earth-shaking. He is lacking in pace, can be clumsy with his footwork as well, and at 0.4 dribbles per game, he cannot be relied upon to carry the ball.

Indeed, one might say that the combination of Crotone's desperation, Simy's sheer size, and the chaos factor it can foment inside the box, may have been the tipping factors in his sudden return to the starting line-up.

Even held up against some of his competitors, he doesn't compare well. He lacks the work rate and hard, selfless running of Brown Ideye, the technical aptitude of Kelechi Iheanacho, or the finishing ability of Odion Ighalo. Tactically, he also does not fit the Super Eagles' counter-attacking style.

Stranger things have happened, of course, but in all, it is difficult to see just how exactly Simy's skillset aids the team in terms of goalscoring.

Russia 2018 WC Countdown: 40 days 13 hours 56mins to go
Any player doing well in Europe should be given a chance to prove himself.

He doesn't fit or fit into the system of play is a way of giving a dog a bad name in order to hang it.

I don't believe in such ideology.

Though he may be right about his lack of pace, clumsy foot work and almost zero dribbles but he should be tried.

I noticed he lacks pace in one of the YouTube he scored twice in the match. The second goal showed he is lacking in pace because he would have scored the goal by racing towards the goalkeeper after the pass he received placed him ahead of the last defender but due to lack of pace two defenders still cut up with him and blocked his target hence the need for him to turn them an place the ball in the net. He did well by using his brain but he can't do that with better defenders.

However, he and those currently doing well should be given a chance to prove himself. That's all.

I agree that Kayode had a great season, I am just saying that Salzburg perfomance is not an indicator of overall league quality.
Kayode has been having great seasons prior to that last season. So, it's not about 'a great season' but his over all performance over 4 seasons in a row and his obvious talent that has been ignored by 'to whom it may concern' till date.

However, if Salzburg improves next season along with a team from Austrian league it will become an indicator of the over all league quality.

Salzburg won the Austrian league 18 points off the second place last season..

This season they are 11 points off second place.

Bayern is obviously ahead of the other teams in Germany because they buy all the best players in the league.
I know all these before now but my point still remains that if a player is voted the best player from a lower club instead from the best club in a league (especially in a league one of it's club is obviously doing well in UEFA), it shows that such player quality can't or should not be ignored but that is not the case with Kayode Olanrewaju who the coaching crew were forced to invite to the National team and even refused to play him on some occasions.

Like you rightly said, Bayern Munich buys all the best from the league but if peradventure a player from Mainz wins the best player of the year award ahead of the best players in Bayern Munich, what do you think about that?

Should such player be overlooked?

As it stands, Austrian league's best team is ahead of the Belgium pro league and Isreali league best teams.

They don't judge football that way okay.

Salah was named the best Epl player,is Liverpool the best Epl team this season ?

Please oga forgiveness remove sentiment, forget say kayode na our man okay.

Kayode was the top scorer in the league but Austria wein didn't win the league and they came second.

But Austria wein is the most successful club in Austria with 24 league titles while Salzburg has just 11 league title
You are not getting my point.

I never said Austria Wien was the best team in Austrian league.

I am saying even though Kayode Olanrewaju was the best player in Austrian league ahead of better players in Salzburg but yet he is not rated. Why?
