junnyjake: Is iheanacho replaceable? Yes, as a matter of fact, very well. Therefore he shouldn't be swept in the illusion that he's arrived.
I was disgusted by his conduct while he was substituted during the last game. Strolling off the pitch as if your team is 3 goals up meanwhile, you're a goal down and you had little or no impact in the game.
I'd really respect Rohr if he relegates him to the bench against Cameroon. Of course, no player in the National team is not indispensable if they don't perform in their various clubs. |

nelszx: First Iwobi should sit out that game except he ups his game before the double header but Onazi should sit on the bench for Ogu (my opinion though). If you saw the Senegal game, Ogu's presence displaced the physical Senegalese side and brought calm to our midfield. The understanding with Ndidi in that game allowed both to push while the other sits deep as cover. Onazi just run around the pitch without anything to show for it. His passes wayward couldn't connect to the attack. He was just a jack of all trade (maybe he can change his game and play like the Onazi we fell in love with in 2013) Ogu is not a DMF. He is naturally an attacking midfielder who is also very good at CMF. Playing Ogu as a DMF is suicidal. Playing Ogu as a CMF or AMF, you go see American wonder. Most our coaches seem to be very ignorant about the best position for some players. Maybe dey just wan accommodate dem players in the team hence the conversation of players upandan in the National team. |

TheSuperNerd: After the Algeria game?
But You read what Leekens said didn't you? Nacho's off the ball movements and high pressing destabilized the Algerians. When TheGoodJoe was pointing it out, people came for his head saying he has come again with cooked-up theories.
But Leekens and an Algerian Football Journo confirmed it. The coach specifically singled out Nacho as one of the reasons Algeria lost. He didn't score that day and had one shot at goal which he blew over after slightly escaping his marker thanks to Musa's fine low cross. But he did have a say on the scoreline. He constantly drew the Algerian defenders out of positions allowing his attacking team mates to exploit those tiny pockets of space.
And on Martins... my focus is not on the "go lost in some matches"... coz everything I typed there is from my head... man I was 12 mehn...
But also from my head... I know Martins suffered goals drought at the Afcon in 2006.
He only scored a brace against Senegal.
My point was based on Martins at the Afcon on the back of his super clinicality in front of goal which was undisputably spectacular.
First game vs Ghana... he fired blanks.
Second game vs Zimbabwe.... he fired blanks again.
Third game vs Senegal..... he scored a beautiful brace on Mikel's first Afcon start for Nigeria. Mikel was the architect of the two goals. Gave an assist and gave the pass before Kanu's assist found Martins.
Fourth game vs Tunisia... Martins again fired blanks
Fifth game vs CIV.... he fired blanks again...
Lemme stop here. What am I trying to say?
Trust/Faith in Martins' undoubted quality was rewarded in that Senegal game. But he still went four games without a goal.
Is that undesirable?? or desirable??
We both know according to your logic... it is not desirable.
So give Nacho a break. He have had just Two competitive games as the CF/No.9/Top striker.....
Besides, he is still the best for that role right now. He can play the SS and AM roles but right now, we have the AM covered with Mikel there and need our best finisher up top... this is where Nacho trumps all others.
Martins of today has big experience... but truth is... he is way past his prime.
Is he needed in the team? Maybe... but not as our top striking option.
I remember when Emenike was injured after the Afcon and Nigeria went to the Confed Cup without him.... it was Martins that was invited to take Emenike's place for the World cup qualifiers against Kenya in Nigeria.
This was weeks after the 2013 Confed cup. You remember that game? Or was it before the Confed cup? I am not sure for now... but I know it was after the Afcon glory and Emenike was injured.
Martins was a shadow of himself... and went lost in that game.
The game ended 1-1... Kenya scored first thru a wonderful freekick before we grabbed a late equaliser.
Keshi found it hard calling back Martins.
Oliseh called up Martins... and Did martins deliver? Nope. Same match saw Nacho's debut as a sub. It was against Swaziland. Martins was also subbed in.
Martins went blank in recent games for Nigeria. And you think he will suddenly come back and rip the Camerounian net to shreds??
Think again Sir Forgiveness.
Iheanacho is ahead of Martins right now... way way ahead.
#Fact... over and out. It is very desirable to reward a player who scored 8 goals in 6 matches in the qualifiers as a CF prior to a major tournament. Martins records as CF was desirable before the competition. Single handedly scored solo, acrobatic and header goals which are the features of a CF. Is Iheanacho doing the same as a CF? I remember Martins wasn't invited for some of those matches we lost during qualifiers which generated criticism by the Nigerian fans to draft him back to the team and restore him back as a CF. What happened? He delivered wella... How many Nigerian fan is calling for the head of the coach to play Iheanacho as the CF? The selective selection cost us the 2006 FIFA world cup. Same thing we are witnessing every day in the National team. I told you Martins just came back from long holiday from active Football due to injury. He didn't play active football for almost a month or two thereabout yet he was restored to the first team as a CF. It was very glaring that Martins wasn't fit for that tournament. Please, go do your research. This is totally a different scenario from what is currently happening. Besides, how can you say he is way past his prime when he's still banging in goals left right and center? We know Keshi never wanted Martins in the team in the first place. He gave him one or two chances after which he kicked him out of the team. Going by your logic that Martins was a shadow of himself and got lost in just one match against Kenya, are you not suppose to suggest that Rohr should find it hard to invite Iheanacho to National team since he was not only lost in one match but was again and again lost and a shadow of himself in the 2nd most important match as a CF? Think am na? You said Iheanacho was one of the single reason Nigeria won the match against Algeria but you hid the truth to have told us that Martins was also ver influential in the match against Swaziland when came in the 75th minute of the match to influence the second goal. Na wa ooooooo! Why is different parameters used when analyzing them? In the second leg match against Swaziland Martins came in the 75th minute for Mikel Obi, this time around, it was not as a CF. He was played as a CMF. That was when I knew Oliseh no bi am. You see how you are doing the same thing you accused me of? Half baked truth. Abi how you take talk am self? |

Ha. This is frustrating. So because Rohr did not call Ajagun, it means Ajagun is not good enough to play attack midfield. Around this time last year, I remember you are one of those who questioned and mocked this lad when he was declared surplus to requirement. You asked "if he is good enough why did they loan him out". But now, you are singing a new song as soon the same faith awaits Nacho. Should I start asking the same question for me to know how you all will respond? |

CSL : Ighalo , Ideye Fire Blanks As Changchun Draw At Chongqing , Tianjin Teda Lose At Home By James Agberebi
Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo featured for Changchun Yatai, but did not score as they held Chongqing Lifan to a 1-1 away draw in the Chinese Super League on Saturday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Ighalo played 90 minutes for Changchun Yatai.
Zhenyu Du gave Changchun Yatai the lead in the 56th minute but Huan Liu equalised for Chongqing Lifan with 20 minutes left.
The game was Ighalo's 12th in the league this season, and has scored two goals.
The draw means Changchun Yatai are 11th on 13 points in the league table.
In another CSL game played on Saturday, Brown Ideye made a 90 minutes appearance for Tianjin Teda who lost 2-1 at home to Guangzhou R and F FC.
Tianjin Teda took the lead in the 26th minute through Yuanyi Li before Eran Zahavi made it 1-1 on 39 minutes.
And in the 75th minute, Renatinho scored the winner to give Guangzhou and R and F the win.
Ideye has made 13 appearances for Tianjin Teda this campaign with four goals.
Tianjin Teda are now 13th on 13 points on the log.
Source: http://www.completesportsnigeria.com/csl-ighalo-ideye-fire-blanks-changchun-draw-chongqing-tianjin-teda-lose-home/ Martins has scored 5 goals out of 8 matches this season. TheSuperNerd: Undesirable?? 3goals in 5games as a no.9/CF undesirable? Of which two games are competitive? And Nacho is credited with being one of the reasons Algeria fell in Uyo that day?? No goals against Algeria but we saw what his intelligent off the ball movements did to their defence. The coach of the Algerian team pointed it out... but you guys just refuse to see it. But you hang on to what Baxter says because Nigeria lost to SA.
And when I give you stats of what he does in the world's toughest league... isn't that supposed to tell you something?
Look.... you are looking at the wrong Angle brother.
See Sir Forgiveness... I know you are not flowing well with Chief Icon4s right now but I plead with you to go read his quote to Sir Mickael2 on this same page.
I don't wanna keep repeating myself. Our problem against South Africa was the midfield. We need our most assured finisher in that game against Cameroun home and away.
The Obafemi Martin you keep mentioning... lemme tell you something you may not know about him but which I know.
At Intermilan in 2004/2005, I think, Martins was reputed as The deadliest in Europe in terms of goals per mins ratio. In fact, his goals ratio trumped that of the legendary Super goal scorer of Ac Milan back then, Andriy Shevchenko... I was only 12 in 2004 but from my head I recall reading a magazine that broke this down about Obagoal.
Now leading up to the Nations cup, Martins was scoring in somw games but will go lost in other games. He was still out best finisher and striker. So we had to stick to him.
At Nations cup 2006, when Martins kept struggling for goals for Nigeria at The Afcon, we still stuck to him. Against Ghana and Zimbabwe he didn't deliver and it was not entirely his fault. It was even a Mikel and Obodo who came to the rescue against Zimbabwe and a Taiye Taiwo who won us the Ghana game.
Martins, One of Europe's deadliest finishers was yet to get a goal.
But against Senegal... he finally delivered two goals all Orchestrated by the magic of a young rising Midfield general called John Mikel Obi.
That game against Senegal was super tight but his finishing made Mikel's first Afcon start for Nigeria look so super glorious.
Martins struggled in games where we played the very gifted Oruma and we did create couple of chances and martins also flunked many... but when Mikel came in, martins shone.
He proved his quality.
Against Tunisia, same story of no goals again. Against CIV, even with Okocha... still no goal.
Now tell me... judging by your logic of "undesirable"... was Martins' stats undesirable for that period or not?? Fact is it was definitely not desirable for a no.9
But fact remained that He was our best Striker/point man and no.9. Our best bet of finishing. He was even rated then ahead of Aghahowa.
Now three years later in 2009, We needed Martins' super finishing in the box to help us secure World Cup qualification for SA 2010.
You just don't cast away your most assured finishers for any given period... they are your best bet of winning some really tight games
My point? As Martins was to us back then... so is Iheanacho to the team now. Our most lethal finisher and best CF option. You just cannot look past him.
And that is why an older Martins cannot even be considered over Nacho right now.... just like how It was martins over a once-undroppable Aghahowa (unless we were playing two up-top). My reservation about Iheanacho playing as a CF for Super Eagles was not formed as a result of the loss against SA. It was after the match against Algeria I saw it all and other matches further strengthened it. Well, I will not stretch the argument further. Rather leave it to the coach to use his brain. EOD A player who scored 3 goals at a stretch in 3 matches as a SS but suddenly struggles as soon as he was deployed to the CF. He needs to examine his head else he will be fired. The same scenario Martins Obafemi faced in Newcastle when he was deployed to an unfamiliar role on the wings. Wetin happen? Before then he banged in goals left right and center despite limited game time. @bolded needs some clarification.. "will go lost in other games" In how many games was he lost out of the 10 matches played during the FIFA world cup qualifiers? In the first match against Rwanda, Martins scored 2 goals. In the second match against Angola, he was not in the team. In the third match against Algeria, he was in the team but didn't score due to the obvious reason that the Algerians came for a draw. I still remembered how Yobo scored in the late minutes of the game through header. In the 4th match against Zimbabwe, he was not in the team. In the 5th match against Gabon, he was not in the team. In the 6th match against Gabon, he didn't score. In the 7th match against Rwanda, he scored a goal. In the 8th match against Angola, he was not in the team. In the 9th match against Zimbabwe, he scored 3 goals. In the 10th match against Algeria, he scored 2 goals. Where did you get "lost in other games" as if he played all the matches? Is this performance desirable or not? You can't compare Martins' statistics with Iheanacho, he no match. Martins ratio is far better. Don't compare. Prior to the 2006 Africa Nations cup, are you not aware Martins just came back after few days or months out of Football due to injury? Apart from that, it's all about the attributes you can find in a CF which I suppose Iheanacho is lacking. D person wey call himself icon of Nigerian football no go come here come give historical lectures about wetin really happened from wetin you just write because it will not blow blow em ego. Very predictable fellow. He only gives history lectures to suit himself and ego. I dey here to dey counter ya lies. Anyway, I think Martins Obafemi is still needed in the team. He has scored 6 goals in 8 matches in Chinko land this season despite the fact that he had scored double digits two previous seasons. |

Guardiola dropping Bony from his team does not mean Bony can not play as a striker. So does Guardiola opting for another player ahead of Iheanacho does not mean Iheanacho can not play as a nine. Logic.
Earlier in the season when Aguero got suspended for elbowing a player, Guardiola opted for Iheanacho to play nine and the young man did well. Does that mean Iheanacho could play nine then?

TheGoodJoe: Answer which question? It filled with ridiculous assumptions like the ridiculous posts you made without reading or reasoning it out. I can not continue answering basic questions that a simple wearing of your thinking cap will answer.
If Guardiola has the best striker, why did he buy Gabriel Jesus? I mean, you want me to answer that even after earlier stating that Guardiola had Aguero and still but Gabriel.
You want me to answer why he did not play Iheanacho when Aguero injured when at that time we were under pressure due to a string of poor results and was rapidly changing strategy.
Or that we do not know what happened in the back room that suggested using the likes of De Bruyne and Nolito upfront.
The answer is simple.
Can Iheanacho play as a quality striker? The answer is a clear yes.
Nacho secured a contract with City playing as a striker during the preseason game and came out as one of the best players for City.
He broke into the City team playing as a striker for the Junior team.
Nacho was on loan and we got good reports from America when he scored four goals during a scrimmage game. Playing as a striker.
He made good records at City under Pellegrini playing as a striker.
This season, Nacho had some good games under Guardiola playing as a striker.
This explains Nacho can play as a striker. Finito. Storrrryyy! Answer those questions first. Thank u. @bolded you mean, for Guardiola to get good result, he needed to consider the third striker and an ATM ahead of the best striker in the EPL in the person of Nacho? |

So many Analysts and top sites have always acknowledged Iheanacho's impact as a no.9 even though some others state his most effective roles as an SS and an AM.
Telegraph UK in their comment on Iheanacho in their Prestigious best 50 U-21 players in the world today said this:
"Has had his first team time reduced under Pep Guardiola's management but Iheanacho is one of the best young strikers around. Has scored six goals in nine games for Nigeria and could well move out on loan this summer to play more football.
So many more top coaches, sites and analysts and pundits/Journos also acknowledge Nacho's impact as a no.9 even though I admit he is far more dangerous and far more influential as a no.10 and a no.8.
I am saying.... get your analysis right and make it very balanced.
You cannot term the deadliest no.9 and striker in the EPL since august 2015 not good enough or useless as a striker.
And you also cannot term the striker with the best Goals per mins ratio in EPL history for 10+ goals and more at a point before season's end "not good enough".
No need showing you the views of many others who acknowledge Nacho as a good no 9.
In a nutshell, Iheanacho is good enough as a no.9 and has shown it overtime. One or two bad games cannot diminish that fact.
He is good enough as a no.9 but just better and more influential as a no.10 (AM) and no.8 (SS).
Also.... your comment on the national team being a cult is a strong comment to make. Without proof, it is a baseless comment to make. Period. Who is shouting upandan "Nacho is useless as a CF"? I said Nacho is not good enough for the CF position... in the National team (in addition). Chikena. From the quote, how many goals did Nacho score since he started playing as a CF for the Super Eagles? |

TheGoodJoe:
I do not get what you guys are talking.
Nacho is a forward that can play multiple roles and you select the best player for each role. At the moment, the striking position is key and Iheanacho is our best finisher. He should stay there because when we create loads, we need our best finishing.
One of the articles posted is from a coach talking of Iheanacho before the U17 World cup. Typical forgiveness posting not well thought out posts. You want us to take the decision of an amateur coach over highly paid professionals like Pellegrini and Vieira who played Nacho as a nine.
All the name Nacho has made so far in club football came as him playing as a striker. Forget the whole Guardiola talk in reference of Nacho's club football because he was doing it before Guardiola. @bolded 1, which of the article is before U17 World cup? @bolded 2, is Pelegrin better than Guardiola(though I don't trust him)? |

komekn: Sentimental he is, aren't we all and yes sometimes can get overly exuberant.
But I do not necessarily dismiss what he says or do not take him seriously and I yes I don't always agree with him.
The word cult I want to presume doesn't have satanic undertones in the context he uses it. Rather referring to the NFF favouritism and preferences that lack objectivity. I don't think any reasonable Nigerian needs further explanation to be informed about the activities going in every areas of life in this country. Enough said. |

komekn: I could name a few but you probably will not know them but they are football analysts for EPL clubs not on big money but behind the scenes going through hours of video footage of individual players to objectively assess thier competencies, strengths and weaknesses.
Furthermore they wouldn't take kindly to being quoted online. Good to know. |

daveP: Martins would destroy the Cmr defence. but.... mistake of Rohr is not having an experienced striker during that match like the way Germany does for Klose even if he plays with 10 boys.. Abeg, help me tell dem. We need players in form and playing regularly in that position. |

Mickael2: the answer to the hold part of your text should be that he is just not good enough as a striker. you will see now that even theGoodJoe who practically marvels at whatever Guardiola does will come out to argue now That's all. No be only me talk am. Is it difficult for some people to comprehend that Nacho is more of a SS and Atm than a CF(lone one for that matter)? |

TheSuperNerd: Are you people minding Forgiveness?
He analyses football with a three-layered blindfold when it comes to Players like Iheanacho.
He keeps making a case for Solanke and Ajagun and we know why.
His analysis reeks of pure hate for certain players and blind love for others.... he will cook up any statement to spill nonsense to castigate our fine young footballers.
This was how he called me a liar for saying Iheanacho dusted Solanke in the 2015/16 season when both were given playing time (with Iheanacho have far lesser time and starts compared to Solanke) and I dropped the stats and burst his bubble.
Now he is here typing more trash...
Guys and ladies.... In my own analyses, I have clamored for Ajagun to be given a chance and also Aluko. I have also said I think Solanke can add something to our team if we can get him... but I will never run a player down with so much painful hate in the name of objectivity.
Bia Forgiveness.... this is why people hardly take you serious here. You really have to calm down and analyse soccer like a gentleman and not throwing careless comments like "I have no doubt that the national team is a cult".... who told you?? Where is thy proof?
Freedom of expression does not mean you come and spill lies and comments devoid of intelligent analysis biko. Plsss check yourself. Thank You. Hahahahahah! TheSuperNerd don vex. Which players do I hate? "he keeps making case for Solanke and Ajagun and we know why" kindly, please tell me why? How am I running down a player? Who is/are those players? Iheanacho? Bia! My stance remains that Iheanacho is not a CF and many analyst has agreed to that obvious fact. The boy is good as a SS or ATM. Is that that what you term running Iheanacho down ( I suppose he is the one you are referring to)? Is it too difficult to see? Did you see me mention Iheanacho should not be called to the national team or he is not good enough as a player? Guy!! You have misunderstood and misinterpreted the whole argument to hate. Maka why, biko? Why wake up the..... Na wa ooooooo. |
