And who is disputing he is not a 'Legend'? What we are saying is Rashidi Yekini is more legendary than Kanu Nwankwo when it comes to Nigerian football. Simple! |

That singular act by the FIFA and the Olympic Committee which made Olympic soccer event an underage tourney downgraded that event. That's the Gospel truth Thank you for speaking the obvious truth. Na tata competition like under 20 and Europe U21, nothing more. |

Uche Okechukwu,Taribo West,Okocha,V.Ipkeba,Amuneke,Amokachi,Sunday Oliseh etc. All these great players are Tatas in ur mind, like I said,u r the only one alive who would make comments like this against Kanu, but wait, did u actually typed this ''TELL ME WHAT GLORY KANU NWAKWOR BROUGHT TO NIGERIA'' we r talking 'bout King Kanu not Kalu. I'm pretty sure Messi is not one of ur top 3 greatest players of all time. Olympics football game remains an underage competition regardless of who participated. It is for U23 Tatas. It is' NOT A FIFA RECOGNISED COMPETITION'. sorry. Or is it? Now, tell me what glory Kanu Nwankwo brought to Nigerian National team Football. Did Kanu Nwankwo help Nigeria to qualify for the FIFA World Cup? Did Kanu Nwankwo help Nigeria to win a AFCON? Did Kanu Nwankwo win AFCON best player of the tournament? We are not talking about winning laurels as a substitute player but as a influential player. Sorry. |

Napoleon55: Rashidi ahead of Kanu,r u really saying this 4 d second time, ahead of someone with two world trophies on his cabinet,2 APOTY awards, attained the highest level of club football glory, where is Yekini's CL trophy, where is Yekini in world football to Kanu's 6th position in 1996. he was there in our greatest football conquest till date. Atlanta '96 Olympic gold is still our greatest moment in football history irrespective of what u may think.
Kanu's achievements dwarf that of Yekini's not taking anything away from Yekini,he merits his legendary status in our football folklore but compared to that of Kanu's,no one argues that but u. In fact,I have never witnessed any argument on who is greater between Kanu and Yekini. So drop this kind,it's getting 2much of u. Which two World trophies? Do you mean under 17 world Cup for the Ta-Ta? Did Ronaldo de lima win CL?, did Pele win CL?, did Maradona win CL?.did Roberto Bergio win CL?, did Lothar Matthaus win CL?, etc but these are all Legends for their respective countries. Because you don't know about Nigerian football club history doesn't mean some are ignorant. Maybe indomie needless generation does not know. Rashidi Yekini has brought glory to Nigeria not Arsenal or Ajax. Besides, Finidi George was far better and more important than Kanu Nwankwo in that competition and even won AFCON. He started in all the Ajax games except one. Is Finidi not better than him? What impact did Kanu Nwankwo bring to that team? Pele never won any FIFA individual awards too but he is still a Legend for Brazil. Olympics is an under age competition meant for TA-TAS and it is not a FIFA recognised competition. Sorry. Tell me what glory Kanu Nwankwo brought to Nigerian football at the highest level. Thanks |

Napoleon55: This ur list is even worse than the Clefstone list. It's now confirmed,ur comments] r just for fun.
Victor Ikpeba and Rashidi ahead of Kanu,on what level? We r not talking 'bout d greatest goal scorers.
In terms of football achievements,
1-Kanu 2-Mikel
In terms influence and recognition,
1-Kanu 2-Okocha 3-Mikel Well, I did not arrange them according to the greatest but if I should do Rashidi Yekini go still be no one not Kanu. Now let me arrange it accordingly. 1, Rashidi Yekini: In Africa nations cup, he won 1 trophy, 3 times runner up, 1 third place, Twice highest goal scorer of African cup of Nations(1992 & 1994), 2nd highest goal scorer in 1990 AFCON, Nominated twice for AFCON best player of the tournament but he won only once1992 & 1994), 2 times CAF team of the tournament (1990 & 1994), Nominated 3 times for African player of the year which he won once(to become the first Nigerian to win it), came second and third, highest goal scorer prior to 1994 World Cup, first Nigerian to score in a World Cup, Nigeria highest goal scorer of all time. Club achievements He was the highest goal scorer in the Nigerian Premier league in the 80's( when Nigerian league was hot), he won the Nigerian Premier league in 1983 with 3SC, he took 3SC to the Finals of African Champions cup for the first time in Nigeria Football club history(this was massive in the eyes of patriotic Nigerians), Won 2 FA Cups with Abiola babes in 1985 and 1987. , He helped African Sport to win Treble in 1989( his name is written in Ivorian folklore), highest goal scorer in LIGRAPRO(Segunda-division) with 34 goals in 32 matches, highest goal scorer in Portuguese Premier Liga, Won Bola de Prata etc Note: Nigerian Premier league was hot when he achieved these. And because of that Rashidi Yekini was invited to the National team in 1982. This is obviously number one. Who can match this? Kanu Nwankwo? Okocha? Mikel (my man)? Sorry |

That is a frankfurt fan blog..
OKocha is considered one of their greatest players.
Comments:
1. I would consider Yeboah aswell as Okocha as the best players. Can't forget Hengemühle though
2. I think Jürgen Grabowski was the best.
But Bernd Hölzenbein, Uwe Bein and of course Yeboah and Okocha were great players.
3. hard to say. the best known are grabowski and hoelzenbein (in the 70's and early 80's) and moeller, bein, okocha and yeboah in the early 90's.
and of course, hengemuehle must be mentioned (is he injured again?) Comments are not facts. I need substantial evidence to back your claims. |

Thanks guys for all the birthday wishes.
So many arguments flying.
But let me dwell on the Mikel's case. I know a lot of u guys expected so much from Mikel. More so that he was 2nd best player just behind Messi at the WYC. U should even ask urself "where is Taye Taiwo that came third".
You feel Mikel should probably be 1 step behind the likes of Messi, Ronaldo or Neymer right? But football is not like that.
I can categorically say it here that only 2 Nigerian players are regarded greater than Mikel in terms of status, recongnition, contribution to club and national teams and club and national team achievements. They are Nwankwo Kanu and JJ Okocha.
Mikel to me is the 3 greatest. Vincent Enyeama and Rashidi Yekini come next in that order.Peter Rufai follows. @bolded needs some clarification. Jj Okocha. very funny. Nwankwo Kanu and Jj Okocha can never be in the top 3 best players. Record no dey lie. |

Let me say it again before you talk Super Eagles.
Ola Aina rejected the Nigerian Olympics team. Nigeria does not need that kind of player.
Tiago Ilori said he likes to stay Loyal to Portugal. Nigeria needs players that want to stay loyal to Nigeria. Even as Iwobi and Iheanacho rejected and betrayed the Olympics team coaches. We don't need those kind of unpatriotic players. We need players that will be always loyal to Nigeria, come rain, come sunshine. Yeeees! |
