maslong: In my opinion, even though this is a headwind for the market, I think the market has already priced some of this into stock prices with the sell off we saw a couple of weeks ago. We might still see some declines as a result of this but I do not think it will be as drastic as what we saw earlier this month. 1 Like |

feelamong: It seems to me that the market has already priced in the headwinds in regards to what the outcome of the MPC meeting will be into most stock prices. I expect the outcome of the Opec meetings on Thursday to be a major driver in deciding how investors will strategize going forward in our markets. |

2cato: I have a dream that I will open a bakery soon. I will use only flour from Flourmills and sugar from Dangote Sugar to bake my bread. I will insure my bakery with custodian and allied insurance and make sure that I use only First Bank(FBNH) for all my transactions. 5 Likes |

Chibuking81: This is beginning to sound like a broken record. Are you saying that someone that bought FBNH @ N9 at this time is making the greatest mistake in their life especially if they have a time horizon of 12 months and above? Well I don't think so. For you to believe what the newspapers say hook, line and sinker, I can assure you that some of your analysis/assumptions are flawed. 3 Likes |

Emotion flying up and down. The market goes up and down in cycles just like any other rhythm in life therefore it is not uncommon to see a couple of bullish days within a bearish period and a couple of bearish days within a bullish period. In all these scenarios, there are always opportunities Either on the sell or buy side. If you do not know who you are, the stock market is an expensive place to find out. 3 Likes |

Kieldgreat: Spot on. I have always thought about this even though I was never sure of what level of influence the members of these sites can have on the NSE. One thing is sure, a good percentage of knowledgeable investors are linked to this thread on NL and also SMN. I believe as awareness in the stock market grows, new entrants within the age range of 20 - 35 years will stumble upon these sites as they search the internet in an attempt to seek investment information on the NSE. Also with the ubiquitous use of smart phones and the introduction of online trading, I see an influx of younger investors into these sites in some years to come. Social media will also play a good part in drawing in these set of investors into these sites. |

joseph1013: It seems to me that some investors have not come to terms with the fact that the market experiences bubbles and busts and that if prices have risen up to a particular extent, some correction will take place at some point . This is just the way the market works,it goes up and then down and then up again. We should be careful not to treat the bearish market like a curse cos it is not. For the right thinking investor, this is the best time to strategize how to position for the next phase in the market. If you are cash trapped cos you did not bail out on time, all hopes are not lost, you will need to come up with strategic ways to salvage the situation. If you have cash cos you bailed out on time, this is also the time to come up with strategic ways to best deploy that cash. Bearish periods to me are one of the greatest learning seasons in the market. Whether you are in favour of the Bearish or Bullish period, it really might not matter much cos your strategy on how to handle both phases at the end of the day is what makes you a successful investor. 8 Likes |

Chibuking81: Oga Chibuking how did you come to the conclusion that no stock is good to buy. If you check the valuation of some mid cap stocks, you will see that their prices are gradually getting attractive, any further decline will only make them more attractive and make them strong candidates of an over 10% dividend yield. Some stocks were affected by the Bears more than others and some stocks have been in a bearish mood for quite a while now even when the market was still oscillating previously. Personally I expected the market to fall but I never envisaged that it will fall this much in one week and I doubt you expected it to fall this much. At the end of the day no one can predict the market with sure certainty. As I look through the happenings this week, Oga Dexterex's rule of flexibility and adaptivity in regards to the present market phase seems to come to mind as I strategize for my next move in the market. 3 Likes |

Chibuking81: Oga sir. Please let's not over-flog this matter. It is obvious you were right but putting it in people's faces might not be the best thing to do at this time, especially when we have some people here that might want to bail out now but are unable to. I really like what oga born2berich did by reaching out to mercilious in an attempt to help her offload her transcorp, after all we are brothers and sisters in the lord or are we not? 11 Likes |

Yem0350: The more you look the less you see in this market. Periods like this are the greatest learning phase in my journey in the investment world. When people quote prices and you will be like its not possible and you see these stocks gradually getting to those prices, you realise that the greatest disservice any investor can do to themselves is been emotional to a stock, trying to go against the market trend amongst others. As my ogas here will say, hope is not a strategy. Now I see why people commit suicide after their net worth has been wiped out in the stock market. As I reminiscence about the 2008 crash and the happenings within the last 6 years, the saying that comes to my mind is - if you do not know who you are, the stock market is an expensive place to find out. As we all brace ourselves for the next phase in this market, I wish everyone the best in whatever strategy they have adopted. TGIF. 6 Likes |

UkwuAmu: Well said sir. As Oga Dexterex will say the oil markets will never remain the same again. We are in a buyers market for crude oil which does not favour Nigeria as a producer but we have to understand that some other economies like India and China will benefit from this glut. The U.S. is pumping oil out faster than they have ever done. Saudi Arabia is fighting to retain market share and I dnt see them cutting oil production. Everybody wants to continue to produce more oil and also want to keep prices up, how this is impossible I don't know as demand and supply mechanics will definitely come into play here. The only world economy that would have been able to keep oil prices stable with its oil demand is the US, as they are the only ones that are a bit upbeat(even though they are just recovering too) however their demand has reduced drastically cos of its own production of shale oil. The euroZone, China,India as well as other emerging market economies are all experiencing stunted growth. So there is no big economy out there to really soak up this excess oil in the market. relating all this to the Nigerian economy makes me a bit weary. I can only wish NOI and the CBN the best but things dnt look good in the near term. Unfortunately, there can't really do much to salvage the situation as panic has started. I can't really tell what the outcome of all this will be but one thing I know is that I will rather watch with my money from the sidelines. Wetin I know sef make I dey dance to Bobby Shmurda dey go... 1 Like |
