myjoy08: Great!!! This should intensify the sell off in the parallel market and bring down the price of $$. The banks are indirectly telling us that Naira is gradually becoming king. Sai Buhari!!!! Appreciating Naira, declining NSE.A match made in heaven for the astute investor. 5 Likes |

Aloaye: In the city of the blind, the one-eyed man is king. The result is not too bad sha, a 48% increase in loan loss expense is not that terrible considering what other banks have put out already. A 14% decrease in PBT is still a bit manageable. In my opinion, not a bad buy around the N2.50 range. 1 Like |

stockbull: Well said Stockbull. I always laugh when people try to defend the CBN Governor when he keeps saying the Naira is appropriately priced. The man is doing his job by telling Nigerians what they want to hear. It's sad that we dnt have a definite plan on how to bring out the country from this present economic inertia. In as much as I do not like this so called devaluation, it's one of those bullets we have to painfully bite. Nigeria seems to be gradually slipping into the stagflation zone and I just hope we dnt get there. Crude oil just broke its $50 support last week for the first time since April. The much talked about interest rate hike in the US might happen this September. Iran is about to open its taps and flood the already oversupplied crude oil markets with more oil despite the over 30 million barrels it has in tankers in the high seas that it is trying to dispose. I dnt see any respite for the Naira in the short term. Well i wish the CBN governor good luck with trying to continue to defend. |

myjoy08: Anyone that believes what the CBN is saying can virtually believe anything. What do we expect him to say, of course they have to make Nigerians believe that they are doing their work. I dnt know how long we can continue to prop up a currency that is a product of an economy that is structurally weak. The spread between the official market and the parallel market is over 20% (a perfect environment for round tripping) and we are still trying to prop up the Naira, using our already scarce foreign reserves. This defense of the currency by the CBN looks more like an Ego trip than any clear-cut policy. In as much as I do not support devaluation because it has not really helped the nation in the past and I do not see any advantages for its implementation at this time, our economy is stuck between a rock and a hard place and sometimes somethings have to give for other things to fall in place. The CBN is living in illusion if they think all is alright. If Emeifiele knows he is sure of what he is doing/saying let's just float the currency and let the markets(demand/supply) dictate what the real value should be. 2 Likes |

Agbalowomeri: Hahahaha but Oga Na true you talk oo. I am Yet to see anything that will give the market a breather in the short term. Just saw transcorp and NB's result and both recorded declines in PAT and their EPS. I dnt expect any fantastic result from most FCMG companies. We are gradually heading into stagflation, inflation on the rise, we will soon hit double digits. Unemployment rate on the rise, misery index is high. Exchange rate cotinues its volatility, crude oil price volatility heightened. To top it all, the economic activities inertia that the country is currently facing is not helping matters. Honestly as a nation, we are stuck between a hard place and a rock. The stock market been a leading indicator is just a reflection of all these uncertainties. |

I just love this market cos it does what it wants to do at its own time. Now that the market is doing sales (buy one get one free)some people will not buy, later we will start seeing all kinds of prayer request for prices to fall. If you have been praying for prices to fall, this is your opportunity to buy everything . In other news, U.S. Signing of the Iranian nuclear deal seems to be rattling the crude oil market. more oil glut to come, add that to reduced demand and see that crude oil price Will soon come under some pressure. Bring Naija into the equation and see that less revenue will be accrued to the govt. Add that to the government's present financial woes and see that there are more woes to come. Now relate this to the Naira and see that N250/$1 and beyond is not far fetched. My brothers and sisters, Brace up for more austerity. 1 Like |

Born2berich: Well said Oga Born2beRich; most times all the information we need from companies are inherent in their stock prices but most investors allow confirmation bias to get the best part of them. Banks stock prices are reflecting what kind of results we should expect. subpar results looks like what most banks will release to the market in the next Couple of weeks. Stanbic has showed us the trend already. The bank's Loan loss expense increased by 449.3% YoY to N7.9 billion from N1.4 billion in H1 2014 thus resulting in a 40% decline in its PAT. Anyone expecting any fantastic results from the banks will have some rude awakening. N/B: I have FCMB in my portfolio and I have no intention to sell. Will buy more at N2. If zenith bank meets me at the N17 junction, I will buy too. 1 Like |

myjoy08: Someone needs to wake the CBN and Emeifiele from their slumber. This emotional attachment to our exchange rate has to reduce unless we might find it hard to progress economically as a nation. We need to adjust with the realities on ground. The true value of the Naira is what is obtainable in the parallel market and not the manipulated interbank/official market. Well Na siddon look I dey, dey watch Wetin go happen. **back to the sidelines** |

mercylicious: Hmmm. Very interesting. In as much as I do not want to credit/discredit any form of investment(real estate or stocks). I want to believe that both investment vehicles have different weightings in regards to how it affects your investment portfolio in the grand scheme of things. A wise Egbon told me something a while back and it goes thus; "In the Nigerian justice system, if someone is convicted and been asked to bring a surety, the judge requests for a surety that has landed properties and not shares". This really got me thinking and even though I never really gave a lot of thoughts to real estate investments because of some of the disadvantages associated with it, I have started working on adding it to my investment portfolio. passwelle: Would be glad if this is pushed down below N1. Another company am keeping my eyes on this year. The pension arm seems to be growing stronger by the day. Their balance sheet looks cleaned out after all the provisioning done last year. They also seem to be getting things right considering their great market share in the insurance space(life insurance). I won't be surprised if their share price starts to inch up in the next couple of months towards Mansard's price. After all, aiico is amongst the top four insurance companies (market share wise)but it's share price still lags that of mansard and custodian. 2 Likes |
