For those who are interested, some short rally are coming very soon between now and 2nd week of December. Do your due diligence on some stocks and don't get your hand burnt. There are many money to be made within that short-medium term. No need to be haters, just work on your own part as i have done mine in given out the information.

WHY IS SKYE BANK REACTING DOWNWARDS ON D EVE OF WINNING A BID,IT. OUGHT TO RISE NOW N2.5 IS A SHAME THEY SHOULD PAY FOR THIS BID AND IMPROVE THEIR OUTLOOK! INFACT SPEECHLESS!

One of the hardest things to do is to admit you made an investment mistake and own it. I made a mistake accumulating this stock.I realised that paying for the acquisition of mainstreet bank is going to be a long stretch for the bank coupled with the new CBN's policy on dividend payout which might result in the bank's inability to pay out a reasonable amount, I envisaged that I might be locked in longer than expected. I dropped off the bus with minimal losses. In this game; you win some, you lose some. In all, I live to fight another day.

The EPS is 99kobo, Proshare was generous to give them 102kobo. In a bid to make the result attractive, they annualised the EPS. Even at that, the annualised EPS due to the owners should be 1.33 and not the reported 1.43.

This mean..........by next week we may see some better bargains to do Vivo.Devaluation of naira is a threat to foreign porfolio investors cos if they exchanged at #163/164 to a dollar and if suddenly naira turns #168 that is currency loss of #4 for some fpi and that's why they are very concerned about currency stability.

Judging from the Comments made by key persons at CBN, I do not think they favour the devaluation of the naira.I want to believe that they will continue to defend the naira for as long as they can with the reserves. I think they will nip the decline in the bud from the interest rate side of things by increasing it by a few basis points to keep the $$ in the system. The might also increase CRR for private sector funds. All this might just hold fort in the interim till after elections.

Hmm thats what i thought oo with his speech on his 10 point agenda in regards to a gradual reduction in interest rates(even though from his speech this will start from next year). Well I am watching to see how this goes. I am still underweight in that sector for the time being but like the shark i am i will buy into my selected few stocks once it gets to my reduced price target.

B-R-E-A-K-I-N-G:New CBN rule says banks can no longer pay dividends if they don't meet capital adequacy ratio

All of this regulation (which is becoming excessive) continues to decrease my appetite for banking stocks in the medium term (6 months to 1 year). Will look very closely before i jump into any in the near term.

Disclosure: I own some units of FBNH though.

N1.20k will be more like it now.. cheesy

Getting UBACAP at this price will be a heck of a xmas gift for me even though I believe that the market seems to have priced it right around N2.We should be looking at a FEPS of 37kobo and PE ratio of about 5. Also they should be able to pay about 18kobo to 20kobo dividend which puts the dividend yield at about 9% to 10% (does not seem like a bad ROI)grin grin grin grin. Any price below N1.80 will start looking attractive to me. oo boi, I love the bears.... cool cool cool

So they came to the market and took more funds from us, increased their OS and then not increase their earnings in proportional terms and its ok?

Oga feelamong,me thinks this company is not doing badly.A 33% increase in PAT YoY seems okay to me. We would have had a Q3 EPS of 79kobo if not for the OS dilution from their previous rights issue.Their retained earnings also looks robust. Should they decide to pay us like 30kobo dividend, which is about N600milion in total dividends, they should be just fine. I was able to buy some when the price came down to N3.05 last week,i will be looking to increase my holdings in due time hopefully below the N3 mark.

Generally, I would expect price to settle above N7 before the listing and stay there after the listing.

I will be highly surprised if diamond goes above N7 before and after the listing of their rights, but again this is the market and anything is possible.

Many of you guys won't understand what is @ stake, i'm very exposed to bank stocks after i pulled out of Oando and based on average gain of 5% today on the stocks in my portfolio, i just need n average gain of 3% to break even.

NB:I'm talking from my own perspective. I posted that line cos i've been in that shoe b4 - selling @ a loss only for the market to make U-turn the next day.

Oga Aks, I understand how these things could be . I have sold at a loss too only for the stock to make a U-turn the next day,one thing i use to console myself is that there are other opportunities out there which someone can always take advantage of.

In as much as i want the market to be bullish, the current happenings in the macro-economy and political space says otherwise. I have a few banks too but i decided a while back to sell down some of them as i believe i can buy them cheaper in the next couple of months. I used part of the proceeds to add some more FBNH last week to my portfolio.

Today was an opportunity for me to convert some more of my holdings into cash which i plan to use to buy more stocks in the coming months if prices get depressed otherwise i move it into my real estate portfolio.

better sale them now, because it will reduce to a very low level, I lost millions of naira during 2008 crash, I bought TRANSCORP IPO at #7.50 it fall to 50 kobo, my oceanic, intercontinental, UBA, FIRST BANK rose above #40 some #50 per a unit, but all fall to below #10. Time came during that period I decided to sale, but some confused analyst keep on giving fake positive hope that kill many, I still stand ground with the look of thing, that the stocks fall are in their season one, and will reach season eight, better sale now.

What was the valuation of these companies during 2007/2008 in regards to their prices compared to what we have now? I see people comparing what is happening in the market now to what happened in 2007/2008 but to me they are completely different. we all lost money during that era and for me my loss was exaggerated because i was a newbie, now i know better. This present market phase might be a bit disadvantageous to short term traders but for the long term investor with trained eyes who is more interested in dividends, there are certainly some bargains out there.

Food for thought:

"You don’t need to be an expert in order to achieve satisfactory investment returns... Focus on the future productivity of the asset you are considering.. If you instead focus on the prospective price change of a contemplated purchase, you are speculating.. Games are won by players who focus on the playing field – not by those whose eyes are glued to the scoreboard... " - Warren Buffett

look at the scoreboard once in a while sha...lol

Once thing I have learnt over the years is to try not to take all this quotes hook, line and sinker. Warren Buffet has never invested in Nigeria and so might not know how we operate here. I do biz in both environments and one thing I have learnt to do is to drop my sanity once I get into muritala Muhammed airport and assume a different personality. It took me a while to learn this but I must say I learnt this the very hard way. For me I will look at both the playing field and scoreboard and even the referee to know when they want to blow their whistle.

Don't be to so sure!
This market as I see it has become one crazy bitch!!
With the way I am saying it, many stocks are going to go below their year lows pretty soon.
Folks should be careful of falling knives (until they are on the ground) grin

Do you think anyone can really tell when these stocks have gotten to their lowest lows? I have no doubt that the all share index will go lower, but one thing I know is that it's decline will affect all stocks differently. Some stocks will be more battered than others and some will not even be battered at all and might even gain, in all we just keep looking for fundamentally good stocks where the irrationality of the market has pushed it to down to very attractive prices and take advantage of it. As long as you are a long term investor, you need not worry so much. This present market phase does not look to me like it really favors short term trading.

You got at good prices.

But it looks like we've not seen the last of the bears. This might just be the beginning, but certainly not the end. grin

My experience in this market tells me I can never buy stocks at their lowest price, I also can never tell how low a stock will come to. My strategy is always to buy in tranches as the stocks I am interested in continues to decline. The last time I bought FBNH was during the sanusi saga and I averaged out at N12.30. If FBNH gets to N9 to N10,I will buy more and keep buying as long as i have funds and the price doesn't go northwards. same thing with afriprudential ,I am averaged out at N3.15. Will continue my buying in tranches as long as I have funds and the price doesn't go up.

Very true. Requested for some FBNH and got my order filled at N11.50,I also got some afriprudential at N3.05. Let the Bears continue to reign supreme, we will accumulate in tranches.

I see the cup as half full - this presents an opportunity to take positions in fundamentally sound stocks.

The bears is not about fundamentals, its simply market sentiment.

39000 looks very achievable before friday.

I want to believe that the present bearish season is caused by both fundamentals and sentiments, even though i see market sentiments gradually having the upper hand in this present phase of the market. The past H1 results released by most companies was not that fantastic and we saw a lot of companies reporting declining earnings.Investors and traders might just be pricing in a non-fantastic Q3 results into stock prices.
We also have a lot of headwinds for banks that will most likely result in reduced earnings as we approach their year ends.

Slowing global (europe and china)growth, declining crude oil prices, ebola scare cannot also be ruled out as some factors that might be causing general apathy in the market at this time. Having said all this, this phase of the market might just present varying opportunities for the trained eyes to take position in fundamentally good stocks. Even though I am underweight on the market, I am watching for any good opportunities that might just spring up for me to take advantage of.

At this rate, the index may hit 39000 before the end of the week..

Interesting times ahead as the index continues to decline, i expect to even see the index lower than 39,000 in the next couple of months. the declining oil prices will not even help matters as a depreciation/devaluation of the Naira seems imminent and this may accelerate the rate at which the foreign investors will be heading to the exit door at the NSE. For me and my household,i have decided to go underweight in the market however i will be looking to take opportunities as they present themselves.
