What is Keyword and Keyword Research?

I want to quickly shed light on the importance of keyword and keyword research so that you can give much thought to it when you are creating a . A keyword is a word or phrase which information seekers, surfers and online shoppers enter into search engines in order to find information about a product or service they want to buy or anything of interest.

By doing this simple exercise, you will be maximizing your account for on-page search engine optimization and priming your site for search engine traffic so that you can start ranking on the SERP for specific long tail keyword phrases which you will be targeting. Step 1:
Go to Clickbank.com, sign up as an affiliate marketer or digital marketer as they call it.
Click the marketplace link and look for affiliate products to promote. There are criteria
for selecting sellable products such as gravity score, quality of merchant’s sales page
or landing page, and so on. But choose products and services from evergreen markets
like health market.

Step 2:
Build a review blog in the broad market not niche market. You want to promote as many
related affiliate products as possible over a period of time. With adequate and right on-page
and off page search engine optimization, you will be able to make $50 a day or more on a
daily basis. Do website promote and marketing consistently through sundry places.

Step 3:
After 6 months of consistently making money with website, you can now sell it as an established
website in online marketplaces like Flippa.com. You can realize between $10,000 and $15,000
from a blog making $1,000 t0 $1,500 per month net revenue. Domain flipping and website flipping

Really insightful post. painful thing is, most people only have the willingness to start an online business but almost never get around to actually start something.

You are right on target. Willingness and ability are two different issues.
One cannot be substituted for the other.

From time to time, I see and read threads created by fellow nairalanders complaining their inability to make money online in Nigeria. You can feel their frustration especially when they say they are broke and need quick cash or source of income from the internet in order to survive.

The first reason why you are not making money online is that you are approaching it from the wrong angle. Your main goal is to make money on the internet without exchanging value for money. It will be difficult to breakthrough with this kind of mindset.

The fastest way to make money online in Nigeria or anywhere in the world is to identify a problem and create your own product or recommend an affiliate product to solve it. For example, in today’s Nigeria economy, the problem is dollar to naira palaver i.e. dollar scarcity for Nigerians to buy and do legitimate business. Few days ago, a dollar was exchanged for over N300 (three hundred naira). This is obviously a big problem. Now, if you have constant source of dollars supply that is legal and you offer it at reasonable rate, you are already in business as long as you are duly registered and eligible to do the business.

Let me give you another common example. Few days ago, I was having serious headache and I couldn’t find a pharmacy immediately. But I have to walk up to an Aboki with a kiosk and asked for paracetamol. He solved my headache problem by providing the first aid treatment I needed at the time and I paid for it. You must have this mentality when you want to start an online business in Nigeria.

You can solve problems by creating your own digital products to sell, promoting affiliate products, providing web services to other webmasters and online business owners, building profitable web properties and selling them as ready made, just name it.

Above all, you must be willing to invest in an internet domain name and subscribe to a reliable web hosting service provider. You are starting an internet business and not just a hobby because money will be exchanging hands between your targeted audience and you.

Here are the basic steps:
1. Research what you can do as a business on the internet, e.g. affiliate marketing business,
2. Choose a niche market where you can get started, e.g. women’s health, and identify a problem to solve,
3. Conduct keyword research and market competition analysis on the search terms surfers are entering into search engines to find solution to their problems. Your goal is to fight for low hanging fruits i.e. long tail keyword phrases with low competition,
4. Register a domain name with your target keyword in it and sign up with a web host,
5. Install WordPress blog on your domain name. It is free and easy to do from your web host,
6. Write SEO articles and publish regularly on your blog. The quality SEO articles you write must target long tail keyword phrases which you researched in item 3 above,
7. Build backlinks and promote your website blog with different methods including guest posting, social networking, video marketing, and so on, and
8. Make money online, rinse and repeat in more niche market.

The truth is, you don’t need more than $10 to get started which you will use to register domain name. HostGator offers one cent hosting for the first month. I am leery of Nigeria web hosts because the one I tried shortchanged me of disk space and bandwidth they advertised when I was just starting an online business few years ago. You must have an online platform of your own in order to have the flexibility to make money on the internet without getting banned or having hiccups.

I am not an advocate of offshore online paid surveys, paid to click, paid to read, etc which are not locally relevant. Also going for gigs that pay peanuts can get you in a rut especially when the cost of internet connection in Nigeria is still very high. Your return on investment must be high to make your internet business profitable.

Some of the traditional businesses you can do include:
1. Affiliate marketing business. Clickbank affiliate marketing and Amazon affiliate marketing should be okay for a start,
2. Buying and selling domain names and websites. You may have to know how to find expired domains which is another money spinner in domain flipping business
3. Writing and selling ebooks online including Amazon Kindle Publishing
4. Providing web services including virtual assistance and freelance writing. You can learn a lot from Onibalusi Bamidele’s blog on article writing services
5. Creating content blogs and websites and making money with Google Adsense monetization model
6. And everything in between
