kettykin:In your shallow thinking, you will prefer to be led by a spendthrift President who spends 1.3 billion naira monthly on feeding allowance. It is the likes of you who prefer to remain slaves to their elected leaders in their own country, whereas the reverse should be the case. Buharism means leading by example and cutting down on wastefulness. That is what Baba just displayed. |
Like the poster above me suggested, save money and buy a DStv decoder. It's still the best so far. |
Nairaland is a very popular online community or forum and it was created by Seun Osewa. It was created in 2005-- the month of March to be precise. The target of the forum is the Nigerian community. Over time, the forum has grown in leaps and bounds, receiving millions of visits from visitors who are searching for the latest information about Nigeria everyday. If you are seeking for any info about Nigeria, Nairaland forum is the place to visit. You will never be disappointed you did. As at today, more than 1,300,000 accounts are registered on Nairaland. This may not actually reflect the total number of individuals on the online community, since some Nigerians can have multiple accounts for reasons best known to them. As at today, Nairaland is ranked 7th among the most visited websites in Nigeria. It is however the indigenous site that is the most visited in Nigeria. This rating was given by Alexa.com. As at today, more than 55 million Nigerians have internet access and this constitute about 32% of the Nigerian population. Apart from the Nigerian visitors who visit the site , the forum also has a number of visitors from other countries such as Ghana, United states of America, United Kingdom and many more. If the above statistics is anything to go by, it means Nairaland can boast of up to 3% of the total internet users in Nigeria. This is amazing! Facebook has a higher number of Nigerians registered than what Nairaland can boast of. Up to 11 million Nigerians are registered on Facebook and this means that, about 20% of the total number of internet users in Nigeria are registered on Facebook. In addition to the 1,300,000 members registered on Nairaland as at march of 2015, Nairaland also has a large chunk of unregistered users, who only come online to access information made available on the forum. You do not need registration to access the information on Nairaland; you only need such registration to post any status. As at June of 2013, about 6,845,453 unique visitors accessed Nairaland.com. The total number of visitors received that month alone was 16,668,654. The number of page views for that same month alone was 60,031,356. On June 22 2014, Nairaland was taken off the internet. No thanks to an anonymous hacking attempt which though was largely successfully executed. Most of the content on Nairaland forum was deleted by the hackers, since they were able to access the backup on the server. Fortunately, however, some data were recovered using remote backup which saw the forum bouncing back to live on the third day. Any kind of information you need about Nigeria can be accessed on the site. There are loads of info about Nigerian politics, business, technology, religion, romance, education and any other topic you can ever imagine. It is similar to what you find on reddit. The information on the site is updated on regular basis and this gives visitors first hand info about Nigeria even before such information is reported by the newspapers or the electronic media. This is just one of the many things that make Nairaland undoubtedly one of the best websites in Nigeria. |

Who Should Emerge Nigerian President in 2015? Many Nigerians consider party affiliation in their choice of whom to vote to steer the wheel of governance in Nigeria. However, this is definitely not enough. While it may be true that birds of a feather flock together, however, let it be noted also that party affiliations have little to play for the ineptitude or character of a person who assumes a leadership position. This explains why we see some party members decamp even to the opposition parties after being elected into office. The mass Exodus of staunch PDP members into APC and vice versa is not new to us. Therefore, it is about time Nigerians looked inwards, to the personality of the individual they want to vote for. Here are a few qualities we should look out for in whom to vote for as Nigerian president in 2015. Competence The challenges facing Nigeria of today have really grown beyond what our founding fathers envisaged. The country is now bedevilled by growing problems of insecurity due to the nefarious activities of boko haram, cankerworms of corruption, high levels of illiteracy and unemployment, epileptic power supply, bad roads, deficient infrastructure, poor healthcare and a host of other contending issues that were absent a few decades ago. Consequently, the country needs a competent leader who is pragmatic in solving issues. It will be difficult for the country to record much progress if Nigerians continue to vote for leaders based on religion, ethnicity, sentiments or party affiliations. The time for change is now! Consequently, the next Nigerian President should be a competent individual with proven track record of excellence and great antecedents from past leadership positions or public office positions. It shouldn't matter if he is from the North, South, East or Western part of Nigeria. His seriousness and patriotism should count more! De-tribalism At this critical time which the country needs emergency intervention to overcome her challenges, it will be disastrous for Nigerians to choose their President in 2015 solely on tribalism. Nigerians cannot shy away from the current divisions created in the country along tribal, ethnic and religious lines. Favoring a particular ethnic group, major or minor, or a person based on their particular religious inclination to lead the country, with little or no regard for competence and passion to move the country forward, will further plunge the country into chaos, or disintegration as already "prophesied" in some quarters. God forbid! Although the next President will emerge from a particular ethnic group or tribe in the country, such individual must see Nigeria as his home and not just his place of origin. What Nigeria really needs is a resourceful but de-tribalized Nigerian who will hold the mantle of leadership and use it to better the lots of the Nigerian people collectively and not just his tribe or locality. Nigerians should choose the right individual who can foster unity and national cohesion and will fight for the integrity and sovereignty of the country. We can judge from their antecedents-- indeed by their fruits Nigerians already know them! Accountability One of the virtues of a good leader is sheer accountability to his people. Since 1960 till date, unfortunately Nigeria has been ruled by thoughtless leaders and their cronies who easily forget that power belongs to the people. The masses deserve allegiance and respect from their leaders rather than tyranny, lukewarm attitude or oppression. It is a pity that since Independence, only a few leaders ever declared their personal asset or show a form of accountability to the people. Yet, they flagrantly lavish our common wealth and siphon funds by siting white elephant projects. In the forthcoming general elections, Nigerians must stand up and vote a President who will listen to them, hold the mantle of leadership in a way that depicts love, concern and respect for the common man on the street. Nigeria is in dire need of a surgical operation. We need an honest messiah who is ready to be accountable to his people and render periodic account of his stewardship to Nigerians. In conclusion, as the 2015 general elections draw near, let us all assess the qualities of those candidates aspiring to lead us and are competing to win our votes. On the basis of Competence, De-tribalism and Accountability, we should separate the wheat from the chaff. We shouldn't throw away our votes but vote our conscience instead. We are all a living witness to the rising level of insecurity, unemployment and poverty despite our common wealth. Widespread corruption and other societal evils are troubling our dear nation at an alarming rate. Nigerians should get it right in 2015 lest we nail our collective destiny as a country. falconey:Really, the postponement leaves too many questions begging for answers. That the security apparatus in the country is saddled with fighting terrorism, hence cannot guarantee safety during election is a very lame excuse. I smell a rat here! |
Nairalander01:Nope, sold a long time ago. Now, let's concentrate on this topic. No derailing! |
Hello good people, of a great nation! I heard with mixed feelings the announcement of the poll shift last night, to March 28. INEC chairman claimed he had to bow to pressure following unfavourable security reports. Some interest groups believe it's to pave way for rigging, others think it's in the best interest of Nigerians. Naija news website So, what do you think? Is it for our collective success as a nation, to allow rigging, to cover INEC loop holes or to improve security? Pls, be objective... |
I use the MTN network to make calls, while making use of their home zone advantage which lets me call more for less. But their data plans seem too expensive. Hence, glo data services readily come to my rescue! |
