It's actually South East versus North East competing for the top spot for who is the worst in child right neglect. Not everything is funny and definitely this is not funny, these are real children whose destiny and lives are at grievous risk.

Here's calling on the authorities, especially states Governors, to address this serious problem.

The two zones are the hotspots of terrorism in Nigeria and this could be a feeder to the terrorism prevalent in North East and South East of Nigeria.

As you can see, it's like what Lesotho is to South Africa; landlocked with low land mass, low population, no naval asset and obviously not economically-prosperous. Our Independence Nationalists of Igbo extraction are wise for signing up to Nigeria wink

If you want to undo the decision of those wise men and women, go tell your current Senators, Governors, HOR men etc instead of wasting your time here on Nairaland. If you're a slave in Nigeria or consider yourself as one, it is quite unfortunate and I sympathise with you, please tell your representatives, it is his job to go to Abuja and ask and demand for for your freedom. “We have to make it very clear that 250 metres of the road legally belongs to the federal government.

“So if you have a title within these 250 metres and it is not a title from the federal government, then it is incumbent, and only the President will give a waiver if he so feels for payment. So I will work within the confines of the law,” he said

This could be where Landmark may be having problem and thereby clamouring that the road be returned to its old design of 4 lanes with no train instead of the current design of 10 lanes and 700km stretch of train lines in the midsection of each 5 lanes currently being constructed.

It's always absolutely important to check out the status of any land you're buying. Apparently, this is why for decades, most of that part of VI remained undeveloped; people are aware that FG owns that land and may have designated it for a major infrastructural project . It's unfortunate that Landmark took a huge risk by situating its real estate assets and beach resort there. Even the Minister of Works, in his recent interview, asserted that Landmark annexed the beach shoreline as that was not approved for Landmark by neither Lagos state nor Federal Government.

Landmark should start strategizing on the next line of action since the sandfilling of the beach shoreline has commenced. I am sure that they will be better elsewhere if they consider relocation too.

Lagos-Calabar Highway: FG panel to pay compensation in 10 days
19th April 2024

The Federal Government on Thursday inaugurated a compensation verification committee saddled with the responsibility of reviewing, evaluating and compensating landowners affected by the construction of the N15tn Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, who inaugurated the panel, also directed the committee to complete all verification and begin remuneration in 10 days ending April 28.

The move was part of efforts to hasten construction of the project set to revolutionise infrastructure in the country.

Umahi said verified claims would be settled within 72 hours by the contractor, Hitech Construction Limited, but remained silent on the total amount approved for the exercise.

The 700km Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project has been a subject of public scrutiny, following concerns by affected stakeholders and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over the cost, bidding and procurement processes.

The road designed to connect Lagos to Cross River, passing through the coastal states of Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom, before culminating in Cross River, estimated to gulp over N4bn per Kilometer.

The works minister, while inaugurating the committee at the ministry headquarters in Abuja, said the gesture was in line with the renewed hope agenda of the administration of President Bola Tinubu which is transparency.

He, however, warned that only property owners with proven titles would receive compensation, while shanties and those with property within the 250m shoreline setback without a federal government title would not be compensated, as it is a legal matter.

He said the committee was responsible for engaging with affected property owners, assessing compensation details, and potentially visiting the sites for proper evaluation.

He further added that the federal rate on compensation would be used to determine the amount and not a lower figure by the Lagos State government.

Umahi said, “We are committed to transparency and that is why we are inaugurating this committee today. We have had our alignment on both sections of phase one of the coastal road which is 47.7 km and the second section which is about 55km. Hence the need to set up a review committee to look at the work done by the environmental assessment team and the works to be reviewed by this committee is very simple. It is just to interact with property owners that are going to be affected and then in the process, look at the compensation as enumerated to be paid and when possible, you visit the site; and at the moment we are using the federal rate to do our remuneration.”

He further explained, “I know very well that no amount given will satisfy those affected but we are bound by the law so we are using the federal rate which is higher than Lagos State compensation rate in paying compensation. The moment the property owners sign, after filing necessary documents and bank accounts, within 72 hours, we will authorise payment.

“The contractor is going to be paying directly to all those who are affected. This, we are committed to doing, this verification exercise starts in Lagos on Wednesday.”

Umahi said that apart from verifying those to be paid, the committee would also verify the dimensions and make calculations based on the area and volume.

“So only those that have proven titles will be paid as they are brought to us in the ministry, although, it will still undergo some processes from us.

“We have to make it very clear that 250 metres of the road legally belongs to the federal government.

“So if you have a title within these 250 metres and it is not a title from the federal government, then it is incumbent, and only the President will give a waiver if he so feels for payment. So I will work within the confines of the law,” he said

Tasking the committee to be diligent in adhering to the dictates of the law, he said, “The committee is not in charge of ramp or anything but just to verify those who are going to be paid compensation, the authenticity of those filing for compensation, verify the dimensions, where possible, the amount and in their presence where the property owner signed, once these are authenticated, we direct the contractor to go ahead and pay.

“It is from the contractor’s money the compensation is routed.

“But where there is a title problem, it will need a Presidential waiver for such to be paid. It is only those with proven titles that will be paid as they are brought to us in the Ministry; because they will still undergo all the verification processes.

“So anyone with a title within the 250m and is not a federal government title, then it is incumbent that only the President can give a waiver if he feels so for the person to be paid. So, I will work within the confines of the law.”

Barclaycard:
To understand why the Yoruba are the most influential and the wealthiest people in Nigeria, study how they (not the Federal Government) dealt with the so-called Yoruba Nation agitators who tried to cause havoc and chaos in Ibadan last week.

First of all, the families of those involved publicly denounced them. In fact, one of the affected families took out an advert. That is to show you social responsibility at the family level.

Then, the society rose against them, with community members forcing them out and pointing out their properties and hideouts to the authorities. That demonstrates social cohesion and a society with a secure moral fabric. Secessionists can only operate where there is local support. If there is no local support, they will evaporate.

Next, the State Government did not wait for the Federal Government or their agencies. In less than a week, they had arrested all of those involved, demolished their properties and brought criminal charges against them. That is evidence of a responsible sub-national government.

No prominent Yoruba came out to make excuses for these agitators, or sympathise with them. As a unit, they called them by their names-miscreants. They did not even call them Unknown Miscreants (nobody is unknown to the community, except the community wants to hide behind one finger). They named and shamed them!

Now, let me ask you this question: If you are a Hausa, Fulani, Ijaw, or other prominent tribe, or even a former Nigerian leader and the Nigerian Army, will you have any hesitation in handing over ultimate power to such a people? Of course not! They deserve power because they are responsible wielders of authority, and the ship of state is safe in their hands.

You may now insult!

It is like comparing the first model of ford cars now to Ford EV cars of today in terms of scope and efficiency. Ignorance is not bliss o.

Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge

In building the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge, which took just fourteen months, assembly-line, mass-production methods were utilized for the first time in the construction of a bridge.

In the 1940s and 1950s, New Orleans experienced growth. Unfortunately, access from the north to the City continued to be limited by Lake Pontchartrain. Driving around the Lake was a time consuming effort. During this time period, a renewed interest developed to provide a direct connection across the center of the Lake to the north shore. As a result, the Greater New Orleans Expressway Commission was formed to build the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge. The original bridge (southbound) was opened on August 30, 1956.

Two factors contributed to why the bridge received this designation: (1) the civil engineers who worked on the project; and (2) the innovative techniques used during construction.

Dr. Maxwell Upson, who was the Chairman of the Board of Raymond Concrete Pile Company, one of the largest contracting companies for foundations in the United States, was an innovator in the field of prestressed concrete, particularly in pile fabrication and installation. He saw prestressed concrete as a way to break down the barriers that once limited how piles could be installed. Before Dr. Upson's research, most concrete piles were square with dimensions of 24 inches or less. He saw potential for using piles with dimensions of 36 to 54 inches. Using smaller pile segments and prestressing technology, he revolutionized the way piles were manufactured.

Some of the other engineers working with Dr. Upson were Henry LeMieux, District Manager for the Raymond Concrete Pile company, who was instrumental in promoting the use of the 54 inch prestressed concrete piles; Walter Blessey (ASCE President, 1979) of Tulane University who was responsible for research and testing of the prestressed concrete elements and who help advance the technology; and Wayne Palmer of Palmer & Baker, Inc. which was the engineering firm responsible for the design of the bridge.

Up until Upson's development of the 54 inch hollow cylindrical prestressed concrete piles, the standard practice was to use solid square or circular concrete piles with dimensions equal to, or less than, 24 inches. Upson also developed a new method to manufacture these concrete piles so that they would achieve a higher concrete strength - nearly 10,000 psi. This procedure was called cenviro which used centrifugal force to generate a drier more compact concrete.

Louisiana soil, which is made up of soft clays and silts, does not develop large tip bearing capacities and require that piles be driven deep until sufficient resistance is developed to support the load. Therefore, these large, prestressed hollow piles were ideal for developing the foundation for a bridge since they could withstand the hammer blows needed to drive the piles deeper into this type of soil.

Once they decided that these larger hollow cylindrical prestressed concrete piles could be used for their bridge foundation, the civil engineers needed to develop a design and method of construction. Given that the contract required construction of the 24-mile span in only 23 months, the engineers devised a rather simple structure - two piles straddled by a bent cap supporting the ends of two 56 foot decks. This simple layout is repeated over and over. By making the components (piles, bent caps, and decks) identical, Upson, Blessey and the engineers at Palmer and Baker could employ the theories of mass production to build this bridge. A concrete casting plant was built at the northern end of the bridge; the components were prefabricated and then barged out via the Lake to the construction site. This assembly-line process significantly reduced both the construction cost and the installation time. The record shows that the bridge was constructed in fourteen months from the time the first piles were driven on May 23, 1955. The original (now Southbound) span opened to traffic on August 30, 1956.

Thank God! After decades of holding down the development of those two Lagos ports because some unpatriotic elements think they can sabotage the Yoruba and Lagos state by tying down the progress of the port in order to build ports elsewhere to push commerce away from Lagos. It is so sad that this upgrade should have been done much earlier than now , rather humongous funds were diverted elsewhere to build multiple political ports that today are white elephant projects.

This is a great lesson to others who think that it is through envy and slowing down the progress of those you hate that they can progress, it is not! Lagos ports are the best and should by now be competing with the best ports in the world but they frustrated the ports till they forced us to build our own private Lekki deep seaport before they realized that they need to upgrade those ports they almost killed with politics of hate , bigotry and unpatriotic decisions.

Epic History revisionism fail. From failing to revise the history of Lagos now to attempting to revise the history of the ancient Ile Ife where the Benin royalty of Yoruba descent hail from and heads of departed Oba of Benin are buried. The place called Orun Oba Ado in Ile Ife still stands till date. The Yoruba forebears had a premonition that this kind of time could come so had insisted that the heads of departed Oba of Benin must 'rest' in Orun Oba Ado in Ile Ife.

Ooni Unveils Tingo Drinks, Says Nigeria Can Contest For Global Markets

Wednesday, April 17, 2024
by Pascal Oparada

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has unveiled two new carbonated drinks. The monarch unveiled Tingo Cola and Tingo Electric, produced by Tingo Foods, owned by Tinko B.V. Plc. Tinko B.V. Plc, an Ojaja Pan Africa Limited subsidiary, produces the new drinks, Tingo Cola and Tingo Electric.

The Ooni said the new drinks have been certified for consumption and distribution by the appropriate regulatory bodies.

The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has unveiled Tingo drinks, a new addition to the carbonated drinks industry in Nigeria. At the unveiling, the first-class royal father disclosed that Nigeria could compete favourably in the global soft drinks industry with quality products.

The Ooni disclosed that he has always dreamed of owning a soft drink brand that would produce quality products to position Nigeria in the global soft drinks market. He said: “The license under which we produce Tingo Cola, Tingo Electra, Tingo Twist (Cucumber and Cranberry), and Tingo Booze Fruit Mix proves we are committed to quality and standards. “One of our main focuses is our sheer determination to elevate homegrown brands instead of demarketing them. That’s why we have put resources together to create these exceptional drinks and produce what we consume to reduce importation and save the Naira.” Ooni vows to create five million jobs.

The Ooni disclosed that his entrance into commercial activities as a monarch is not profit-oriented but serves as a pathfinder to show people how to add value to products for international standards via seamless product distribution, stating that his business ventures came from his passion for humanity. He said he has embarked on business to create five million direct and indirect jobs for the Nigerian youths via retailing, recycling, and other forms of distribution driven by technology.

The monarch stated that Tingo Foods products have been certified by appropriate regulatory authorities, such as NAFDAC, and are fit for consumption. “The Tingo Cola, for instance, is laced with lemon flavour and other natural ingredients such as cucumber, cranberry, and others that showcase the brand's originality and uniqueness.

We made it according to safe specifications for consumption,” he said. Video shows the moment Ooni of Ife shared cash with traditional rulers Legit.ng reported that Oba Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II had been seen in a viral video sharing money with some traditional rulers at the famous Aje festival in Ife, Osun state. In the video, as the chant of the first-class traditional ruler in the southwest was praised, the Ooni was bustling, sharing a bundle of cash with the conventional rulers seated at the festivals.

Aje, the god of wealth in Yoruba mythology, was always celebrated yearly by the people of Ife and the Yoruba.
