Education / Re: Akin Baruwa Jailed 21 Years For Raping Admission Seeker by freeze001(f): 5:58pm On Feb 20, 2020
NAN reports that prosecution had said that Baruwa raped the complainant at 9.25a.m. on July 23, 2015, in Room 8 at the Faculty of Business Administration Annex building, Unilag.
Ijawwomaninoyo:

She was not qualified for the admission, she and her father were trying to use the lecturer to pass through the back door hence the trouble.
The lecturer asked her to come to his office around 6am which she did, do offices open in the school by 6am?
Certainly, they must have used money too, only God and them knows the remaining and whatever they agreed upon before meeting in his office by 6am where the incidence took place.

Some of you need to learn how to read and stop supporting/enabling rape! The rapist naturally lied; the young survivor was even taken to the man's office by her own father yet I wonder where you manufactured 6am from. Even if that were the case, is he such a he-goat that he could not respect her father, his wife and his children? Why rape and hurt the girl?
Education / Re: Akin Baruwa Jailed 21 Years For Raping Admission Seeker by freeze001(f): 5:47pm On Feb 20, 2020
She did not go by herself. Her father took her there himself believing that the idiot could render assistance towards securing admission. He had no respect for the girl's father at all! Or you want to claim the father took her there as a love-vendor for the idiot to rape? The court has ruled that he raped her and there is medical evidence to prove it so stop the equivocation claiming you do not support rape yet you are looking for how to blame the victim! Even if they were dating which is not the case, could he not respect the girl's father? If you even read the post well you would have seen that the idiot rapist is not even employed by UNILAG but only worked with the school on an ad-hoc basis! In short, you and this rapist have something in common!!

The complainant (victim) had told the court that her father took her to Baruwa’s home one morning for the purpose of helping her to gain admission into Unilag.
She said that while in his office, Baruwa told her to pick up a piece of paper from the floor and forcefully pushed her on a couch and raped her.

The complainant said she was a virgin and never had a boyfriend before the rape that occurred three months away from her 19th birthday.

lucky4west:
sad... i do not support rape, the guy said it was consensual and the girl is 18 no body believed him, i'm not defending or supporting him, but this guy did not carry the girl from her house, she came seeking admission and to some extent there would have been a consensual arrangement, his sentence is too much for the offense, some of our politicians, religious leaders, celebrities rape, harass, molest, sleep with myriads ladies every day nothing happens even if u report: these guys are above the law...now that it is a hapless part time lecturer the law is coming out in full force....Obesere was once accused of rape he said it was consensual they believed him, Peruzzi was accused nothing came out, Apostle Johnson Suleiman nothing came out and so on and so forth...but poor man the law will brandish all its arsenal to strike...

The question is, if these feats could be achieved at the height of deprivation and in wartime, why are youth then turning beggars in peace time when there are a lot of positive activities to yield their boundless energies towards? No one is asking them to go commit crime or become radicalised but you naturally look for anything negative to hold on to and say an Igbo man said! Earned millions under Atiku? Was it not Obasanjo that was president? Or you are dodging because he's yoruba like you?
itsme01:

are this two lines something a disgusting politician who earned millions under Atiku should use in motivating ibo youths? hijack of a plan and shooting of Obasanjo? or you think Fulanis also don't have enough radicalism to gloat about, or Yorubas cant open some nasty civil war atrocities just to gloat and for motivational speakers..

look the more thread, speeches and snide remarkes Ibos throw the less likely any of their political goals would get any alliance from any one.. if they like let them open 10s of thread daily.. we see through the craps

Na wa o! Anything to just see yourself supposedly bashing Igbos! This is a leader trying to revive the courage and spirit of youths to work hard and not allow themselves to waste away or be discouraged by economic hardships by telling them what young persons like them were able to do even in the worst of circumstances!
This is applicable to all Nigerian youths because the malaise of joblessness and dependence on government/political handouts has spread across all regions in this country! This does not include those that have turned to drugs, armed robbery and even suicides! Now, instead of getting the gist of his analogy you are calling your people losers and trying to change history! Grow up please!

You wanna play national politics? You have to be smart. Ipob with Nnamdi KANU has insulted virtually all tribes in the country. They have been very vocal in their insults. The best obi would have done is to avoid the burial and send message across on a low.

Imagine obi eventually getting the PDP ticket in 2023. All APC need to do is to just display or distribute his picture with ipob to northerners and westerners.

He should learn to play smart.

This was the burial of an Eastern traditional leader of great repute and his wife. Any idiot that turns it to an IPOB discourse is exactly that, an idiot! Even security agencies and NTA were on ground at the ceremony, will you advocate their boycott too?

If he didn't attend, u and your kind will use it as a point of claiming he doesn't identify with other Igbos. Now he's attended, you're making silly noises! Park well jare!

Please it is too early for tribal/ethnic/religious bigotry and stupidity. The post is about the deliberate grounding of a core national institution by the President/Executive. My post reflects the same issues by calling out the responsible parties who ought to ensure that institutions run smoothly/optimally. Is GEJ the president today? What explanation is there for the failure of the president to appoint commissioners for FCC as required by law? Why should the FCC be left with just one commissioner when it ought to have 37? Can you see the issue without jumping in with these baseless submissions you put up in the name of defending Buhari and comparing with GEJ? Did GEJ ever leave the FCC without its constitutional appointees? Why are you like this? Who did this to you? Or is it the zombie serum? Tueh!

Stalwert:

When GEJ stuffed most of the position with SE people the Federal Character was Quota System that must be rejected, you wanted a merit based system. But the moment you liars sit and make claims that PMB is nepotistic without any evidence except your well rehearsed hate and bigotry, we have to call you out, you problem is Federal Character, you problem is greed you want everything be given to you because no one else is worthy to handle such position.

Suddenly every one from the north us Fulani and are PMB relatives, this senseless reasoning is what you term nepotism.

This country is gone to the dogs!

Naturally, since Buhari is the king of nepotism, he will not 'remember' that there is a Federal Character Commission that needs to have commissioners put in place to ensure balance even though we know appointees will still be stupid APC stooges that will uphold politics over their core mandates! If it was petroleum or NDDC or NPA, he will sharply appoint and re-appoint!
Our rubber-stamp national assembly also has Senate and House Committees on Federal Character but they are also dead asleep, exercising no oversight to call the Executive to order with respect to its statutory duties!

Why won't there be shoddy recruitment in various MDAs with no consideration for federal character? Is this not dereliction of duty and non-performance? Is this not an impeachable offense? Unfortunately, both the Executive and National Assembly are guilty. Then the states that know that they have not nominated any Federal commissioner for the FCC are also in another class of stupid!

In short, I am tired!

The method described above is almost quintessential Bokoharam; now, setting aside the fact that after a decade of this barley altered method, Nigeria military and security services should have worked out how to prevent it, could someone better informed please tell us how is it that military and police aren’t able to at least track them down?

Given 21st century progress in surveillance capability, historic law enforcement lesson learnt, bank robbers have a neigh impossible task today escaping successfully in vehicles and yet such a convoy presumably has a smaller footprint than terrorist mounted on trucks, roaring into town, nosily machine gunning people, burning vehicles and kidnapping and setting off on the highway with kidnapped women and children. Why are they never tracked down? How difficult could it be to track them down, especially given that this is a regular occurrence?

So after all the wicked lies, dry posturing and boasting, you mean Buhari underestimated the BH? Then why the hell did you think it was okay to attack Jonathan and blame him for purely northern fostered and incubated problems designed only to make him look bad and throw him out of office? This was a full civilian who had never been faced with such issues and yet acquitted himself creditably while in office!
I hope you know Jonathan was also in office for only 5 years and seriously degraded BH after the initial setbacks until Buhari came into office and first ordered all roadblocks/military checkpoints to be removed, giving BH the leeway to infiltrate other areas of the North more easily? In addition to the BH that has since grown in gargantuan proportions from 2015, Nigeria has to deal with supposed bandits who are just BH and fulani herdsmen under a more neutral name. Did we have issues in Niger, Katsina and Zamfara before 2015? Were they under the kind of siege they are now?

The difference between Jonathan's 5 years and that of Buhari is clear; Buhari is a complete failure and a dirty lying bastard to boot!

Officialgarri:

Well, we all should admit he didn't understand the complexity or perhaps, he acted in the way of politicians.
But nevertheless, we cannot underestimate the progress on containing BH, especially when they were once at the peak of almost establishing caliphates in 50% of Northern States and maybe FCT.

But if it was that easy, then I think US should be done with Al-qaeda for 30years. They should have withdrawn their troops in victory from Afghanistan.

They cannot cover the whole swathe of the land mass of the at state abi? Tell me, is BH operating in all parts of Borno? Secondly, how come there are enough soldiers to be deployed to a peaceful Abia community that wants to simply honour and bury their dead traditional leaders yet there aren't enough soldiers and security personnel to address the real and present danger of BH terrorist attacks? They are busy harassing innocent Igbos while islamic terrorists are running free in the north from Niger, Zamfara and Adamawa all through Kaduna and Borno? Very funny!

Focusmind:
This is not the time to start attacking Buhari or the government. Fighting a jihadist insurgents is never an easy battle.

Borno state alone is bigger than the whole of South East in LAND MASS. The soldiers and security forces cannot cover that whole swath of that area.

But the government need to engage with the Syrian regime and Russia to learn how they were able to recover a large swath of land from the rebel fighters. Agreed that the rebels in Syria are more of organized fighting force compared to the Gorilla warfare tactics adopted by the Boko Haram Jihadists, let our government devise a more offensive way to tackle this menace especially in areas of intelligence gathering.

Whether you like it or not,the president has the powers to unofficially influence the final shortlist of judges.past presidents have done it,buhari won't be an exception.continue mourning over your loss in bayelsa, kogi and lately imo.
You are mocking the incorruptible tanko.where were you when katsina alu was committing all sorts of judicial abominations?

All you are after is defending a cadaver that is naturally unaware of your existence, you are not concerned that the Supreme court is now alarmingly understaffed and the judges aen't babies either! At the time Tanko became CJN, there were 16 judges. Today, there are 13; NJC has since recommended judges to Buhari and no action has been taken. That is the crux of the matter!

I have already stated that whatever underhanded thing or indirect actions as you put it can be taken because we have a dullard for president and aeroplane-driving Tanko for CJN. However, they do not have to be slow about it! Names forwarded since October and till date no action? That's the height of ineptitude no matter the horse-trading that is taking place at that level.

“Even when they rally and they ask their people to join them, the robbers among them will also join the rally. Rallies don’t stop crime… It is enough to tell the government to step up the fight against security, to step up the funding of security agencies but to hold rallies against insecurity means holding a rally against the government.”

This clearly implies that the government itself is the head and author of insecurity and that is why to hols a rally protesting heightened insecurity in the land is equated to rallying against the government. MURIC and co are in fact the religious arm of government always attempting to water-down glaring incidences of religious and ethnic cleansing against Christians that is why once the Christian body sounds a warning or raises an alarm, they are branded an opposition to the government.

Seems your cogitative ability is frozen.in the spirit if democratic tenets,if the number of judges are alarmingly low,it behoves on the executive or legislature to remind or advice the judicisry to do its duty.this is part of checks and balances whereby when one arm of government is misbehaving, the others can advice or reprimand.separation of powers does not mean each will mind its business indefinitely and watch things go awry afterall there are several cases even in the u.s where one arm cautions the other.

Again, you contradicted yourself in a haste to justify calling the president a dullard.if the list is to be sent to the president for approval and transmission to the senate, does it not occur to you that the president has the power to reject or disapprove of the list if he doesn't like the names there? Since the senate has the power to screen or reject the nominees, the president can also reject the names..

If i a layman can have reasons to reject 3 out of 4 recommended judges, then the president must have bigger reasons.mind you, most of those judges are relatively inexperienced.there are more than ten judges that outrank them in rank and judgments.the president has the discretion to do whatever he likes with the list.before attacking him ignorantly,be sure of your facts boy

First, judges are subject to the NJC which has power to screen and interview all candidates nominated (by judicial service commissions) for judicial appointments to Superior Courts of Record in the Federation. Any investigation for suitability or otherwise would be sorted out and resolved by the NJC before recommendation to the President. The president does not have the power to decide what judge will be recommended by the NJC, that would be interfering with the powers of the judiciary.

@ the bold: These are justices of the court of appeal being recommended for elevation to the Supreme court. What inexperience are you blabbing about? Also understand that federal character is respected in appointments to the Supreme court and must be taken into consideration so that at all times, geopolitical zones are equitably represented.

Finally, the information at our disposal per this news is that no action has been taken from or by the President. If he had rejected some names for whatever reason, that would have been reported to say that the Presidency after whatever investigation say by the DSS or other government agency, found some of the recommended judges unsuitable but like I said, it is not even the place of the president to do so. That can only happen under the table especially now we have an aeroplane-driving CJN as head of the NJC.

I will not toe the same childish lines you have by insulting your betters. Just get an education!

God bless President Muhammadu Buhari and his AMIABLE Vice President PROF YEMI OSINBAJO for all they are doing to make our once battered and raped nation work again.

God bless Nigeria.

Mr Grillz, first, it is contrary to the tenets of democracy and separation of powers that the head of the executive will write to the head of the judiciary ordering him to commence the process for the appointment of justices to the Supreme Court. The process is clearly laid down in the constitution.

Secondly, while ignoring the overbearing tendencies of the Executive, the NJC which has the Constitutional power to recommend prospective appointees to the President for his approval has indeed done so and names have been forwarded to the President since October 2019. This is February, 2020. Can you give any coherent explanation for why the dullard of a president who is most unaware has not taken requisite action on the process of appointment for over 4 months now? I'm sure you read the entire article and you can see clearly that the process has since been delayed by Buhari so why are you making any fuss over his ill-fated letter to the CJN?

In June 2019, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), wrote a letter requesting the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammadu, to “initiate in earnest the process of appointing additional five Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria to make the full complement of 21 Justices” as provided by the Constitution.

But the President has yet to act on the list of four Justices of the Court of Appeal recommended by the National Judicial Council and sent to him for appointment to the apex court’s bench since October 2019.

A statement by the NJC’s Director, Information, Mr Soji Oye, had stated that the council, at its meeting held on October 22 and 23, 2019, recommended Justices Adamu Jauro, Emmanuel Agim, C. Oseji, and Helen Ogunwumiju.
