Phenomenalopeye:you don't want to take the SAT, you don't want to evaluate. In this journey, some commitments and sacrifices ought to be made. Cc: Drdoom3 can tell you that because this is his second year of application. I think the SAT is still open this year, to have a shot at those big schools you mention or even smaller schools, please take the SAT. If you're planning to apply to HBCUs, you can target the ones that don't need evaluation but to be on the safest side, evaluate. Because you might find out that they issue full ride with 1100 SAT and 3.5 GPA. Someone with that stats will get it but you with 1500 and 3.9 unevaluated GPA won't get it. Make some investments. You can't expect to have everything free and rely on luck. It might work but if you can increase your chances, please do. 5 Likes 1 Share |

RemarkableMind:taking standardized tests increases your chances of getting a VISA against someone who didn't take. It proves to the V.O that you are at least a bit serious about studying in the US. But it is no determinant whether you'd get a VISA or not. I've also read transcripts here where V.O denied people because they've not taken any standardized tests so it's just good to be on the safer side. 3 Likes |

TheNoble007: It's not about rejecting correction or not. Some people have not spent much time on nairaland so they don't know lagosismyhome and in this case are more objective than me and you. I joined NL in 2013. I have seen how much lagosismyhome has contributed greatly to this thread in wisdom, advice and cash. Even the other gurus are not as frequent here as she is here again. And because I know her, that's why I didn't attack her but try to understand where she's coming from. The best persons that would tell things objectively are people that don't know her. This is a faceless forum, you can't assume everybody is below you or a nobody. In correcting him, why didn't you PM him like you suggested he should do to lagosismyhome? Because you probably felt he's not worth it or there's no way he'd be older than her or more respectable. If anybody has anything against anybody's stance or opinion here, he or she should try to state it out (albeit refraining from insults unless when necessary). We don't go in the DM's with the rest people I don't see why she should be an exception, especially when these people don't know her. 17 Likes |

Mrshape: If you have prepared students for this exam then that's as good as you preparing for it already. The way you sounded before was like an overconfident newbie that believes solely in his wit and not adequate preparation. 1 Like |

Mrshape:you're very funny. Wit alone would not make you ace SAT. Only Adequate preparation would make you ace it. You have to be familiar with their pattern and you have to learn time management. If you write the exam exactly the way you're saying now, you won't get up to 1200. 3 Likes |

kastgeraldino:this is a rule I believe would still be challenged. Whether the student will win or not is what I don't know. Because imagine those guys from first world countries paying $50k for tuition in different schools and you're saying they're not eligible for OPT for Corona that's entirely not their fault. This is a rule that can change anytime, more so with the hopeful change of power in November (God abeg) Regardless, for Grad students. Deferring would be better if that option is available. Because as it stands that's the rule and that's what we should work with. And for clarification abeg.. this OPT stuff, is it that the person would not be eligible for this coming Summer's internship opportunity or won't be eligible for post graduation work OPT? 2 Likes |

RemarkableMind:don't try ECE, they will suck your GPA. Unless you don't need a high GPA for the admission and or scholarship. That was how I wasted 90K to do evaluation. WES gave me 3.1 using their calculator, ECE gave me 2.5. The thing about ECE is just that it's fast, everything was done within a week. If you don't really need the GPA and your WAEC grades are high. You can use it. 6 Likes |

slimmy2005:if you were smart and had little modicum of sense in you, you will know that the USCIS has since started a phased resumption of embassy due to conditions in each countries and this has nothing to do with Trump. Trump's focus in winning re-election, not keeping tabs on the 196 countries to see which and which he'd stifle. Every country that has gotten this under control has opened embassy, even south Korea. If your school doesn't go in-class, then there's not need going to the embassy. That's a known fact and has nothing to do with the incessant gobbledegook you constantly spew. And how does citizens bringing their spouses affects F1 VISA that brings $41B. The two statements are unconnected, it's evident you're a hopeless troll. It's more logical to say embassies might not open this year because cases in Nigeria might keep rising and not be kept under control, but to say they'd open and not attend to F-1 VISA is nothing but utter stupidity. 25 Likes 1 Share |

slimmy2005:the Nigerian embassy itself specifically made the announcement themselves. If embassy opens F-1 would be their priority and to say otherwise is dimwitted and baseless. They don't want new F-1 students but embassy opened in other countries where COVID-19 has been controlled?. F-1 students bring $41Billion yearly to the US, so it sure is a top priority. Quit this clownery. I have not seen you contribute any meaningful thing to this thread at all. You don't answer when people have questions. But when anyone talks about embassy opening that's when you'd come and say US has banned F1 VISA. The stupidity. 26 Likes 1 Share |

slimmy2005:Lol how can you say they would open and not attend to F-1 students? Time and Time again, they've stated repeatedly that they would prioritize F-1 students. In the countries that have opened, that's what they've done. F, M and J. It's like you're intentionally trying to rile incoming students and that's unwarranted 10 Likes |

greenskittles:if you always take decisions based on how humans respond to you and not how you choose to take it, you would end up making bad life decisions. You overlooked all the info you've gained on this thread, all the persons that had taken out time to help and all the remaining good on this thread. Instead you choose to focus on people that don't say what you want them to say and used it as a basis to decide to quit?. That's not cool bro. Everybody has had one or two times where people have bashed them or insulted their opinions, nobody too vex, every body shake body move on. And these other persons you're hating, in truth are just being practical. You're using emotions, they are using facts. Optimism is good and everyone should be optimistic. But ask yourself as it stands, out of a 100% , what's the percentage that embassy would open? And if your school is making plans for you then why should you be angry instead of being happy? You even have more hope more than the rest of us. Why should what they say affect your optimism? 9 Likes |

Mrshape: Brother, you'd make much more from focusing on your studies than doing off-campus work when you don't really need it. Do you know why Nigerians do better than Mexicans despite both being hustlers? According to what I read somewhere, don't know how genuine it is. It is because while a Mexican is comfortable working a job for 2 years, his Nigerian counterpart starting at the same time with him would be looking for certifications and extra skills to climb up the ladder and earn more. My point is, if you can get a full ride, focus on the school, read and get a stellar GPA, apply for conferences and external scholarships to build yourself, take extra online courses, if you're going for biology or anything in STEM, try to know a bit of coding even if it's HTML and CSS. There might be on campus jobs for 20hrs/week, this in addition to your full ride is good money. Build yourself to be employable after college. If you do this, it's better than stressing yourself working off campus when you don't really need to do so. Look at life after that 4 years in college. If you're getting a full ride, I don't see why you would so much want to still work ilegally or say it's full tuition you want and not a full ride. 11 Likes |

wamiikechukwu: Okay. If you're an A+ student you can try to apply to the Ivy leagues (havard, Yale, brown) and the likes. If you're an A student, look at schools like Washington and Lee, Franklin and Marshall, Oberlin college , emory, north western and the likes. if you're a B student, you can apply to honors college of mcneese state, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, university of Arkansas little rock, Howard University and Morehouse college. If you're a C student you can just look at HBCUs that give automatic Scholarships when you meet their criteria. Schools like Norfolk state, alcorn state, mississipi valley state, Alabama state, Shaw university etc, they're the easiest to get scholarships. But if you're looking for just straight Admission without focus on scholarships, just apply to HBCUs in general, you'd get your decision in 2 weeks +. 8 Likes 1 Share |

Mrshape:working in the US on F1 VISA is illegal. It's only legal when you're doing internship in the summer and when you work on campus (20hrs/week) jobs. Additionally, after your 1 year in college. If you can demonstrate financial hardship, prove to them that your sponsor is dead or can't provide you with funds again. You might be allowed to work off campus legally on F1 VISA for 40hrs/week. But since you're looking for a full ride, you would not meet the last criteria because there would be no basis for "financial hardship". And to keep your scholarship, focusing on your studies should be Paramount, not work. 3 Likes |

Cassidyice:alot of people here did BSc for undergraduate so that might be why you've not been answered. A lot of people have gone through this process in previous threads so you can try to search. You'd see a lot of references. From what I know, not all schools accepts HND and you would need WES evaluation. You'd need to do a lot of searching, mostly on Nairaland, because I believe this is the best website to get answers to your situation. |

IrishCrown:defer to when? When I was issued my I-20 and paid the SEVIS fee. The new I-20 I was issued to include the "hybrid class" stuff, bore the same SEVIS ID. Even a previous one I was re-issued to indicate a change in resumption date, still bore the same SEVIS ID. If you're deferring to spring, I think the only thing that would change would be your program start date but I don't know about Fall 2021. Ultimately, I think you should just ask your school. 1 Like 1 Share |

Oreoluwamipo:to better understand your stance. Provide answers to this. 1. Why do you want another bachelors degree? 2. What is your CGPA? 3. How old are you? 4. Are you anticipating a change in career? 5. When did you finish your first BSc degree? 6. Are you looking for funding or you have a sponsor? Answer this first, it'll help make people give better suggestions. |

mvem:I'm not disputing this also. I've read personal accounts on it. Just that this "miscalculations" is not as much as it is being pushed by Trump supporters/right wing/anti-maskers. The agenda of pushing it is to try to discredit the efficacy of masks in combating Coronavirus, claiming it's not as worse as the media is painting it. 1 Like |
