@Twood. Stop beating up yourself in a faceless forum. Respect people's decision. Let them write as many letters as they wish. They don't care about most of your comments. For me, I don't even read. Can't be bothered about your ego. If you think the "letter of intent" is a Nigeria invention, then leave it to us. Let us write. You can't know more than the Consuls and CBP officers. Have had a first-hand experience at JFK, so there's NOTHING you can tell me. I don't care about your nationality. I love my green passport and have used same in more than 9 countries, including The UK, Canada and your U.S.A.

Hello pee,
Am kind of confused here, people keep saying they stamp them 6months at POE, am presently in Orlando Florida, got in almost a month ago and the stamp I have on my passport is Admitted, please, where is the 6months written there cos I no see anything like that?

Nothing to worry about, but next time, it's advisable to always confirm from the CBP officer or check your I-94 online so you are sure exactly how long you're permitted to stay in the US. Was also stamped in (Admitted) and the the duration of stay wasn't written. Once I noticed, I went back to the CBP officer and he said it's nothing to worry about. Told him the last time I came in, I was given 6 months and it was boldly written with a blue pen; he insisted it's nothing with a smile.

Checked my I-94 online. I was adnitted until October 2017. I nor wan hear story.

Maybe it's an integrity test, but I can't see myself doing three weeks outside Nigeria.

Mr terminalia, let each person make whatever response that suits them. You are neither the forum owner or the moderator. It's not everyone that kowtows to you, if that's what you think.

@Twoods.

Please stop misleading people. I just came back from the US leaving my wife behind to have our baby.

My firsthand expereince;

Before the trip, I sent a letter of intent to the US Consulate and got the usual response.

At JFK POE; once the CBP officer took my wife's finger print. He told my wife that it was a good thing she already sent a letter of intent to the US consulate notifying them about her intention to give birth in the US. He was very pleased and stamped us in without further questions.

We were both surprised the information was actually recorded in the system.

We are all adults. Please leave people alone to do what suits them and what they can defend. You live in the US and don't know what travellers encounter just to cross the US border.

Do you really have problem with people coming to the US?

Commendable thread for those that are skeptical due to the recent travel ban issued by the U.S Government.

I came in through JFK by Virgin Atlantic September 2016. Plane touched down at 12:45 am New York Time. It was a very short queue and was busy talking with a lady I met in London during the three hours layover. On the queue; a middle-aged man directed me to a CBP officer while the lady was directed to another officer.

Me: Good morning.

CBP Officer: Morning; Passport please? Took my finger print.

CBP Officer: Why are you in the U.S?

Me: For professional development Program on Contract Management and negotiation. I mentioned date of training and the University it was held.

CBP Officer: How long are you staying?

Me: 10 days

CBP Officer: Okay, welcome to the U.S. Stamped me in for 6 months.

Me: Thank you.

Proceeded to Agriculture and scanned my Bag through and that was it.

No need for panic if your intention in the U.S is straightforward.

I went for U.S visa interview this morning and it went thus:
VO: why are you travelling to California?
Me: I'm travelling for a cousin's wedding and I want to use the opportunity to broaden my horizon. As a researcher and a PhD student, I know I would be travelling to different parts of the world presenting papers in conferences in future. Seemed she did get me.
Vo: what do you do?
Me: I'm a ..... working with ....state ministry of health.
Vo: how long have you worked at the ministry?
Me: didn't get her so I said 'pardon'?
Vo: she repeated the question
Me: 7 years
Vo: Have traveled out of the country?
Me: Never had any reason to
Vo: are you married?
Me: not yet
Vo: typed for 30 seconds to one1 minute. Left her sit for another office, spent like 1 minute, came back scanned my passport two times before handing me a green paper with my passport with a smile telling me to try some other time.
Note: this is my first attempt to travel out of the country. When filing the form I stated my salary was #100,000 which is my take home pay after much deductions. But I have two diagnostic centers in Abuja that generate more than #500,000 monthly and I have 5 staff. But I used government hospital because I thought it would speak better than my private biz which is 5 years and 1 year plus. There was no time to tell her about my other businesses even though I went with supporting documents. In case of next time, do I marge my biz income with government salary though my pay slip will tell my real salary. Moreover, what's the meaning of the green paper instead of the yellow paper for rejection? What I have written here is the truth and God knows. I hope to defend my PhD before August and wish to go for a conference before the end of the year. Thank you all.

The colour of the paper is insignificant. Shift your attention to the context.

Below are strong ties considered by the U.S visa officers in scoring an applicant points.

▪Marriage
▪Family, Children
▪Work, Years of Experience, Professional Certification, and Salary
▪Previous Travel Experience.

You have just one from the above and did well explaining your "intent" in the U.S.

Your "Monthly Salary in Local Currency" Should be N600,000. This should have scored you some points even though you have no wife and children yet, but you blew your chances without informing the consul about your private business which should have been considered your strong ties that will compel you to return back to Nigeria at the end of your temporary stay.

You can always reapply. Make use of the column in the application form "Briefly describe your duties" write intelligently about all you do in your paid employment and private business.

Thank you so much LadyGuinivere, Please,after filling out the separate form for each member of my family,how do we secure the same visa appointment date owing to the fact that it's a separate application form.?

As the primary applicant, you'll have to add your dependents when scheduling your appointment. Follow the instruction from where you'll see "Add by name" click and add your dependent. You will all be interviewed as a family.

Good afternoon all. Please i need your advise on this. I wish to attend a 3 day conference in New york, and afterwards, visit my relatives in Texas for 5days (my duration of stay was indicated 8days in my form). I hope this will not be a problem for me on my interview i.e. indicating both conference and visiting on the same trip or should i just stick with CONFERENCE alone?

would really love to use this opportunity to visit them, its been really long.

You shouldn't have a problem if your intent is well established.
Travel / Re: USA Visit Visa Part 2 by FrontPageLawyer(m): 6:15pm On Feb 28, 2017
@makforex

Your statement is confusing., but whether you attended the interview or not is inconsequensial. As long as an application was submitted and refused. Then it's a YES.
Travel / Re: USA Visit Visa Part 2 by FrontPageLawyer(m): 6:31am On Feb 28, 2017
@Democrat4

Sorry for your ordeal, but I must tell you that the CBP officer was magnanimous not to have issued you an order of "expedited removal" because he/she has the authority to do so. The permission to withdraw your application for admission is a privilege and not a right.  It is solely within the discretion of the CBP officer.

Since you were allowed to voluntarily withdraw your application for admission which means you have not been banned and can re-apply at anytime even though it may raise concerns and questions by a consul. Be prepared to argue your case with your strong ties and hope for a visa officer that will be patient enough to listen to your stories at POE.

Why I won't blame your uncle is the lack of preparedness on your own part.

Did you call your "supposed host" a day to your arrival? Apparently you didn't, otherwise you should have been informed of their relocation and what have you. A hotel booking of less than 2 minutes would have been sufficient.

Why were you sent to secondary in the first instance? You must have given conflicting answers or CBP officer wasn't satisfied with your preliminary answers.

At secondary inspection; was there any incriminating messages found on your phone? What about your baggage? Any work document?

I need to ask because it is rear for a passenger with enough funds coming to the U.S on holiday be turned back at the ports.

You failed to prepare. Good luck reapplying

Why lose sleep over POE if your purpose of travel to the U.S is genuine? Use your energy to pray for journey mercies. Make use of "google" for the rest. All the best.

@Aibisoye0

As long as the visa has not expired or cancelled, you can always travel to the U.S regardless of the original purpose of travel. However, the visa does not guarantee you entry, but allows you travel to the port of entry and request permission to enter the United States. It is the sole responsibility of U.S. (CBP) officials to permit or deny admission and determine how long you may stay.

You can always contact GCI for the pick up of your fiancee's passport. Congratulations.

@lekanade273. You have positive answers to the very important questions. The burden of proof is on you to prove your employment, work experience and family ties which I believe is strong enough from your transcript. Give details answer to questions and focus explaining your intent in visiting the US and you'll get the visa.
