texazzpete: 1. The Nobel prize is a world prize. 2. Arms manufacturers are not labelled 'terrorists' in today's world. It's people who use those arms to slay innocent non-combatants (and their suppliers) that are tarred with the 'terrorist' brush. I'm not sure what your reference to China was about, because Chinese people have happily won the Nobel prize before. if you want Nigeria to be more like China, spend less time on online forums making snarky comments and more time reading your books. Plus, pressure your leaders to do more for education. It's not 'black pride' or 'self-appreciation' that will make Nigeria replicate the Chinese example. Fix your educational system, reduce corruption and eliminate this silly ethnic/tribal bias and we're halfway there. You seem to have misunderstood the overrall theme of the post you replied to. The Nobel prize is absolutely not a world prize. It is an European prize, occasionally given to non-Europeans just so to make it look more legit. Achebe knows that quite fine, saying: My position is that the Nobel Prize is important. But it is a European prize. It's not an African prize. So would you agree with me that your statement above makes your beloved country, the US of A, a terrorist country. As for your smart as.s remark regarding Nigeria's educational system, you have no right whatsover to make such a rude comment. It makes you look ignorant and silly. |

tensor777: Well definitely Seun needs to do something about this seemingly deranged fstranger guy. Yes it is not likely he could have carried out the murders in that he talks like a 15 year old and the ife modakeke civil disturbance ended all of 13 years ago when he purports that he was in secondary schoo,l making him now a fully grown man in his late twenties! However what he has posted is incitement to murder and genoicide and should ensure that he is promptly arrested and charged. I concur! |

And it is unforgivable. I take that ish personal. Point of correction . . . I am not a Nigerian! I am a confirmed citizen of Oodualand, an unapologetic follower of Awo, a chest thumping Igbo wife beater and an unrepentant Conqueror of the Biafrans. Best get that into your tiny brain. |

There is a difference between a mental fight and a physical one. The best fights are the ones you avoid because they've already been won psychologically. Yorubas have moved on from the archaic ways of fighting, comprising mainly of physical bloodsheds, to the 21st century method, comprising mostly of psychological warfare. After all, it also written in the bible that our fight is not against flesh and blood but against principalities and demons of all authorities and rankings. As our fight is targeted at demons and principalities, it is not easy to determine. |

rhymz: I like the divergent views expressed by many of the posters. I know my question is kind of derailing but I ve always wondered which of Wole Soyinka's books won him the nobel prize, unlike Achibe, I am not too familiar with many of Soyinka's works, just a few, the man died and some of his drama books. I mean he seems more like a political activist to me than a writer especially when one has to consider that he is a Nobel Laureat. Soyinka was given the prize after careful deliberation of his work based on the toatlity of the books he wrote prior to when he was awarded the prize. He is not a one book star like our neighbour to the East. And to those claiming that Achebe was the first to write from an African's view point, did Soyinka write from an Indian's perspective? Truth be told, Achebe is a great writer, obviously better then 99% of the rest of the world, but not good enough for a nobel prize. That is the truth! He will never win the prize. |

If they didn't fight for our defense, we would not be here today. That is why we will NEVER FORGET them and their sacrifice. That soldier looks like a chicken! |

My brother, Nothing is going to happen. Those imbeciles can't do anything. If they try to start something, I will personally lead a battalion to stop any trouble they may want to start.
It reminds me of secondary school where we used to beat some of the Igbos and during the Ife-Modakeke war, we killed some of them , and then lied to the cops that they were killed by the Modakekes. Up till today, Nothing has happened.

The East will forever remain the hotbed of hostility for the Nigerian State. Started by the Ndi Igbo, the mantle has been taken by the Ijaws. It is just a matter of time before we deal withyou thoroughly. |

DapoBear: ANC was able to do that because of an overwhelming black majority, as well as sympathetic neighboring countries. None of your African neighbors really supported you (for obvious reasons). Also, there was no huge majority you can hide in. It isn't as if there were Biafrans also in the North and Southwest populace, they were only in Igbo land.
Finally, in a place like Nigeria, if you try guerrilla warfare, they will just kill everyone in a village/town. Shoot first, ask questions later is the way this country works. That is fine. I want them all GONE. |

Successful guerrilla wars are as follows:[/b]Mao Zedong's People Liberation Army Fidel Castro and Che Guevara in the 26th of July Movement Irish Republican Army Frankly, I wish your coward father did. EzeUche0: Maybe we Igbos would stop being bitter if we were included in NATIONAL POLITICS. How can you ignore a people who make up the majority in a major region of the country? That doesn't make sense. Plus, it is COUNTER-PRODUCTIVE. Nigeria will never progress if this doesn't change.
If things don't change, Igbos will rise up again. Simple as that. And we will kill you guys again, simple as that. And don't count on our kindness, this time around we will make sure that there is no single Ibo left. |

Blazay: Where did you get that? I repeat, the Igbo are no different from the Yorubas in Nigerian history. Both pariahs. The"Huckleberry Finns" of Nigeria. Sociopaths and Psychopaths of Nigeria. Nothing wholesome or peaceful about either.
If Phillip is a fraud, is it by making noise on the internet you can get the "fraud" taken care of? When you have more heinous criminals in your home states?
If you all spent a tenth of your energies challenging the crooks you worship every Christmas and Ramdan seasons in your Nigerian villages in your typical cowardly and hypocritical fashions, Phillip Emeagwali should be the least of your problems.
MOST of you if not ALL have fraudulent JAMB and WEAC results cooked under Ojuelegba or Onitsha bridges. Some of you sleep with lectureres if not all for your degrees in Nigeria. Most of you, if not ALL of you pay someone to write your exams for you in Nigeria and abroad.
Bill Clinton and Gordon Bell have honoured him. If they are not complaining, why should you Nigerians complain when your EFCC cannot even look in your criminals directions? Please, take your poison to your Ekiti State and go catch Oni. The main fraud in your state. You should be talking. Tsk. Yours is obviously legit. |
