Kobojunkie:

But let's assume for one minute that this happened here i the United states(there are some reported cases of police brutality out there), would it make sense for ANYONE to act out in such a manner as this lady though? What do we know that has happened in the past to those who launched into a tirade of some sort when attacked by 'dirty' policemen even here in America? I think that is the question that has yet been answered here.

Why don't you stay on point with the focus of the topic. This is not America! THIS IS NAIJA, OUR OWN NIGERIA. Americans are pussies, let them do whatever they want. As far as I am concerned, she did the right thing, given the circumstance.

^^ We can't continue to leave everything to God. When are we going to take responsibility for our own action/inaction. Remember that, Bad people thrive when good people do not act. Leave God out of this matter, and let's begin to take matters in our hands!
Politics / Re: Sahara Reporters Interviews Fashola, Watch Video by fstranger: 6:09pm On Nov 21, 2010
I totally agree with your point. I thought you were referring to his voice. Yeah, Omoyele acted as if he were still the SGA president of UNILAG, not as a professional. And the whole mentioning of BBC was just unnecessary.I like how Fashola handled the whole thing. He answered the questions skillfully and he came across as the more honest person between the two.

Shock:

^^^
Your logic does not depict a well reasoned thought process and I'd tell you why.
First, this is totally not true, except of cos you are in the "paint-the-dog-black-just-to-hang-it" group. In all my experience in Lagos, i had no idea that public service groups such as :- Red cross, Search and Rescue, Fire emergency, First aid, Road safety, etc existed, not until the recent administration put in place a system that will ensure such groups function.
Besides that, Lagos about 10 years ago is a no go area for feeble minded individuals, thuggery, wallet snatching, public harassment, environmental pollution , etc, are carried out in the public with reckless abandon, all these things are now out-phased with a better and much more secured system in place.
Saying Fashola has only built few roads and done few cosmetic changes is totally unfair.
Again, this is a statement you can't substantiate.
Quite true Sowore asked the right questions, but his questions were directed in a rude manner that does not demonstrate any form of professionalism, his tone was coarse, and he let his emotions cloud his sense of judgement.

In as much as I am a strong advocate that all public holders are to be held accountable for funds entrusted in their care, the logic in your argument in quotes above, assumes that all revenues generated had been used in building toll gates and laying out flower beds. I find this line of thought quite pathetic and disturbing, something i wouldn't have expected from a well learned individual. I really don't know if i should be telling you this, but besides putting up infrastructures, the government invests and saves too.

What do you mean by "his voice was coarse." That is how he talks. What do you want him to do? Were you expecting him to talk like a Britico? Could you please clarify yourself?

I am not attacking anybody, I don't know you and you did not gbensh my baby-mama.
I am just bothered about the quality of graduates Nigerain universities are churning out. Very few reach what should be attainable or expected.
Later some will come on places like NL and wonder why companies operating in Nigeria prefer to bring in an expat or even a repat for a role the grad believes (s)he can do and should be, as priority, considered for because they are local.
Little self-presentations like I have highlighted that have turned into embedded habits, AND which I have seen frequently (at a worse level) with Nigerian grads, counts against most and makes some unemployable or less attractive as an employment potential.
Personally, I would not hire circa 95% of Nigerian grads.
If una like make una listen, if una like don't listen, be defiant, e no be my problem, we are not related, na una wahala!
I understand your point. and I totally agree with you. However, the problem is not with this poster. The problem is with the system. The system failed us all. The way you presented your argue was totally uncalled for; It seemed like you were attcking the poster's person for something he knows nothing about. This poster, like many a Nigerian graduate, are half-baked and lacked basic writing skills. If you understand the system a little, you would not have gone about your criticisms the way you did. Most Nigerian graduates are product of the dilapidated public school system, and most, though very hardworking, are not up to par with their foreign counterparts. The point is that, there is no evil in trying to correct people, but be a lil more compassionate in how you go about it.

ROFLMAO!!! Now it is YOUTUBE that is making up lies about Lagos?? ROFLMAO!!!

So, you are here trying to tell me that EVERY SINGLE THIEF is BURNT ALIVE in Lagos? Cut the bull dude . . . . You know that is not true. There are many more not set ablaze for stealing in that same Lagos. I have witnessed the treatment of thieves in my years and I can tell you for a fact that you have on that video is REALITY in Lagos. For sure it makes sense that the men would not want to set the thief on fire or beat him to a bloody pulp while the camera's are running but the camera's were not running in the court for the case in question. So I don't see how you can claim that did not happen either.

Well, what more can I say. If you believe the outcome of the court case on Welcome to Lagos , and  you think that the same situation in real life would generate the same outcome, then I have a land to sell to you in Asorock. As a matter of fact, I can sell the whole of Asorock to you, if you can meet my asking price.

Hold on . . . . now you claim folks cannot afford Lawyers? WOW !!!!

uumm . . . in the Show "WELCOME TO LAGOS", how did those men afford the lawyers they got? If Garbage pickers can afford to get themselves lawyers, how much more so the average person living in the same Lagos? Gosh people!!!

Stop believing everything you see on youtube. Welcome To Lagos is nothing more than an entertainment show. It does not represent reality. In "Welcome To Lagos," a thief was caught redhanded and was let go with just a slap in the wrist, how real? Every thief that was caught on my street in Shomolu, including a female thief who stole a worn out wrapper, was set ablaze. My point: Don't believe everything you see on youtube. There is no system in Lagos. You better accept that now  before you fall victim.

Kobojunkie:

Sadly for you, I grew up in that same Lagos. The worst treatment I have ever gotten was from a molue conductor who picked my pocket and denied when I confronted him. I am sorry, it is the same Lagos and the same sun that shines on everyone in Lagos that shone on me all the decades I had growing up there and learning of how the system and the people are in collusion to make sure everything comes to ruin. I have had my run ins with the law and the one time I almost got locked up for fighting with a neighbour only I stood my ground and only had to explain my case to the Police head -- was later allowed to go since the man agreed that I was not the cause, nor was I at fault, and I was never bothered again on the issue.
Ever wonder how those ajebos and middle class folks live and work in the same Lagos and never get hit or maltreated by the danfo drivers, police et all? Or are you going to tell me they do not live in the same Lagos?

Stop saying system, there is no system in Lagos, or in Nigeria for that matter. Well, the case you sited is an isolated situation. And moreover, it really does not count because the "n" of cases like that is 1, making generalisation difficult. However, there are numerous cases of police brutality and it is collective knowledge that in whatever sutuation you find yourself, you have a better chance of getting off, scot-free, irrespective of your level of complicity, if you show some craziness. It is the way things work in Nigeria, not just on the street, but also at the very top, includinng at the NASS and Asorock ( remember how Turai held us all hostage with her shakara? )!
