Femi Falana, has lashed out at the Department of State Services (DSS) over its statement in which it denied invading a trial court to rearrest Omoyele Sowore, Igbere TV reports. Recall that the DSS alleged that the #RevolutionNow convener violated his bail conditions hence his rearrest. The secret police who insisted that they are a law-abiding agency, also claimed that Sowore's supporters “stage-managed the drama” in the Federal High Court to bring the service to disrepute. Reacting to DSS' statement on his client's rearrest, Femi Falana wondered why head of the DSS team apologized to the presiding judge Ijeoma Ojukwu when asked to justify invasion of the court, Igbere TV reports. The human rights activist who further claimed that some of the DSS operatives disguised in lawyer’s outfit were inside the courtroom, averred that the head of the DSS team offered an apology before he was asked to withdraw his men from the courtroom. “As soon as the case was adjourned the SSS pounced on Sowore and caused a disruption of the proceedings of the court. Having taken over the court room vi et armis Justice Ojukwu hurriedly rose and asked the Registrar to adjourn all other cases. After the learned trial judge had risen for the day she summoned the heads of the prosecution and defence teams to her chambers,” Falana said. “When the lead prosecutor, Dr. Liman Hassan SAN denied knowledge of the invasion of her court she directed him to invite the head of the SSS team in the court. When challenged to justify the invasion of the court the officer could not. He apologised to Justice Ojukwu on behalf of the SSS. The judge then directed the officer to withdraw the SSS operatives from the courtroom. The directive was complied with as the operatives withdrew from the courtroom but rushed out to join their colleagues who had taken over the entire court house. “Though, ordinarily, officers of the Service do not wear any uniform, on the 6th day of December, some of them were in mufti, many were not only armed but also masked while others disguised in lawyer’s black and white suit. Regardless of the form of appearance, the officers of the Service inside Court No. 7 were identifiable by their roles and acts of seizing Sowore and pinning him down.” According to Falana the DSS operatives who couldn't provide a warrant of arrest also failed to inform the trial court that his client violated his bail conditions. He also described the arrest as illegal. “Before submitting himself for arrest Sowore had rightly demanded for a warrant of arrest and detention order but the sss operatives were unable to produce either,” he said. “In rationalizing the re-arrest of Sowore, which is denied in the same Press statement, the Serivce alleged that Sowore held metings with some people. Assuming without conceding that Sowore held meetings with some people in Transcorp Hotel as alleged by the sss, why did the Prosecution not inform the trial court that the defendant had breached his bail condition?" http://igberetvnews.com/1184348/sowore-falana-replies-sss-gives-full-details-court-invasion/

A member representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, Mr Tajudeen Adefisoye has condemned the setting ablaze of the secretariat of the Social Democratic Party in Lokoja, Kogi State Capital, by suspected political thugs. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Oluyemi Fasipe on Monday in Akure, Adefisoye condemned the incessant attacks on SDP Secretariat and its members in Kogi. He said that barely five days to the governorship election in the state in the early hours of Monday, unknown hoodlums set the SDP secretariat in Lokoja on fire. The lawmaker, who is the only SDP member in the National Assembly, rued the culture of political intolerance and ‘do or die’ brand of politics being practised in Kogi State and said this should be condemned by every right-thinking Nigerian, Igbere TV reports. “This attack on our party secretariat and members of the party in Lokoja is condemnable and those in charge of the state’s security architecture must get to the root of it. “This same secretariat was attacked on Sunday and its doors and windows were shattered, while campaign materials, posters and banners were also destroyed. “It is most unfortunate that the failure of security agents to act was what emboldened the political thugs to set the whole secretariat ablaze early on Monday morning. “We are only preparing for an election and not a war. Those trying to create an atmosphere of war in the run-up to the Nov. 16 governorship election in Kogi State should be reined in as a matter of urgency,” he said. Meanwhile, Adefisoye urged all the supporters of SDP gubernatorial candidate in Kogi State, Mrs Natasha Akpoti to remain law-abiding and not to contemplate avenging the attacks so far launched on the party by sponsored political thugs. http://igberetvnews.com/1128106/kogi-2019-hoodlums-set-sdp-secretariat-lokoja-fire-reps-member-furious/

The Economic and Finance Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it will extend its investigation to doctors that issue fake medical reports to those facing prosecution for alleged economic and financial crimes. Acting Chairman of the commission, Mr Ibrahim Magu, disclosed this at an interactive session with newsmen in Abuja on Friday, Igbere TV reports. “We will extend our investigation to doctors who connive with criminals and give them a fake medical report. We have to go after them and fight them. “Those facing corrupt allegations go as far as getting fake reports from abroad. So, the practice of giving fake medical report must stop,” Magu, who also said that most of the corruption cases were not properly reported during prosecution, urged journalists to help in fighting corruption in the country. “Most of the cases during prosecution are not properly reported. The stories are not balanced. I don’t know how many people go to court to report the actual incident and the facts. “That is why we have endless cases in court. We are seriously going back to the drawing board and we will call all the lawyers handling our cases to tell us the status of the cases ongoing. “Some would win senate and present serial medical results that they can not appear in court. Some would be brought to the courtroom in a stretcher,” he added. He, however, added that the commission was carrying out investigations into some Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) operating in the North-East as they were being used to move cash around. http://igberetvnews.com/1105186/efcc-targets-doctors-issuing-fake-medical-reports/
