A young Nigerian lawyer, Bar. Esther Chukwuemeka went viral after a post of her being called to Bar at a tender age.
Bar. Esther, earlier described as the country’s youngest, who was called to the Bar on Thursday, has reacted to controversies surrounding her real age.
Reports had claimed that the young girl who graduated from an Indian university was called to the bar at the age of 20 years.
However, Esther, who reacted to the claim said in a chat with BBC Pidgin that she is actually 24 years and not 20 as widely reported in the media.
The girl, who hails from Okigwe in Imo State, finished her secondary school at the age of 15 and not 13 as earlier reported.
She said; “Hello good morning. My name is Esther Ebuna Owadike. But call me Bar. Esther Ebuna Owadike. I really thank God for the journey so far. I thank God for bringing to this point.
“ I really appreciate everyone who has reached me. I started my journey in secondary school at age 9. I completed the journey at age 15, not 13, contrary to what is out there online. Also, I got admission to study Political Science at Abia State University, Uturu, I think at age 16 or so. That was after I couldn’t get in immediately. I applied to study law, but I got Political Science.”
On how she proceeded to India to study law, the lawyer added: “I did start, I started the school, but during the process, my director, Pastor Vid Ogu suggested to my parents that we work my admission to study law in India which my parents considered and we pursued the entire process.
“That was how I left to study law in India at age of 17. I had to start all over again. I had already spent one year in ABSU. So I had to start again from first year in India. That is it.
“I spent five years in India and came back in 2019 for my Bar part one and because of the COVID-19, we couldn’t complete the entire law school. So, God is helping us, all of us. We finished this time and that is how my journey has been all the while.”
Esther tendered an apology to Nigerians for the misinformation about her age and academic pursuits.
“I really like to apologise for the false information out there. It was not intended to mislead the public. It was a message. It was a congratulatory message that was put out due to excitement and I also thank the person that put it out.
“However, it happened that the facts are not entirely correct. Thank you everyone. I really appreciate everything. I am still your small, little Esther. I am still your girl that looks even 15, 16, or 18.
“However, I am not 20 years. I am 24. Although I look 15, 16, or 18 name it. Thank you so much. Thank you everyone. I really appreciate it,” she concluded.

10-year-old girl who was repeatedly raped by her aunt's husband for three years has died
A 10-year-old girl in Baringo, Kenya, who was allegedly raped by her aunt's husband for three years, has died.
The standard three pupil succumbed to the injuries at Sunrise Children’s home in Kabarnet in Baringo Central. The suspect, Haron Cherono,60, is on the run.
"The child was brought to our institution two months ago but little did we know her health was in critical condition,” the home’s manager, Titus Barmasa, said on Friday, July 30.
He said the family didn’t provide them with the girl’s medical report, which would have helped them arrange for specialised treatment.
Barmasai said at midnight the girl asked for someone to hold her stomach. She also asked to be given water, mangoes and soda before she collapsed and died on June 24.
Until her death, the girl had a swollen head, face and limbs. She had lost her appetite and couldn't walk.
She was allegedly defiled numerous times by her aunt's husband at their home in Baringo North subcounty since 2019.
"My uncle used to drag me every evening around 7pm to 8pm into his bedroom while my auntie was still in her shop at the centre,” the girl had said.
She said her uncle threatened to kill her if she dared to speak about the rapes.
"He didn’t even care when I screamed in pain or bled.” she said.
Two months ago, the sickness forced the girl to run away from her auntie’s home. She lived in the brush for about a week, eating wild fruits. Villagers who hunted for her found her hungry and weak.
The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret reported on June 14 that the girl suffered intensive uterus, kidney and liver damage. It linked the girl's death to viral infections which weren’t noticed and treated early.
Baringo North OCPD Fredrick Odinga said the suspect, Haron Cherono, is still on the run but they are pursuing him to arrest him and charge him with murder.
"He can run but he can't hide, we will finally capture him from his hideouts,” Odinga said.
He said the suspect’s wife has been arrested and is in police custody. She is to be arraigned in court on Monday for harbouring a criminal, he said.
However,she had earlier told the media she was innocent and that she has never known her husband could do such evil things.
"If it is true, then I don’t have any control over it, just let the law take its course” she said.
Family members pleaded for justice, saying the government should fast-track investigation and arrest the suspect.
"As a family we are not going to bury our daughter until the culprit(s) are brought to book," one of them said.
Her head teacher Alexander Tando said he had noticed the girl’s sickly appearance and and gloomy behaviour before she mysteriously went missing.
Tando said when he joined the school last year, the girl was healthy, jovial, disciplined and hardworking.

Hushpuppi Scandal: Abba Kyari Assembles Team Of lawyers, Threatens To Expose Other Police Officers If Extradited Embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, on Friday assembled a team of lawyers to fight off his looming arrest and extradition by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States, which appears to be hell bent in returning with the alleged fraudulent officer.
SaharaReporters learnt that Kyari is also lobbying the Nigeria Police Force starting with the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, and threatening to expose other top police officers who have benefitted from his largesse, should he be handed over to the FBI and extradited.
SaharaReporters gathered that Kyari, whose links with serial internet fraudster, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, alias Hushpuppi, were becoming too evident to deny, warned that he would expose the “dirty jobs” he had done for past and present Inspector-Generals of Polcie as well as some political elites in the country, if they did nothing to stop his extradition.
“There was a stormy meeting on Friday at the Inspector-General of Police’s office between the IGP and police authorities and the FBI agents. Kyari on his part is threatening that many senior officers benefited from his ‘generosity’ and if he’s betrayed, he would expose them.
“He’s now got a team of lawyers. Abba Kyari is still being assured by the police hierarchy that he would not be extradited to the US. He has warned that if he is extradited, the current and past IGPs and members of the political elites he provided support for and assisted for dirty jobs will all be exposed.”
SaharaReporters also reported exclusively that Kyari was given till next week to formally respond to the allegations till his extradition to the US would be decided by the police authorities.
SaharaReporters since Thursday in several reports on Kyari exposed how Hushpuppi claimed to have offered bribes to the top police officer, going by court documents that were ordered unsealed.
The United States Attorney’s Office, Central District of California, had also issued an arrest warrant against Kyari for his alleged links to Hushpuppi, who is standing trial for various offences that include internet fraud and money laundering.
The court documents also outlined a dispute among members of the Hushpuppi conspiracy, which allegedly prompted him to arrange to have an individual identified as ‘co-conspirator’ Kelly Chibuzor Vincent, jailed in Nigeria by DCP Kyari.
According to the affidavit, “Kyari is a highly decorated deputy commissioner of the Nigeria Police Force who is alleged to have arranged for Vincent to be arrested and jailed at Abbas’ behest, and then sent Abbas photographs of Vincent after his arrest.
“Kyari also allegedly sent Abbas bank account details for an account into which Abbas could deposit payment for Vincent’s arrest and imprisonment.”
The Inspector-General of Police has ordered an internal review of the United States’ authorities’ allegations against Kyari.
Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri has stated that it will be very hard for the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari to deny the charges labeled against him by US authorities.
The former presidential aide said after going through the phone numbers listed in the FBI’s affidavit on TrueCaller, he doubts the accused officer would be able to deny the charges labeled against him.
His statement reads;

A child will go to school by 7am and close by 5pm for five days out of the seven days in a week.
During weekends that child comes home with many assignments in all the subjects he or she is offering in school and at such, there won’t be time to rest and play at the weekends.
The child does that for almost four months hoping to enjoy the holidays only for the school (in collaboration with the parents) to come up with an unnecessary activities in the name of holidays lesson.
What exactly do you want to teach that child again at this period? Is it what he or she learnt in the just concluded session or what they will learn next term?
Dear Nigerian parents, summer holiday is a period you allow a child to experience other things in life apart from formal education.
Allow them to travel for the vacation and if you do not have money for that, take them to places where they will learn new skills.
Holiday is a time for rest not a time for learning.
