Obinoscopy: We have a section for that: https://www.nairaland.com/crimeWe are talking about making it a board that appears on the home page like others, not a sub-section under politics as is presently the case. Crime is way too important and rampant to be squeezed under the politics board. |
Jezreel1759: Thnks..... What about the word "house" is "H" not silent enough to say "an house"?The 'h' in 'house' is not silent. |
Boss13: Why do I get the feeling that you belong to the group of women who do not respect the emotions of their men. They hurl insults at them and provoke them at the slightest chance. Any woman who insults her man is a WITCHShe's a WITCH! |
gree-die:I'm very sure you dont know me...would have severely dealt with you on this forum if not for Becacia_Barbie... |

Going by the crime rate in Nigeria which has reached epidemic proportions, I strongly believe that Nairaland needs a board dedicated only to crime to help expose and fight crime. Nigeria is infested with such crimes as kidnapping, murder, embezzlement, religious and ethnic clashes, fraud, etc etc. And Nairaland, being the website with the largest followership in Nigeria, has the clout to expose and curb crime in Nigeria. This way Nairaland would be immensely contributing to fighting crime, apprehending criminals and laundering the image of Nigeria. In fact, such noble gesture will help win Nairaland awards and could make Seun Osewa a recipient of a national award such as MON or OON. What is your take on this? |

A physically–challenged barber, who abducted his mother, Mrs. Kate Emienor, in Benin City, Edo State and detained her for 10 days at a hideout in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, while demanding N20 million ransom to secure her freedom , has been nabbed by the police. Commissioner of Police, Delta State, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, who confirmed the incident, yesterday, said, “It is true, both the son and mother that was kidnapped are in our custody.” Sunday Vanguard learnt that the barber, suspected to be a hardened criminal, allegedly abducted her mother, February 5, in Benin City, where he operated a barbing salon, and whisked her to a hideout in Ogwashi-Uku. He reportedly alerted his elder brother, based overseas, that their mother was kidnapped and the abductors were demanding N20 million ransom to release her. The ransom was later reduced to N10 million when his brother could not raise the N20 million. Meanwhile, unknown to the son, the police were alerted about the purported kidnap and they put in place strategies to track the abductors. Sunday Vanguard gathered that the suspect might have brainwashed his mother into agreeing to be abducted in order to obtain money from her son living outside the country. Aduba, who expressed concern about the involvement of family members and insiders in kidnapping, said, “The suspect who arranged the purported kidnap of his mother was busy holding meetings with other members of the family on how to release their mother, whereas, he was responsible for the abduction.” The police boss disclosed that the suspect held a meeting with other members of the family 24 hours before he was arrested at about 4.00 pm on February 15, adding that no ransom was paid to rescue Mrs. Emienor. According to Aduba, “Recently, a so-called human rights activist and lawyer was nabbed pants down trying to pervert the course of justice shamelessly in Warri. “His game of blackmailing notwithstanding, let him prove his innocence in court, not before native doctors cum spiritualists. A police source told Sunday Vanguard, last night, “It is likely the suspect will be charged to court for the kidnap of his mother, but the mother will be used as a key witness since it was obvious she fell for the trap.” www.vanguardngr.com/2013/02/physically-challenged-son-kidnaps-mother/ |

When our correspondent volunteered a “hello,” the devotee jerked in shock. Quickly recovering his composure, he scrutinised our correspondent with a suspicious glare. “Have you switched off your phones? Before you enter this place, you must switch off your phones just as I have done to mine. If you have not done that, please go back outside the gate to switch them off before you enter again. This is the house of God where there must be silence,” he blurted. And when our correspondent offered to put off the phones without necessarily going out, the devotee, who looked every inch like the church founder with the characteristic goatee and clean shaven head, stood askance. His reaction showed that he was not used to people questioning his authority inside the church and at this point, he demanded to know the mission of the visitor to the church at that hour of the day. Dressed in a shirt and a pair of trousers, the devotee had a laminated image of Rev. King hanging on his tie. “Who are you and why did you come here at this time?” he asked while eyeing our correspondent with suspicion. Our correspondent told him he came in connection with the programme on their banner. But he was not amused and by this time, he had come closer to where our correspondent stood, scrutinising him all over again. “The programme is tomorrow night and I don’t understand why you are here today. Who are you?” he said, sounding impatient. “Well, I just heard about the programme but I was not properly briefed about the time and date. Anyway, are journalists not invited to the programme?” The response was meant to flatter the CPA devotee, but he was totally unsettled to learn that a journalist had walked into the church auditorium uninvited. He shot back, “You are looking for what you want to write again, abi? Why are you people not tired of looking for what does not concern you? So you are one of those writing rubbish about a man of God, things you don’t know anything about? “I want you to retrace your step because of the consequences of writing about our man of God. Ask those who wrote against him over the years, where are they today? I advise you to desist because by the time the consequences come, people would not know what you have done just to sell your paper.” Even though he looked unhappy, he made efforts to mask his feelings and engaged our correspondent in a sermon on why all those ‘who have written and have not stopped writing about the man of God would soon know the result of their action. “For you to write anything about our father, Rev. King, you must have been a member of CPA for at least 10 years. That is the minimum for you to be able to know the great man,” he stated. When he was asked whether Rev King was not capable of freeing himself from death row in Katsina Prisons, he countered by asking our correspondent why Jesus did not do so when he too was persecuted more than 2000 years ago. “About 2000 years ago, Jesus Christ was persecuted, but today Jesus Christ is the lord of the world. Where are his persecutors today? “That is why I am warning you seriously to stop writing on what you know and what you don’t know about Rev. King. You know that he has not said anything and if he has not told you anything, what then do you want to write about him?” he thundered. By this time, he had motioned to our correspondent to walk with him out of the auditorium towards the gate. As they walked to the gate, he was asked whether Thursday’s vigil was CPA’s way of celebrating St. Valentine’s Day. He snapped, “We don’t celebrate Valentine. We are not like any other church. The worst sins will be committed tomorrow in the name of Valentine. We are not part of that. This is a holy land, we worship the true God here through our father, Rev. King. “We did not choose the date of the programme, it was the Holy Spirit that chose the date. Just come tomorrow and witness healing.” He boasted that Rev. King would be part of the congregation during the vigil. “Rev. King will be here physically and spiritually. Just come and see for yourself. All you people write about the man of God is rubbish, but I have warned you against the consequences of such action. “Because of what you write, I don’t read papers again; just to sell your paper, you write what you don’t know about Rev. King. Repent, I tell you, repent before it is too late.” When our correspondent said he doubted the church’s claim of a ‘complete cure for HIV/AIDS,’ the devotee, who refused to give his name, said he was not surprised. “HIV/AIDS is the least of what we do here. To Rev. King, what is AIDS or HIV? But because you don’t want the truth, how will you believe? You are only interested in what to write against my father.” Even though he took it as a compliment when he was told that he looked like Rev. King, he however threw it back to our correspondent. “Don’t you look like your own father? I told you that Rev. King is my father, so why are you still asking for my name? I know that when you leave this place, you are going to write again but don’t say I did not warn you, stop writing against Rev. King.” At that point, our correspondent thanked him and left the church. www.punchng.com/feature/saturday-people/our-father-will-hold-fellowship-with-us-rev-king-devotee/ |
Andrew Harvey, the British husband of the late singer and ex- Big Brother Africa housemate, Goldie, has said he had no problems with his late wife’s lifestyle, adding that he even encouraged her to be controversial because it is “marketable.” Andrew told SUNDAY PUNCH during an online interview that his marriage to the singer was a happy one and they had only recently decided to have children together. Asked if he agreed with Goldie’s controversial behaviour at the BBA house, he said, “We (Goldie and I) knew the pitfalls of the show and understood the game strategy. I think she did very well, I said ‘make controversy because people love it.’” Andrew, who is an engineer and has been married to the deceased since 2005, said he decided to stay in the shadows because of the nature of his job. He said he encouraged Goldie’s lifestyle and wanted her to be happy at all times, adding that he didn’t want to stop her from fulfilling her dreams. Andrew said he and Goldie had dreams of growing old together and was sad that this was no longer possible. “Goldie and I preferred this way (secrecy) because I did not want media attention because of my work. I had no disagreement with her lifestyle and I encouraged her to follow her dreams. We often joked about being together like a pair of old slippers “I did not want her to say ‘if only’ when we were wearing those slippers. That was why I encouraged her to live her dreams,” he said. Andrew, who is an expatriate in Nigeria, denied reports in some quarters that his wife died as a result of substance abuse. He said Goldie had never been involved in hard drug. Asked about their long-term goals together, Andrew said Goldie’s demise was very painful because they had agreed last Christmas to have children together. He said apart from their personal goals, they had planned to set up a charity organisation which would cater for the less privileged. “We planned to set up a Non- governmental Organisation to help the less fortunate achieve their potential,” he said. www.punchng.com/news/i-asked-goldie-to-be-controversial-hubby/ |
