Family / Miscarriage: Signs, Causes, And Treatment by gabonsky: 12:28pm On Jun 28, 2017
What is a miscarriage?
A miscarriage is an event that results in the loss of a fetus during early pregnancy. It’s also called a spontaneous abortion. It typically happens during the first trimester, or first three months, of the pregnancy. According to the American Pregnancy Association (APA), 10 to 25 percent of all clinically recognized pregnancies end in miscarriage.

The cause of a miscarriage varies from person to person. Often the cause is unknown. Miscarriages that occur after three months, or between 14 to 26 weeks, are usually due to an underlying health condition in the mother.

Signs and symptoms of a miscarriage
The symptoms of a miscarriage vary, depending on your stage of pregnancy. In some cases, it happens so quickly that you may not even know you’re pregnant before you miscarry.

Here are some of the symptoms of a miscarriage:

mild to severe back pain
heavy spotting
vaginal bleeding
expulsion of tissue with clots from your vagina
severe abdominal pain
cramps

Call your doctor right away if you experience any of these symptoms during your pregnancy. It’s also possible to have these symptoms without experiencing a miscarriage. But your doctor will want to conduct tests to make sure that everything is fine.

Types of miscarriage
There are many different types of miscarriage. Depending on the cause of your miscarriage and stage of your pregnancy, your doctor will classify your condition as a:

blighted ovum, where a fertilized egg implants into your uterine wall, but fetal development never begins
complete miscarriage, where the products of conception are expelled from your body
incomplete miscarriage, where the membranes are ruptured, and your cervix is dilated or thinned
missed miscarriage, where the embryo dies without your knowledge, and you don’t deliver it
recurrent miscarriage, where you’ve had three or more consecutive first-trimester miscarriages
ectopic miscarriage, where an egg implants somewhere other than your uterus, usually in your fallopian tubes
threatened miscarriage, where bleeding and cramps point to a possible upcoming miscarriage.

Causes of miscarriage
During pregnancy, your body supplies hormones and nutrients to your developing fetus. This helps your fetus develop normally during your pregnancy. Most first trimester miscarriages happen because the fetus doesn’t develop normally. There are different factors that can cause this.

Genetic or chromosome issues
About 50 percent of miscarriages are due to chromosome issues. Errors occur randomly when the cells of the embryo divide, or are due to a damaged egg or sperm cell. Problems with the placenta can also lead to a miscarriage.

Examples of these chromosome abnormalities include:

intrauterine fetal demise: The embryo forms but stops developing before you see or feel symptoms of pregnancy loss.
blighted ovum: No embryo forms at all.
molar pregnancy: Molar pregnancies are rare. There is usually an abnormal placenta growth, but since both sets of chromosomes come from the father, no fetal development occurs.
partial molar pregnancy: This happens when the mother’s chromosomes remains, but the father has also provided two sets of chromosomes. This causes placenta abnormalities and an abnormal fetus.

External health conditions
External health conditions, lifestyle habits, and underlying conditions may also interfere with the fetus’ development, especially in the second trimester. Exercise and sexual intercourse do not cause miscarriages. Working won’t affect the fetus either unless you’re exposed to harmful chemicals or radiation.

Conditions that can interfere with a fetus’ development include:

poor diet, or malnutrition
drug and alcohol use
advanced maternal age
untreated thyroid disease
uncontrolled diabetes
infections
trauma
obesity
problems with the cervix
abnormally shaped womb
severe high blood pressure
food poisoning
certain medications.

Always check with your doctor before taking any medications to be sure a drug is safe to use during pregnancy.

Risk factors
Most miscarriages are due to natural and unpreventable causes. However, certain risk factors can increase your chances of having a miscarriage. These include:

body trauma
radiation exposure
drug use
alcohol abuse
excessive caffeine consumption
smoking
previous miscarriage
being underweight or overweight
chronic, uncontrolled conditions, like diabetes

Being at an older age can also affect your risk for miscarriages.
Age Risk of having a miscarriage
under 30 years of age 1 in 10
35 to 39 years of age 2 in 10
over 45 years of age more than half.

Having one miscarriage doesn’t increase your risk for having other miscarriages. Only one in 100 women experience three or more miscarriages in a row. Over 60 percent of these women also go on to carry a baby to full-term.

Preventing miscarriages
Not all miscarriages can be prevented, but having a miscarriage doesn’t mean you won’t conceive again in the future. According to the Mayo Clinic, only a small number of women have two or more miscarriages. Most women who miscarry have healthy pregnancies later.

Some recommendations for a healthy pregnancy include:

Avoid alcohol, drugs, and smoking while pregnant.
Engage in light regular exercise to improve fetal health.
Maintain a healthy weight before and during pregnancy.
Avoid infections. Wash your hands thoroughly and stay away from people who are already sick.
Limit the amount of caffeine to no more than 200 milligrams per day.
Take prenatal vitamins to help ensure that you and your developing fetus get enough nutrients.
Eat a healthy, well-balanced diet with lots of fruits and vegetables.

Recovering from a miscarriage
Your body’s recovery will depend on how far along your pregnancy was before the miscarriage. After a miscarriage, you might experience the following symptoms:

vaginal bleeding like a menstrual period or spotting
lower abdominal pain or cramps
discomfort or engorgement in the breast.

While pregnancy hormones might last in the blood for a couple months after a miscarriage, you should start having normal periods again in three to six weeks. You can resume your normal activities as soon as you feel ready to do so. Listen to your body. It’s important that you give yourself time to heal physically and emotionally.

Miscarriage support
It’s normal to experience a range of emotions after a miscarriage. You may also experience the following symptoms:

trouble sleeping
loss of appetite
restlessness
low energy
frequent crying

These symptoms may become serious and get worse without treatment.

You may also want to consider the following:

Reach out for help if you are overwhelmed. Your family and friends may not understand how you’re feeling, so let them know how they can help. Even helping with housework, cooking, or child care may be helpful.
Read literature about miscarriage and bereavement.
Store away any baby memorabilia, maternity clothing, and baby items until you are ready to see them again may help with your recovery.

Take your time to grieve for your loss, but also remember that support is all around you. You can also seek counseling from a therapist. Grief counselors can help you cope with feelings of depression, loss, or guilt. Online support forums and chat rooms can be helpful for women who want to talk about their miscarriage with others who have been through the same situation.

Getting pregnant again
You may want to ask your doctor to help you develop a conception plan before you try to get pregnant again. Being as healthy as possible can help you prepare for a pregnancy and lower your risk of another miscarriage.

Your doctor will likely recommend tests to detect any problems that may have caused your previous miscarriage. These may include:

blood tests to detect hormone imbalances
chromosome tests, using blood or tissue samples
pelvic and uterine exams
ultrasounds

Your doctor may recommend that you wait several months before getting pregnant again. Depending on your health, your doctor may also require periodic testing throughout your pregnancy.

Remember that most miscarriages are out of your control. Healing doesn’t mean you have to forget about what happened. A symbolic gesture may also help with the experience. Some women plant a tree, or wear a special piece of jewelry.

Car Talk / 2018 Maserati Granturismo Bows With Alfieri-inspired Facelift by gabonsky: 11:00am On Jun 28, 2017
Maserati CEO Reid Bigland recently revealed the company has extended the lifecycle of the GranTurismo and the automaker has just unveiled a minor facelift for the aging model

Shown at the New York Stock Exchange, the 2018 GranTurismo will be available in Sport and MC (Maserati Corse) trims.

Both models gain a number of minor styling tweaks including a new "sharknose" grille which draws inspiration from the Alfieri concept. Additional changes are limited but there are larger air intakes and a modified rear bumper.

Thankfully the interior hasn't been overlooked as Maserati installed revised switchgear and a new central console with a "double rotary knob" that is made of forged aluminum. Other highlights include a new Harman Kardon audio system and an 8.4-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

Power is provided by a naturally-aspirated 4.7-liter V8 engine that is hand-built by Ferrari and produces 460 PS (338 kW) and 520 Nm (383 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission which enables the GranTurismo Sport to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.8 seconds before topping out at 299 km/h (185 mph). The slightly lighter GranTurismo MC completes the same task in 4.7 seconds while its top speed is 301 km/h (187 mph).

Avoid the roadside foods like noodles, panipuri, chaats etc. as it is mostly contaminated and can completely damage the liver.

However, always remember do not eat anything outside for 1-2 months post jaundice. Also, if you see that the symptoms do not subside post 2 weeks, consult a doctor immediately and take medicines.

Career / 10 Things You Must Do Before Quitting Your Job To Start Your Company by gabonsky: 7:44pm On Jun 26, 2017
You have a dream but you need a checklist to achieve it.

So you've decided you're ready to take the plunge, quit your job, and get your own company up and running. You have an amazing ">business idea you are ready to launch. You're probably excited and nervous at the same time, which is perfectly understandable. If this is the case, you need to take a step back and remember that you simply can't walk into work tomorrow with your resignation letter.

Being impulsive could be a huge mistake so you need to create a list of the advantages and disadvantages you will face when quitting your job. If you decide it's still what you want to do, there are a few things you must put in place before you quit.

To help you get ready before your big day of freedom, I've highlighted 10 things you should do before quitting your job and starting your own company.

1. Do research.
Quitting your current job before getting your company off the ground may seem like the best option, but trust me, it's not. The best way for you to get the wheels rolling in a safe and profitable way is to grow your business while you are still employed. This will make your transition from an employee to an entrepreneur a little smoother.

You can't jump head first into building your new office block or warehouse if you haven't done your research. You need to know that you have a product or service that you know the ins and outs of, that is unique, and above all, that will sell.

Background research you need to do includes, but is not limited to:

Learning everything about your product or service
Knowing your audience and buyer personas
Researching your competitors
Finding the right teams
Knowing what your most profitable sales and marketing channels will be.

2. Create a business plan.
Once you've done your research, you need to put it on paper. Laying out a business plan before taking the plunge will be a key success driver. Your business plan will be something you will show to potential investors, partners, and other company stakeholders. It typically includes:

An overview
An executive summary
A company description
Your objectives, vision, and mission statement
Information about the market and industry into which you are entering
The strategy you are going to follow to enter the market
The team you will have
A marketing plan
An operational plan
A financial plan
An appendix with more detailed information

3. Outline Your Funding Options
Before looking at funding for your company, you need to have your own personal finances in check. If you quit with just a couple of hundred dollars in your pocket, with rent, insurance, and your phone bill to pay, you may find it difficult to focus your efforts on your new company.
In addition to planning your personal finances, you will need to have a plan for your startup. You'll typically have three options:

One or multiple investors
Your personal savings
A grant or award for your project

Either way, you need to plan in advance because if you can't get the capital to get started, your business will stagnate and you will be faced with very few options.

4. Create the structure for your business.
You need to have the structure for your startup in place before you can quit your job, specifically, your legal structure. There are various types of businesses entities you could become:

A corporation
A limited liability company
A partnership
Sole proprietorship

You need to consider:

The operational complexity
Liability
Taxes
Control
Capital
Licenses, permits and regulations

5. Leverage your resources.
Of course, you do not want to spend money if you can avoid it. You need to look at the resources that are currently available to you. For example, you may have a friend who is a web developer; they might be able to give you special rates and work for you on a need-to-know basis.

You should contact friends who have started their own business and ask them if they know a good accountant, marketing expert, and so on. Think about joining an online book club to learn more about entrepreneurship, try Read with Entrepreneurs by Cynthia Johnson.

Lastly, contracting all your experts could become expensive. Consider investing in online education for your team that will teach them skills, such as SEO, email marketing, and much more.

6. Leave on a good note.
Quitting your job without working your notice period, gossiping across the office, not completing your final assignments, and not training your replacement could be the worst decision of your life.

Of course, you are leaving to start your own venture, but you cannot be sure that tt will be a success or that your old company won't come in handy one day. Leave without burning any bridges amd you may be able to cash in a favor one day. Your old employer may even send clients your way knowing that you are a trustworthy businessperson.

7. Don't forget the smaller planning details.
As an entrepreneur, it's easy to become the type of person that can see the big picture. Unfortunately, if you don't focus on the small details, you won't be able to mold the perfect company. Planning is key, and little things such as choosing the right social media channels, keeping up to date with emails, or even remembering to file your taxes are vital to your success.

8. Choose your new office space.
When planning the day when you quit your job, many assume that they will work from home until their company is off the ground and they have a team backing them up. Although this could work in the short term, it's not a feasible option in the long run.

If you choose to work from home, you need to find a balance between your personal space and work space. Working in bed, on your computer, all day, every day will lead you towards an unhealthy lifestyle that could have a domino effect on the progress your startup makes.

9. Create a portfolio or resume.
You may think that owning your own company means you'll never have to create another resume in your life. Wrong! Bulking up your resume and/or portfolio is a key driver when building your new business because you will need to prove to your investors, teams, and even clients that you are worth their money.

10. Finally...
Remember that starting a new business is going to be more challenging than you imagined. You're going to have to make the planning process your full-time job before you even see an income. That said, with the tips outlined above, you could make it the best, most profitable adventure you've ever embarked on from both a professional and emotional point of view.

Foreign Affairs / Eight Chadian Troops Killed In Clashes With Boko Haram by gabonsky: 5:39pm On Jun 26, 2017
Eight Chadian soldiers were killed in fierce fighting with Boko Haram insurgents at the weekend on islands on Lake Chad, which borders four countries on the edge of the Sahara, Chad’s army said Monday.

“Our forces attacked Boko Haram elements on five islands near Nigeria on June 24 and 25,” said spokesman Colonel Azem, indicating eight soldiers had died and another 18 were wounded.

He also claimed troops had killed 162 jihadists from the Nigeria-based group.

Chad is part of a five-nation regional force — comprising Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger and Benin — fighting Boko Haram, which is blamed for killing at least 20,000 people and leaving another 2.6 million homeless.

There have been frequent clashes on the many islands of Lake Chad since the Boko Haram conflict began in 2009. The lake borders Chad, Cameroon, Niger and Nigeria.

Foreign Affairs / Supreme Court Reinstates Part Of Trump Travel Ban by gabonsky: 5:29pm On Jun 26, 2017
A view of the US Supreme Court during their last public session before the summer break June 26, 2017 in Washington, DC.

The US Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear the case on President Donald Trump’s controversial travel ban targeting citizens from six predominantly Muslim countries. The high court also ruled that the measure can partially take effect — a win for the Republican leader, who has insisted it is necessary for national security, despite criticism that it singles out Muslims in violation of the US constitution.

The US Supreme Court on Monday partially reinstated President Donald Trump’s controversial travel ban targeting citizens from six predominantly Muslim countries, before examining the case in full this autumn.

The travel ban — which was put on hold by lower court rulings — will apply to those “who lack any bona fide relationship with a person or entity in the United States,” until the court hears the case in October, the justices ruled.

The decision is a win for the Republican leader, who has insisted the ban is necessary for national security, despite criticism that it singles out Muslims in violation of the US constitution.

Trump had suffered a series of stinging judicial setbacks over the measure, with two federal appeals courts maintaining injunctions on the ban.

Those courts had argued the president had overstepped his authority, and that his executive order discriminated against travelers based on their nationality.

“Immigration, even for the president, is not a one-person show,” the three justices of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals said in a ruling earlier this month.

“National security is not a ‘talismanic incantation’ that, once invoked, can support any and all exercise of executive power,” they added.

The Supreme Court narrowed the scope of those injunctions, saying the government could enforce its measure against “foreign nationals unconnected to the United States” without causing injury to the parties who filed suit.

Conversely, those with a “close familial relationship” in the US are not affected.

The revised measure, announced in March, seeks to bar from US entry travelers from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen for 90 days, as well as suspend the entry of refugees for 120 days.

The original measure, issued by executive order in January, also included Iraq on the list of targeted countries and had imposed an indefinite ban on Syrian refugees.

Science/Technology / Wireless Charging Means Electric Cars Could Drive Forever by gabonsky: 4:13pm On Jun 25, 2017
Scientists have found a way to wirelessly transmit electricity to a nearby moving object.

The method may have applications in transportation, medical devices, and more. If electric cars could recharge while driving down a highway, for example, it would virtually eliminate concerns about their range and lower their cost, perhaps making electricity the standard fuel for vehicles.

Except it is not new at all. It is in fact over a 100 years old and was invented by Nikola Tesla (he used moving lights to demonstrate wireless power transfer). But nonetheless the concept is a good one for EV's.

Science/Technology / Google To Stop Scanning Gmail For Ad Targeting by gabonsky: 8:17am On Jun 25, 2017
Google said Friday it would stop scanning the contents of Gmail users’ inboxes for ad targeting, moving to end a practice that has fueled privacy concerns since the free email service was launched.

A Google statement said Gmail users would still see “personalized” ads and marketing messages but these would be based on other data, which may include search queries or browsing habits.

Google Cloud senior vice president Diane Greene said in a blog that the free Gmail service would now follow the same practices as its corporate G Suite Gmail.

“Consumer Gmail content will not be used or scanned for any ads personalization after this change,” Greene said.

“This decision brings Gmail ads in line with how we personalize ads for other Google products. Ads shown are based on users’ settings. Users can change those settings at any time, including disabling ads personalization.”

Privacy activists have long complained that the scanning of email contents amounts to unwarranted “eavesdropping” on users.

The internet giant earlier this year reached a settlement in a class action lawsuit in the matter, but a federal judge rejected the deal as inadequate.

US District Judge Lucy Koh ruled in March that the settlement was difficult to understand and “does not clearly disclose the fact that Google intercepts, scans and analyzes the contents of emails sent by non-Gmail users to Gmail users for the purposes of creating user profiles of the Gmail users to create targeted advertising.”

Danny Sullivan, founding editor of the online blog Search Engine Land, called the move a “big change” for Gmail, noting that the scanning of email contents “has been the biggest hit against the services since it began.”

But Sullivan wrote on Twitter: “On the other hand, does it reassure consumers to know that Google has better info now about how to target them than by reading their emails?”

Phones / Blackberry Falls Most In Two Years As Software Sales Falter by gabonsky: 8:06am On Jun 25, 2017
BlackBerry Ltd. fell the most in almost two-and-a-half years after its quarterly earnings report showed surprisingly weak revenue from software, marring what was otherwise shaping up to be a banner year.

The Canadian company, which exited the hardware business last year, missed analysts’ estimates for total revenue, the majority of which is now made up of software sales. Revenue excluding some costs was $244 million in the fiscal first quarter compared with the average analyst estimate of $265.4 million.

The shares fell as much as much as 13 percent, to $9.65 in New York, the biggest decline since January 2015. Before the report Friday, the shares had gained more than 60 percent this year amid expectations of a successful pivot after exiting the hardware business that made it famous.

Having boosted its software business through acquisitions, BlackBerry is now expected to grow more organically, but that’s proving difficult as competition has been ramping up. BlackBerry recently lost Toyota Motor Corp. as a customer for its automotive software business and it’s up against International Business Machines Corp., VMware Inc., MobileIron Inc. and others in the market for software that helps companies track and secure their employees’ devices.

Feeling Pressure
“They have a large share of that market and it could be coming under fire,” said John Butler, a senior analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence.

Chief Executive Officer John Chen insisted he would still hit his target of 10 percent to 15 percent growth in software and services in the fiscal year that ends next March. Revenue growth will increase through this year and come in stronger in the second half as the company’s software sales force grows, he said on a call with analysts.

“We just don’t have enough people working on more deals,” Chen said. “We just have to go off and work on more opportunities ourselves.”

Earlier this year things had seemed to be going well for the Waterloo, Ontario-based company as investors started treating BlackBerry like the growing software company it has turned itself into. An $814 million windfall awarded to end a dispute with Qualcomm Inc. over royalty payments and positive comments from short seller Andrew Left didn’t hurt either.

The Qualcomm payment bolstered BlackBerry’s cash reserves, which now stand at $2.6 billion. That means Chen could resume making acquisitions to bolster software revenue, a tactic that helped replace some of the company’s evaporating hardware sales over the last three years.

Share Buyback
Some of that cash will go toward share buybacks, with BlackBerry authorizing TD Securities to buy back as much as 6.4 percent of the company’s circulating shares on its behalf. Buybacks have been part of Chen’s tool box in his bid to revive the company’s fortunes.

Chen spent much of the earnings call going over recent sales wins, including a deal to sell BlackBerry’s device management software to France’s central bank and a contract to install its “Radar” fleet tracking tech on some FedEx Corp. vehicles.

Licensing revenue was $32 million, compared with $25 million last year. Handheld devices revenue, which is made up of licensing agreements for the company’s phone brand to company’s like TCL Corp., was $37 million, compared with $152 million last year when the company still produced its own phones. Profit, excluding some items, was 2 cents a share, compared with the average analyst estimate of break-even, because of the large Qualcomm payment.

BlackBerry also re-organized how it reported revenue to reflect its current reality as a software company with a side business in licensing old hardware patents. The new software and services segment accounted for $92 million in revenue, up 12 percent from what would have been $82 million in the same quarter last year.

On a non-GAAP basis though, software revenue actually declined from the same time last year.

“Given the decline this quarter we’re going to have to have quite a meaningful re-acceleration over the next three,” Credit Suisse analyst Kulbinder Garcha said during the conference call.

In case if you don’t know, your stool can tell a lot about the state of your organs and also about your health. That is why is so important to take a look at the toilet when you do a poo, on this why you are checking your health status.

If your poop is in brown color, that it comes from the food that has been digested and all the nutrients have been absorbed from it.

Regular bowel movements are essential for good health, because in that way your body eliminates all the unnecessary substances. Therefore, the color of your poop can tell a lot about your general health.

Textures of poop

Watery, no solid pieces, all liquid

This is classified as diarrhea and is usually caused by some infection. In this case, you should drink more liquids to keep your body hydrated.

Sausage- shaped but lumpy

Fluffy pieces with ragged edges, a mushy stool

Still normal, but it is on the way to become diarrhea.

Shade of poop

Black

This can be a sign of an internal bleeding, caused by certain ulcers or cancer. Also, it can be caused by supplements that contain iron or bismuth subsalicylate. It is important to consult your doctor.

Brown

This color is the normal color of your poop.

Yellow

If your poop is yellow, this can be a sign of excess fat in the body which occurs due to malabsorption disorder such as celiac disease.

Family / Salt – Is It A Healthy Or Harmful To Health? by gabonsky: 4:06pm On Jun 19, 2017
Have you ever thought of having meals without salt? Yes, your expression is true. Salt is the prime ingredient, without which, your meals would be tasteless. No matter whether you are having a raw, boiled or cooked food, all require an adequate amount of salt in for making it eatable. But have you ever thought “is salt healthy or unhealthy”?

Salt – Some Basics About It
The scientific name of salt is Sodium Chloride. Salt consists of 40% sodium and 60% of chloride in it. Other varieties of salts include some amount of iron, potassium, zinc and calcium in it, while iodine is added externally to make the salt more balanced for regular use. In ancient times, salt was used as a preservative to store the food items for a long time. It was also used to avoid the growth of bacteria that decayed the food items.

Salt is not only used to increase the flavor of the food. The minerals obtained from salt are quite vital for the body as they help in fluid balancing, functioning of muscles and transmission of the nerves.

Salt is available in many different varieties like plain table salt, Himalayan pink salt, sea salt, etc., however, the origin of all is either through evaporation of the sea water, salt mines or by water rich in minerals. All of them carry different texture, color and tastes, but are equally healthy.

Is Salt Healthy Or Unhealthy
Salt And Its Effects On The Human Body
This tiny amount of salt is important for our health, however, the excess intake and the shortage of the same may lead to some serious health problems too. Generally, adults need approximately 1 gram of salt per day, which can be extended to a maximum limit of 6 grams for a healthy and balanced body. Increase or decrease of salt intake is surely going to harm your body.

Is Salt Healthy Or Unhealthy?
Salt is important for several functions in our body. Hence should be taken in appropriate quantity. When the intake decreases, or increases than required, you might have to face situations like:

1. Heart Diseases
When the circulation of blood to your heart reduces, or gets blocked, you might face situations like heart disease or heart failure. The increase in the intake of salt would raise your blood pressure, which increases the risk of coronary heart diseases to a great extent. The walls of the blood vessels get thick, which blocks the flow of blood to your heart resulting into heart attack. On the other hand, your heart muscle can also get thicken, which reduces the heart pumps and the circulation of blood in your overall body. To avoid such situations, it is highly recommended to reduce the intake of salt, which would also decrease your weight, reducing the chances of heart diseases.

2. Stroke
Salt is the prime reason of the increase in the blood pressure. Due to the increase, the supply of blood to your brain decreases. Another side effect of the increased blood pressure is seen in the supply of oxygen to your brain, due to which, the cells die. As a result, the individual may face situations like ischemic stroke or hemorrhagic stroke, which if severe can result in death. To avoid strokes from banging you down, one should reduce the quantity of salt in their meals and also carry some exercises on a daily basis.

3. Blood Pressure
Just as overweight, zero exercises, etc. are the reasons for an increase in the blood pressure, the heavy intake of salt is the prime reason among all. Having excess salt in your diet, would result in an increase in the pressure your blood places over your blood vessels. This would affect the pumping of blood in your body, leading to situations like strokes or attacks. Generally, all the heart-related problems have blood pressure as the basic reason, which happens due to the excess intake of salt in your body. It is, hence, recommended to decrease your quantity of salt as you grow older for a healthy life and controlled blood pressure.

4. Stomach Cancer
Surprised! However, it is true that high intake of salt would increase the chances to have stomach cancer in your body. When more than required salt is taken into the diet, it damages the stomach lining, and makes it easily susceptible leading to increase in the growth of bacteria in your stomach. As the bacteria in the stomach increase the inflammation, the risk of getting stomach cancer or ulcers also increases. This disorder is widely seen among men when compared to women.

5. Osteoporosis
This ailment is related to the bones. The individual facing this problem suffers from brittle and thin bones which are predisposed to breaking. The human body stores calcium in the bones. Having a diet high in salt would affect the stored calcium and remove it from the body through urine. Hence, your bones get weak and you might face fractures frequently. Along with it, if your blood pressure also increases, this damage can take you to a higher level of risk. The elder people and the women who have faced menopause are at high risk of getting into this troublesome disease quickly.

6. Obesity
High blood pressure, Coronary heart disease, diabetes, sleep apnea, etc. are the basic reasons for having obesity. However, salt doesn’t increase your weight directly. By consuming more salt, you feel more thirsty, due to which you have more fluids. The fluids if are taken through sugary drinks, they would increase your weight. Obesity is widely spread among the teens, and now also among the children, as they consume soft drinks often. Hence, an increase in the intake of salt also leads to obesity problems.

7. Kidney Problems
When calcium increases in your body, especially kidney, it increases the chances to have kidney stones. Calcium increases due to increase in the blood sugar level and salt intake in the kidney which results in kidney stones. These painful stones in some cases also turn to severe kidney diseases. The main function of the kidney is to control the fluid balance and the blood pressure, which is lost in the urine. All these symptoms can lead to increase in the chances of having kidney diseases.

8. Vascular Dementia
Dementia is a syndrome where the functions of the brain are affected. The individual having dementia might face problems with their memory, judgment, thinking, language, behavior, etc. This happens when a blood vessel is blocked in the brain, resulting in strokes, mini strokes, etc. This phase is known as vascular dementia. Having salt in an increased portion, increases your blood pressure also, which leads to strokes and then dementia. So, make sure you live a healthy lifestyle with a decrease in salt quantity with a healthy diet to avoid dementia.

Apart from this, reduction in salt can also protect you from syndromes like asthma, diabetes, water retention, nausea, tinnitus, etc. giving you a healthy routine. Also, the increase of salt in your body would lead to increase in the growth of a bacteria named Helicobacter pylori, resulting in problems like inflammation or gastric ulcers, which may lead to stomach cancer. Having a diet with increased salt also damages the stomach lining, exposing it to carcinogens.

Maladies Due to Deficiency of Salt
Just as the increase of salt is harmful for your health, the deficiency of the same is also harmful. The deficiency leads to a syndrome named hyponatremia, which may give you harmful side-effects too.

Here are some basic maladies faced due to deficiency of salt.
1. Primary Side Effects
The disorders due to deficiency may not directly show up. In the initial stage, symptoms like stomach upset, digestion problems, nausea, vomiting, abnormal fatigue, frequent headache, etc. If the symptoms are not considered on early basis, it may lead to some sober side effects. So, next time you feel any of the above symptoms frequently, make sure you visit your doctor quickly.

2. Damage To Nervous System
The nervous system needs salt in appropriate quantity so that it can function properly. Hyponatremia is also a condition that damages your nervous system. Salt, also known as sodium, plays a vital role in transforming the potentials of the nerve cells. This minor signal permits the communication among the cells. The deficiency of salt would fail the communication, resulting to neurological muddles.

Along with this, other effects like stupefaction, seizures, brain damage, coma, etc. can also be visualized.

3. Anomalous Muscles Functioning
This is another possible problem due to the deficiency of salt. In this cataclysm, the body loses its control over the movement of the muscles. The body contains many small cells, which join various muscles to the nervous system, known as neuromuscular joints. These joints help in passing messages to the muscle fibers, which hinder the movement of the muscles. Lack of salt would affect the movement leading to cramping or weakness in muscles.

4. Cerebral Edema
This is one of the serious side effect of salt deficiency. This is a problem mainly affects your brain by swelling it inside your skull. The increase in the swelling results to upsurge strain on the tissues of your brain, which may lead to bleeding in the brain as a severe side effect. The final result of this disorder is brain damage on long term. If you find yourself lacking sodium, consult a doctor as soon as possible to avoid this dangerous problem risking your life.

Hence, hyponatremia is a stern condition one must not neglect. Also, if you are performing a strong workout daily, similar to the athletics, you may lack sodium in your body. In case you face any of the symptoms, it is advisable to contact your physician and protect yourself from hyponatremia and other harmful effects.

Health Facts Related to Salt

Products like frozen food, processed food packets, luncheon meat, can packed soups, cheese, ready-made pasta and other sauces, fast food items, etc. have salt skulks deposited in it at hidden places. This may double the amount of salt you are taking normally.

The human body needs less salt than they actually have in their diet every day. This helps in controlling the blood pressure and diabetes resulting in a healthy kidney.

Many people replace sea salt with table salt for getting a healthy diet with less sodium. However, the fact is that both have equal health elements or sodium.

The salt substitutes available in the market boost of having low sodium, with necessary antioxidants or vitamins for a healthy lifestyle. The fact is that no matter how much herbal it is, it is definitely not healthy for your systems.

If you are having a habit to add some salt over your meals, make sure you switch to gourmet salts. The taste of the gourmet salt is similar to the table salt, but a pinch of it would be enough for flavor, while if you go for table salt, you might have to add a pinch or two more.

Thus we have seen here “is salt healthy or unhealthy”. Henceforth, neither the excess use of salt in regular meals is healthy nor the shortage is healthy. One must know how to balance the actual amount of salt required which would allow your body to function well and also would provide you the desired taste for a healthy living.

Science/Technology / Solar-powered Farm From A Box Is A Compact Farm Kit That Feeds 150 People by gabonsky: 3:59pm On Jun 19, 2017
"Two acres of land is enough to farm a sustainable food supply for as many as 150 people, and now a San Francisco startup is making it even easier to get that farm growing.

Farm From a Box is a shipping container kit that holds all the essentials for setting up a two-acre farm (except the land, of course).

Founders Brandi DeCarli and Scott Thompson got the idea after working on a youth center in Kenya where shipping containers were being used to substitute where infrastructure lacked.

That project didn’t address food insecurity, though, which led DeCarli and Thompson to found their own venture specifically for that purpose..."

Phones / How Smartphone Can Aid Your Efficiency by gabonsky: 7:44am On Jun 19, 2017
Smartphones are amazingly useful machines. Indeed, they are not just called smart for nothing. That device in your hands could do so much more than you know it is capable of, yet most of us miss out on some of these incredible functionalities.

Smartphones are amazingly useful machines. Indeed, they are not just called smart for nothing. That device in your hands could do so much more than you know it is capable of, yet most of us miss out on some of these incredible functionalities.

Interestingly, research shows that the majority of smartphone users explore less than 40 per cent of the utility of these devices. Whereas the majorities are comfortable with making calls, watching online movies or taking that occasional selfie; there is a lot more benefits locked in your smartphone.

Speak any language: You probably didn’t know this but with your smartphone, you can easily speak and understand any language – a task that some of the world’s most prolific linguists will struggle at. If you are using an Android phone, all you need to do is use Google Now to translate a word, phrase or sentence for you from any language of your choice. The most interesting part is that, you can even get both a spoken and written response. Amazing, right? You can also use the app – iTranslate which can be downloaded on iOS, Windows Phone and Android, for the same purpose.

Measure your heart health: With the growing cases of heart-related ailments, the importance of monitoring one’s heart health cannot be over-emphasized. Your smartphone can help you achieve this without taking a trip to the doctor. With apps such as Cardiio or Blood Pressure Companion, you can measure your heart rate blood pressure and overall level of cardiovascular health and fitness. Some of these apps can also take voice memos for symptom tracking and help you take note of any drastic changes or readings that may be a cause for concern.

Prevent drunk driving (and potential accidents): You are probably out for a party, had a few drinks and not too sure you can comfortably drive yourself home. Not to worry! You can know for sure if you are too inebriated to get behind the wheels with a smartphone app. A very good example is the Smartphone Breathalyzer, which can measure the alcohol on your breath in just five seconds, then wirelessly sends your Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) reading to your iOS or Android smartphone. Through this and similar apps, you can predict how long it will take for your BAC levels to return to zero per cent. The most interesting part of this is you can even use them to book an Uber ride!

Find out what song is playing: You have just heard that memorable tune on the radio or on a stranger’s device and wish to find out the artiste or song title. That’s an easy task. With apps such as Shazam or SoundHound installed on your smartphone, you’ve got all you need to identify a song as it’s playing. Furthermore, a number of platforms such as Google, Apple and Microsoft have song identification tools built right into their respective virtual assistants, so you can just use Google Now, ask Siri or tap the Music Search icon inside Cortana for the same purpose.

Scan a document: These days, you don’t need to invest in a large flatbed scanner to scan that urgent document. With your smartphone, you have the perfect, convenient tool for this. Just open your smartphone camera, which effortlessly becomes a makeshift scanner. Once you snap the document, you can save it as an image and share with the intended recipient. The higher the resolution of your smartphone camera, the better the quality; with Google Drive and apps such as CamScanner and Evernote, you can go further by converting scanned images into PDF files and read the text in them.

Remote lock or wipe your lost phone: The pain of losing one’s phone is often excruciating. The possibility of unauthorised access to your data and sensitive information makes this loss even more depressing. If you are using an Android smartphone, you can use the Android Device Manager to track and take control of your phone, in the event that you lose it. What’s more, you can use the Android Device Manager to ring your phone, remotely lock it or even factory reset it if you know you’re never getting it back.

Car Talk / Ferrari F430 Gets New Wheels From Strasse by gabonsky: 1:42pm On Jun 18, 2017
Ferrari may have dropped the F430 from their lineup some 8 years ago, when it was replaced with the 458, but it still does the job for enthusiasts and tuners alike.

It's not hard to see why, either, as its sexy lines that were penned by Pininfarina and its 4.3-liter mid-mounted V8 engine that pushes 490PS (483hp) and 465Nm (343lb-ft) of torque to the rear wheels, which offers exhilarating performance.

This being said, there isn’t much really one could do to their F430 to make it look hotter than when it left the factory, aside from fitting it with a new set of wheels, and Strasse's latest creation does make for an interesting candidate.

Measuring 20x-inch front and 20x-13-inch rear, the company's SV1 Deep Concave FS rims provide a contrasting look to the Rosso Corsa-finished Italian supercar, with their Matte Metallic Gold look and are a dramatic departure from the standard items.

Now, we cannot tell you how much this wheel set costs, as Strasse hasn’t released any pricing details, so if you're a Ferrari F430 owner that would be interested in it, contacting the company should be your next move.
