Also, can someone with a TRV travel to Canada between now and Jan 20th? If its possible please what does the person need to do, as in would he/she need written authorization to travel. Please I beg any info is really appreciated.

These things change by the minute and it's your responsibility to keep yourself abreast of the latest information on their official website. "I did not know" or "someone old me something else last week" is not acceptable . Even the people in Canada keep getting updates themselves day by day depending on the curve. As at this minute, I believe one can travel for discretionary reasons once you meet the fully vaccinated traveler exemption criteria [ https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/covid-vaccinated-travellers-entering-canada ] (You can find the test on their website including but not limited to 2 doses of listed vaccines the last dose being at least 2 weeks before your intended travel date - I believe positive covid-19 test result obtained within 14 days to about 90 days [not sure of end date] behind is also acceptable [however, you need to check if airline will accept that], etc.).

If the healthcare system continues to be overwhelmed, they may revert back to accepting only travelers arriving for non discretionary reasons or even close the border. Manitoba was calling for the military to assist, Ontario and Quebec are breaking all time record numbers. Fortunately, the death toll seems to remain comparably low despite the large case numbers being logged in.

No one can tell you what the rules will be tomorrow, talk less of next week. Not even the policy makers as they may be relying on data collected on a daily basis to make the next decision.

In short, if you are primed and ready to go, .... delay is dangerous.

For sure, MP abi MLA is next. They're the ones that used their mouths to say 30 days. False advertisement.

Do you mean 30 Work Days? I believe its working days which is about 6 weeks.

The ban on fights from India was from April to September 2021. 5 months. Keep in mind that the existing vaccines are more effective against the delta variant than omicron (India was banned due to delta).

Ottawa to toughen international travel restrictions as omicron concerns escalate

If true, strict international travel rules coming back again tomorrow. I was hoping they will bring back government quarantine hotels with fees payable by incoming visitors at least.

The wait continues as Omicron may take away the gains of the new portal and priority processing. Anyway, they tried at least by speeding up some applications. One step, one challenge.... life!

Can anyone put me through the process of getting a working visa to Canada ?? Please

Don't know if there's a thread for that purpose. As the name suggests this is mainly for folks looking for visit/ tourist visa. Perhaps some people within can guide you if you provide more details viz Are you in Canada? Do you have some sort of status? visit visa holder? skills? job offer? intend to apply from? resident of? age? etc. etc.

Those countries go soon ban Nigeria, make una take am easy.

The ban is just temporary which will be lifted soon.

You already have your visa, why not wait till they lift the ban instead of putting yourself at unnecessary risk.

Thanks for sharing your opinion

I am a bit lost with respect to the travel ban. Are Nigerian passport holders completely banned for now?

Otherwise, can one travel to a country not on the list (e.g. Dubai, Ghana, Cotonou, Ethiopia, Germany, etc.) and then take a flight from there to Canada after 15 days?

Anyone tried this lately? Please advise.

Does VFS send email updates when you send passport for visit visa? I recall when I sent my passport to Lagos VFS for PR visa, I got constant updates. However, my mums passport was sent on Friday Dec 3 and DHL confirmed delivery on Monday Dec 6 but there’s been no acknowledgement from VFS since then.

Submitted passports on Tuesday at Abuja. Got update when delivered the next day and just received sms and email messages after 7PM Nigerian time today to confirm return package had been picked with EDD Monday.

Please note that I subscribed for sms and email notification on DHL website after submitting the passports. So these are more or less DHL ( Not VFS ) updates.

Hi, I chose last option and was redirect to the new portal , I didn’t know if any new or old portal prior to this thread , I even thought that was the only portal to apply until I applied finish and came to read here and saw there was old and new portal

I wonder if it was a glitch coz the link to new portal usually becomes visible when you select options other than the last. The last option directs to old portal as it's link becomes visible in this case.

Please i need clarification on something. I also checked processing time and i saw 92 days. I submitted when processing time was 333 days and watched it dropped to 92 days. Is the present time frame for processing applicable to those who applied when it was 333 days coz my application would be 90 days in a couple of days. I just want to know what to expect

I believe it is average processing time.

My first application was pending for over 600 calendar days. My final application through the new portal would have been 30 working/business days today. I got PPR 2 days ago.

I guess my first application stands withdrawn. So if 1 application is processed in 1910 days and the and 9 are processed in 10 days, total days will be 2,000 and average processing time will be 2000/10 =20 days.

It seems it's the new applications being treated faster that is reducing the average processing time displayed. I have a friend who applied a month before my first application (662 days ago to be precise) and that application is still pending. Someone just stated that her mother's application was approved within 5 business days. Such an application, will lead to a drop in the average waiting time displayed.

And since it's average of Processed Applications, perhaps the ones not yet finalised do not form part of the base data set.

I checked yesterday and noticed that visit visa application from within Canada takes an average of 108 days compared to From Nigeria which currently stands at 92 days.

Applications from the new portal application are responsible for the significant drop in average processing time. It seems applications after September 7 from the old portal are also being treated faster. The ones from as far back as 2020 seem to remain on the queue having given people who believe they are qualified per the September 7 rules a chance to reapply through the new portal.

Yes you can apply for VISIT VISA on the new portal.

I doubt this is correct. If you follow the check list and click the last option, I believe it will take you to the old portal.

It seems this is the very essence of the initial assessment (Application Traffic Management).

I may be wrong.

@All,

Now that Canada has banned us due to the latest variant, Omicron, what happens to visa processing?
Hope it will not affect those that have submitted passports for visa?
Can one travel to a green country for 2 weeks then proceed to Canada?

I'm puzzled.

That thing is risky.

Imagine traveling to Dubai or Ireland for instance and then the Country gets added to the list before your 14 days wait is over.

I thought of it but it will be quite expensive especially if you don't have free accommodation.

At times like this sometimes, you may just have to take a chance but good to think of the associated risks. Indian students had to come through 3rd countries for a while.

Just got PPR for my wife and Children.

Do I need to book appointment for passport submission in Abuja?

I want to thank everyone here that helped. Special thanks to Motheexplorer for answering all my questions and Afrobrown2000 who pin pointed the new link I missed. I submitted a second application through the old portal beginning of October.

The 30 working days worked having submitted my last application on the 27th of October through the new portal.

My initial application was since March 2020!

Lastly, do I write to cancel the other applications or are they deemed cancelled already? I put all the previous application details in my most recent submission letter.

Hello everyone congratulations to everyone that got ppr..
I'm a student I want to apply for visitors visa for my mum through the new portal and I just want to know the required documents to submit on her behalf?

Thank You.

You will get a checklist unique to your application after the initial steps. She is your immediate relative and you're a temporary resident in Canada. Select that option and then click the blue button that will appear to enter the new portal (Select Second Radio Button).

You will then create a new account in the portal which is different from your regular CIC/ GC Key account (if you opened one when applying for your student visa).

I guess the system will generate a check list for you.

Hello guys
Just got ppr for trv. Submitted Oct 5, got ppr today, approximately 30 business days.
Please for those who have recently sent their passport, how do I go about submitting to vfs global Lagos? I know I have to do that through courier but what documents do I include, the mailing address too? How much does vfs charge? Do I need to include vfs consent form?
Also for my biometric confirmation slip, I got it when I captured for pr application. Am I to submit it for the trv or should I wait till I get ppr for pr?

This might have been touched upon earlier, pardon me please. Your meaningful contributions will be appreciated.

I don't think the bolded is entirely true as it stands on certain pre-conditions.

Perhaps, we should inquire first to see if applicants are eligible before directing them to the new portal as it appears that the new portal is not open to all applicants.

Seems you will be directed to the old portal if you answer "None of the above" when you begin the process. Also seems they did not advise everybody to re-apply as they were pre-conditions stated which you have to pass before re-applying.

Please advise.

Rocketninja:

Have you tried reapplying on the new portal? You're supposed to apply again if you applied before 7th of September. Try to apply again, hopefully it'll be faster this time.

pls I need help with filling my sponsorship application. Can’t sign on a document and the national identity document is it the same with NIN details? If so , expiration date is needed and I’m lost

I know I had problem with NIN date of issuance as I'm not sure of the exact date (You go for NIN biometrics, then go to collect it after it has been issued on a future date. No fixed date of issue on NIN except on Initial capture date which to me is not the actual issue date - Just like international Passport) but if there's expiration date it can be left blank since no expiration date for NIN

I believe your travel document is your international passport.

The first part of your question is not clear.

Are you visiting immediate or extended family member?

If not, and you answered none of the above in the preliminary questions, then you will be directed to the regular passport application site. Not the new portal.

Travel / Re: Canada Visit/tourist Visa Discussion. by galala123(m): 2:49pm On Nov 08, 2021
I did the same mistake and applied through the portal about a month later.

I believed they can run simultaneously. Just remember to include the previous application details as they suggested. They also stated that they will withdraw the old application but do not guarantee a refund.

I guess the answer lies in that statement.

RuggedArab:
Dear Sir/Ma,

I have a question bothering me right now. I made an application for my mom through the GCkey on 28th Oct and 24hours later she got biometric enrollment. Biometric updated 2nd Nov and I got to know now that there is a new portal site “portal” which is faster so I read here and from other forum.

I also read on the new portal that you can have GCkey profile and the portal profile too. I want to apply again through the portal for a possible quick decision.

My question is can these applications on different sites (GCkey and Portal) run simultaneously? Do I need to withdraw my application with the GCkey platform and apply through the portal or CIC will harmonize the application?
Travel / Re: Canada Visit/tourist Visa Discussion. by galala123(m): 9:56am On Nov 06, 2021
Hello,

While waiting was it showing the estimate completion date? Mine just shows an asterisk leaving me to wonder if something is wrong.

Secondly, which office processed your application eventually as per the PPR letter?

I wonder if new portal applications are processed in a particular location.

Thanks.

purplerain:
When you apply through the new IRCC portal they state that they will finalize applications within 14-30 business days. Both of them are fully vaccinated. I included their vaccine cards along with the application.

Passport photograph? That wasn’t part of the required documents when I was resubmitting. I thought it was weird but since it wasn’t requested, I didn’t bother. Do I send it via webform?

Also, that 2mb limit was so restrictive plus the portal kept rejecting documents merged or compressed with websites like ilovepdf. I spent almost 6 hours adjusting and putting the documents together before it finally uploaded.

I've spent almost a thousand dollars. The first application was $300. Then I submitted a second application a month ago and spent $385 as one of my children reached age for Biometrics. Unfortunately, I used my previous account rather than the new web portal so I had to reapply again last week as soon as I realised my mistake (thanks to someone here on Nairaland) through the new portal and paid another $300. After all this stress, it's the approval that concerns me more. In fact, you reach a stage when you just want an outcome so you can move on and plan ahead.

I thought it will be easy as I already had soft copies of documents used a month ago only to discover the 2MB limit so I had to start working on the documents all over again (Except straightforward docs like NIN, International Passport and Passport photograph).

Apart from the initial updates, I got an update 2 days later in the portal which were application summary documents (PDF files). I also noticed that biometrics were updated for the applicants with biometrics when I checked the portal upon receipt of their email.

Is this normal? The waiting continues.

Yemisi2015:

Ok thanks, just wanted to clarify as I've just spend $400 and hope we get the visa this year. Previous application is one year plus.
