Teau: These things change by the minute and it's your responsibility to keep yourself abreast of the latest information on their official website. "I did not know" or "someone old me something else last week" is not acceptable . Even the people in Canada keep getting updates themselves day by day depending on the curve. As at this minute, I believe one can travel for discretionary reasons once you meet the fully vaccinated traveler exemption criteria [ https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/covid-vaccinated-travellers-entering-canada ] (You can find the test on their website including but not limited to 2 doses of listed vaccines the last dose being at least 2 weeks before your intended travel date - I believe positive covid-19 test result obtained within 14 days to about 90 days [not sure of end date] behind is also acceptable [however, you need to check if airline will accept that], etc.). If the healthcare system continues to be overwhelmed, they may revert back to accepting only travelers arriving for non discretionary reasons or even close the border. Manitoba was calling for the military to assist, Ontario and Quebec are breaking all time record numbers. Fortunately, the death toll seems to remain comparably low despite the large case numbers being logged in. No one can tell you what the rules will be tomorrow, talk less of next week. Not even the policy makers as they may be relying on data collected on a daily basis to make the next decision. In short, if you are primed and ready to go, .... delay is dangerous.

19CannyMum: Ottawa to toughen international travel restrictions as omicron concerns escalate If true, strict international travel rules coming back again tomorrow. I was hoping they will bring back government quarantine hotels with fees payable by incoming visitors at least. The wait continues as Omicron may take away the gains of the new portal and priority processing. Anyway, they tried at least by speeding up some applications. One step, one challenge.... life! https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canada-travel-restrictions-1.6285823 |

Vytalboi: Don't know if there's a thread for that purpose. As the name suggests this is mainly for folks looking for visit/ tourist visa. Perhaps some people within can guide you if you provide more details viz Are you in Canada? Do you have some sort of status? visit visa holder? skills? job offer? intend to apply from? resident of? age? etc. etc. |

I am a bit lost with respect to the travel ban. Are Nigerian passport holders completely banned for now? Otherwise, can one travel to a country not on the list (e.g. Dubai, Ghana, Cotonou, Ethiopia, Germany, etc.) and then take a flight from there to Canada after 15 days? Anyone tried this lately? Please advise. |

AyabaS: Submitted passports on Tuesday at Abuja. Got update when delivered the next day and just received sms and email messages after 7PM Nigerian time today to confirm return package had been picked with EDD Monday. Please note that I subscribed for sms and email notification on DHL website after submitting the passports. So these are more or less DHL ( Not VFS ) updates. 1 Like |

Debbieeeeeee: I wonder if it was a glitch coz the link to new portal usually becomes visible when you select options other than the last. The last option directs to old portal as it's link becomes visible in this case. |

kpiper2473: I believe it is average processing time. My first application was pending for over 600 calendar days. My final application through the new portal would have been 30 working/business days today. I got PPR 2 days ago. I guess my first application stands withdrawn. So if 1 application is processed in 1910 days and the and 9 are processed in 10 days, total days will be 2,000 and average processing time will be 2000/10 =20 days. It seems it's the new applications being treated faster that is reducing the average processing time displayed. I have a friend who applied a month before my first application (662 days ago to be precise) and that application is still pending. Someone just stated that her mother's application was approved within 5 business days. Such an application, will lead to a drop in the average waiting time displayed. And since it's average of Processed Applications, perhaps the ones not yet finalised do not form part of the base data set. I checked yesterday and noticed that visit visa application from within Canada takes an average of 108 days compared to From Nigeria which currently stands at 92 days. Applications from the new portal application are responsible for the significant drop in average processing time. It seems applications after September 7 from the old portal are also being treated faster. The ones from as far back as 2020 seem to remain on the queue having given people who believe they are qualified per the September 7 rules a chance to reapply through the new portal. |

aloskyyoung: I doubt this is correct. If you follow the check list and click the last option, I believe it will take you to the old portal. It seems this is the very essence of the initial assessment (Application Traffic Management). I may be wrong. |

TheExalted: That thing is risky. Imagine traveling to Dubai or Ireland for instance and then the Country gets added to the list before your 14 days wait is over. I thought of it but it will be quite expensive especially if you don't have free accommodation. At times like this sometimes, you may just have to take a chance but good to think of the associated risks. Indian students had to come through 3rd countries for a while. |

Just got PPR for my wife and Children. Do I need to book appointment for passport submission in Abuja? I want to thank everyone here that helped. Special thanks to Motheexplorer for answering all my questions and Afrobrown2000 who pin pointed the new link I missed. I submitted a second application through the old portal beginning of October. The 30 working days worked having submitted my last application on the 27th of October through the new portal. My initial application was since March 2020! Lastly, do I write to cancel the other applications or are they deemed cancelled already? I put all the previous application details in my most recent submission letter. 4 Likes |

Wifefo88: You will get a checklist unique to your application after the initial steps. She is your immediate relative and you're a temporary resident in Canada. Select that option and then click the blue button that will appear to enter the new portal (Select Second Radio Button). You will then create a new account in the portal which is different from your regular CIC/ GC Key account (if you opened one when applying for your student visa). I guess the system will generate a check list for you. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/apply-visitor-visa.html 2 Likes 1 Share |

I don't think the bolded is entirely true as it stands on certain pre-conditions. Perhaps, we should inquire first to see if applicants are eligible before directing them to the new portal as it appears that the new portal is not open to all applicants. Seems you will be directed to the old portal if you answer "None of the above" when you begin the process. Also seems they did not advise everybody to re-apply as they were pre-conditions stated which you have to pass before re-applying. Please advise. Rocketninja: 2 Likes |

Chiazo21: I know I had problem with NIN date of issuance as I'm not sure of the exact date (You go for NIN biometrics, then go to collect it after it has been issued on a future date. No fixed date of issue on NIN except on Initial capture date which to me is not the actual issue date - Just like international Passport) but if there's expiration date it can be left blank since no expiration date for NIN I believe your travel document is your international passport. 1 Like |

The first part of your question is not clear. Are you visiting immediate or extended family member? If not, and you answered none of the above in the preliminary questions, then you will be directed to the regular passport application site. Not the new portal. passionup: |

I did the same mistake and applied through the portal about a month later. I believed they can run simultaneously. Just remember to include the previous application details as they suggested. They also stated that they will withdraw the old application but do not guarantee a refund. I guess the answer lies in that statement. RuggedArab: |

Hello, While waiting was it showing the estimate completion date? Mine just shows an asterisk leaving me to wonder if something is wrong. Secondly, which office processed your application eventually as per the PPR letter? I wonder if new portal applications are processed in a particular location. Thanks. purplerain: |

You are right, just crossed checked my document submission list. It was NIN that I uploaded and not Passport photograph. O had a slot for NIN because I said they had NIN and entered the NIN number when filling the form Yemisi2015: |

I've spent almost a thousand dollars. The first application was $300. Then I submitted a second application a month ago and spent $385 as one of my children reached age for Biometrics. Unfortunately, I used my previous account rather than the new web portal so I had to reapply again last week as soon as I realised my mistake (thanks to someone here on Nairaland) through the new portal and paid another $300. After all this stress, it's the approval that concerns me more. In fact, you reach a stage when you just want an outcome so you can move on and plan ahead. I thought it will be easy as I already had soft copies of documents used a month ago only to discover the 2MB limit so I had to start working on the documents all over again (Except straightforward docs like NIN, International Passport and Apart from the initial updates, I got an update 2 days later in the portal which were application summary documents (PDF files). I also noticed that biometrics were updated for the applicants with biometrics when I checked the portal upon receipt of their email. Is this normal? The waiting continues. Yemisi2015: 1 Like |
