Trash!!
There is nothing sophisticated in being confused about voting out a government that has failed in all ramifications. If any region needs to be giving thumbs up, then it is the East for unanimously rejecting failure. Stop getting it twisted!!

Yorubas really surprised me.
They don't vote based on sentiment.
You're not making any sense. The results coming from the East is exactly what it should be in any sane society. How does half of the populace voting someone who has failed in all ramifications amount to sophistication? Honestly, you guys are grossly abusing that word. If anything, kudos should be given to people who unanimously rejected a failure and not to those who are confused about taking a stand.
I love the block votes coming from the SE, and every other part of Nigeria with sane and educated people in the majority should equally produce similar result.

Stop posting rubbish. Owerri is a jungle and worst place in the SE, there's nothing beautiful about this dungeon. Even Aba is not in this bad condition as Owerri. Stop spewing nonsense all the time. Owerri has no meaningful establishment except prostitution which forms the economic mainstay of the state. Enugu, Awka, Abakaliki, Umuahia and Asaba are all ahead of Owerri. Aba used to be at the same level of infrastructure with Owerri but with the recent improvements done in Aba it has since overtaken Owerri infrastructural wise.

You guys from Imo state should develop your state so that your people can stay back to build the economy instead of running to Onitsha for economic survival where most Imo people invade in millions as their greener pasture.. There's hardly middle-class in imo state because is either you are a prostitute or an armed robber. There's no single decent private company in owerri outside the mostly unpaid civil servants. Raising family in Imo state is almost impossible because of social vices, no wonder you hardly see any sane family relocating to Imo state, except it's prostitutes, armed robbers and mad people.

Honestly, I feel sorry for you. How you have decided to live your life in misery, bitterness and frustration when you can simply live a normal life is what beats me. I don't need to be a psychologist to know what you are passing through. Nobody showed you love while you were in your formative years and you grew up with it thinking that the society hates you. I don't know specifically how terribly your parents/guardians treated you or if you grew up in the streets, but you need urgent help. It is never too late to live a normal life devoid of self hate and bitterness. Your type are those that end up committing suicide and the truth is that you are fast approaching that critical stage where suicidal tendencies becomes overwhelming.
I'm only giving you an advice because I know that your situation can still be salvaged only if you decide today to help yourself.
Thank you and may God help you.

Ofuzo:

Yes, under the current nigerian situation, everybody will still be engaged in buying and selling for a very long time until DRASTIC changes are made. Working in banks and hotels is the only white collar jobs available in nigeria. But, in western countries, bank and hotel jobs are not known as white collar jobs. Like I said in my earlier post, if I'm retired today, my next assignment will be studying the kinds of white collar jobs they have in these office towers. It really won't be that hard, because when you enter the front lobby of these office towers, the names of all the businesses in the building are displayed on a directory board. It used to be so easy to go into the buildings and just take the elevator to wherever you want to go. But because of the security and terrorism situation, almost all the downtown office towers have security guards. So, these days, when you go inside and want to go upstairs, the security guards will require you to sign in your name and deposit an ID card. Sometimes, they might even have to call the company you're visiting to get permission to let you up.

The chinese transformed their economies by understanding how western economies operate starting from the early eighties. Back then, most chinese were also engaged in agriculture and in buying and selling. There was absolutely no big chinese cities with major skyscrapers except their capital Peking. Everything changed for the chinese when american companies, in their quest for cheap labour and to have access to a billion population market started moving their manufacturing factories to china. For more than a decade, china was the manufacturing hub for the world. American, and european companies flooded there for all their manufacturing needs. By hook or by crook, china was able to get access to sensitive american and european technology which they have since harnessed for their own good. It was after the manufacturing boom in china that chinese cities filled with skyscrapers started springing up overnight. Nowadays, china have the best of everything that you have in western countries. They have big technology and internet companies. They have light and heavy duty manufacturing. And yes, they now also have office jobs with hundreds of skyscrapers dotting the skyline of their spanking new cities.
The basic reason why the West has such large number of skyscrapers is because they largely operate a formal economy while ours is informal. Now, the factors that brought about this massively developed economy include high purchasing power of the people, great and superb infrastructure, a huge GDP, high level of enlightenment etc. Some of these factors I mentioned are the reasons why some capital cities in Africa such as Nairobi, Cairo, Jo'burg, Cape Town, Durban, Lagos, Dakar, Tunis, Algiers, Luanda and a few others have a semblance of such skyline as obtains in the West. The major reason militating against the development of such skyline in Nigeria is absolute lack of infrastructure especially electricity, low purchasing power, low GDP etc. Cost of land in densely populated areas like Lagos, Abuja and the SE is enough reason for property owners to start building high-rise buildings but lack of electricity won't allow this. In Aba and Onitsha for instance, there are large numbers of 4 and 5 storey buildings that all use stair case only. These property owners would have started building upwards of 7 to 10 storey buildings if there is 24 hours non stop power supply to support elevators. However, the local economy is still evolving and lots of Western type jobs are being done in Nigeria of late. Using myself as example, I am a freelancer living in Owerri yet delivering projects for clients all over the world while I also run a computer sales outlet. I dress corporately to work despite that my outlet may be semi informal. Same thing is happening across Nigeria but they represent a small fraction of the total population. Some buildings, schools, offices et al in London, Paris, Washington etc are over 500 years old while Nigerian cities only emerged in early to middle of 20th century. The major reason why Enugu and Owerri are more beautiful than other cities in the SE is because they were the capitals of old Anambra and Imo states respectively thus they started much earlier to evolve before others like Awka, Abakailiki and Umuahia. If these cities were capitals the same period Owerri and Enugu were, they would have been at par with them too. Igboland already has enablers for proper development such as high rate of education/enlightenment, relatively high purchasing power, city proximity to one another etc so what needs to be done is to massively improve on the infrastructure and GDP.

Tinubu is really a dunce who ironically thinks he is smart. Every discerning person knows that Buhari and the cabals surrounding him hate Tinubu but are only tolerating him at the moment because of what they could exploit from him. They were already dealing with him and humiliating him up and down to the extent his wife had to cry out in frustration but immediately elections approached, buhari and the cabals called him and gave him the role of managing their campaign and the id!ot who could not see beyond his nose accepted and went to work. To show his masters that he is going beyond and above to do their dirty work, he began to insult everyone with reckless abandon including Obasanjo and other elder statesmen. What happened to the likes of Abiola, Oladipo Diya, Awolowo among other disgraced afonja leaders will be a child's play compared to what they have in stock for Tinubu. Being in control of touts, owning media outlets and corruptly enriching yourself with Lagos state government money does not mean you're smart. Afonjas wanted awolowo to be president by all means but the gambaris disgraced him to the point of committing suicide! Oladipo Diya was the vice to Abacha but he was so severely humiliated to the point of him kneeling on the ground, crying and begging a junior officer for his life!! Abiola was so harassed and humiliated as he was going about in futility seeking to be president, at the end he died in prison like a rat after the young ab.oki officers made a mojo out of him and his wife having sex in jail shocked shocked
The Afonjas wanted Falae to be president in 1999 but the gambaris refused and brought Obasanjo who they felt will protect their interest instead of one who may work for his people. They know that Tinubu is too ambitious despite his dumbness so after 2019 when he must completed all the dirty jobs they gave him to do, they will discard him the way they did others before him, but his own case will be worse.

Lol, afonja Muslims were busy disturbing the peace of everyone about how Kano has 1 billion voters and how they in the SW will vote for the terrorist yet Kano is less than Lagos while the SW states collected the lowest PVC nationwide. What can be deducted from this is that as usual, the SW is going to witness voter apathy once again while Igbos and Christian Yorubas in the region will vote for Atiku.

No apologies but you make the most infantile and senseless posts devoid of the use of grey matter here. The Nigerian/Biafran war was indeed a proxy war between Biafra on one side and the UK, Russia and Egypt on the other side. FYI, Russia provided the infamous Ilusyien bombers, Egypt provided the pilots that flown them while Britain provided an endless supply of armoured tanks, artillery guns, machine guns, bombs, shell and mortar. Wikileaks later revealed the extent of unlimited supplies of ship loads of arms and ammunition that were ferreted from London and Manchester hidden away from the press!! Despite the massive support the Arab world and those super powers gave to Nigeria, it still took your clueless army a whole three years to fight Biafran troops that were ill equipped but what the Biafrans lacked in ammunition, they made up in experience, sheer determination, passion and love for their country. Are you aware that without foreign intervention I.e. if Nigeria and Biafra were left on their own to fight with what they have, that Biafra would have overran Nigeria within a matter of months? Are you aware that Nigeria lost three times more soldiers than Biafra did despite the gargantuan arms and ammunition in their disposal?? Did you know that the worst cases of loses throughout the war was suffered by Nigerians and that includes the Abagana ambush that wiped out a whole battalion of Nigerians, the two time attempts to cross the river Niger at Onitsha led by the moronic Murtala Muhammed that led to the drowning and massacre of thousands of Nigerian troops?? Did you know that it was the overwhelming civilian deaths brought about blockade of Biafra that made them lose the war??
If Nigeria is even averagely strong as you ignoramuses are saying, would it surrender Bakassi peninsula without even an argument?? Do you think that countries like Iran, Egypt, Vietnam, Syria etc you are comparing yourself with would abandon their territory just like that, without a fight?? The truth is that Nigeria is a very weak country that can only bully little and wretched countries like Liberia, Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone. Boko Haram is not half as strong or experienced as Al Shabaab in the Horn of Africa yet they are using your soldiers to do shooting practice!!

Yes, you are right. It's not everyone that gets to such height actually becomes down-to-earth, but more often than not, those that worked their way to the top with grace, people like NOI, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerbbage etc all appear to have same type of world view and is more common in the developed world unlike here where many of our "money miss road" fellas would rather distance themselves from the downtrodden and even oppress them with their ill-gotten wealth. Of course, NOI has always been down-to-earth and easy going. It becomes a rare opportunity to identify with the downtrodden after a long period of living and working in posh environment. We're products of the information we contain. Sir, may I crave your indulgence to school you on the Igbos, properly change the stereotypical narrative that had bewildered few of us.

First, you make mention of Igbos lacking in innovation and other metrics of a great clans. May I start by mentioning many of Igbos in the new order that has changed the face of the world.

1. Eboe Osuji = ICC President
2. Arunma Oteh OON= is the Treasurer and a Vice President of the World Bank.
3. Phillip Emegwalim- Father of Internet
4. Chimammada Adiche
5.Ngozi Okonjo
6. Oby Okwesili
7. Chukwuma Soludo.

In sports, do you have doubts, because the greatest footballers in Nigeria today are Igbos.
In Entertainment industry we're doing too well.
Commerce, even our enemies will give it to us.

Sir... You talked about hate, wow! Sir! Are you aware that Igbos has a helping methodology called Igba Booyi? It's a system where a person is asked to serve somebody without any form of legal documentation for years, and at the end of 4=5 years he/she is settled?
Igbos have shown more love among them, when compared to many.
Although, granted that the author of write up made some valid points that should be considered by we Igbos, but he is wrong in many others. Igbos have never lacked great personalities in diverse fields like technology, entrepreneurship, sports, entertainment, administration etc and trying to list them all today will be difficult because they are quite many. Igbos may have invested a lot in places like Lagos, Abuja, North etc where they feel will guarantee them maximum returns but they have equally invested heavily at home and has continued to do so. Aside Aba, most other SE cities has made great strides in the last decade. Cities like Owerri, Enugu, Onitsha, Awka, Abakailiki, Umuahia etc have grown astronomically. Owerri for instance is arguably the fastest growing city in Nigeria today. There are lots of real estates, hotels and entertainment centres that keep springing up on a daily basis. I was driving through the streets of New Owerri yesterday and I was marveled at the gigantic edifices I saw with an appealing environment that could be compared with what obtains in Abuja. Owerri is an underated city and would shock many in a few years time. Now, most of these investments are being done by Igbos. Aba is the only city in Igboland that has not only experienced stunted growth but has retrogressed badly and this is a problem of leadership, starting from Orji Uzor Kalu, to Theodore Orji and now Okezie Ikpeazu are all mediocre and failure personified and it's such an irony that a city that has the most hardworking and enterprising Igbos domiciled in it will be suffering from such perennial maladministration. However, I'm still disappointed that our people have not leveraged on our near absolute control of trade and commerce in Nigeria, and in recent times the rest of West Africa to make our region the hub for such goods. Onitsha, Aba and Nnewi should be the hub for Computers/electronics/consumer goods, textiles/leather goods, and motor parts respectively. Computer village Ikeja ought to be relocated to Onitsha and Igbos already have the capacity to ensure that. We should be using only international airlines that fly into AIIA Enugu, and for a people that have bulk of the travelers in Nigeria, we have the capacity to ensure that. However, I agree with the author that we don't have to wait until we get Biafra before proving our mettle regardless of the bottlenecks and obstacles the Nigerian state throws our way. An economically and technologically advanced Igboland will even be better positioned to challenge Nigeria against the anomalies that currently exist.

From your comment you've never been to the north.

Perhaps you are generalizing because of those cobbler Mallams and beggers you see on the southern streets begging for alms. That alone would not give the true picture of northern Nigeria.

Places like

Kaduna
Kano
Gombe
Yola
Bauchi
Jos
Mina etc are far better than some of the southern states I've been to.

Even Maiduguri is ahead of some southern states. Forget about what media have been feeding you with. Maiduguri is a beautiful city in spite the insurgency.

See this abo.ki, continue playing the Ostrich while the north continues to decay. Poverty prevalence rate for North East and North West is at an alarming 97% yet you are here saying trash. You think using oil money from Niger Delta to build roundabouts, mosques and roads in the North is enough to turn around its deplorable situation?? That Nigeria is today regarded as the poverty capital of the world is solely due to the north! Even Sanusi Lamido raised alarm and said that poverty in Nigeria is a northern phenomenon. Are you more educated or informed than the former CBN Governor and current emir of Kano?? Continue encouraging almajiri system, primitive ideology, Islamic fundamentalism and wicked exploitation of your masses by your elite and soon, your poverty rate will reach 99.9%. It is even the Southerners in the North that is helping your local economy otherwise it would have been worse. With the menace of boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen ravaging your region, I see no hope for you guys.

There has been a Imo Specialist Hospital Umuguma in Owerri established by Udenwa government the same time Imo state University teaching hospital was established in Orlu. So why Okorocha duplicating specialist hospital in Owerri while IMSUTH is abandoned by Okorocha? IMSUTH was rated among the best ten teaching hospitals in Nigeria in its early years.
.
Okorocha came and has been equipping the Imo Specialist Hospital in Owerri since he became governor, but not Imo state University teaching hospital Orlu.

It's the seventh year Okorocha refused to asphalt the dilapidated 1.4km main road leading to IMSUTH Orlu, while Okorocha builds all the main roads leading to Specialist hospital and IMSU in Owerri.

Earliest during his tenure, Okorocha built many Ochiedike and other diagnostic labs in Owerri. If he had wished IMSUTH well right from day one, he might have built the many Ochiedike and other diagnostic labs in IMSUTH to increase the worth of the diagnostic, referral and research institution which does not need to be located in the state capital.

No Imo state governor without malice against IMSUTH can go to establish another Specialist Hospital in Owerri, while the State University teaching hospital Orlu started 17 years ago remains uncompleted, not fully equipped.

We are biting our tongues over health care in Imo state, if not, in the wealthy and developed world, IMSUTH at Orlu is enough for all the tertiary health care needs of entire population of Imo state. A teaching hospital is not a General hospital.

Duplicating Specialist Hospitals here and there in Owerri by Okorocha govt is aimed to further paralyse and render IMSUTH Orlu redundant, and unofficially relocate IMSUTH to Owerri.

Okorocha seeks to placate Owerri so that Owerri shall not query how his private businesses in Owerri, including Eastern Palm University in his village came to be. That's also behind Okorocha doing nearly all govt development infrastructures in Owerri.

You can see the large number of private hostels and gigantic housing edifices along IMSUTH road Orlu that Okorocha has been suffocating all these years he abandoned IMSUTH.

One thing, if the Old Owerri Road Orlu leading from Owerri through Umuowa-Y junction to IMSUTH was not scrapped and abandoned by Okorocha govt since 2012, if the main road to IMSUTH is rebuilt, the scene of the area IMSUTH is located in Orlu would have been as beautiful, if not more beautiful, than the scenes in New Owerri.

Let Okorocha continue to believe that people are stupid, believe that he is the only smart person.

Cry cry baby, you no dey tire??
On a serious note, why don't you channel your energy into something more productive than all these irritating
and fruitless lamentations on Nairaland. Owerri is your state capital and will always be accorded top priority as is obtainable in other places, so deal with it!

The best neighborhoods in Owerri based on your criteria are Amakohia/Spibat (they have constant light, good roads, functional street lights and serenity) and New Owerri/world Bank. These areas are cool but rent there could be relatively expensive. However, I can assure you that living in Owerri is a lot better than living in Lagos. I also left Lagos for Owerri in 2014 and have never regretted it. Owerri is just another Abuja on a low budget cool cool

Finally you have forgotten how prices of goods increased by 150% ,how pmb supported killer Fulani herdsmen in their land grab, crop destruction and killing spree
PDP might have been bad but APC is terribly wicked n bad
Grow up 30k stipend cannot guarantee you a good future
How I wish I can like and share your intelligent post a million times! As it stands now, I am just watching Nigerians and I will know if they are sane and wants to live normal lives like other people across the world or if they want to die in suffering. I made sure I got my PVC today against all odds, and despite having changed residence from one part of town to another, I will still walk several kilometers from my house to my polling unit to ensure that I vote for Atiku/Obi. I will take all these inconveniences to ensure I satisfy my conscience in bringing about change to the deplorable situation of Nigerians but if they choose to suffer from Stockholm syndrome and vote for or even allow Buhari to rig himself back to office, then I will sit back and make a mockery of their suffering from 16th February onwards. Thank God I don't rely completely on the Nigerian economy for my livelihood since I work for people outside our shores and in return earn in hard currency. Therefore, my forex earnings will definitely cover whatever shortfall buhari's maladministration will bring out. However, the killings of herdsmen, unemployment, boko Haram killings, mass suicide, online begging for alms under all sorts of excuse, Biafra agitation, economic refugees dying on the Sahara desert or Mediterranean Sea in their futile attempt to enter Europe etc are issues that will never elicit any emotions from me. NOW IS THR TIME FOR NIGERIANS TO BE SOBBER AND CONSIDER IF THEY WANT TO TAKE THE PATH OF LIFE OR DEATH!!!
