Christianity EtcRe: Haiti Relief: Pastor Chris Oyakhilome Raises Funds by Ganjaseed: 12:08pm On Mar 09, 2010
@Mabel.

The way you are advertising Pastor Chris is something else. Not only Christ embassy has done a thing like this even non christian organisation have done it long b4 now. I will not give him Kudos for this because it is even too late for the response, those kids could have been dead by now if not for quick response of others who really cares and acted fast. He mobilised people to give towards Haiti, another style of fraud. brows through the internet and see how many people have given their personal money to assist the victims. T.B Joshua have long done it when those people needed assistance.

The Superhuman Complex part I – 1 Corinthians 5:17

It was sometime around 10pm, three days to Christmas last December. I’d just finished my meal in a restaurant close to my hostel in school (UNILAG) and was just about leaving when I heard Pastor Chris’ voice over the TV (Atmosphere for Faith) and looked up hoping it wasn’t a mere ad and that the programme was really just about to start so I could watch. I hadn't had the time to watch him preach or listen to any of his tapes for quite a while so I felt this was a rare chance to do so and I could spare some extra 30 minutes. What’s more? I was in a really good mood! I mean, after a plate of well cooked egusi soup and eba (my favourite). I decided to relax and watch.

After the introductory montage a lady came on and did the usual prep talk. Something like – “get ready to hear the word of God from the man of God Pastor Chris”… bla, bla, bla. Then the main man himself came on. It was an excerpt from a full length video from a conference they had. He was mostly spewing out his usual crap about the Christian being more than meets the eye, in the sense that when you become a Christian, you become some kind of superhuman. And then he gave the most shocking example I'd ever heard, as an illustration.

He said “years ago when he first discovered these things”(the supposed secret about the superhuman capabilities of the Christian), he would cut some of his flesh out (pointing to his arm) and after some time, place the flesh back from where he cut it out and “decree” or “command” or “speak” the flesh back into place and before long, the cut out flesh would blend back into his body – the bleeding would stop, it would heal up and even look as if nothing happened there. No scars. No pains.

Why I brought this up

Simple answer – the bible nowhere teaches this megacrap delusion! The bible shows us clearly that the change a person experiences when he becomes a Christian isn’t physical and not the way pastor Chris and others like him teach it. Below is the verse of scripture he normally uses to support his “Superhuman gospel”, as I like to call it.

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come.

– 2 Corinthians 5:17 (RSV)

The problem comes from the part where it says “he is a new creation”. I remember he (Pastor Chris) said some years ago in other videos, that this meant that the Christian is a “new species”- “one that didn’t exist before”. "One made in the class of God".

Well, this is nowhere near what the bible is actually talking about when it speaks of the born again Christian being a new creature.

A common mistake

One of the most common mistakes the professing church makes today when trying to interpret the scriptures is to pluck a verse out of its original context and then twist it to mean whatever they want it to. That’s called lifting scripture out of context!

Back in SSCE days, we were taught the importance of interpreting sentences or statements in the context of the passage it was lifted from. I haven’t taken a look at recent UME Use of English past question papers but I can tell you, as a veteran, that it is tested every single year.

I remember when we were being taught to attempt those kinds of questions in UME prep classes. We were warned over and over again not to give in to the temptation of interpreting the statement/sentence with any preconceived notions or ideas we may have had about the statement or sentence. I love JAMB! They’re very clever. If you tried to answer the question with a preconceived notion, which is usually a common one they know most people will be familiar with, you will surely find that answer among the options! And it was always the wrong answer to pick.

What were they trying to teach us? To learn to interpret the things we read – comments, statements and sentences that are part of a larger body of text, IN THEIR PROPER CONTEXT! And that surely includes bible verses and passages. And we’re going to correct that mistake here, as regards 2 Corinthians 5:17, as it is (to the best of my knowledge) one of the verses of scripture that’s commonly abused in this way. Let’s take another look at it:

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come.

– 2 Corinthians 5:17 (RSV)

You see, by isolating this verse of scripture, it’s very easy to impose any crazy interpretation to it, like most of our current crop of preachers do. Some of them in ignorance, others deliberately. And this is what I believe Mr. Oyakhilome has done (does, actually, as it’s one of his favourites) with this verse.

Comparing scripture with scripture

One more thing before I continue. The next most common error modern-day church folk make in interpreting scripture is that they fail to compare it with other related scriptures. This is the proper thing to do when the original, immediate context of the verse(s) doesn’t seem to reveal much about the verse in question. Like someone put it, you let “scripture interpret scripture”.

And this is what we’re going to do in trying to understand what 2 Corinthians 5:17 really is about because the immediate context doesn’t say much to completely clear up the air about the meaning of verse 17, unless you start reading from chapter 1 verse 1 and pay close attention. I encourage you to please make out time and read 2 Corinthians from the very beginning right up to the end of chapter 5 or better still, all the way to chapter 13, so you can get the full picture. Paul nowhere said anything about being superhuman. While reading, please remember the bible originally wasn’t written in verses and chapters. That was introduced much later for easy referencing.

You’ll agree with me that 1 Corinthians chapters 1 – 5 would be a little too much to paste here right? So we’ll look at another verse that explains it better. Thankfully it’s Paul writing here too.

22 Put off your old nature which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful lusts,

23 and be renewed in the spirit of your minds,

24 and put on the new nature, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

25 Therefore, putting away falsehood, let everyone speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.

26 Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,

27 and give no opportunity to the devil.

28 Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his hands, so that he may be able to give to those in need.

29 Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for edifying, as fits the occasion, that it may impart grace to those who hear.

30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, with all malice,

32 and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

- Ephesians 4

I think verses 22-24 really clarify what Paul was talking about in 1 Corinthians 5:17. The Christian is “renewed” and given “a new heart”. A heart that now not only longs to live the holy and righteous life God has always desired, but is now empowered by God to do so. Biblically, this is a marked departure from the norm with unsaved people (Jeremiah 17:9).

So Paul wasn’t talking about people becoming new, “superhuman” creatures when they become Christians. Like a friend of mine pointed out when speaking about this issue sometime ago, everything about the person remains the same. His name remains the same, his face remains the same, his wife and kids remain the same, his job remains the same, his bank account remains the same and err… his car doesn’t suddenly turn into a space ship.

Christians are completely normal everyday people with no superhuman abilities whatsoever, except for God’s saving grace that cleanses us from sin as result of faith in work of Christ and a new heart to live righteously for God right in the midst of a sinful and rebellious world. And no, Christians can’t cut out their flesh, place it back and then decree it back into place.

Soon I hope to do a follow up article called the “The Superhuman Complex part II – The lie that Christians can’t be sick”.

Other scriptures to read up: Ephesians 2:1-10, Titus 2:11-14, Jeremiah 31:31-34 and Ezekiel 36:26.

Christianity EtcRe: Why Do Youths Run Away From Deeper Life Bible Church? by Ganjaseed: 3:57pm On Feb 26, 2010
Deeper life preach the gospel with little understanding, their presentation of God and His kingdom was the greatest blunder of all times. When they started they ushered in a similar principle of the Taliban but in a very gentle manner.

They abstain from watching TV and listening to music and even refused to play instrument in the church, they chose their way of dressing thereby forcing members to dress thesame way and if not, meaning you are not yet sanctified.

They made people to dispose their TV and stereo set attributing those things to demons.

If that message of old that he has preached for years to his followers is now taking the opposite turn, its a clear indication that God was never involved in that doctrine. because i have seen this same man on TV granting interviews and recording his church program, making video tapes and all that.

Where are they going to watch those tapes ?

Has God reverse that message He gave to the GO years back or what happened. my answer is NO . That was a message preached out of ignorant, God is all knowing and He knew in time to come media will help in reaching out to people so He (GOD) couldn't have inspired that message. Because now they are using thesame means they condemn years back to create awareness of the deeperlife church.

Infact there are many other things I just decided to mention this.

Rasta or Rascal?. There are two groups of Rastafarians, one group is known for the marijuana also called ganja or reefer that they smoke. The other group is considered the real Rastafarians, they live in the mountains and practice a pure way of life. They refer to those who sell drugs and smoke marijuana and hashish as rascals.
Hm where did you get that info from? So long there is 1 God and 1 mediator between man and God, that is what we the conscious people preach and believed. JAH is his name and our Redeemer Jesus ( Immanuel, Joshua, Christ just name it)

Brethren please do understand the situation Jonathan had found himself, there is nothing Jonathan can do right now about the developing situations concerning sister Turai controlling things. I do not expect Jonathan to do otherwise at the moment, but i do like his style till now. If Jonathan push too further to get things done these same cabal will label him as treason "this is naija don't forget". Till now Jonathan has not been accused for anything except that he has no much power to execute his responsibilities. I would rather advice Jonathan to keep cool these whole story will soon fade away and the true reality of things will come to lime light. God still owns Nigeria don't forget, He (GOD) had already made plans as to what happen next, only that we do not know it, but lets wait and see.

Christianity EtcRe: The Gospel Message: Is It For Or Against Prosperity? by Ganjaseed: 1:45pm On Feb 02, 2010
The preachers of this generation have made us to understand that the more money you give to the pastor or to the church the more blessing you get. WRONG.

They introduced sawing and reaping, the seed is MONEY, very funny. Some people even saw money seed to get husband and protection, this is the same practice of babalawo, that is what the church of this age have turned into. Jesus said seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and every other thing shall be added unto you. When we do this, then God will take care of our other concerns. This is prosperity when God himself takes over what concerns us.

To me this is the total message of prosperity anything outside this is for selfish interest and God is not involved in a thing like that.

This chapter says it all. We are not saved by the amount of money we give to church or the man of God nor how regular we pay our tithe (though not scriptural that is the gospel of men "Peddlers of the gospel"wink But purely GRACE by Faith.

thanks.

Let him pray publicly and declare a date and time for the president's healing and returning back home, and lets keep watch to see his prophecy coming to pass. When Elijah and Elisha made their Pronouncement they did not need to see the King to do that, yet they did and it came to pass. This is a 419 prophet.

This is why I said there is no single prophet in Nigeria.

If you read the Bible very well you will see all the prophet of God had prophecy for their nation and it was a very specific message without complication nor doubt if it is from God.

These so called men of God in Nigeria are all 419 men. God is not speaking to any of them as they claimed. T.B Joshua is a very clever guy who refused to say anything about the president nor Nigeria as a whole because he has no idea whatsoever what is going to happen next, and he does not want anybody to quot him.

Brethren, if you read the interviews very well you will realised that everything the man of God says God told him is a big lie, this man does not hear from God at all. Believe it or not, God speaks more specific and more clearer than this. read this ==(The Lord says that if care is not taken, a state of emergency can be declared in Lagos State.) God will never make such uncertain statement.

Look at this!!!!!

What did God tell you about President Umaru Yar’Adua’s government?
Well, this is a very difficult question for me. But if we should face the reality of our situation, God said to me that the seat of the president has been declared vacant and there is no likelihood of President Yar’Adua surviving till the end of his tenure.

This guy is a noise maker. It is clear enough that this guy may not make it.
Christianity EtcArgument With A Pastor Over Handcachief by Ganjaseed(op): 5:00pm On Nov 27, 2009
Folks.
I rejected to buy a handkerchief after a church service and the usher reported me to the pastor and the pastor was very angry with my comments on his practice of handkerchief sales. I wouldn't have reacted that way but the usher pushed it too much making me believe am committing a certain sin by not buying the handkerchief from her.

This is the scenario-: I was invited to a certain church in Amsterdam and after the service the ushers where selling handkerchief prayed for by the pastore of the church and that people should rub it on their faces and they will be highly favoured. I told the Usher i do not want to buy the handkerchief because i do not even believe in your pastor not to talk of the piece of cloth she is selling, she was very angry about what I said, but after some more talking about the so called favoured handkerchief, I advised her to look for a place where God and his word is being preached not where men make merchandise of the gospel. I thought the whole thing was over after that, before i could get my kinds ready to go home some one tapped me on the shoulder and said the pastor want to speak with you, I followed her to the pastore who was still attending to other people, and the lady said to him that is the man, and the pastor asked me sir what is your problem? I told him I have no problem sir. And he asked me what did you say to one of the Usher about the handkerchief I blessed? I gently told him, I simply refused to buy it because I do not believe in you nor the handkerchief. Everybody standing by where very surprised hearing me saying that and the pastor did not find it funny at all he made some silly statement, and I told him He is a peddler of the gospel and besides he needs to go to bible school to learn some more because he is feeding the flocks with junk spiritual food, then he started insulating me in Ghana language which I did not understand anyway but somebody told me what the pastor said in his language. He actually insult me with his village god (just like when it is said "make AMADIOHA fire you) I could not stop laughing when I heard that. this is the kind of christian society we have over here in Europe.

Brethren, have I really done anything wrong by refusing the handkerchief?
Christianity EtcRe: Pastor Adeboye Live In Katy Texas by Ganjaseed: 3:52pm On Nov 27, 2009
My conclusion from all the arguments I have read so far in this forum (nairaland) is that Nigerian Christianity is more of culture and traditional believe than Biblical believes.

Nigerians have been grossly brainwashed that they no longer see the Bible as the true path to righteousness rather believing what they are told by their pastores, and even if anybody come around to reveal the truth to them yet they sees it as heresy. I have few things i would like to point out here.

1. Maintaining a Jet includes------Monthly insurance, Monthly TAX, maintenance of the Jet, payment of flight crew members, landing charges and taking off charges ( the prices varies depend on where the jet is at the moment)

Folks lets tell each other the truth. this is a foolish thing to do, this Jet will take more money out of the church Treasury then the cost of the jet itself in two years. Conclusion, God wouldn't have asked this guy to buy Jet for the work of the ministry this is self decision for whatsoever reason best known to him.

2. Commercial flights-----many business men travels every week with commercial flights to any destination in the world. I believe Adeboye doesn't have to travel that often, and even if he has to, yet private Jet is never the chipest and the most convenient way of traveling. The disadvantage of owning a Jet is more than boarding a commercial Jet.

Folks considering this simple reasoning God has no hand in what Adeboye is doing, you do not need any prophet to tell you this if you really have the spirit of God, this is simply foolish spending of God's money.

This applies to all other pastors with thesame mind of wastefull spending.

My question is == if all these pastor where to handel their personal business will they go for a private Jet?
Christianity EtcRe: Fort Hood Prophecy By Tb Joshua by Ganjaseed: 5:24pm On Nov 10, 2009
This is rubbish !!! Read the Bible and see how God communicate with his prophets and compare it with this one posted. God speaks clearly more than this, the message of God has no complication attached to it. If you read your bible very well you will see that prophets of old will usually declare that "it shall come to pass, and if you read further you will see "and it came to pass, " I see this more of guessing and manifestation of a familiar spirit. If God spoke to him truly he would have known the full name of where this incident is going to take place.

It is absolutely of no use to God and man giving a message to a man in another continent of such disaster that should take place in different continent, does it mean that there are no man of God in that continent?

T.B Joshua always make this kind of statements and people are rejoicing over it that he is indeed a prophet God, of what use has his prophecy been to mankind, what happen to his prayers then if he actually prayed for those disasters that he forsees? yet they happened.

My conclusion is that he got these informations from their covens, they may look "OK" but I tell you folks THIS IS NOT GOD SPEAKING.
Christianity EtcRe: What About 'holy Mary?' by Ganjaseed: 5:25pm On Nov 03, 2009
There is no disputation about this, ROMAN CATHOLIC CULT (RCC) is an anti Christ movement they turn the word of God upside down to disapprove the sonship and the Grace God has given to mankind through the Lord Jesus Christ in style and many followers believe this pagan doctrine.

The RCC is already hosting the anti Christ. === Any one that does not confess that Jesus Christ is the Truth and the only way without any substitute of any kind whether Mary or saint Paul is an anti Christ.

I CAN SAY THIS TO THE POPE HIMSELF FACE TO FACE.
SportsRe: Stunning! How Tb Joshua Saw Nsofor's Winning Header Against Mozambique by Ganjaseed: 3:12pm On Oct 13, 2009
Any man that has the spirit of God can immediately tell when God is speaking and when the devil is manipulating. A palmwine drinker could have said exactly thesame thing and he will not be listen to.

This is a familiar spirit at work, they are not sure of what they are talking about, but they still have a way of saying it so that if it does not come to pass you cant really hold them responsible for anything.

Elisha and Elijah are perfect example of a prophet, very simple "If i be a servant of God let it happen" that is a prophecy not saying something as if you are guessing. Total bullshit!!!
Christianity EtcRe: Is It Permissible To Adapt Secular Music For Worship?? by Ganjaseed: 3:10pm On Oct 12, 2009
The way Nigerians thinks about religion sometimes suprised me. NIgerians ! remember that God is not a native of Nigeria, two God created many languages and many tribes and every tribe has a differend rhythm and lyrics. So, how do we really judge Godly rythm and worldly rythm?

We have Jamaicans Christian music with cool christian reggea vibes, and the Americans with their pop vibes. How do we now judge the one God accept?

!!!!!! Remember David danced and God loved it!!!!!! what kind of music did David dance to? nobody ever thought of this. David was allmost naked according to the Bible, this kind of music is certainly not a blues or soul ballad rhythm. Think well folks. GOD ACCEPT ALL KINDS OF RHYTHM AND LYRICS PROVIDED THE WORDS AND INTENTION IS TO PRAISE GOD!!!
Christianity EtcRe: Bishop Mike Okonkwo Acquires Private Jet by Ganjaseed: 4:00pm On Jun 12, 2009
Purchasing a private Jet as a church is the most folish thing one will ever do, I have my reasons behind this. The church will spend more money to keep that Jet flying, think about the Pilot and the crew members, these guys will be paid salary because no pilot will fly you for free. Think of the insurance and tax every month. Think of the aviation fuel to run the engine, maitainers and other ownership obligations.

This will only make the house of the Lord poor and the innocent members of the church milked dry to keep the Jet moving. Come to think of it, where does he want to fly the jet to? that Jet cannot go to the interior villages where the gospel have never been heard because there is no airport where the plane will land. If he says to other countries, there are many flights going to those countries on commercial purpose and it is cheaper than having a private Jet.

The truth is that THESE GUYS ARE FAR FROM GOD
