Gboliwe: Buhari may be popular in the north and to a number of people but he is so very irrelevant. I think that is what Garth is talking about. I don't see any Patriotic Nigerian who would in honesty want a Buhari President in 2015. Sentiments aside, the man is irrelevant. That is my own opinion and it doesn't matter what anybody thinks of it.
What do you mean by irrelevant??

Shame on all those who maintain a Criminal Silence while the vultures feast on our meagre resources!!!
PoliticsRe: Keshi & GEJ - Any Forseen Similarity On Managing Expectations by GARRIx7(m): 6:41pm On Feb 14, 2013
donroxy: Nigerians are highly appreciative......if GEJ could give such Turn-around before 2015......trust Nigerians shall all come-out to sing his praise and encourage him for Second Term
Keshi's case is‎ a clear example of how to shut critics up!!

Instead of hiring attack dogs (Okukpe, Abati n Reno) to attack perceived enemies, GEJ should focus on performing.

Didn't we see how overnight Nigerians changed from Abusing Keshi to singing his praises from the rooftops!!

Didn't we see how Keshi and the boys transformed from villains to HEROs overnight!!!

After the successful outing of the eagles, has anyone come out to criticise Keshi's decisions or actions??

That's the Spirit of Nigerians!!!

If you've performed, you don't need goons running up and down on online forums like s e x - starved he-goats forcing spurious developmental claims down our throats!!
PoliticsRe: 2015: Keyamo Gears Up For Delta Governorship? by GARRIx7(m): 6:23pm On Feb 14, 2013
tomakint: The more reason we pray he gets there first, remember, 'different strokes for different folks' cool Oshiomole may be lucky, but Keyamo may not! Personally, I don't have issues with Keyamo, just my own piece of views on a warped system of government that is milking us dry! https://www.nairaland.com/964274/tale-country-multi-coloured-system-government
Oshiomole' case wasn't luck!!

If he's smart enough to win an election in Delta State then getting the house to his side is‎ gonna be a no-brainer!! The major obstacle (which I doubt if he will be able to overcome) is‎ winning the election.
PoliticsRe: 2015: Keyamo Gears Up For Delta Governorship? by GARRIx7(m): 6:19pm On Feb 14, 2013
the_ripper: Oshiomole started same way, pro-masses, activism and ish and now he is an active member of the cabal pushing for complete subsidy removal.

To know a man , put him in the position of Power.
Oshiomole is‎ a "MESSIAH" in Edo State. The statement you made shows you know next to nothing about what's happening in Edo State.

The people of Edo state are impressed with his performance so far!!

tomakint: Haahhahhahha you must be a clown, those you called PDP in the house, are just by mouth, he (Oshiomole) was able to buy them over, but picture a scenario where he couldn't achieve that, are you new to this country? cool
At the end of the day the day, Oshiomole was able to get them to his side. What makes you think Keyamo cannot do the same if he becomes the Governor??

Remember that in Politics THERE ARE NO PERMANENT ENEMIES. So should Keyamo win, the Legislators will in the interest of their Political careers shift their loyalty to him. Most will end up de-camping to the ruling party.

So I don't see the house posing a serious problem..

tomakint: You still don't get it do you? If Keyamo emerges for instance, perhaps under a different party (besides PDP) who are going to be in charge of Delta State House of Assembly? what about the local government chairmen and councillors? how much can he spend to upstage the PDP,if he emerges before you know it he is back in square one! Look deeply at this system of government (Presidential System) and tell me how you can really stamp out corruption (the hydra-headed monster ravishing us for the past 50 years) from the polity cool
Funny dude!!!

When Oshiomole became Governor, the majority in the house of assembly were PDP. Did that stop him from delivering??

Whether the majority in the house are in the opposition or not, a FOCUSED governor will still deliver!!

tomakint: May be that's what you take my post to be, but permit me to elucidate further that, this system of government will make even the assumed saints amidst us to steal. This system of government is really wasteful and allow for more loopholes
The first step in changing the system is‎ putting in the right people who have the capacity to effect such changes. Interestingly, going by his antecedents, Keyamo seems to be such a person.

Also note that one doesn't have to be a saint to develop a state. The likes of Fashola, Oshiomole, Chime, Akpabio etc MAY have a stain or two but one cannot deny the transformation these people have brought to their states...

tomakint: It seems you have the potentiometer of measuring people's innate actions, anyway let's wait and see. My position is, until he is privileged to be governor, till then!
Mr. Man why argue back and forth?? Someone who has been law-abiding and honest and has even been in the fore-front of the fight against corruption indicates interest in running for office and this is‎ what you said:

tomakint: No dulling, Keyamo must have his own share of the 'National Cake' cool
And your reason is‎:
tomakint: What gives you the impression that if he gets to where the 'real money' are, he will still be the same Keyamo you used to know undecided
Meaning you're already condemning him as one who's only interested in enriching himself. Sadly your condemnation is‎ mischievously baseless and unwarranted.

So if there's anyone who seems to be claiming to possess the "potentiometer of measuring people's innate actions" it's YOU. Yes you've measured Keyamo and have found him wanting already!!
PoliticsRe: 2015: Keyamo Gears Up For Delta Governorship? by GARRIx7(m): 4:49pm On Feb 14, 2013
tomakint: Nope, I am just curious as to why you so much believed and trust 'mere mortals' as if they are gods! What gives you the impression that if he gets to where the 'real money' are, he will still be the same Keyamo you used to know undecided
I evaluate people based on what is‎ known (past and present) and not what is‎ unknown (future). Interestingly, the future is‎ determined by our current and past actions.

What I know about Keyamo is‎ that he's an Anti-Corruption crusader. I cannot guarantee how he'll act when faced with "Real Money" but his past and current actions suggest that should he become a Governor, he'd be People-Oriented and transparent.

Aside from the fact that like all humans he's prone to being corrupt can you point to anything(his action) that suggests that he'd change if given power??

Lagos sacks 35 senior officials over certificate forgery

By OLASUNKANMI AKONI & MONSOOR OLOWOOPEJO

LAGOS—LAGOS State Government has sacked 35 of its civil servants, including senior executive officers, for securing employment into the State Civil Service with forged certificates, even as the appointments of 13 others were terminated for absenteeism.

Other offences of the sacked workers included misappropriation of funds, diversion of government money for personal use, defrauding the public, loss of government’s vehicles and absence from duty without permission.

It will be recalled that last year, the state government dismissed 174 officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, for corruption, overzealousness and others.

Vanguard gathered that those sacked were on grade level 07 to 12.

They include senior traffic officers, traffic superintendents, higher traffic superintendent, traffic officers II, higher statistics officer, senior accountant, senior executive officer, among others.

Most of the affected workers were discovered to have gained employment into the civil service with forged certificates during certificate verification carried out by the government.

The list of the sacked public officers was contained in a journal published by the state government.

It was also gathered that the affected staff had since been issued sacked letters before their names were published by the Office of the Head of Service in the publication.

It was gathered that the affected public servants were made to face the Personnel Management Board, PMB, the disciplinary body of the state government, which recommended their immediate sack.

Head of Service, Adesegun Ogunlewe, had earlier warned that the government would not tolerate acts of indiscipline and corruption among civil servants as government was bent on repositioning the civil service to meet up with the standard befitting of a mega city like Lagos.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State House of Assembly, has directed Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Mrs. Florence Oguntuase, to Implement the house resolution on the payment of salary arrears of the 24 Lagos veterinary doctors from 2003 to 2010.

The house gave the directive following earlier summon and appearance of Oguntuase on the floor of the House to make clarification over the resolution of the House on the salary arrears

wesley80: As a Deltan, what is/are the significance of this merger?
Are you aware that the strongest opposition party in Delta State is DPP(followed by the ACN)??

If the DPP joins this merger, then We'll have a more formidable opposition in the state with the ability to wrest power from the PDP which has failed Deltans.

Kudos to the personnel of the Nigerian consulate who stepped in to secure the release of the journalists. This incident however must be thoroughly investigated. We cannot keep having our citizens maltreated just like that. We are hearing of this because the victims are journalists.

What if they were poor Nigerians trying to make ends meet over there?? Would we have heard about their maltreatment??

Only God knows how many Nigerians they've killed without anyone hearing about it!!

PoliticsNigerian Journalists Brutalised By South African Policemen by GARRIx7(op): 11:14pm On Feb 13, 2013
S.A Police brutalise Nigerian journalists

Two Nigerian journalists were harassed, brutalised and detained for lack of good reasons by South African police in Johannesburg on Tuesday afternoon.

South Africa Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Debo Oshundun and Deputy Editor of the Sun Newspapers, John Joshua-Akanji were cornered by policemen when they were on their way to cover the departure of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations champions the Super Eagles, at the OR Tambo Airport, South Africa.

Joshua-Akanji told Goal.com about his ordeal at the hands of the South Africa Policemen.

“I thank God we are still alive because we could have been shot. I have never been in that situation in my life. I was dragged on the floor kicked and brutalised. I and John Joshua-Akanji were disposed of our phones, my keys and we couldn’t contact anybody. We were detained for two hours and I was really traumatised for the time the police dealt with us and still imagining it up till now”, the Weekend Editor of the Soccer Star disclosed.

Joshua-Akanji had to miss his South African Airways flight due to this unfortunate incident.

“I am perplexed and short of words to describe the way I felt during and after our ordeal in the hands of the policemen here. I have not experienced this in my whole life.

The police claimed that they stopped our car because the taxi we were in has a plate number with two different characters. Immediately they stopped us they removed the plate number. They lied that they have been trailing,” Oshundun said on Tuesday afternoon.

Lieutenant Colonel MF Tshabalala, station commander at the Sandringham Command South Africa Police service, SAPS, later apologised for the treatment meted out on the Nigeria journalists.

It took the intervention of the Nigerian Consulate in Johannesburg to secure the release of both men. There are no indication yet, if the Journalists will press for charges against the South African Police.

I watched a part of the session on NTA. The guy was actually furious!!!

It's a shame that David Mark's loyalty (as well as that of most senators) is to the Presidency and not to Nigerians. That explains why the Senate has been reduced to a "Rubber Stamp" establishment.

The house of Rep is far more vibrant and dynamic than the Senate, though still full of corrupt thieves....

PoliticsRe: Should GEJ Use Victor Moses And Ahmed Musa As Peace Ambassadors for Nigeria by GARRIx7(m): 1:21pm On Feb 13, 2013
Built2last: Sunday, February 10, 2013 is one day Nigerians the world over wouldn’t forget in a hurry, it was one night which had Nigerians holding their breath for over 90 minutes as we all anxiously watched to see what the eventual outcome of the final match between Nigeria and Burkina Faso would be. And after a gripping 94 minutes, Nigeria emerged as the Champion at the African Cup of Nations beating Burkina Faso 1-0, it was a moment of joyous ecstasy for every Nigerian born of a woman.

For 19 years, the Super Eagles of Nigeria had wobbled, wasted and writhed through the AFCON with no wins, perpetually breaking the heart of Nigerians and other foreigners who loved the Nigerian team, in fact the Super Eagles were unofficially renamed Super Chickens since for almost two decades we couldn’t fly.

This narrative changed as the Super Eagles wrenched victory against all odds, enmeshing Nigerians and Super Eagle lovers in extravagant jubilation, in fact millions of Nigeria began muting the idea of the Federal Government declaring Monday a public holiday to celebrate the victory properly (Trust Nigerians we love to celebrate). Well! That didn’t happen, the Federal Government couldn’t afford to cancel a full business day for celebration.

However thousands of Nigerians did put aside all business consideration on Tuesday morning as they thronged to the Nnamdi Asikwe International Airport to welcome the Super Eagles who arrived later that evening. The Airport was crowded with people from all walks of life ( Students, Artisans Businessmen, Government functionaries, Toddlers etc), many of them wearing the Super Eagles jersey, others waving the Nigerian flag, no one seemed to be in a hurry to go anywhere, all patiently waited for Super Eagles to touch down, during the wait all sorts of banters were traded on certain football personalities like Eboe of Ivory Coast who had boasted his team would take us down in the quarter finals and Bance of Burkina Faso who was hailed for “his very good looks” and “alluring hair style”. The waiting period soon became an outdoor comedy fiesta. At about 3:20pm the Eagles touched down to the thunderous applaud of eager fans, everything in the airport simply shut down under the tsunami of applause for the Super Eagles.

Word quickly spread that the Eagles had arrived and multitudes of Nigerians living close to the airport began trooping in to catch a glimpse of the Super Eagles. In minutes all adjoining roads to the airport was blocked due to traffic jam even though security operatives tried their best to clear the road in real time. The outpourings of people were beyond the crowd control skills of the operatives and as the Eagles finally made it out of the Airport, Nigerians who lived along the airport took to the streets, clutching flags in one hand and video cameras in the other.

All the Bus-stops, side-walks and pedestrian bridges along the Airport road brimmed with people and as the Super Eagles passed by every stop, the earth shook under the thunderous shouts and songs of jubilation for the Eagles. Even Policemen and other security operatives joined in the jubilation frenzy as many of them were busy using their phone cameras to capture the Super Eagles.

Abuja is one city whose residents are usually very lukewarm and cold especially when it comes to receiving important guests, in fact to convince residents to come out for any event or public show, one often had to rent them. But Tuesday’s crowd wasn’t rented for no one could possibly pay off such a mammoth crowd, it was a real crowd and the atmosphere and feeling was just surreal.

All my life I have never seen the kind of undivided energy, enthusiasm and camaraderie amongst Nigerians. Never! The roads were so jammed that it took the Eagles and others in the procession 3 hours to get to the main town from the Airport, under normal circumstances the journey from the airport to the town just 25 minutes. Any foreigner who visited Nigeria for the first time and was in Abuja to witness yesterday’s show of love would have a hard time believing that sectarian violence had gnawed ominously at the soul of this nation just months ago.

It then occurred to me that this potential energy of love and unity displayed yesterday could be quickly converted to the kinetic energy of peace and development.

To this end I suggest that President Goodluck Jonathan and his aides put up and organize a 1 week Peace tour with the Super Eagles across major Northern cities of Nigeria.

The President must use the euphoria of the Super Eagles victory that has united all and sundry to weave a peace narrative that endures. For a long time President Jonathan has been pilloried for not visiting the Northern States that have been ravaged by sectarian violence, this is his golden opportunity to do so and he must not let it pass by.

He must use the touching story of Victor Moses (whose parents were gruesomely murdered by Muslim extremists in Kaduna in 2002 when he was only 11, and who despite the terrible scars inflicted on him still played alongside Ahmed Musa and other Muslim players with patriotic zeal) to drive home the need and possibility of peaceful coexistence and tolerance.

The President and selected players like Ahmed Musa and Victor Moses must speak with passion unabated and in doing so they might just end up winning the hearts and minds of the North. Sent from my BlackBerry wireless device from MTN

Gboliwe: We don't need to argue further. You have doubts, I have a strong belief that the governor cannot be that arrogant or say that. I do not know the man aside what I hear and read and it majorly points that he isn't arrogant. I know a governor, infact governors who if it is reported they said such, I will accept. But Chime couldn't have said that.
grin

Madam you just spoilt ur argument with the highlighted!! You also exposed your limited comprehension ability. My statement which you highlighted simply means:

I DO NOT THINK CHANNELS TV LIED ABOUT THE STATEMENT CREDITED TO THE GOVERNOR..

You claim you only know the man based on what you hear and read. Now a reputable media outfit (a source of knowledge to you in the past) has credited a statement to the man, and you're denying. It means you only choose to believe whatever suits your already formed opinion of the Man. So even if you were shown a video of the man saying those exact words you'd still deny since you've already formed an unchangeable opinion of the man..

Isn't it obvious then that your "belief" is baseless and inconsistent??
