Hello Gazzuzz, I have been a follower of your thread for awhile now and i must commend the work you are doing here helping guys with their automobile issues. Its such a pity I'm not based in lagos, would have brought my car for a serious check up.

I drive a 2003 Honda Accord and its been giving me some issues lately and my mechanic has been playing some funny games suggesting different issues here and there which is getting on my nerves. The issue is that, each time i try to start my engine, it will refuse to start after several attempts say like 4-5 times, then it will start and when i try to raise it to move, it won't make a move. I'll have to put it off and then try to start it again after which like up to 5 times, it will then start and move with a serious vibration all over the car.

Another Issue is that, the car vibrates aggressively to the extent you will see the steering wheel vibrating. If i put on my AC, then the vibration will become worse. If i'm in a traffic and parked, the vibration will be so serious i myself will be vibrating along with the car.

This is some of the numerous problems i am facing.

This is the definitation of spiritual problems with a car. Its painful, i am not in lagos, would have brought it to your workshop for serious check up. I think someone else mentioned similar problem here. Please kindly give me an idea of what the problem is so i can face my mechanic squarely when he comes up with ridiculous reasons.

Please anyone know certified Honda specialist on this thread in Abuja, I need help after they replace the old ba3 with a new one at Honda place here in Abuja 2months ago, now I have to borrow ba3 each time before I go out. It's really embarrassing. The car is crv 2008, I have made sure the knot on the ba3 are tightened well when I put back the "dying" ba3 and apart from this I haven't noticed anything else. Please help

My tale is funny, my car - Hyundai Sonata 1998 was on its "own" when i decided to take it for a general engine and body wash.
For the past Two weeks now, it does not even start, Please help save a brother ooo. Several opinions have come up ..... i noticed the ignition coil getting hot, the engine at some point worked but was running on two plugs as against 4. Your expert advice is urgently required.... as i can only but wish that i could undo the washing event.....

Hi everyone, I just bought a 2004 Ford escape v6 from a friend of mine, she has used the car in Nigeria for 3yrs. The problem here is I would like to change the fluids in the car but my friend does not know what fluids are presently in car as she can't reach the mechanic that helped her with the last changes 2yrs ago

The transmission fluid look light brown or brownish red, smells bad

The engine oil looks black and smells awful

No coolant in the radiator reservoir, just water with rusty color.


I would like to put the car back in top shape, I have been reading a lot on this section and elsewhere but I am still confused.

TRANSMISSION

1. The recommend atf is mercon and I have decided to settle for pureguard atf that is mercon, mercon lv and mercon v compatible.
My fear is do I do a complete flush of the oil smelling atf (slight burnt smell when it's hot) or do I ask my mechanic to do drain and fill with about 10 quarts

Engine Oil

I have settled for milemaster semi synthetic 5w20 I found on konga, I don't want to go for full synthetic because I don't know what the previous engine oil is.
Also should I use one of these engine oil flush, the more I read about the more confused I am
I also settled for motorcraft oil filler.

Coolant

I can't find the Gold color HOAT coolant so I have decided to used OAT green freeztone coolant that is non alcohol based.

Radiator down, the module that controls fan has been butchered and unfortunately I can't get exact fan to buy in the market, so to ensure fan works with a thermostat I'll have to improvise.(thinking of in cooperating a thermostat switching device)

Moving to limp mode and other issues.

I took for repairs and was told they changed a sensor and it stayed behaving well but I went out of town on Saturday and noticed the problem has started again. What should I do?

I think am in the same dilemma, bought a rav4 2004 2.4L and changed the oil it came with to Visco 2000 20w50 and after three months I switched to Hardex 5w30 which is the recommended oil grade. My engine was flushed with a pressure pump of a sort. But after 3 days my engine started smoking whitish blue flame especially during morning hours or when not driven for a long time. I don't know why my engine produces light white smokes but disappears as soon as possible, but with the change of oil, my car idling noise is now hardly heard and superb. Pls Gazzuz what is the cause of the light smoking

Sir, please forgive my curiosity. Does resurfacing make the brake disc as good as new? Plus the the brake disc is always very hot after a good run with the car. A friend told me it's my calipers not returning properly. How true is it please?

Pontiac Vibe
The Pontiac Vibe began life as a Toyota Matrix twin and ended it as the answer to a trivia question: "What is the only Pontiac model to be produced for the 2010 model year?" That's right -- while all other Pontiac models went the way of the dodo after GM's 2009 bankruptcy fiasco, the Vibe stuck around for a last hurrah. It's gone now, though, and that's a real shame. Of all the compact cars that wore Pontiac badges, the Vibe was by far the best.
Smart packaging is what made this small wagon desirable, as the Vibe combined clean styling, a roomy interior and exceptional utility under one affordably priced roof. A peppy powertrain was another welcome feature. The fact that the Vibe also got above-average fuel economy and had a solid reputation for reliability only added to its appeal among budget-minded consumers.

There were two generations of the Pontiac Vibe. Both are distinctive in appearance without looking overdone and resemble a sporty four-door hatchback rather than a frumpy station wagon. The Vibe offered a lot of functionality for not a lot of money, and Toyota-sourced parts and powertrains counted as another point in its favor. Despite Pontiac's demise, the Vibe should enjoy a long life on the used-car market.

Most Recent Pontiac Vibe

Produced for 2009-'10 only, the second-generation Pontiac Vibe is the corporate twin of the Toyota Matrix. What this means for pre-owned models is that the Vibe has reliable Toyota genes and will likely provide years of dependable service. The Vibe was treated to distinct exterior styling, however, as well as its own trim levels and options.

Pontiac sold this Vibe in base, AWD and GT trim levels. Base Vibe models were front-wheel-drive only and had a 1.8-liter 132-horsepower four-cylinder engine and a torsion-beam rear suspension. AWD models had -- you guessed it -- all-wheel drive, as well as an independent rear suspension and an upgraded 2.4-liter four good for 158 hp. The sport-themed, front-wheel-drive GT had the more powerful 2.4-liter engine along with the independent rear suspension.

All models came standard with a five-speed manual transmission except for the AWD model, which could only be equipped with a four-speed automatic. A five-speed automatic was optional on the GT, while the four-speed automatic could be added to base models. Base Vibes could also be equipped with the 2.4-liter engine at extra cost, in which case the five-speed automatic replaced the four-speed on the options list.

Inside, this Vibe featured simple and intuitive gauges and controls. Build quality was good, with most of the interior bits and pieces sourced from Toyota. Thanks to the Vibe's elevated roof line, there was plenty of room for passengers. In the safety department, the Vibe came standard with antilock disc brakes, OnStar, stability control and a full complement of airbags.

In reviews, we noted that acceleration was sluggish in the base Vibe but peppy otherwise, especially in the GT, which wasn't noticeably weighed down by the all-wheel-drive system. Expect fuel economy of nearly 30 mpg or more on the highway in all models. The four-speed automatic was rather anachronistic for a new model, though the five-speed automatic was a satisfactory unit. Handling was capable in all trims and even somewhat entertaining in GT models.

Used Pontiac Vibe Models

The first-generation Pontiac Vibe was sold from 2003-'08. It was available in base and GT trim levels. Base Vibe models had a 126-hp 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and could be equipped with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (AWD). Non-AWD models were equipped with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission, both of which yielded adequate response in traffic and fuel economy in the low 30s. The AWD model was rated at 118 hp due to its different exhaust routing, and the four-speed automatic was mandatory. Acceleration was sluggish in the AWD Vibe, but it was still a useful option for buyers in harsh climates who needed a low-cost snow vehicle.

Aimed at a small niche of performance-minded consumers, the Vibe GT came with a Yamaha-designed high-revving 1.8-liter four-cylinder rated for 164 hp at a lofty 7,600 rpm. Sold in front-drive form with a six-speed manual transmission only, the GT was much quicker than the base Vibe, provided the engine was kept on boil. Ride and handling dynamics, however, were largely the same as in other Vibe models -- adequately comfortable and responsive for commuting purposes, but underwhelming from an enthusiast's perspective.

Other than the elimination of the GT and AWD models after 2007, the first-generation Pontiac Vibe received minimal changes. However, there are some equipment differences of note if you're shopping for a used one. A DVD-based navigation system was offered as an option from 2003-'05, but Pontiac discontinued it for 2006. Used-car shoppers interested in this feature will likely have difficulty locating models with it installed, as it was a rare selection when new. Also, while front seat-mounted side airbags were always optional on the first-generation Vibe, full-length side curtain airbags weren't available until the 2005 model year. That was also the first year that buyers could get stability control, but availability was limited to front-wheel-drive base Vibes equipped with the automatic transmission.

Still awaiting progress on the "evil" Jag. Let's give it some serious attention this week to cleanse it off it's spiritual problems.

Radiator removal Drain the coolant, take out the electric fan and everything bolted to the shroud like wiring and aux coolant pump etc..., pull the bumper cover for easier access and the mounts up top that bolt the core in place. Remove and cap trans lines and remove rad hoses. Unbolts the power steering, condensor assemblies and tie strap them to hold partial togwether in place for reassembly Pull radiator.

They source their transmissions from many manufacturers, from Jatco to Aisin to ZF to GM. They only came up with theirs in 2013, making them one of the very few auto makers with their own transmissions. I would be personally scared of their cars fitted with any of those.
