chamber2: good day gurus
i seriously need help as i am completely baren of ideas. After buying fuel from a gas station on friday the 10th of july, i discovered that my HONDA 2009 MODEL was jerking and was exhuming some whitish smoke. the acceleration became weak, engine icon on the dashboard startrd blinking continously. The check VSA sign came up also. I drove it to the office but the was behaving as if the entire engine was to breakdown.
i called my mechanic who later diagnosised that the engine is faulty and requires replacement or repair which will cost 100k or so.
i am so frustrated as this car has never given me an issue since i bought it. i knw very little about cars as this is my first.
i need help from the gurus in the house. i live in the easten part of naija and appreciate recommendations as to where to get this car fixed. Its a V6 engine. thanks all If in lagos contact me via this number 08023251039. Free consultancy. Baryoh007: Salute Gazzuzz, I 've been silently following your thread and I appreciate it. I have a Lexus rx330 2005, when I bought it I noticed that when I turn on the ignition the fan starts working and when i asked the dealer, he told me when the vehicle was brought in the a/c didn't work and they had to connect the wire directly into the compressor and creating a relay for it. I saw all these myself. A saw pin wire that is supposed to be attached to the fan junction hanging and when I put it in the fan stops working and a/c releases gases as if it's overfilled. I have attached pictures. Please how can I get my ac to be working just the way factory made it. Thank you. We can't do much on NL, physical inspection is required. Location? |

Ford expedition 2004 Got really stumped on the rough idling and hesitation on the 4.6liter v8 engine, and decided to leave it for a day to research some more. I totally ignored the rattling noise the engine made and felt it was engine wear until I read this article. Also I noticed oil was non existent on the dip stick when I checked and had to inform the owner. It totally explained the rattling and rough idling In 1991 Ford Motor Company introduced their first modular V-8 engine. This was for the 1991 Lincoln Town Car and the cylinder displacement was 4.6 liters. The engine is popular and is produced in a number of displacements. They also build two, three and four-valve per cylinder versions with different cylinder heads
The Ford 4.6 liter and 5.4 liter engines power millions of SUV, truck and car models. The Ford Modular engine is well engineered, but it is designed for specific lubrication. The oil viscosity and the type of oil filter can mean the difference between reliable service and an expensive repair.
Why the proper oil is so important
The modular engine is an overhead cam design. Two very long timing chains keep the camshafts in time with the crankshaft. Because of the length of the chains, guides are needed to reduce movement. They also use a hydraulic tensioner to keep each chain tight. Oil pressure moves the tensioner which controls slack in the timing chains. These components rely heavily on proper lubrication from the engine’s oil.
Ford originally specified a 5W30 motor oil for the engine. They soon found this caused oil consumption and possible catalytic converter problems. This caused a change in the specification to a 5W20 or a 5W20 synthetic blend. It is also believed the lower viscosity oil can travel to the timing chain tensioners more quickly. The oil filter they designed for the engine also has a specific anti drain-back valve and for good reason.
The anti drain-back oil filter
With a substandard oil filter the engine oil may drain back to the oil pan when the engine is turned off. A lack of oil pressure means the tensioners cannot immediately tighten the timing chains on startup. When this occurs, slack in the chain tends to jerk and the plastic timing chain guides can break.
The problem of broken guides on the timing-chain
We see many Ford modular engines with broken timing chain guides. The first symptom is usually a rattle on the start up. Because the timing chains are so long, they are supported by plastic guides. The timing chain is kept tight by force from the hydraulic tensioners. With the proper lubrication and the right oil filter this works very well for a great many miles. Problems begin when improper viscosity oil and substandard oil filters are used.
With a substandard oil filter the engine oil may drain back to the oil pan when the engine is turned off. A lack of oil pressure means tensioners cannot immediately tighten the timing chains on startup. When this occurs slack in the chain tends to jerk and the plastic timing chain guides can break.
Symptoms of a broken timing chain guide can range from a rattle noise on startup (not always) to rough idle to a check engine light. This engine was fitted with the proper Motorcraft filter after the noise started. Unfortunately it was too late to prevent an expensive repair. The guide on the left bank is broken and the check engine light has come on.

https://www.agcoauto.com/content/images/engine/4.6L.JPG A broken chain guide is apparent, once removed and compared with a new part. The guide most often breaks where the mounting bushing passes through. This allows the chain to drop down and often it starts to rattle, until the tensioner removes the slack.
When the timing chain guide (1) breaks, the chain drops down. The chain tensioner (2) attempts to take up the excess slack in the timing chain. When the tensioner piston extends, the chain is pulled tight. Removing this slack on one side of the chain also causes the cam sprocket (3) to rotate and change camshaft timing on that bank.
Rotating one cam sprocket disturbs valve timing relative to the other side of the engine. This can cause a rough idle can set diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0300 and codes for lean and rich operation. Many times these engines come to us, after having been mis-diagnosed elsewhere. Needless part replacement has often been a further waste of money. Repair involves timing cover removal and replacement of the chains, guides, tensioners, etc. Changing to the proper oil viscosity and a Motorcraft oil filter, prevents an expensive repeat of the problem.
Replacing the timing chains
To replace the chains and guides, we must be certain to align the camshafts and crankshaft. If valve timing is not properly set, the valves may hit the pistons and cause severe engine damage. Timing a Ford modular engine is not a simple task. Articles on the internet state, not turning the camshafts or crankshaft allows replacing the chains without timing the engine. This is very dangerous at best and may cost an engine. It also fails to recognize cam timing is already off when a guide breaks. https://www.agcoauto.com/content/images/engine/timing_chain_4.6L_new_broken_guides.jpg

adanny01: I hope they didnt remove the inner cups when the car was still hot. If thats what happened, just plan for a new gear box. Changing only the bearing wouldnt cause any problems unless the pull out the inner cups while its still hot Boss that thing still baffles me! New gearboxes are really sensitive now. Last Cv joint replacement I did on a 2010 camry, I kept the car for 2days. Day 1 to cool second day install. |

Galads: I just changed my inner shaft bearing, after driving for like 10km, I noticed I need to press the pedal hard till the RPM increases real high and still yet it doesn't pick fast. Once it picks, before the gear 1 changes to 2, the rpm increases and and it jecks before changing. Could it be the inner bearing I fix isn't good? Or isn't fixed well Scan or check around gear, there might be a disconnected solenoid, or worse, your transmission oil might have leaked out. |

Ford explorer 2004 Fuel pump pressure test without installing gives a almost 5bars , didn't know the v8 used so much pressure. Well in contrast to 2bar/1.5bar that is settled With fuel tank still on the floor and fuel pump installed car is started and revs well, but rough idles, a quick spark plug change, o2 sensor replacement and injectoer service in the morning, and this baby is out of here P.s warning, never connect your fuel pressure tester directly to a fuel pump, its best connected in series with the pressure release valve.

swaggerkid: i have a 2005 corolla s, which is very boring, the 1.8L 4cyl engine lacks power but at least it tries , am thinking of some mods, am getting some new set of wheels i might lower the suspension also going to buy an after market intake... but my prob is on the exhaust system, i want it to be a dual exit straight pipe but i dont even know how to go about it, making a dual exit from an i4 engine , am going to delete the muffler and resonator but am keeping the catalyst and sensors i dont care about fuel economy What's the aim? Power gain? Better remove the catalyst and install a turbo charger re map the engine ECU, then I know you are ready. This one nah cosmetics. |
