Firstly, a friend suggested that since the car was imported from the us and carries only one cooling fan, that I will have to work a double fan and also reconnect them to start on ignition rather automatic as the auto sys(follow come) might result in over heating when in long hours of traffic......

I fixed my leaking Silencer and I noticed the water consumption has reduced, so im guessing it myt be the leaking exhaust that has been consuming my fuel and water

Start with a scan.

Not just an engine scan.

That is a typical 4cylinder engine block

If you look closely at the first pic you will notice tiny passages (small holes) there are 2 oil passages (or more) and the rest are coolant passages, designed to keep the engine running cool.

Next pic, cylinder head

Notice the head and the block are separated by a thin gasket, now when you have a blown gasket there's a strong possibility of the following.


1. Loss in pressure

2. Oil mixing in coolant

3. Coolant mixing in oil

4. Oil burning resulting in white smoke

5. Coolant shortage (coolant being burnt in combustion chamber)

The only thing separating, oil, coolant and a mixture of compressed air/petrol is a thin gasket once it's bad, any of the 5 things could happen, including a hydrolock.

Ball joint
Sway bar links
Sway bar bushings.
Front brake pads.


The bearings in the wheel hubs will be replaced, instead of changing entire hub

Taking the gear box down

Corrola 2004 sorry didn't detail the new parts fixed but complementary wash and car is good to go.

Pressure line installed and primary leak has stopped. Pressure line is a bit longer but will suffice.

I can see a light at the end of the tunnel for this car.

Next will be accessing the fuel pump to check the fuel filter, alignment and balancing of the tyres and a well deserved wash.

The resurfacing should eliminate vibration when brakes are depressed, along with a new set of original brakepads.


The front suspension is yet to be fully disassembled but I already foresee bad swaybar links.

Taking front suspension down.


The clamp in the pic is to compress the piston of the caliper so brake pad change is done with ease.

The impact wrench is to make life easier.

Back to xterra, pressure line down.

Unfortunately I can't get a new pressure line to buy in the whole of ladipo neither could I get a tokumbor one. Left with the potion of cutting out the leaking parts and welding another part.

Bearing was dry and caused some really sqeeky noises when steering was turned, they will be greased.



The spring compressor I prefer using is the belt. Its kazeemy but very efficient.

Front right suspension taken down completely.

Bad components are the shock absorber,

Balljoints and swaybarlinks.

Let's move on to a camry 2009 V6 SE.

Problems noticed.


Noisy suspension, especially the front right side. Also owner wants the car height raised a bit.

Xterra powersteering pressure line removal underway.


Unfortunately there's also a secondary leak from the steering gear assembly.
