Pinoralia: I have a 1997 Volkswagen Golf (Golf 3) "Automatic transmission", I have driven for 3+ month on Nigerian road. Of late, i discover that the RPM goes as high as 3000rev/min before it shifts to gear 2 against 2000rev/min that it used to before shifting to gear 2. I have decided to service the the gear. I don"t know the recommended ATF for the car. I m so happy my mechanic confessed he is sure of the dextron gradeto be used too. Kindly help me out if you know it. Thanks.DO NOT ADD REGULAR (DEXTRON) ATF INTO THE UNIT!! NEVER ADD ANY AFTERMARKET "FIXES" OR SEALANTS!!! Volkswagen introduced its own specifications in mid '90s. Since then this classification system is the starting point for selecting the technically suitable products for all vehicles manufactured by the VW group (Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda). This is your part number for the recomended oil (part#G052162A2) its a fully synthetic transmision oil. Ask around for it I hope you can get it. VW G 009 317 Gear oil for mechanical and automatic 6 gear transmissions. VW G 052 145 A2 Special synthetic gear oil with SAE 75W90 viscosity for front and rear differentials, including limited slip differentials. VW G 052 162 A2 Special ATF with viscosity modifier. Suitable for 4 and 5 gear ZF automatic transmissions. Not suitable for 6 gear transmissions. VW G 052 171 SAE 70W75 viscosity gear oil. VW G 052 171 A2 Special gear oil designed for the manual transmissions of cars with transverse engines. VW G 052 175 Special working fluid for Haldex clutches. Developed by Haldex and Statoil. VW G 052 178 Gear oil with SAE 75W viscosity. VW G 052 180 A2 Special gear oil for Audi Multitronic transmissions. VW G 052 190 A2 Special VW gear oil for Multitronic CVT transmissions. VW G 052 726 Monograde gear oil with SAE 75W viscosity. VW G 052 798 SAE 70W75 viscosity gear oil. VW G 052 911 Audi specification for transmissions used with longitudinal engine configurations. Products meeting this specification are of SAE 75W90 viscosity and also meet API GL-5 criteria. VW G 052 990 Special ATF for automatic transmissions combined with differentials. VW G 055 005 Special ATF for VW automatic transmissions and transaxles. VW G 055 145 Transmission oil with 3% Sturaco additive. VW G 055 162 Special ATF for VW automatic transmissions and transaxles. Beautiful4u: Hi Mr. GazZ, I changed the four spark plugs in my toyota camry 1998 since then the engine only comes on when I start the car six to seven times especially in d morning. My mechanic said is not d fuel pump. Pls I need your help. ThanksSounds like a fuel pressure problem. Pump could be good but you might have a bad fuel regulator or a leaking case, but ideally with the right equipment you can rule out fuel pressure within minutes. (Fuel pressure tester) Also check your coolant temp sensor The one with the green socket, if its not properly connected or if the cables are broken or joined together you will have same kind of problem you mentioned. Ideally if you have a "check" light illuminated on your dash take your vehicle for a scan. |

On a recent trip to Rwanda, my luggage was searched at the border, and the authorities confiscated some of my belongings. No, I wasn't trying to smuggle drugs or weapons. The offenders? Three plastic bags I'd use to carry my shampoo and dirty laundry. You see, non-biodegradable polythene bags are illegal in Rwanda. In 2008, while the rest of the world was barely starting to consider a tax on single-use plastic bags, the small East African nation decided to ban them completely. https://i.guim.co.uk/w-460/h--/q-95/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2009/6/29/1246293026869/UK-plastic-bag-ban-001.jpg A shopper carries her shopping with free supermarket shopping bags. Photograph: ANDY RAIN/EPA At Kigali International Airport, a sign warns visitors that plastic bags will be confiscated. Agents from the Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) cut the plastic wrapping off negligent travellers' suitcases. Throughout the country, businesses have been forced to replace plastic carrier bags with paper ones. The ban was a bold move. It paid off. As soon as I set foot in Rwanda from neighboring Uganda, it struck me. It's clean. Looking out the window of the bus that was taking me to Kigali, the capital, I could see none of the mountains of rubbish I'd grown accustomed to in other African countries. No plastic carrier bags floating in the wind or stranded on a tree branch. Upon arrival in Kigali the contrast is even more evident. With its lovely green squares and wide boulevards, the Rwandan capital is one of the most beautiful cities in Africa. And it's immaculate. Enough to teach a lesson to scruffy – albeit beloved – Western metropolises like New York or London. And the ban on plastic bags is just the start for Rwanda. It's all part of the Vision 2020 plan to transform the country into a sustainable middle-income nation. Eventually, the country is looking to ban other types of plastic and is even hinting at the possibility of becoming the world's first plastic-free nation. Its constitution recognizes that "every citizen is entitled to a healthy and satisfying environment." It also underlines each citizen's responsibility to "protect, safeguard and promote the environment". Throughout the world, many initiatives to reduce or ban the use of non-biodegradable plastic bags have been halted because of economic concerns. In England, for example, there is ongoing concern that a 5p levy on single-use carrier bags could harm small businesses. Still reeling from a horrific genocide which resulted in the deaths of over 800,000 people in 1994, Rwanda could have dismissed the plastic ban as an unnecessary hindrance for its developing economy. It could have opted for a simple levy on plastic carrier bags, as have many other American cities. But the authorities' main concern was the way in which plastic bags were being disposed of after use. Most were being burned, releasing toxic pollutants into the air, or left to clog drainage systems. Knowing it lacked the basic facilities to sustainably manage plastic waste, Rwanda devised a clever strategy to turn the ban into a boost to its economy. The authorities encouraged companies that used to manufacture plastic bags to start recycling them instead by providing tax incentives. The policy also created a market for environmentally friendly bags, which were virtually non-existent in the country before the ban. Now in its sixth year, the policy has proved efficient, if not perfect. Rwanda is starting to struggle with a lucrative black market for the shunned plastic bags. The excessive use of paper bags is also starting to raise concerns. But the mere fact that a developing country facing tremendous challenges has managed to enforce such groundbreaking legislation should make us wonder what the western world could achieve if the political will really existed. anochuks08: went for a scan and got ISO 9141-2. The person that did the scan said its the injector mouth. the image of what he pointed out is the 3rd picture posted by gazzuzzIso 9141-2 is not a scan result, its a n obdII protocol. I hope your problem has been solved? |
Title is misleading. |
Mayydayy: ok.This one you are using style to book space. |
ZIMDRILL: you are misleading the guy even when the car is learning your driving pattern, revs or idle speed shouldnt drop at allmeaning what? Bossmd: Recently I noticed this phenomenon, when I'm driving and I come to a temporary stop, say a traffic light with the gear on 'D' and my leg on the break with AC on, I notice that the rpm drops to about 500rpm and at this point the car will begin to vibrate until I accelerate before the vibration will stop. If I stop again with the gear in 'Drive' the same thing happens until I accelerate again. One thing I realise is that this vibration always occurs when the rpm drops to around 500rpm. And yesterday I noticed the "Check Engine" Light is on.This is most likely what is happening with the idle on your Camry: Over time their is a build up of deposits in the throttle body that will slowly restrict air flow. If nothing was done the engine idle would slowly become lower and lower. The computer will adjust for the lower idle using its idle control system. Over time the computer will "learn" a new "base idle". When the battery goes dead or is disconnected the new "base idle" is lost from the computer memory. Once the "new" base idle is lost the engine will not idle properly until the computer can relearn the new base idle. This should happen much sooner than 100 drive cycles. One way to speed this process up is to clean the deposits from the throttle body using a spray type parts cleaner and a rag. With the throttle body clean the base idle should be much closer to the computers original base idle and the engine should idle almost normally until the computer can relearn its "new" base idle". |
TCD: I turn off the engine, wait one min, depress the break pedal its initially soft then becomes harder and stiff after when depressed. It seems fine but Please listen for any hissing sound from your brakebooster |
gazzuzz: At least eight Ebola patients in Guinea and Nigeria have beaten the odds. They have recovered and been sent home. In past outbreaks, the death rate has been as high as 90 percent. In Guinea so far, about 60 percent of the 157 suspected cases have ended in death, so far 4 persons have died from ebola in nigeria.https://media.npr.org/assets/img/2014/04/10/ebola_wide-18cdacb2d33c463c092901743877bf3c5e868045-s3-c85.jpg Source;http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2014/04/11/301464924/how-a-patient-can-recover-from-ebola |

TCD: I did the break test..it goes stiff as you said. What are the signs of a vacum leak?Stiff when? Are your brakes harder than usual? |
Bossmd: So in this case if vehicle was manufactured in USA and engine came from Japan and no calibration was done prior to mounting the engine, what are your likely suggestions on things that should be done now since vehicle wasn't calibrated to match engine configurations? The mechanical parts are the same. Just scan and calibrate like most people have suggested, or go back to your original throttle body. |

Bossmd: @Gazzuzz is it also possible that due to the engine change the car ECU is trying to get accustomed to the new engine? When replacing engine its best to scan vehicle and callibrate, the engine you bought is 2AZ but might have slightly different parts from the original engine. E.g a camry 2007 from canada or the u.s will have slightly different parts from a camry produced in asia. Most of the engines I buy in ladipo have asian inscriptions on their timing belt and timing chain replacement stickers meaning they are of asian origin most likely japan. This does not mean all engines in ladipo are from japan, it just depends on where the parts and the container originated from. |
TCD: hi Gazzuzz, I hear a hissing sound when I turn off the engine and open the bonnet of my car with 2AZ-FE engine after driving, its brief and stops. Always wondered what that is. Usually thought its normal. Is this a sign of vacumm leak? There is no check engine light in my dashboard."AFTER" you turn off your car? When engine is off wait 1min then step on your brakes they should be soft for a few seconds then stiff afterwards, if this does not happen the hissing sound may be comming from a leaking servo (brake booster). |
Check or replace oxygen sensors on bank 1 sensor 1 and bank 1 sensor 2, also clean out or replace all your spark plugs, check crankshaft position sensor might be loose or defective. Hope this helps. |
Did you recently change battery? Or disconnect battery before this happened? If yes, keep driving for a while your car will Re-learn and the rpm will correct its self without you noticing, also scan to see what the dtc code refers too, finally listen for any hissing sounds and vacuum leaks. |
3rd is good |
@ 1.5m? What's wrong with it? |
loptos: Thanks Gazzuss, only the brakelight indicator show on and stable till the truck is switch offHave vehicle scanned with a high end scanner that can scan body modules. |
Babasuwe is a living reason to believe in "traditional medicine and african magic" fed govt should give him a consent form to fill, find a willing ebola infected patient (patient has nothing to loose) and isolate both of them and come back after 21 days. |
anochuks08: Please I need your assistance auto gurus. My 1999 Rav4 increases its RPM on its own. In the morning, it might idle at 1000 rpm, it will be steady without any rough idle, when I drive off and lets say on reaching a traffic and I switch my gear selector to neutral, it goes high from 1600 to 1800. I might be forced to go back to drive so as to reduce its RPM. Lets say after the days' work, it will idle at 800 to 700. My mechanic doesn't know what to do cos all he does is to manually adjust the RPM to 1000 anytime I come, but as soon as I leave, it adjusts its RPM on its own. Please help, all contributions are welcome. ThanksYour 1999 rav4 engine should have a 3s-fe engine, normally when you start your car in the morning your engine rpm will be high (about 1000rpm~12000rpm) in about 5-10mons it would have dropped to normal (700~800rpm). Provided your thermostat is NOT removed and your fans are not blowing constantly you should expect normal RPM in 5-10mins. Unfortunately most car users in nigeria remove their thermostats and put their fans on full speed and this might cause a delay b4 your RPM returns to normal. Your coolant temp sensor(pics attached) tells the "brain box" the current temp of the engine, if it constantly reports a cool temp the rpm will continue to run high and the engine will continue to run rich until it can achieve a temp of about 82degrees Celsius. Your car is also fitted with an idle air speed valve(pics attached), which is located on the throttle body, the valve adjusts the rpm of your engine by regulating vacuum from the intake. The idle speed valve gets dirty after a while and as a result gets stuck. The valve is controlled by the "brain box" Throttle body(last pic)White coloured component=(IACV) My recommendations Run a scan on your vehicle Check for any leaking vaccum pipes or hoses Check that your coolant temp sensor is connected properly and is functional. Open and service idle speed valve,( all that is required is a can of carburettor cleaner.) Replace if its defective (3,000 max) Best of luck.

Nice tips. Me I don't take chances once I come down I warn the atendant "no try anything funny or els" I watch from begining to end then leave. |
Iv never seen it done! I know there are women out there that are up to the task! |
blowjanet: My brother thank you.is this true cuz I asked around and 2001 cost 800k. This car matter don tire me,2001 car still costing almost a million.I did a small search and yes this car still goes for between 800-1M you might have to add a little more. |
What a waste!!! |
