* what Is likely to be the disadvantage of the old spring?
* how reliable is the tokunbo shocks?

Number 1,2,3 can be solved by "driving slow" when within city, saves you from a lot of scratches and dents. Number 4 made me laugh but if you were looking straight instead of sideways u woulndt have seen the driver passing by. Number 5, well its more of a nigerian bad habit.

Op go to a car stand price a car if you cannot afford it keep saving until you can get your dream car. Buy what you can see and feel this virtual thing has too many down sides.

There are people with good stories about tripple A, and there are those with horrible ones its a gamble and you might get burnt.

One4me: Hello Gazzuzz,

This is urgent please!

I have a Nissan Almeria 1999. Its served me well all this while and l take good care of it too.

Recently, the battery went down and my wife moved another battery to it but since then, the car could not start. IT WILL BE DOING THE NORMAL SOUND AS IF IT WANT TO START BUT WILL NOT PICK UP AND FIRE. ITS NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE.
Mechanic said to buy another and change the coil which we did. Still would not start

Again, mechanic said we should buy new plug, we did but still will not start
They checked fuel supply (by using fuel from a Jerrycan directly into still) , still would not start.
We keep changing one thing or the other, in a trial-and-error style, its costing me money but still vehicle is not PICKING UP

No, someone said it is the SECURITY (the one that came with it originally from Nisaan; we did NOT put any additional security of our own).
They suggested we have to "RESET' it by kind of 'flashing" with your kind of tool (get error codes and reset it).

My question is:
1) Is the above diagnosis TRUE?
2) Can you do these for me?

Car is in Ebutte Metta area of Lagos Mainland.
Cheers.
We spoke on the phone, I hope the terminals of your battery were not mistakenly reversed while changing the battery? If that happenen you might have fried your ecm(brain box).
Another posibility is vehicle is presently immobilized, for that you will require a diagnostic tool to sort it out.

Let me know how it works out.

Car Talk › Re: Need A Panel beater by GAZZUZZ(m): 8:17pm On Aug 21, 2014
You want this car to look sharp again, consider replacing.

* Bonnet
* bumper
* ac condenser
* front grill
* Probably radiator.

And I think you need a good Panelbeater not a mechanic at the moment.

Please do not drive the vehicle until you fix the leaking transmission fluid.

* Every car owner should try and own his own diagnostic tool.

* Good services do not usually come cheap.

* bluetooth ELM327 scanners have limited functionality and will not even connect to serveral makes of vehicles. (E.g peugeot 406)

* No one likes paying for a scan without getting the actual work done, in that case make an arrangement with the individual for a comprehensive job.

Peace.

Autos › Re: Please Advise Me On Car To Buy by GAZZUZZ(m): 11:06am On Aug 21, 2014
Dude stick with the sciena 1999 model and get some one with car experience to check it out for you, the car has cheap and available parts in comparisim with other models in its class and its very durable. And 650k you should find a decent one without any mechanical faults.
The downside to the sciena is its v6 engine, in relation to city driving, not a very economical choice.

Also consider the toyota picnic a bit smaller than the sciena durable and has detachable seats at the rear with a 2.0 liter 3s-fe engine. Very good on fuel.

Issues with thermostat have been overflogged on NL cartalk. Restore your themostat and set your fans back to their original settings. Ensure you have no coolant leaks and car should run fine.

Bossmd: Honestly I think it's better for one to just get his own scanning tool. I called that no for scanning and the dude said he'll collect 7k just to scan my car, imagine. It's not as if he will fix any issues oh, and the scanner may not even interprete the codes sef. Taah!

Some Scanners cost just 14k which will become your property and you can use anytime.
I don't think you are being fair to mayor2013, not every one scans with a 14k scanner, some of the scanners I use cost more than 350k, and its not just about scanning a car, interpreting the results requires knowlede and experience you can't develop it over night. Buying your own scanner is a good idea infact I encourage every car user to have one, but a 25k scanner will only scan your engine module in most japanese cars,scanning transmision might be vague in some cases.

I know of a lot of workshops what would charge much more if you took your vehicle there, and would charge seprately for the repair work, and you might have to wait a while.

With a vehicle tracker vehicle can be tracked and diabled by 9 other persons (assuming your phone is snatched) I feel the tracker is the best way to secure a car. Infact install 2 in different locations, 1 as a decoy the other as backup.

Car Talk › Re: Causes Of Windscreen Glass Shattering On Its Own Accord? by GAZZUZZ(m): 9:25pm On Aug 19, 2014
Siena: The 2003 Honda Accord rear screen, like the windshield is bonded. By this, I mean it's not the regular rubber-sealed glass, that is pulled into place with a length of cord.

Bonded screens are structural, they help maintain rigidity of the body shell.

01) The screen will break, if the frame / recess is distorted, and the glass is forced to fit.
02) The screen will break, if the wrong bonding agent is used, and it dries rigid, thus allowing no "flex".
03) The screen will break, if the chassis is distorted, and the vehicle is parked on uneven ground.
04) The screen will break, if the chassis is cracked, and the suspension is too stiff, causing the bodyshell to distort.
05) The screen will break, if the old bonding agent was not removed, and there were uneven spots, putting strain on the glass.
06) The screen will break, if you've slept with your neighbour's wife, prompting him to strike your screen with a hammer.
07) The screen will break, if you have unpaid debts, prompting your creditors to strike your screen with a hammer.

You need to get your car checked by a pro, for possible causes 01 - 05.
You need to do some soul searching, for possible causes 06 - 07.

I wish you all the best.
