Just completed bauchi-asaba-lagos-asaba-lagos. Will be doing lagos-bauchi on monday, I hear a bridge in ondo is broken so traffic is diverted. I intend to go via south east to get to the north, to avoid the detour. EnsurE all your papers are up to date especially custom duty papers. Best of luck.

pragmatistm: But gazzuzz you never commented on my car's issue. Try and comment now, please.
Been really busy, but so far every one is on point when it comes to your problem,
Start from easy to hard

Harness(wires that lead to your crank sensor)
The sensor its self(google how to test a ckp)
The timing belt(set crank shaft to top dead center then check timing marks)

I'm sure b4 you finish all these problem should have shown its self.

If you are good at using a multimeter call me ill put you thru on how to test the sensor.

Modified: I just thought of somthing if there was any mechanical work done on your car there a possibility your flywheel is wobling or out of place, have it checked

chukel: The knock sensors probably were bad long before u bought it while previous owner was using it.
That sounds very logical, the car got stuck in 3gear without the driver noticing and he was probably doing 6000rmp at 120km/hr, that's an engine killer!

(upstream a/f sensor) that will solve the black sooth on the plugs, fix the bad fuel mileage.
(Idle control malfunction) will fix stalling and erratic rpms.

Note: your 1999 camry does not use an MAF, intead it uses MAP, and it does not have any servicable parts. Just ensure the vacuum hose is fitted properly, or if your in doubt just replace it, a tokumbor one costs 1k-1.5k.

Please i just became a member and would be glad if any one could offer some advice on how to solve a p1135 code on a toyota hylander 2001 model. Any advice would be highly appreciated.
Air fuel ratio sensor bank 1 sensor 1, AF sensors are also a form of oxygen sensors. Check the harnes if it is connected properly and if the harness is fine replace the sensor.

Car Talk › Re: Custom Officers And Registered Vehicles by GAZZUZZ(m): 7:14am On Sep 09, 2014
Mboi: Please I've been looking for who has an answer to this; do custom officers on the highways have the right to stop already registered vehicles and demand for the custom papers?
Most times I've travelled, these men stop me and ask for my custom papers used in clearing the vehicle from wharf. My cousin and many other people said they do not have the right even if I just registered the vehicle yesterday.

So please guys who knows the right answer to this with proof.
Thanks..
Do they have the right? I guess so my friend who works in customs office told me they can demand for custom duty for a car less than 7years from when it was registered.
If you don't have the papers with you, you will have to have speak long Grammar, make some phone calls, or part with a little cash 1-5k depending on your bargaining power.

P.s if your custom duty is fake DO NOT SHOW THEM just use the I left it at home line and try and beg/settle your way out of It.

OP I think you should give more details, engines don't just knock like that....
Top9jajamz: Hello Gentlemen,
I recently acquired a 2001 Lexus Rx300 from Cotonou.
after the normal servicing, the car was used for somedays before it developed the fault described in the next paragraph.
The car suddenly stopped moving with warning. All efforts to start the car proved abortive. All the dashboard lights would go off and the engine wouldn't roll.
I thought it was battery so I used another battery,Same thing.
I got a roadside mechanic to check it out but He said the Engine had "knocked"
He came to this conclusion after disconnecting the Kickstarter and tried rolling the engine with a spanner.
Please can someone who has experienced this tell me if the Mechanic is right. Can the Engine just die without giving warning.
Last.Please recommend a Good Lexus Mechanic. Ojeusmack@yahoo.com

born2fuck: Greed kills faster than Ebola, even for her to buy the car for that amount? She is a criminal even if the car was stolen or not. I have been on olx for sometimes trying to purchase ride too, I have seen many good cars that worth more than what I wanted to pay and they are place below the real value , because I felt my money doesn't worth the price of the value, I didn't even bother to check in, what look to good to be true is false. The car is stolen and the person that purchased the car is number one criminal, because she rushly and quickly drop money before those guy change their mind
I buy cars all the time, and there are certain conditions when a seller is desperate to fufill a particular need and decides to sell his or her car at a ridiculous price so it sells quick, in situations like this its very important to know how the seller got the car and ensure the deal is clean, there are countless threads in auto sections for nigerian used cars at very low prices that would look suspicious but if you inspect and verify you might find out they are genuine sales.
Also there are cars that have given the owner re-current problems like transmission and ecm replacement and the owner is tired of replacing these components and after the umpteenth placement they decide to sell b4 it brakes down again.
Calling the Op a criminal cause she bought the car at a low price is not balanced judgement.
Car Talk › Re: ECU Replacement And Finding A Programer by GAZZUZZ(m): 4:53am On Sep 07, 2014
jaz: when scanned it gave the following codes:

code 1- P0106 BAR0O./MAP sensor range
code 2- Misfire detected

what do you advise?
Your problem looks like an easy fix and is centred around P0106

How this sensor works :The "brainbox" uses the MAP to monitor engine load, The "brainbox" PCM supplies a 5 Volt reference signal to the MAP sensor. Usually the PCM also supplies a ground circuit to the MAP sensor as well. As the manifold pressure changes with load, the MAP sensor input informs the PCM. At idle the voltage should be 1 to 1.5 Volts and approximately 4.5 Volts at Wide Open Throttle (WOT). The PCM looks for any change in manifold pressure to be preceded by a change in engine load in the form of changes in throttle angle, engine speed, or Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) flow. If the PCM doesn't see any of these factors change while detecting a rapid change in MAP value, it will set a P0106.

The following could be symptomatic of a P0106:

Engine runs rough
Black smoke at tailpipe
Engine will not idle
Poor fuel economy
Engine misses at speed

How to test: with a multi meter search for ground(-) and 5v(+) at map socket with ignition on, the third pin will give varying output between 1-4.5v depending on engine load and only when engine is running and the signal sent straight to the (brainbox)pcm if you don't have the voltages I just mentioned check harness/wiring. Or better still tell us what voltage you have.

Please note:I'm assuming your (wiring) harness has not yet been abused or damaged.

Also using live data from an obdII diagnostic tool you can monitor the performance of the MAP.

Note: DO NOT use an analogue multimeter to test sensors use a digital meter please.

yuzedo: GAZZ my man, is there any way to scan a car to detect a hidden tracking device?

I know with a transponder you can pin-point radio frequency. What technology do these trackers use? Because basically, anyone can install a tracker on your car without your knowledge and jack your ride whenever Satan fingers their brain. huh
I'm sure there are devices that can detect the presence of a gsm frequency within short distances, and also there are devices that are used by car jackers to disrupt/jam gsm signals so u can't communicate with your tracker once car is stolen until they are far away and located your tracker and removed it.

Just pray your car jacker is not high tech if not its gone till some one buys it 600k on olx grin
Car Talk › Re: How Do You Know If The Nigerian Used Car You Bought Is Stolen? by GAZZUZZ(m):
OP strip the car search for a tracker, if there is one remove the sim put it in a small nokia "torchlight" phone search message folder, write the number down, wait for more messages if you get messages like Find,f,status, your car is being searched for by the sellers, if you decide to turn your self in turn in that number as evidence there are ways of finding sellers that way. Mean while, if there's a tracker
1. They know where you live
2.They know where you work
3. They know where you worship
4. They can listen in on your conversations while you are in the car.

Iv been on both sides of the law and I can tell you 600k is not worth it. Let me give you an example of how bad it might be, if car was stolen in sokoto, you will follow law enforcement people to sokoto to sort out your issues, I've seen scenarios like this and I can tell you no matter who you know, you will be deprived of your freedom for a while b4 it is sorted out.

My advice get a lawyer, search for the original owner of the car, most vehicle registrations are done online and there is an active data base for every registered car in nigeria from the vin you can get a phone number and address. Get your lawyer to do the talking if you find out its stolen.

If its not stolen and you find a tracker, leave it alone, install your own tracker and if they try re-stealing the car you can always catch them and have closure to the whole deal.

Do not involve an innocent third party by re-selling the car.

On a lighter side if I bought the car and it was being tracked waiting to be re-stolen and I found a tracker, I would remove the tracker, connect it to a car battery and mail it to borno and tell my guys to keep the battery charged at all times.
Car Talk › Re: Maintenance Tips On Cars. by GAZZUZZ(op): 10:02pm On Sep 05, 2014
GAZZUZZ: Sounds like a fuel pressure problem. Pump could be good but you might have a bad fuel regulator or a leaking case, but ideally with the right equipment you can rule out fuel pressure within minutes. (Fuel pressure tester)

Also check your coolant temp sensor

The one with the green socket, if its not properly connected or if the cables are broken or joined together you will have same kind of problem you mentioned.

Ideally if you have a "check" light illuminated on your dash take your vehicle for a scan.
Beautiful4u: A SCAN SHOWS THAT THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR WAS FAULTY, IT HAS BEEN FIXED. THANKS MAN

Car Talk › Re: *HELP* Mechanic Spayed Carb Spray Into My Actuator... by GAZZUZZ(m): 4:13am On Sep 05, 2014
donsola: Thanks for all the responses... my car is the 2007 accord, he sprayed it into the throttle actuator through the butterfly flap. The car is still revving btw 2000- 3000 rpm. Solutions pls
What's the vehicle repair history regarding the throttle body and idle speed? Its possible idle speed was manualy increased when there was build up of dirt in the past to set the idle, and now that your mechanic has done the right thing there's no dirt to stem the tide of airflow which is causing your high rpm. Or you might just have a bad throttle body.

If youy have any of this lights on while engine is running
Then run a scan to narrow down the possible causes.
