Are we ever going to have solution to our flooding problems in Nigeria? I think it is high time we worked our system instead of leaving everything to God. I am convinced some clowns will call this the "Act of God" when it can be prevented.

To answer this question of yours, there are no states in America where the Federal minimum wage is flouted. undecided

That some states have yet to update their minimum wage acts at DOES NOT imply that they are in violation of the Federal Minimum wage. undecided
Don't be in a haste to use just google when you can make reference to the department in charge. Here is the link to the department of labor website and you can see for yourself that some states have minimum wage below the Federal minimum wage and usually, employers with less than 50 employees are not subject to the FLSA.

Most of them will still not heed this advice. The African settings in which men are the breadwinners are in their mindset and they believe if a man cannot take care of his wife, he is not worthy to be called a husband. Women nature is to receive from men and not other way round
Part of the problem is the man forming god and competing amongst themselves to see who is the highest spender to buy love.

1. We say we want things to work in Nigeria yet in the same breath we give reasons for why the law should not be respected. Come on! naw!

Why would you need a labor lawyer to educate you on common things such as abiding by the law? The major reason these businesses openly flout the law has to do with the fact that most Nigerians do not understand their rights by law. It has nothing to do with labor lawyers but with people always trying hard to make excuses for why the law should not be followed by ALL, something you are doing right this moment. undecided

2. This does not make sense to me. The Law says the minimum wage is Naira 70,000 meaning that anyone who pays anything less than that is cleary in violation of the Law. Why are you tagging labor lawyers as if the law somehow depends on them? Any citizen not receiving minimum wage ought to have their employer sued for that. You cannot go and negotiate another minimum wage when the law is clear on how much it is. Simple! undecided
Aunty, I do not have full information on how the law applies and I believe ideally, every organization should comply however, we have seen instances where some states claim they cannot afford to pay. Besides, some companies are registered outside of the Federal Government thus, they may not be obliged to abide. I think we should leave this to labor lawyers to educate us.

The Right Perspective is that which follows the Law. If education is too expensive people can also try homeschooling or sending their kids to public schools. undecided

No employee should be paid anything less than Naira 70,000. That is the Law! undecided
Have you not read some state government in Nigeria saying they cannot afford to pay this? Are there not some states in the US where state minimum wage is less than that of Federal (Georgia, Wyoming, Montana etc.)? I think you should stop arguing this and focus your energy on something else.

Businesses are required by law to pay their employees at least the minimum wage. Any business not able to pay at least that amount violates the law; such a proprietor has no business being in business(hiring anyone, no matter whom). undecided

Even Charities are required by law to pay their workers at least the minimum wage. So, let's not get this tangled up where it ought not to be. undecided
This should be the ideal however, in Nigeria that I know, businesses have being paying below minimum wage since time immemorial and until this is challenged, there isn't much we can do about it. Perhaps, one of our labor lawyers will educate us better on this.

One aspect I think lawyers need to exploit in Nigeria is Labor law. So many things are going wrong because we are not too sure on what our law states about working environment/conditions.

•Did any School Owner - have any Financial Support from the States or Federal Govt?
•Did the School Owners have any raised Check- from anywhere, other than his own Money - to buy all the Infrastructures, Generator Sets, Building, even managed to be the Local Govt of his/ her Own?
•Are you aware that most of those being Interviewed,to teach,do not have Education,as their preferred Career Paths, from the College or University, yet you people want them to deliver on what they were never chosen! So,you want them to be paid Bankers Salary, abi?
But here ,you are making Mouth !

I have being listening to a particular program in Nigeria and last week, they discussed back to school and try raise funds for some kids to return back to school. Hearing school fees of N10000, N17000 etc, how much do we expect such schools to pay their teachers? I think the challenge sometimes is we forget to put things in their right perspectives.

That's great. You know it. Yes, the Soup is called Marugbo , it is Ondo state version of Black soup .

I believe you know Lafun is also made from Cassava flour . Which is popular among the Egba people. You will never hear them call Lafun Amala funfun. They simply call it Lafun. Which is the name. So I find it ridiculous when people call it Amala funfun .
I think it all depends. Don't let us derail the thread. Are Lafun back in the days as a boarder schooling in Ogun State. It isn't so much of a pleasant experience perhaps, hostel food wasn't overall.

Do you know what they call Pupuru?
Pupuru is made from cassava and yes, I know Pupuru. Our tenant and a next door neighbor growing up are from Ikale. So Pupuru is a staple around the house particularly, when they host their meetings with Marugbo (not too sure if this is how it is spelt). One interesting thing is when they start to sing in the evening into the night, it was always fun. Unfortunately, not too many meetings were hosted by them but the few ones were memorable.

There is nothing like Amala Lafun.....It is Lafun. But most people ignorantly call it Amala Lafun .
Amala is Amala
Lafun is Lafun
Amala is made from elubo which is the product of dried peeled yam. Besides elubo, amala can be made from other products. Plantain can be dried and a powder of same can be made which then can be used to make amala.

He should try again then. Perhaps, the visa officer just wasn't in his best mood. He should also desist from saying your dad has made over N100M this year alone. He should just talk about the line of business and unless he is asked he shouldn't mention. He shouldn't over labor things.

No, I am still on F1 right now. I just thought there was an issue because he is coming to the same school.
I just read the transcript. One quick question, do your stories on your father's business line aligns? Since he must have mentioned you in this DS160, there is a possibility the visa officer reviewed the excerpt of your transcript.

I would suggest he reapplies. 70% scholarship is quite high and worth trying again for.

Okay guys. I am the one that posted that “Can you use Lagos DS160 in Abuja” — the answer is Yes, you can because my brother did that today.

He interviewed in Abuja with the DS160 that he filled for Lagos. His visa was denied though because he mentioned that he has a brother in the US (Same school). I am currently doing a PhD in the same school that he is coming. The only question he got asked is *Do you have anyone in the US and where are they* which he answered truthfully as advised. He got his own 70% scholarship and we have a strong bank statement but was still denied.

I think its because I am in the same school, do you guys think he should reapply for the visa or what can he change?
I do not think they denied him solely because of that. Have you used any public resource and are you currently in the process of changing your status from F1 to other immigrant status?

Quick fix dinner:

The chicken was the remaining from the last time I grilled chicken so I already knew that would make dinner fast. Decided to stroll into the grocery store to get chicken wings for lunch and realized they had some nice ripe plantain. Bought some and knew that dinner was set.

On my way home, I remembered those days my mom sold cook food at Tincan Island Bus Stop. There was a Mama Emeka who sold roasted yam and plantains. There's this vegetable sauce she makes (don't know how to make it so improvised mine with bell peppers, one tomato, and dried scent leaves) and that gave me the needed inspiration however, I wasn't ready to go the long haul of roasting the plantains.

This dinner therefore is an ode to Mama Emeka.

Looks so good 😊 can you share recipe please ?
For the soup, I buy peanuts and mill them at the store. On a low medium fry pan, I toast the milled peanuts. The idea is to add some nuttiness to the taste. In a cooking pot, boil the proteins you intend using (most times, I boil the different proteins separately because they require different times to cook and it is not all stocks you use in cooking). While the proteins are boiling and you have toasted the milled peanuts to a reasonable extent, wash your bitter leaf (I use dry bitter leaves so most times, I soak them earlier). Once they are tender to your satisfaction, add a little palm oil and ground pepper. Allow them to boil to prevent the oil from having a funny taste on your tongue when eating. Once the palm oil is cooked, add your peanut and stir properly. If it is too thick, you can add a little stock. Once it starts to cook, you add the bitter leaf reduce the heat and allow it more time for everything to meddle together.

For the pounded yam, peel the yam and add to a pot of boiling water. Allow the yam to cook and transfer into a food processor using the plastic one (I don't know the name it is called but I mean the thing that rotates inside the food processor). Use the dough option and once it is smooth, transfer into a big bowl and use your spatula (turning stick) to ensure it is very smooth. Put your cling film in a deep soup bowl, cut the pounded yam inside, and wrap well.
