What do you need bike for in UI. There have always been cabs if the distance is a stretch.Three of my siblings went to UI and except for my bro who was a tough guy and smuggled a car to school for his final year, the two ladies walked from their hostels(Queens and AWO) to their different faculties. This was even in different eras in 80s and late 90s. I wonder what's going on with this snowflake generation.Walking is fun, healthy and the school is well shaded with trees.
tyup:
it's just barely a week after the daft sect of administration banned bike men blaming their unfortunate self on insecurity thereby leading to loss of job for those men especially those with family. not only have these steps affect students if these bike men are among the thieves their anger would also be vented on these same innocent students

My friend in UI said nothing good have ever come out from their current VC's administration and have only done things to adversely affect the students sad

may the sorrow and languish Their VC olayinka is putting the students through may same locate him and his family and may it never depart from his family and generations

Not every homo sapiens with a pipe between his legs is a man.
etrange:
The fact that you called me "ma'am" only shows the crux of your argument. You believe I'm lady since I don't agree with your stance on rape and rape accusations; you expect every man to fall in line with your opinion. You're already making it a "man-should-stand-by-men" thing instead of a logical response to the issue at hand.

Anyway, let's not get carried away, men who are found guilty of rape are punished. Women who are found guilty of false accusations should also be punished severely. That's all about it. Drawing sharp between the two genders will lead to discrimination in many ways. That's all I'm saying.

I'm a man, brother.

Politics › Re: Senate President Lawan Reveals When Buhari Will Submit Ministerial List by GEEBITE: 2:49pm On Jul 10, 2019
Suffering and smiling is the case here. His negatives outweigh the positives stop consoling yourself.
DTaj:
I support the President, I generally support our leaders (I won't insult and criticize them just for the fun of it or to be seen at having a viewpoint). However, Buhari's major weakness is his very, very slow approach to decision-making and governance!

Let us even agree that the reason he did not send the list of Ministers earlier was because he did not want to forward it to a Saraki Senate Presidency (for obvious reasons- their well-known sour relationship and the fact that a new Senate was going to be inaugurated in the first week of June 2019), why did he not forward it on the second day of the inauguration of the Senate last month, June?

Why leave it till the so-called "this week", almost at the middle of July for a Senate that will go on a 2-month long recess on July 26huh

Did you know that so many Executive Secretaries and DGs of certain parastatals appointed by President Jonathan (who Buhari inherited from Jonathan in May 2015) are still running those agencies till today, over 4 years later, without being replacedhuh

Did you know that the Board of Directors of Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) was only inaugurated about two weeks agohuh SEC, the capital market regulator, had no Board for over 3 years!

Why does Buhari hate appointments/appointing people promptly?

Is there a rule that says Buhari should always delay appointments?

Now, our lazy Governors, who are mostly doing so little in their individual states, across both APC and PDP, have taken a cue from Buhari.

Among our Governors only El-Rufai of Kaduna and Okowa of Delta have appointed Commissioners/formed their cabinets yet! Today is July 10...

Buhari has so many positives, and I wanted him to defeat Jonathan in 2015 (and also win in 2019) but his penchant for making decisions too late and also for allowing members of his APC party remain largely disunited, without focus, are major flaws...

God help Nigeria!

Spot on too, child of the 90s. He was abducted in broad day light and injected with an unknown substance.I recall how SUG guys attacked central cafe that was being run by Tunde Shobowale's(T-prime) mum after her son in a rarely seen kamikaze boldness then attacked a rival with a machete in front of their fresh senate building in broad daylight spilling blood all over. They destroyed all her wares to teach her parental lesson she didnt give her son.The crazy guy never changed, even in marriage he battered Foluke Daramola till that one ran away.
Amalekki:
May their souls rest in peace. Theirs was a truly bold move. A rare act of bravery to protect the reputation of OAU as one of the few Nigerian universities with minimal cult activities. Ife was never a cultism hotspot. Some of these cultists started making brazen attempts to strengthen their nodes at Ife. They were rebuffed & heroically stopped. The supreme price was paid by these rare individuals.

Omoyele Sowore (The same one) fought a similar battle in Unilag several years before the OAU heroes. NTA network news even dedicated a portion of their broadcast to that brutal period. Several established cultists were apprehended and brutalized. It was a bold move if you know the Unilag of that era. While the Akoka campus only witnessed sporadic cult rivalry attacks, it was the national focal point where decisions were made. It was also the safe house for wanted cultists across Nigeria.

The reprisal was brutal. Sowore was left for dead. The rest is history.

Hate is far from me.What about 2006 nations cup or have you forgotten he feigned injury to miss 2010 world cup too?Same with nations cup earlier in the year.A good player remains one forget stiff comeptition. Yaya Toure was coming for nations cup steady in the middle of the busy EPL schedule. The spurs Korean striker has taken leave twice in about 18 months for national service and little known asian games.Yet he has proven to be a solid player. Mikel is an average player with so much hype.A midfielder with no power shots and cant win headers and one of the poorest goal ratio of a top flight EPL midfielders. Ndidi with few years in Leicester city, a mid size club has scored more goals than him and and has been rated better in tackles and interceptions.
Chiwude:
Even if he had gone to the Olympics many of you will still criticise him for our falling to win the gold medal. You went on to say later day patriotism. How many of the top footballers of his time went to the Olympics? Did Rooney, Lampard, Cristiano Ronaldo, Essien, Drogba, Suarez, Falcao, Torres and others go for Olympics? But you have the temerity to criticize Mikel who still travelled with the team at his twilight, donated his own money to the team and even won a bronze medal at the end. You forgot that as at 2008, Mikel was facing stiff competition from Essien, Deco, Ballack, Zhikov and Lampard in Chelsea's midfield. So you wanted him to go to the Olympics to be diciplined by Mourinho who kicked against the idea. I see nothing but hate in your criticism.

This is where I have serious issues with you.PELE coming close to MESSI or the other way round.Once he is able to win three world cups and one as a teenager we can have a conversation. Ok a simpler task here, once he hit his 1,000 goals we can start to compare them. Too much sentiment.I have seen Garincha dribbles video, your goat does not come close.Probably compete with George Best in dribbles.
They are just fortunate to play in era of advance sport science and lenient rules, even balls have been made lighter and pitches surface smoother.Go and watch what Morais "the conscienceless" Portuguese centre half did to Pele or Claudio Gentile on Maradona.Messi in his small frame will not survive two matches of 1966 or 1982 world cup.
eni4real:
Messi is the Greatest Of All Time. Stop disturbing yourself...

Cruyff has o international trophies. Of which Marco Van Basten won 1 Euro,

Cruyff(Player) won the European GOAT of 20th century, the best player in the history of Netherland....
He is the best bit unlucky in 74 World cup final(that German team was tactical tho, as far as I could see)!!

George Weah? Bad example, sorry!! He is the African GOAT with international trophy. Never played in a World Cup nor won the nations Cup(once again bad example, but he should be mentioned)

Messi is the GOAT. I have never seen a best scorer (6 European Golden boot) who also won the World best Playmaker (3 consecutive) in my entire life...

Only Pele is close to Messi in terms of individual greatness!!!

Spare me that Olympics tale.It was at the twilight of his career, when he was much younger he absented himself from 2008 BEIJING Olympics which we stood better chance of winning.Forming latter day patriotism reporting to camp promptly after being disengaged by Boro.I recall that in 2006 nations cup he only arrived to play the second game of the competition.
Chiwude:
Mr fake Nigeria saying trash about Mikel.
You, have you paid your dues to this country? Mikel has bled for Nigeria, from Under-17 in 2003 till now. He has won the nations cup for us and even donated his personal money for the national team. He even went to the Olympics to the detriment of his Chelsea position under Conte. What more do you wnt from him. A boy whose father was kidnapped twice in this country, yet he never turned his back against us but kept on playing.
Give Mikel a break, get a life and pray to be successful.

So if this development will bring peace and draw a boundary, Its highly welcomed.

He is yet to meet Pence or has he?Thought that is the main purpose of his itinerary.I really dont understand these town hall meetings and the purpose they are going to serve.
0gaGist:
The Pan Yoruba Socio-political group, Afenifere, has carpeted Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, over his claim that the ongoing insecurity in the country particularly kidnapping and banditry were being exaggerated by Nigerians.

The General Assembly of the group on Tuesday at the Akure home of its leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, who berated Prof. Osinbajo over the comment made on Sunday while addressing some Nigerians in New York, maintained that the growing trends of insecurity in the country is an indication of a failed state, particularly with the recent security alerts issued by the United Kingdom and United States of America to their citizens over security threats in most parts of the country.

While stating that the development calls for concern, the group stressed that it does not reflect truthfulness on the part of the Vice-President as “Yorubaland is Still Under Siege” as well the continued “traumatization of our people by Fulani herdsmen/kidnappers/militia all across the Six states in the zone as well as Kwara and Kogi States.”

Recall that the Vice President had during a town hall meeting in New York on Sunday evening while responding to questions and comments as regards “high rate of killings and kidnappings” in the country stated that, “With respect to general kidnapping which we have seen in parts of the country, again, this is not entirely new. In fact, some of the kidnapping stories you read or listen to are simply not true anywhere, some are fuelled by politics.

At the meeting, Osinbajo added that, “There are cases of kidnapping, no question at all about that, but some of the more dramatic stories that you hear are simply not true.”

According to the National Publicity Secretary of the group, Yinka Odumakin who signed the communiqué after the meeting, Afenifere, “frowned at this unfortunate comments by the Vice President who shames the Yoruba people with his very cheap politicking with the lives of Nigerians.”

The communiqué read in parts, “All the reports provided clear indications of failure of state as the security forces have largely incapable or unwilling to safeguard the lives of our people against these Criminals as we are not aware of any of them that has been arrested or is under trial at the moment just as all the Federal Government has done so far is to make excuses for the Boko Haram and Miyetti Allah groups that have been accused of so many crimes against the people of Nigeria.

“It is against this backdrop that the meeting was scandalized by the opportunistic and provocative utterances of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo in NewYork on Sunday dismissing the danger we are faced with in Yorubaland as well as by other zones in Nigeria as being “politically motivated.”

“As if he is unaware that we are in a digital world, which explains why America and Britain have issued travel directives to their citizens not travel to more than 2/3 of Nigeria, the VP without much thought for his integrity stated “With respect to general kidnapping which we have seen in parts of the country ,again, this is not entirely new. In fact, some of the kidnapping stories you read or listen to are simply not true anywhere, some are fueled by politics.”

Afenifere added that even the presidency cannot shy away from the pervading insecurity in country particularly as it affects the president’s hometown, Daura as well as dignitaries across the country.

“Is the report of the kidnap of a District Head from President Buhari’s town from May 1 till date politically motivated? And was the President speaking of another country when he handed kidnappers on rampage to God?

“Was former Health Minister, Prof Isaac Adewole playing politics when it was announced that his son was kidnapped ?

“What politics was afoot when the Ondo State Governor recently announced that his convoy was waylaid by kidnappers?

“If he cannot answer these questions, he should kneel before his God and ask for forgiveness for violating “Thou shall not lie” commandment .We further admonish him not to allow whatever ambition and political interest he serves to push him to make such infuriating comments as the No 2 man in the country again.

“As a people who cannot continue to bear what is going on, and we believe it is so with so many communities in Nigeria, meeting made the following demands:

The group however called on President Muhammadu Buhari to withdraw from his position as the Patron of Miyetti Allah if he his sincere of tackling the issue of herdsmen attacks in the country.

“We restate our earlier call on Mr. President to separate the office of the President of Nigeria which he occupies from being also the grand patron of Miyetti Allah which we suspect makes it very difficult for security agents to go after members of this group whenever they commit or are accused of crimes.

“There must be immediate enforcement of law and order as an urgent measure to flush out these criminal elements from our society .

“There must be immediate steps taken to rework Nigeria to take it back to the practice of FEDERALISM so that every federating unit can have their police to secure their environment.

“In order to cut the production line of criminals and bandits we must have the practice of Federalism in many key spheres especially the economy so that all units must have the rights to tap whatever is under their soil so that new corridors of prosperity are created to eradicate the massive unemployment in the county so we can cease to be the headquarters of poverty.”

Politics › Re: Afenifere Makes Five Requests To Buhari by GEEBITE: 7:51am On Jun 26, 2019
Any time this President talks without reading from a speech written for him these two things must come out of his mouth.1 He contested 3 times and went up to supreme court. 2The rains have been so good and bumper harvest for farmers. There used to be a third one about herdsmen carrying cutlass and stick to clear foliage for cattle. That stopped after his misadventure to white house where he totally appeared out of depth for a 21st century leader.
This has made me to wonder if what people are saying about him being totally empty upstairs is accurate.
chelseaimmortal:
Leadership of Afenifere yesterday presented five demands to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The group led by Chief Ayo Fasanmi told the president that the five demands would assist in addressing the challenges facing the country.

Those who attended the meeting were Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Segun Osoba, Abiola Ajimobi, Sen. Adedayo Adeyeye, Chief Kemi Nelson, Laoye Tomori, Solomon Akindele,Elder Yemi Alade, Mutiu Are, among others.

The socio-cultural group in a prepared speech read by Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye, requested the president to consider recruitment, training, equipment and deployment of Nigerian Police on the basis of 774 local government areas.

“Please permit us, Mr. President, to submit our humble request of the following 5 major issues of paramount importance to South-West Nigeria in particular and the unity, progress and happiness of the entire country in general.

“Security: The huge cost not-withstanding, it may be considered worthwhile to take a bold step in combating crime and improving on security by improving on the apparent shortage of the manpower in the Nigeria Police Force and by extending control of the Police from the State to Local Government level.

“By this, we humbly suggest that Mr. President should reflect deeply and consider recruitment, training, equipment and deployment of Nigerian Police on the basis of 774 Local Governments listed in the First Schedule of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” they said.

Another request of the group was the provision of free and compulsory education in the country.

“Education: “Free Universal and Compulsory Education“ had been practiced with remarkable success in some parts of Nigeria in the past.

“Mr. President may consider re-introducing the programme and make it compulsory at all levels and all over the country as a lasting gift to Nigeria in his final term in office. Such a bold step though very expensive will revolutionize and catapult the entire nation to the next higher level,” they said.

They also requested for the massive youth empowerment program in the country.

“Youth Employment: One of the obvious advantages that will accrue from Education Programme which will include Basic, Technical, Skill Acquisition, Digitalization and ICT Programmes will be to Open wide gates to Youth Employment in Nigeria and in the Diaspora,” they said.

The fourth demand of the group was true federalism, saying “We seriously recommend clinging to the spirit and letters of our Federal Constitution.

“This is one sure way of achieving the desired goal of unity even in diversity, mutual respect, tolerance and giving true meaning to the opening phrase of our Constitution that is, “WE THE PEOPLE”.

“We will be a greater nation if we sincerely practice true Federalism and THINK and ACT as NIGERIANS rather than as champions of the smaller units we were born into. Our big size is an asset worthy of preservation. Good examples of big size, hard work and prudent spending are the USA, China and India.

“It is not with violence or hate speeches but with mutual trust, self-respect and tolerance that we will speedily achieve the lofty destiny of this great country, Nigeria.”

The Afenifere leaders also requested the president to give more attention to the issue of power supply and agriculture.

“We have already commended your Administration on its remarkable achievements in the field of agriculture. But the country asks for more, especially in the Field of afforestation, irrigation and revival of those agricultural products like Cocoa, Groundnut, Cotton, Palm Products and processing them for domestic consumption and export as Malaysia which borrowed seedlings from us has now gone far ahead of us,” they said.

Responding, President Buhari said the requests would be looked into in line with his 2019 campaign pledges.

“On your request, you know what we (when I say we this time around I mean our party), what we campaigned on in 2015 and this year is security, economy and fighting corruption. These things are basic because we cannot secure our country or an institution unless we secure it.

“What was happening in the north east and is still happening to some degree in the north central or the south west, is true that we have made some progress but there are still some problems and those problems we are trying to solve them within our physical and material resources,” he said.

On fighting corruption, he said, “ Now what I do is when a person cannot justify what he has or fails to declare as the constitution specifies, some of them dear to Almighty God that their property doesn’t belong to them until we show them their bank accounts and their companies then we have some peace.

“So we are recovering as much as we can under the system and this time around I said the properties will be sold and the money put in the treasury.

“But anybody who cannot account for what he has and for refusing to declare, we will have to do something about it.

“I will tell you as Afenirere, that was why I had to deal though reluctantly with the former Chief Justice. Because there were millions of dollars, euros not to talk of naira which were not declared. I wonder what sort of conscience some of us have, how can you seat and preside and lock people up for years and even sentence some to death and yet you are not doing what the constitution said you should do by occupying that vital institution.

“So institution like yours when you have secured your constituency constitutionally and materially you can help this country. And really this country needs you and you need this country with the future generation because of the population explosion we are going through and the limited resources and the deficits of infrastructure.”

In an interview, Tinubu said the next level the APC promised to the country to was broad.

“The next Level is broad. You have economic progress that we are working for as a party; we have the diversity of the economy itself; we have the various scale of thinking that the economic council will have to bring about; the infrastructural deficit; poverty, security; those are the things that we will put emphasis on; you know it; I know it; there is infrastructural deficit across the country and without infrastructure, you cannot galvanise the economy; you have the question of electricity that is critical to industrialization and economic growth,” he said.
