@ all
what would be the effects on the proposed share reconstruction for oceanic bank?
1. Overall good
2. Individuals will have less number of shares in the company obviously
3. This I think is to meet the market psychology  cheaper shares  abi share prices in a certain range will make more returns.
4. However with the bullish trend Oceanic price will still be facing Bornu,

My suggestions

My People,
I am seeking advice.
I use MBC securities and up until last year, I've never had any issues, despite having been through 4 account officers ( who leave fro one reason or another) and now the fourth one is becoming a real trial. I bought several POs & IPOs through them and everyone else is getting feedback on returned monies and allotment. I have asked my current officer if there is any feedback and he gives me the impression it isnt his work, one and two the registrar will get back to the individuals directly, I truly don't know what to believe. PLEASE, Is there anyone else who uses them and has a reasonable contact?. my email is d328babe@yahoo.com. thank you.
Please take some time out and visit their office if you haven't done so already. If you are out of the country then put loads of pressure. I know brokers are under pressure just like the market is under pressure (so do your public relations well), However this is your money so chase it.
Also chase the brokers. Had to visit UBA/Zenith registrars to fix certificate issues when my brokers couldn't.
Act quickly!!
Good luck

I don't think UBA is a CICO stock. It is very strong fundamentally long term. I think the nominal price may be a disadvantage against CICO until some very serious rumour is in the air.
Good Pumping!!
Thanks for that if you notice I put question marks. UBA is ripe for a rise just like FBN and one can gain some CICO returns however it is fundamentally strong,

@Fatherof2, you know say you be my brother any day abi? And I respect your opinion very well on this forum as well as the other many varied opinions. But e get one thing when you dey do wey de vex me well well.

Your strategy is sound no doubt, and you're obviously successful at it. I, like you, trade very heavily too. But sometimes your comments seem condescending to people who choose to do long term investing. Not too sure what's going on between you and Wanaj0, but it's not too cool for you to come out and call a stock useless, especially after someone has recommended it. Haba, Fatherof2, this detracts from your very well respected views na, it's beneath you.

Anyway, me I don talk my own finish  smiley. Please keep your comments impersonal, it'll help to foster open-mindedness on the forum, which is what we really want.  Abi?
I learnt from this forum the word PREMATURE EJA, sincerely some people including me can be culprits, Please WWendy no vex,
NaijaDr thanks too believe that your explanation is cool.

its not giving them a good rep at all. i  expect UBA will be smarter than that but then again i've been wrong before  wink

Yep that's how you know which coy has a good management,

FACT: There is a lot of money around with some of the banks

QUESTION: How will they use it?

UBA Zenith Afribank- are gulping others, Hope they'll release money to businessmen.  And there will soon be power, good roads and better investment climate to run all these businesses.
Then most sectors will see prices facing Maiduguri this time
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Geees: 6:44pm On Jan 15, 2008
For NSE, I went to their website, signed up under register. Then downloaded and filled out form, and emailed it to my broker who will sign and submit it. Its the regular N2500 to do that. Your broker does have to sign the form so you can just ask them to do it for you.
Thanks Man for confirming how to do this, Now I can checkmate the brokers,
Chei. If UBA should slap us with PO and TS I go fight o  angry angry angry

Someone should send me the conferencing details to the AGM  grin make I go air my opinion jare.

Well. Looking on the bright side. Even if UBA lists the entire 15B shares, the forward PE is still around 20 (but add another 5 for the risk of the cowboy CEO  grin grin) making 25.
UBA and Zenith have been buying banks, http://www.tribune.com.ng/15012008/news/news3.html; http://www.businessdayonline.com/banking/1899.html
UBA has gulped like 4 failed banks so I think they are trying to add that value,  What i don't understand is why they don't just leave it and let the market push up the price,
So dont get perplexed factor this in,
Cheers

lovely folks lovely am reading the comments and wish i had 26hrs 2 spend 2 hrs extra online grin

@Grabdaloot would suggest 3 sectors
2nd tier stocks
Healthcare: evans
Chemical and paints:dn meyer/berger Nig german etc
May be ABC transport
My reasons those are sectors that with a few things put well in the country will rise well also expecting good results this year.
Pls who are your brokers that ensure you make the short term sales, how are their services?,

Welcome Temmie and Shig, good to have you guys back

@loma depending on the state of your liver i would say keep all.  HOwever ou may exit all except WApco the price is going somewhere north only that i dont know how far,

@ Gees,

Most times, the loosers chart is usually more important than the gainers chart for me.
I compile the list of consistent loosers from monday to Thursday for two to three weeks, look at them critically and determine who is more
likely to start a new round of profit making.
Contrarian,
Thanks too

i really wonder how many longtermers still remain for this thread.
Its now a mix man,
Why leave money in zen if it will drop from 60 to 40 naira and take 6 months or a year to rise back to 60 naira.
Take the profit may be with 1/2 of the units then reinvest if u so like them. Its fun, I guarantee that u are enjoying yourself,
Hope you have not been burnt badly Infact i ask share the burnt experience with us. If you havent then share that of a friend and base line

@ Gees, did you just mention Nestle? My broker was telling me to buy some today, but you may know better than he does, so spill the beans man.
Invisi,
Nestle has been rising for 5 years consistently quietly making money for its investors so much that there is a huge price gap bw it and its peers in the same industry and country.  As a fundamental (long term) investor my money is safe in Nestle, I see it as a First bank of the food and beverages sector,
It will pass 350 naira except the come to the market,
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Geees: 7:16pm On Jan 03, 2008
Hmmm
There is a higher interest in the market which started in mid 2006, I woke up from like August last year, found this forum and in 5 months we have generated like 150 pages of data,
Banks are making profit in two digit billions, take position now cos there is a party, the question is where is it? I say almost all the sectors will see at least some growth, Banks, insurance, building materials,
If UNTL is still traded then the market is hugly sentimental i'll enjoy it oh,  my two pence take too is that this trend who knows might take a year to normalize, See AP was so disappointed in them dumped the stock and now its done 200% every day 5%.
So what more can we say, Take position take the 25% (will drop it to 20%) and base line NEVER loose money,
Cheers

Happy new yr folks,
@ No shaking
Are you Tuface abi sound sultan or the Plan, boyz love the rhymes, Have u thot of using it wink?

@All some good news from my reading
In this first quarter watch some insurance stocks, niger, royalex.
UBA is the only 'free' big five bank and its up for grabs join now, Zenith will run afta the PO.
The NSE is defying trends because of a sudden awareness of the market.  So RSI, MACD signals etc are screeching, easimoni However i believe it will cool down by April.
Nig german wants to join CAP however its not alone even DN meyer/berger might be joining, Any takes on Nestle, vitafoam and gskhuh Am beaming in on them,
After some good research enter each stock heavy, returns beta with larger volumes well don (fatherof2)
Lastly, these are my suggestions please,
Happy investing
Cheers

@ Talktrue,
To borrow a leaf from ololufemi,
I suggest

do the following:

1 Contact your legal friend or lawyer.
2 Obtain copies of all necessary documents needed for investigation
3 Report him to the Investment and Securities Tribunal first then EFCC later if he does not respond to the previous two.
EFCC for me is more interested in certain amounts of cash dont know the exact range.
However even sec will report an issue to EFCC if it is beyond them,
But you will need a legal adviser because the adviser then represents you

Nope, I didn't say so. I said it was too early to buy and then the 9 months came out and the market jumped! I think it's a good stock but a bit too expensive right now. But if the growth continues in triple digits, It will look cheap 6 months from now.

My plan is to bite the bullet and start to buy now. If the price comes down, good; I'll simply average down
On c and i my take is in one year they'll make over 100% ROI all things going well.

CBN harmonises job titles in banking industry
By Yemi Kolapo
Published: Wednesday, 12 Dec 2007
The Central Bank of Nigeria has approved the harmonisation of job titles in the banking industry to foster easy interaction between the institutions, the public and third parties.

A circular to all banks and discount houses, posted on the CBN website on Monday, and signed by the Director of Banking Supervision, Mr. Ignatius Imala, said some banks designated their personnel, particularly the top management staff, with job titles that were different from the conventional ones.

Imala, in the circular referenced BSD/DIR/GEN/CIR/V.1/018 and dated December 7, 2007, stated that while the practice might not be bad in itself, it might be difficult for the public and third parties to know the levels of authority and responsibility such designations depicted.

He explained that for simplicity and comparison across banks, it had become necessary to harmonise such designations with those already well known.

The CBN has, therefore, outlined acceptable equivalents for the major conventional titles.

In the CBN circular, conventional titles like ‘Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer’, ‘Deputy Managing Director’ and ‘Executive Director’ were retained.

However, for ‘General Manager,’ the acceptable equivalent is ‘Senior Vice- President’, while the acceptable equivalent for ‘Deputy Manager’ is ‘Vice President’.

The acceptable equivalents for others like ‘Assistant General Manager’, ‘Principal Manager’ and ‘Senior Manager’, according to the circular, are ‘Assistant Vice-President’, ‘Principal Manager’ and ‘Senior Executive Associate’ respectively.

The CBN also reminded banks that section 5.2.2 of the Code of Corporate Governance for banks disallowed the creation of the position of Executive Vice-Chairman and required that the position of the Chairman of the Board must be separate and distinct from that of the Chief Executive Officer.

“Titles like ‘Group Director’ or ‘Regional Director’ are also not permitted designations in the banking industry. All institutions are to note that this directive takes effect from the date of this circular,” Imala said.

Pray this attention will be turned to other sectors
