A range of say 5-10million units of trade weekly?

Zenith is very agressive, they will probably meet their projections.

My only worry is that, those that bought the last PO, have not finished verfying their certificate. If we buy now, will it not take another 1 yr before we see the credit into our CSCS account?
I did not buy the so over to you Ololufemi and frankiri those folks are zenith majors.

Awaiting your tips

Also, the TS on ETI PLC has been lifted and it gained N7.75 (about 4%).
Thanks man for this info

Gurus in the house-I need your help bought a substantial amount of Unity Bank shares at N7.90 on broker's advise-please confirm if this a good buy for short /medium term.
Certainly not in the favoured 5 nor top 10.  I suggest you look elsewhere unless you ar in for the long term.  Their profit margin is no way near what the top 10 banks realise.

UNLEASHED:
Hello guys! I am a newbie to stocks and shares and everytime I read the business thread, I see the topic "STOCK MARKET TIPS FOR NIGERIANS" The replies were too much that I find it difficult to figure where to start reading because I think it might help me. I started investing in shares last year. To me It's just as if i am depositing money to a fixed account. Please I need gurus here to help love-vendor me up. I will be looking forward to your reply.
There are numerous sites to visit and learn what is happening to your money,
www.proshareng.com, www.nigeriansecurities.com, www.nsepro.com, www.meristemng.com, www.ibtc.com.
Proshare offers authentic results compared to some stock broking web pages.
If you pay more attention you can make 50% ROI every year, much better than any fixed deposit in nigeria even with #10,000 especially as u need over 1M to get ~10% in fixed deposits.

@pumpiing,
Thanks , for the spreadsheet.

@Fatherof2,
Thanks a lot for asking us to be more open.
I got to this site August this year when i thought it was necessary to find another stream of income and choose the NSE.  However in the last few months there is less teaching and more speculation,

@Wanaj0,
I suppose call u Suru na so so ni suru, Well a big thank you to you too cos when you read Warren Buffet's idea its Fundamentals first. ROI next then invest, He has not really had a finger burnt, BUT am quicj to add for all reading He partnered with Charlie M, ? who said if you can predict conservatively where a coy should be from its published results and history you can then find overvalued stocks and undervalued ones and key in before it comes forth.

Summarily, I say have the following sectors in your portfolio
Banking sector--too many that i cant make suggestions except that Soludo had said 3 of them are on the margin and have asked on this thread which folks think those three are (I have Zenith and am eyeing PhB seriously cos they are favored in govt especially up north)
Manufacturing--
Maritime--Japaul
Insurance--Unic, Law union etc.
C&I-- visited their new office recently they have committed number cruchers and are hitting the major cities slowly but surely with their products,  They are bound to grow.

Last word spend some money and buy literature on investing, Improve yourself, turn your head into an asset.

Here we go again like defensive investors,  Book cooking,

All I can say is try and watch your portfolio and exit when you liver can't carry again.
Summary the Nigerian environment is still very volatile and people are making money out of it,  Unfortunate?,  Yes. Soludo needs to be El Rufai and Ribadu combined to be able to put adequate corrective/preventive measures in place.

Can people think which three banks Soludo says are marginal,

oga Wanaj0,
Where have you been? what do you have to say about all the bad news coming out today, crusader, cadbury e.t.c. You did warn people to be careful about the insurance sector
How do we move forward? Stock up on cash?
Though am not Wanja0 but have read with interest the posts. WEMA posted results and there was panic. Now its Crusader. Like Temmie suggests, they are on track and whatever they did for the 2nd QTR results is not working in there third, however Crusader is not a bad coy fundamentally. Short term?? Might not be hence i suggested a rotation of the list that was going on in the thread UNIC, Law union and Crusader,

As for Cadbury, Am learning how bad decisions can almost ruin a good coy that was fundamentally strong, Well its price never dropped below #25 even when brokers said sell cos its fair price was #12. So now that they have declared a loss they should be out of it by the last quarter. Cadbury is rising again,

For all asking what to invest in for the last quarter, take your time abeg, bargains are going to show if you are patient and study the market,

Guru's, at what price should i sell my lasaco (bought #2.75) and intercontinental (bought #26.5). I am new in the biz, i don't want to hold stocks, i am in it for profit, also wema (bought #10) , good advice needed. thx
Depends on your plan
If you only want to make say 15% profit per trade including the transaction charges (which leaves you with roughly 10%)
Then its only when Lasaco for instance hits #3.025 before you can realise this.
or Intercontinental hits # 29.15 etc. As at friday Intercontinental had reached a 10% profit including transaction charges,
Hope this makes sense

So sorry fellas,
UNIC is ok.
Thanks Walcom for that, on closer scrutiny the site posted wrong results and i got to read it because it was marked new results,
My previous calculations and suggestions were based on the data from nigeriansecurities site and my knowledge of UNIC

On further search i found this on proshare site

http://www.proshareng.com/myproshare/portal_news.php?id=3183

The proshare figures are correct.

Hello folks,
Just seen something disheartening about UNIC their results with a negative PAT
http://www.fidelityunionsecng.com/mediacenter.asp

With this that means they were not able to reach their target of last year.

Please check the site and confirm what is wrong oh,
Many thanks

Mr. Cee:
@ GEEES, EASIMONI AND PUMPING.

Some one suggested Staco Ins. as a good buy because of being liquid and some good fundamentals please guys do you see some of these fundamentals the price is not as high as the Top three.
I dont know much about STACO.
I found this about them online http://www.vanguardngr.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1608&Itemid=49
Think they want to raise additional funds.

@Geees
Could you please explain why unic is your 1st choice before law union and crusader. We can all learn something.
Unic is quietly making money.
It also has good fundamentals and in a unique business idea of health insurance
Results published show over 50% growth from this period last year.  According to Nigerian securities site their current PAT is half way near their projected PAT.
They have a smaller outstanding number of shares than the other two.  So the chances that they'll meet and surpass their target is higher.
Strictly for short term if you buy all three Unic , crusader and Law who do you think can easily appreciate in price if many people go into insurance as its going to happen?
I think its the one with lesser outstanding share,
Cheers

@Tonyjon,
Good luck. All the insurance stocks are on bid till at least end of the week, then profit takers will start to sell. Let the house know if you get any. However set your price limits.
Good idea set price limits that way you dont buy at the top especially for the short term.
I prefer this oreder though UNIC, Law Union and Crusader.

I guess nigerian living abroad can also participate on Stock Exchange, plz can some one enlighten me on that? embarassed
Find a good stockbroker meeting your taste and pocket, that should be able to provide online services.
Guys like BGL and Zenith(ZSL) have a minimum balance of between 1m to 5m not too sure.
APT for instance has a minimum of 250K, i gathered from nairaland that Cashcraft can take 100k.
They'll open a CSCS account. Have a nigerian address so you correspondence can be sent to you (even if it is that of a relation/friend).
I also suggest you find a stockbroker that has the same bank as you have which has online services so you can transfer money to them easily UBA, GTB, Zenith etc.
Transfer money to them and they'll go ahead and make the purchases.

The rest is like on the job or you keep asking

The SEC fees are 2.355% to buy
and 2.6475% to sell.
http://www.sec.gov.ng/cmocharges.htm

So for all those guys with fees over the sec rates please clarify with your brokers. Mine charges to the letter, 2.355 and 2.6475% not if the figures are rounded off you loose money ever.

Yodi,
SIGNATURE VERIFICATION
Get to your bank and ask for signature verification letter to the registrars.  You may be charged for the letter by the bank i think for postage and the service.  When the banks confirms your signature then the unit will be credited to you CSCS.

One more thing,
From this news of insurance coys allowed to do business, there isn't ACEN insurance (ACENICO).
One person asked about them earlier in this thread i think, its a shame ACEN didnt make it. Unless they have merged, in that case i dont know the new name.

@Wanaj0 and other Guru's

Based on the released result of Fidelity Bank, is it advisable to bail out immediately after TS? Fidelity it's about 45% of my portfolio, I bought at 10.60.

I'll like to turn the table around and makes Insurance coy 50% of my portfolio (it’s about 10% now)
Good idea but please do oyur research well before you go in notice the trend I would like to turn it to Law Union, Crusader, Unic i that order.

Cheers Wanaj0
However at the rate of growthof the NSE one day Leadway will need our money,
Waiting patiently and of course by then I would have some good money,
The Odukale's are good managers

Dunlop will continue to oscillate. 2007 result cannot suatin the price. I see it settling at around 3.00 to 3.5 by Mid next year
No worries but as i said before
More nigerians are buying and will buy cars and dunlop high profile is a tyre to beat for nigerian roads,
Just hope the boarders are tightened.
Profit they'll make
I prefer to find a coy buy into it and forget about it knowing that they'll make me smile in the long run, better than a mutual fund.

Mutual benefits is not so based on fundamentals. These is what I have for them based on Q-2 PAT of 450M. Projected PE is 20.38. However, MB is generally expected to exceed projections but I don't know what the basis of that is.

                                                               Price        Out. Share           Cap             Proj PAT        PE
MUTUAL BENEFITS ASSURANCE PLC 3.10 5.91           18.33 0.90 20.38
When you look at other methods of value investors,
* Good management
* Strategic business
* Good CONSISTENT profit margins

UNIC will beat MBenefits too,  UNIC is the biggest name in nigerian health insurance, Shonekan and Volker securities are doing well
To answer a few question of what the old will do asked in previous threads,
They get life insurance or health plans to enjoy according to Marslow's laws of needs,
So Insurance bring it on,
WHEN WILL LEADWAY AND IGI go public?

May and Baker did an offer last year that was oversubscribed. Don't think they took the over subscription though. They refunded mone but used a funny method. All existing shareholders got what they applied for but everyother person got a prorated allocation.

Now because of the delay in the conclusion of the offer they did not get the money ontime.That basically affected the 2006 forecast. Also they are about changing the utilisation of the funds. Also, the Vaccine project seems to be delayed. However, it is a solid company for the future. I expect that the 2008 results will be encouraging. Right now, I will consider it over valued except you are in for the Long Term like me. Don't forget that it rose as high as 16.00 this year!
Thanks Wanaj0 for this
May and B were on my radar mid year but could not explain why there were not responding, Well Insurance got me and am smiling now.
