My concern is why there seem to be few people left from each day's payment - Some here on Nairaland are sure they wrote their account details correctly. Also, why are the dates haphazard, 4th - 3rd - 11th - 8th - 5th, etc? Anyway, waiting for July 1st payment. |

Target the TL from 09 model upwards the previous models had Honda notorious transmission build quality, which made them fragile and susceptible to failure.
The vehicle is related to the Accord of same year meaning mechanical parts of the Accord are interchangeable with the vehicle. Sorry to disturb you again..some people here are advising us not to get the Acura TL09..that all Acura are not reliable, that we should go for Accord 09 instead..please what's your take on this |

Firstgentleman1: I remember when I was seeking admission. I took my first JAMB exam, had a pretty high score. It was time for post ume. I travelled a long distance to take the maiden CBT test of my "to be" school organised by the popular Jkk etc. That pilot test was a complete failure. A lot of aspirants did not see their scores when it was time to check online. I was on the School's page for a very long time, trying to check if the error had been rectified.
My dad told me of an uncle I had then. This my uncle assured me he was working on it. He told me I'd surely gain admission that year. Every time I called at night, he would assure me he was just coming from the senate building, that my case would be resolved. First admission list came out, my name was no where to be found. Second list, even a third list, my name was absent. Surprisingly, this my uncle, who also doubled as my source, did not even know when the first list was released. He just kept assuring me that my name would be on the admission list. It was when the second list got released that I told him I couldn't find my name. He just mumbled some words and that was the last I heard from him.
The next year, I geared up, even passing with a score far above that of the previous year. At this point, my dad called this so-called uncle and added more uncles, friends and associates to the "source list". I took the post ume again and this time my score fell on the merit side. Even when I assured my dad I was home and dry with my score, he wouldn't have non of it. I was in constant communication with the group of sources. They kept telling me they were working on it. There was this girl that had a not too good O'level result. She had a source that told her he was going to ensure she gains admission. She applied to study Mass Communication.
On my part, I was constantly checking the School's website for any sign of admission list. Then one fateful day, I checked and nothing was there, about 5 minutes later I checked back, and it was written in bold red colours that the admission list was out. I rushed to check. It involved typing either jamb reg number or name or you can just click a department and check under it. I immediately made use of the typing option. There on my phone's screen was my name. I was in at last. It was an euphoric moment. I immediately searched for the girl's name and saw she was admitted to study Sociology. I decided to run a little test. I called all my sources and they were all telling me that the list wasn't out yet. That it was still going to take a long time. One even said he just came from the VC office. He said they were only just compiling the list. One said I should relax, that he just went to submit my name. The smirk on my face was one of extreme satisfaction.
Then I went to the girl's house and asked her about her source. I intentionally concealed the admission news from her because I was sure she wouldn't know. She said her source said he was there live when her name was been written in the Mass Comm list, that it only remained for the list to be typed the next week, then admission would follow. I gave a very hearty laughter. She just looked at me like some slowpoke. I told her plainly that the admission list was out and she denied vehemently. Saying her source only said the names had been written but not yet typed. I only brought out my phone and typed her name. She looked dumbfounded. She called the source and that one was still insistent on the list not even being near ready. She ended the call and we talked about preparation.
It was not until I got to school, that I discovered that most of the University staff (Academic especially) usually have no concrete information at their disposal. There are a whole lot of info we students would even be privy to and they wouldn't have a single idea. I was a renowned "admission helper" while in school. Surprisingly, the person that was running the admissions for me then was a security personnel attached to the senate building. I had an uncle that was a dean and a member of senate council. This man did not for once help. Every admission period, this security guy will be the first to contact me and tell me to get my candidates' details ready. And it worked 100% of the time.
I left school and went for NYSC. My sweet PPA was influenced by a cleaner. At no cost at all. I started job hunting and got lucky to be employed as a support staff in a bank. A lot of people would tell me to help them. I'd just smile and tell them the truth straightaway, there is nothing I can do. Some would doubt you while some will understand after listening to explanations. They don't even know that the job is not what I'd pray for my enemy to get. But in a bid to keep body and soul together, man must still work regardless of the nature of job.
What am I saying with all the long epistles? I am speaking to the people that have various sources. As long as these sources are not your immediate family members (father, mother, brother or sister), they are likely to give you information you'd like to hear just for clout. So far, I have not seen anyone that has claimed to have gotten any info from any of the lower echelon staff. These people are very harmed with vital information. There are people claiming links to GGMs, COOs and the rest. I believe these ones minimally. Sources can be highly distracting. But the fact is that you'd know a legit source when you see one. Take for instance, Jarus' sources, they just got back to him on possible timeline for APL disbursement and that was it. It was even mentioned here that the way some sources were hush hush about the processes after interview, it was an indication of an instruction within the tower from the management.
In conclusion, not everyone will get this APL, but if you do get it and someone you know or an acquaintance you've made does not, please don't sever ties with them. May who God favour rest on be well favoured. Amen. I read the entire comment and it is so well written. Many of the favours we attribute to people today - friends, uncles, families etc., are entirely by the grace of the Almighty God. Your final paragraph is sacrosanct... "not everyone will get this APL, but if you do get it and someone you know or an acquaintance you've made does not, please don't sever ties with them." |

gwighalo: I left the UK a couple of years ago having completed an MSc degree, top of my class. I felt quite devastated that I would return to Nigeria not having enough time to apply for jobs. While some of us were busy sorting it out in libraries, a couple of guys were resign to accepting whatever the outcome of studies, and were busy applying for jobs like mad.
I started a good buying and selling hustle, and was able to secure a job with an E&P coy 15 months after returning. I have had funded opportunities to pursue PhD since then but I have declined because they were geared towards addressing problems in Europe. I soon realized that returning back isn’t a death sentence after all. And if I must pursue a PhD or other degrees, it should be one that would solve one or some of the numerous challenges here in Nigeria. Novel solutions including strong regulations that would address issues like waste management problem; how we can all enjoy a clean and healthy environment.
It’s a big shame that the issue of banditry is a mockery because we still adopt archaic approach; that’s why the faceless guys could hit easily and run to the depth of our forest, causing ‘Sevia pains.’ I have imagined the design and implementation of a long range motion detector that could span several kilometers, deploying radar systems/radio wave/etc with several base stations, with high resolution smart cameras with IP addresses and facial recognition. Something that would watch the nooks and crannies of our forest—so much prospects from such projects.
Also, it would shock you to know how some of the major players in our O&G industry are milking us dry due to poor hydrocarbon accounting/non declaration of actual crude produced on daily basis. If one must think of an approach for this country, one must factor-in policies. Non effective policies/no policy at all, and terrible culture are the major problems affecting our country.
I think it’s necessary for one to study this country deeply and decide on an issue to address before thinking of further studies.
I am happy that I came back because I have gone ahead to solving massive massive problems for my family and friends; things that wouldn’t have been easy for me to do if I had remain abroad. The best one could get as entry ( often, your experience in naija dont count) in the UK is about 28k pounds to 36k pounds/annum for high paying jobs ( Jaguar Land Rover, British Petroleum, etc). That comes down to about 25/33k after tax. Factor-in other expenses, then you are very average and basically a backpacker if you reside anywhere near London( London Burroughs, Reading, Cambridge, etc) as accomodation can be very expensive.
Also, anything can happen. An employer may discontinue sponsoring your work permit, it may be difficult to find another. You may become desperate and opt for a lower paying job if you are lucky enough to find one in-time before expiration of your visa. This is applicable in the US and other countries as well.
A Job with NNPC isn’t bad at all if it will still amount to finding a job after earning a foreign degree. You can be on the job and pursue a masters degree, on the side, if you are so keen about it. One will have lot of flexibility working in an organization like NNPC. You will learn a lot including the politics in our energy sector, and if you are observant and smart enough, you will find lot of issues to address. You can then come up with a framework/solution and think of how to implement it by pursuing further degree or by other means.
One shouldn’t go do a masters/PhD just for the prospects of better jobs or living best live abroad—you may succeed or fail at that, and you would’ve missed the point. You will derive satisfaction knowing that you addressed a problem spot-on or that you tried your best in an attempt.
Lastly, I know a couple of guys who came from the UK and US for this interview, and are praying they get APL. My two cents Thanks so much for this. I have been battling with myself for weeks now. I have an offer for a fully funded MS (Spring 2020) in US at hand, and I'm almost positive I'll be called for NNPC...I've been continuously battling with trying to make a correct life decision... I really love this country, and can't think of settling anywhere else. I think I'll just ditch the offer jare, and pick up the letter when it comes, if it comes. Thanks for this insight. |

apalemighty: Don't play premium if u are a new player in the market. Unless u are into fashion. To get a demand baseline, u have to cut price to increase supply. U can outrightly keep Increasing the price from time to time.
People need to taste Ur brand and see quality, so striking with u won't be a problem. But don't you think there is a limit to which you can reduce cost.. then you can't also price your goods far below the market average..you'd have to deal with regulators, perceived "fakeness" of your brand, proliferation of imitations and so on.. Also, if you enter the market with a very low price, and you then decide to take a price increase after some time,..how do you ensure you don't loose share to competitors.. lol classical marketing chicken and egg dilemma.. |
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Apply For 2019 NNPC Graduate Trainee And Experience Hire by geektrovert: 8:32am On Aug 06, 2019 |
BMedia: It is important to first establish that you have the capacity to compete in the premium segment because that space is inhabited by more established brands with sizable R & D budgets, high brand visibility and more capacity to absorb shocks. Inability to do that would drown the visibility of your product in that segment.
That said, considering the recent inflation which midwifed the birth and rise of several cheaper alternative products (especially FMCG's), I opine it would be a safer bet to start in the mass market if you're not already an established brand with significant market share, and then gradually introduce premium lines/variations of your product to secure those higher margins as you progressively establish brand presence. Indomie did the same by introducing their premium "Relish" line of noodles while maintaining the classic versions for the lower market spectrum.
If you're already an established brand however, it could be quite rewarding to take the plunge into the premium segment provided strategic marketing is involved and all T's are crossed. My 2 cents. "...with sizable R & D budgets, high brand visibility and more capacity to absorb shocks. Inability to do that would drown the visibility of your product in that segment. " No wonder the big brands continuously dish out money for multiple advertisements and release new lines of product. Only the strong will survive in this segment..lol Thanks man! |

CsRockefeller: You are referring to the profit maximisation or cost minimisation objective for the firm.
Remember, in a monopolistic competition, the firm can only influence either price or quantity and not both.
What many firms are trying to achieve right now is cost minimisation, in this scenario (mass market)
Here is the reason; purchasing power is still low amongst the vast populace and don't forget, those goods you mentioned up there are consumers goods not luxury goods where the few rich pay top premium.
I remember sometime ago, NDIC published a report saying that about less than a 1,000 Nigerian's have the largest share in Bank deposits (current and savings).
Hypothetically speaking, if I sell coca cola at N100, and the ratio of the rich to the middle class is 1 to 10, it would be easier to sell a packet of coca cola to 10 persons at N100 each to sum N1000 than to convince 1 man to buy a packet, and even if I persuade him, the multiplier effect may not be achieved.
For this reason, the law of Demand would not hold here (the lower the price the higher the quantity demanded) because the rich class loves to buy the goods no one is buying and the goods/products you listed up there don't strike as a luxury good/product. Therefore, the mass market strategy, would be the best to achieve.
To cite a practical example, Pepsi was once sold for N120, the masses withdrew, they had to bring it back to a N100 even with more quantity. Coke on the other hand couldn't cope, so they had to reduce the quantity to keep up with the same price. They both seek the same objective but now, capital is speaking, and I believe 7up Co. has d edge over NBC.
The Economy eventually decides which is the best method to adopt. Wow. Great exposition! So it is valid to assert that consumer goods and luxury goods don't play by the same rules. Also, because purchasing power is at an all-time low, it will be wise to sell via quantity rather than brand (perceived higher quality)...hmmm I just see what many firms are doing, having a consumer line and also a premium line. So they have parallel branding, parallel advertising, and two different strategy. Like another poster mentioned.. indomie brand and their new relish brand. Why I even started wondering..I just realised bigi cola has taken significant market share from Cocacola.. yet almost everyone accept that Cocacola tastes better than Bigi Cola. Thanks for the response! |
