How could he resign and at the same time apply for a visa? It means he'll not return to Nigeria thereafter. What next? Way forward? |

LagosismyHome: Going from one BSC to another BSC is always difficult to convince VO especially when your work experience is then Teaching . There are shorter nursing program if u have a BSC that you dont need to start from 1st year again, making it even harder to sell .......
You need to connect the Dots (as in your past and future) and quickly because the interview can be less than 1 minute . I think when he said tell me everything about yourself .... At that point you should have said i graduated with BSC Microbiology but i have always loved Nursing and then start your selling of yourself and the nursing until the VO said ENOUGH .........
Instead of saying resigning you should have volunteered in a hospital, gaining work experience as you do your application and then say that instead What can I do now? |

LagosismyHome: I don tell you say if its me i would rewrite it all making it more personal instead of these generic answer.... you know u are going from one bachelor to another, that hard to sell so incorporate like your work experience to for example why nursing NOW not before. Linking the two degree maybe through work or life experiences..... why the school that your answer for me its subtraction to be rewritten Ok sir Can I tell the VO that NCCU is a black America university ( which is tru)... Can I use this statement? |

LagosismyHome: I dont mean it like that...what i mean is if you start off answering well , maybe VO would not bother asking for your test scores (it 50/50 which of d questions asked) ......so they key is to start off well with really good answers that what i mean by cover up, i guess i should have said make up for instead ..
I feel if your answers are generic and not going well then VO ask for test scores which are then low, it all goes downhill from there but nothing to redeem it to show you are a strong candidate Ok sir, thanks Help me check the transcript well, any addition or subtraction? |

Mma800: 1. My dear, In my presence somebody was denied Visa because she said US was a developed country when she was asked 'Why US?'
2. I believe your No 5 question was 'how did u hear about NCCU?' and not 'Brief me your application process?' Please be specific, all that long story is not needed.
3. Choose a personal reason why you chose NCCU (no 4 question)
4. I don't think they are interested in the Uk schools you applied to unless you were specifically asked whether you did/ didnt consider UK schools.
Good luck Thanks Concerning why US? Put more light please About NCCU, personal reason like wat |

LagosismyHome: Very generic answer, i thought i was reading a textbook. Nothing personal or stricking out ....your toefl is very low so you need better quality answers to cover that up . Show more passion about why nursing , relate the health care back to nigeria. How it can improve the lives of our people dying like chicken. ...... nobel professional is a no no but that just me
For example Microbiology working with patients result and closely with that made me want to even have a closer patient contact hence nursing .... (random thing that came to my head) . .. try to relate these two better. Using this ur answers as a basis , rewrite it making it more personal and not textbook ish Thanks for your comments..... How can cover up for my TOEFL result? Please, how? |

pgiddy: Take for example, you are asked how many schools did you apply to and you say one. My dear, thats a turn off. Therefore try and apply to more than one school if possible like 4. Another example is, when you are asked "who is sponsoring you" and you say "i am sponsoring myself". It wont work. OR you are asked "why did you apply to this school", and you said "it is because a friend told me about it". Those are examples of what i meant. I may be wrong though, but i heard 2 people say things like the first two above and i knew that they would be denied and they were. That first question.... How many schools did you apply too? My answer Na one oooo. I only apply to one school and I was accepted. My interview is next week, what is going to be my answer and how can I answer the question now? Please help |

pgiddy: I would be selfish if i dont post the transcript of my visa interview. My interview was for 9.00 but i was eventually interview by a young lady at window 5 around past 10. The woman actually gave the guy before me a denial, but i just trusted God that i would not be denied. As the guy left and i was about stepping forward, the woman asked for permission to leave, and she left for about 5-7 minutes. I was just praying that i should not be redirected to the other VO guy at window six, who had been denying everybody visa (as far as i know). The woman eventually came back and this was how my interview went. Me: Good Morning VO: Morning VO: Where are you going to in the US? Me: I am going to Montana State University VO: What do you want to go and do? Me: I am going for a Masters in Mathematics at Montana State University VO: What did you do in your bachelors degree? Me: I had my bachelors degree in Mathematics VO: What year did you finish school? Me: 2012. VO: Where do you work? Me: I worked at a research company? VO: What is your job description at the company? Me: I carry out mathematical and statistical analysis for the firm, i train clients on the use of mathematical and statistical softwares, i interact with clients who come with their research work. VO: Who is sponsoring you? Me: I am being sponsored by the University and the department. I got a full scholarship together with a GTA. VO: (She made an expression of surprise on her face). What made you qualified for this scholarship? Me: The school was impressed with my statement of purpose, my transcript and my GRE score. In addition, i also had a Skype interview with two professors in the department (i mentioned the names of the professors) VO: What did you have in your GRE? Me: I had 150 in verbal, 159 in quantitative and 4.0 in analytical writing. (She then asked me to pass my GRE score, which she looked at) VO: How many schools did you apply to? Me: I applied to IIT, FIT, MSU and New Mexico Institute of Tech. VO: What made you choose MSU? Me: I chose the school because MSU offers a Mathematics programme that suits my career goals and research interest. I was also fascinated with the fact that the department of Mathematics and Statistics are under one department which is the department of Mathematical sciences. Hence, I have the opportunity of combining some statistics courses together with my mathematics courses without having to spend more than two years. I also have a senior colleague and friend in the school who is also a graduate student who spoke highly of the school. VO: Okay, i would be approving your visa, make sure you ................. blah blah blah My advice: pray pray and pray, be confident, watchout! there are some answers you should never give, read nairaland thread over and trust GOD. Thumbs up to guys who also posted their transcripts here, and a big thanks to DareFadi, your words of encouraging was greatly helpful. Congratulations.. Ideally, I should have used WES but my understanding of WES is that it takes a lot of time, as such I need another evaluation. But my problem is that I need a more friendly evaluation, by that I mean I don't want an evaluation that will slash my GPA into two, lol. I have heard about IERF, FCSA and others, Please can anyone here refer me to a credential evaluation that is as friendly as WES or even has a better evaluation than WES, I promise that person a bottle of e-Heineken lol.
