Once again the people prevailed in unison without tribe, religion, or creed divide. I have always said it. The day We rise up against bad government, looting of public funds, equity bias, not holding bad leaders and citizen accontable e.t.c just like this, then Nigeria would have begun real stride towards real development in all it spheres. Until we rise up in unison to say enough is enough to bad rulers in Nigeria and decide a good leader, the country will not change. Did you see the recent budget the president submitted to the Senate? Did you not see that the highest amount (120 billion) was allocated to themselves. And they were laughing happily even when the president was making the presentation amidst pronunciation mistake? Who sponsored this Endsars protest? - some alleged it was the Yahoo boys (onlines scammers, ritualist, criminals and the likes) Can't thesame people sponsor a better protest for good governance that will go viral and international like this? If thesame people cannot sponsor such good protest that can lead to a better Nigeria, then there is a big question mark on the onus of this Endsars protest and the intention of the sponsors. |

( foorgive any typo error pls) I had wanted to post it here but the page was encrypted so that I cannot copy and post. Nigeria people, you need to read this your self from vanguard. In my opinion, this is the clear hand of international communities and our reckless rulers to bad leadership in Nigeria. It is indeed a shock ! This may not hit front page, but the few eyes that will see this today may be convince why (in my opinion) this country should just go her separate ways for peace. Could this be why the yourobas recently started agiting for their own country? Or was it because the government was planning to send debt managers take over yuroba states, as the data released recently showed most states in the south west of Nigeria will be in serious debt after recurrent expenditure ? Please read it in that link : https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/09/fuel-electricity-nigeriall-incur-wrath-of-imf-world-bank-if-we-revert-to-old-prices-fg/ |

Why should a Restructured Nigeria Be so Choleric to the North? editorAugust 21, 2020 3:02 Am Ignatius’Nat Muotoh argues that the only guarantee for peace and development in Nigeria is to restructure the country To some Nigerians, the word Restructure is so scary a word that they’ll rather plunge the nation to ruination, than jettison this unworkable, and warped system that has been the bane of this nation for far too long. This selfish and irrational choice is inexplicable, and a case of “No turkey ever votes for Christmas.” On the other hand, I’ll add that, “No ram ever votes for Sallah.” But peace, development and growth can only be achieved when both the turkey or the ram have that notion of freedom and independence. That freedom to decide how to live and interact with each other. Nigeria, being a creation of the British in January 1914 under the tutelage of Sir Frederick Lugard, was not really designed to be a successful nation as some of us were made to believe. The amalgamation of the Northern and the Southern Protectorate was simply for commercial purposes rather than creating a nation in the true sense of the word. This was simply the aim of British ‘ab initio’, in order to keep and maintain her influence post independence. Nigeria was not designed to work as a peaceful nation for the benefit of the people of Nigeria. The European Experience Events in Europe following the end of the 2nd World War in 1945, triggered the collapse of numerous multi-ethnic states in both Eastern and Western Europe. Multi-ethnic European nations that were once held together by powerful dictators, disintegrated along ethnic lines. A closer look at European nations today, show very clearly that there’s no single multi-ethnic state where one group is positioned to dominate the other that have not disintegrated or broken into pieces. Not one. They’ve all broken up along ethnic lines. The German attempt to dominate the rest of Europe, led to the 2nd World War. While Europe was the main theatre of the war, one will not be wrong to refer to that war as the 2nd European Ethnic War. Colonies of Africa and Asia were virtually sucked into that war by virtue of being the colonies of either Britain, France,or Italy. East and West Germans that are ethnically of the same people and share the same language; were split along the lines of communism and capitalism by the victorious Russian and the Western Alliance at the end of WW II. These two German nations, eventually reunited into one Federal Republic of Germany in 1990. Such is the power of an ethnic identity. It is interesting to note that prior to the 1st and 2nd World Wars, the Roman Empire dominated Europe until its eventual collapse which historians have agreed, was also as a result of ethnic resistances against the Romans domination. Communist Russia experimented on uniting multi-ethnic nations by dividing societies into capitalists and the proletariats. Thus deluding themselves that ethnicity can effectively be swept under the carpet. But this is what followed later? The Communist edifices in Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, and the big brother USSR, eventually collapsed as a result of the same multi-ethnic frictions that reared its ugly heads in 1993. The nation state of Czechoslovakia was originally made up of two ethnic groups- the Czech and the Slovaks. These two ethnic groups, separated peacefully on the 1st January 1993. The former, is comprised of 10.6 million people and the latter 5.4 million people. Added together, they’re not up to the total population of Lagos State. Yet, as a result of the powers of ethnic nationalism, they split for peace since there can not be two masters in the same house. Yugoslavia with a population of 23.2 million in 1991, and barely more than the population of Lagos today, eventually broke up into six countries the same year, and all along ethnic lines, namely: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia. Between June 1991 and April 1992, four of the republics declared independence (only Serbia and Montenegro remained federated), but the status of ethnic Serbs outside Serbia and Montenegro, and that of ethnic Croats outside Croatia, remained unsolved as we speak. This again, show the problems encountered in multi-ethnic nations with different languages and cultures. The USSR has since been broken along ethnic lines identified by their respective languages. In the decades after it was established, the Russian- dominated Soviet Union grew into one of the world’s most powerful and influential states and eventually encompassed into 15 republics namely-Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Belorussia, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Latvia, Chechen, Lithuania. The dissolution of the Soviet Union was the process of internal disintegration within the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic (USSR). It began in the late 1980s with growing unrest within the various constituent republics, and ended under the rule of Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev on December 26, 1991, when the Supreme Soviet voted the USSR (itself) out of existence. In Europe; the two best examples of fairly stable multi-ethnic states, are the United Kingdom and Switzerland. The former is led by reasonable men and women, who permitted regional autonomy to the other ethnic groups comprising the Irish, Scots and the Welsh. The English only dominate Westminster, while giving the other ethnic groups complete regional autonomies. They know that the consequences of dominating the others through centralising the powers of the British regions to London, will lead to a demand from the Wales , Scotland and the Northern Ireland for a full independence. The latter country Switzerland, has four ethnic groups. Each of them rotates the presidency annually through seven cantons that constitute the federating units. All the four languages (German, French, Italian and Romansh) of the four ethnic groups are recognized as official languages. Now, let’s turn our attention to Canada to see how that country manages her ethnic nationalities. Quebec is the only full French-speaking province, aside from a little section of New Brunswick, while the other seven provinces in Canada are English-speaking. Yet, Canada maintains a bilingual status for the sake of Quebec. Furthermore, each of the provinces is largely self-governing. It is therefore remarkable to state that what we call ethnic groups in Nigeria, are actually known and treated as independent ethnic nations in Europe. I’ll then argue that, it is those who seem to have no political savvy about a multi-ethnic nation like Nigeria that are optimistic on believing that Nigeria will work and develop peacefully. May I here remind the reader that, there’s nowhere in the developed world (Western democracies), that the white man accepts domination by another white man. The Big Question The question then is; how can Nigeria, a multi-ethnic developing nation, with over 500 languages spoken; be expected to succeed, live in peace and in harmony, when such experiments have failed in more advanced and developed nations of Europe. Such success will be miraculous. Political pundits are still busy working, and believing that Nigeria with her multi-ethnic nationalities will be the exception, and by that succeed where advanced European nations have failed. Finally; for those clamouring for a true Restructured Nigeria which is of course the best of the worst scenario, I’ll argue; based on the experiences of the European multi-ethnic nations, that a restructured Nigeria, is better than a disintegrated Nigeria. A restructured Nigeria is ‘the minimum’ requirement for achieving peace and harmony that have eluded the nation since the amalgamation. It is the ‘half loaf that is better than no loaf’. There’s no doubt that the proponents of Federal System, currently in place, have no political savvy about Nigeria. They have utterly failed to come up with solutions to stop the current genocide carried out by the Boko Haram and the Herdsmen on Nigerians. Not minding the illegal but officially condoned arms in the hands of killer herdsmen roaming the country. They have failed to understand that Nigeria has been undergoing the strains of a forced union, and that the country must be peacefully and properly restructured in other for all the component units to know peace. Failing that, Nigeria may be heading towards an avoidable and very nasty disintegration. Europe Solutions to the problems of multi-ethnic nationalism, is what those who understand the problems with Nigeria, are asking for. That’s not too much to ask for. Not surprising though, there are those who are trying to ‘re-invent the wheel’. Those are the ones trying to prove that Europe solutions in solving Multi-ethnic frictions were flawed, and that a federating system will succeed in Nigeria. Those are the ‘turkeys’ that will not vote for Christmas. Again, why will they if they’re amongst those political elites, allegedly earning over seventeen million Naira (N17 million) monthly as renumeration. Ironically, the current federal system practiced in Nigeria, is a mix of both the American and the British democratic systems. But here, one is unable to show you in Britain or in America, where one ethnic group is allowed to dominate the others. The fifty-two federating states in America are totally independent from Washington. There is a similar arrangement here in the United Kingdom with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland having control over their affairs. But here in Nigeria; there are people still arguing vehemently that a decrepit, structurally-flawed, and crisis-prone artificial contraption of the British, only needs the support of every Nigerian to make it work. To these dreamers, and those who seem to have no political savvy about Nigeria and her multi-ethnic population, I will only say “Wake Up and be real”. FG Pushes for Rapid Nationwide Adoption of Gas for Transportation editorAugust 5, 2020 12:48 Am By Chineme Okafor The federal government has said it is pushing fast for Nigerians to adopt natural gas as an alternative to petrol and diesel for transportation vehicles. In this regard, it stated that it has set up a committee to drive the adoption of Autogas and natural gas vehicles in the country. Justice Derefaka, who is the Technical Adviser (TA) on Gas Business and Policy Implementation to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Timipre Sylva, disclosed this in a statement. Derefaka, is also the Program Coordinator for the Nigerian Flare Gas Commercialisation Programme (NFGCP). He explained that a meeting was recently held in Abuja between the Committee of the National Gas Expansion Programme (NGEP) and some stakeholders in the oil and gas industry, in which the decision to press forward on the mainstreaming of gas for transport in Nigeria was reached. According to him, the NGEP was inaugurated by Sylva in January 2020, as the mechanism to boost domestic utilisation of natural gas within the short and medium term. “As part of the programme, an Autogas and Natural Gas Vehicles (NGVs), that is Autogas vehicles powered by liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and Natural Gas Vehicles (NGVs), an alternative fuel vehicle that uses compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG) sub-committee was constituted with the sole aim to drive the adoption of Autogas and NGVs as an alternative fuel in Nigeria,” he added. He noted that as part of the federal government’s strategy to re-position the country’s gas sub-sector, the ministry commenced the implementation of critically conceived initiatives in the sector. These, he explained would foster efficiency and attract investment in the gas value chain. Nine priority projects to harness the country’s gas resource, he added have been mapped out for execution. They included, rapid growth of the LPG/CNG/LNG market, development of support-infrastructure for the gas sector, investment and domestic growth of the sector, as well as the promotion of natural gas usage in Nigeria as an alternative fuel choice. “It is expected that this will stimulate economic growth, further improve our energy mix, drive investments and provide jobs in Nigeria,” Derefaka stated. He further said that the NGEP would collaborate with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to co-locate Autogas and NGV outlets at its retail service stations across the country. According to him, the NGEP will issue an Expression of Interest (EoI) form to bonafide parties to participate in an open and competitive auction with the intent to invest in Autogas and Natural Gas Vehicles (NGVs) re-fuelling stations. “The auction will present a significant opportunity for domestic developers and their technology providers and/or original equipment manufacturers (OEMS) alike to participate in a unique initiative geared towards deepening natural gas usage in Nigeria. “Successful bidders will be granted a Permit to Situate Station (PtSS) underpinned by a lease agreement with the FGN acting through Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Retail (NNPC Retail). “Approximately 46 of NNPC Retail owned and operated refuelling stations spread across the 36 states of the federation are available on an ‘as is, where is’ basis through the auction. The purpose of inviting this EoI is to encourage the applicant to co-locate and set up Autogas/NGVs refuelling stations and enable scaling up of the gas utilisation potential in the transport sector by replacing costly and environmentally unfriendly diesel and petrol which are almost 100 per cent imported,” he added. Similarly, the Chief of Staff to Sylva, Mr. Moses Olamide disclosed that the planned introduction of CNG as an alternative fuel would cut the cost of transportation of goods and commuters in Nigeria. lexy2014:You are correct in many sense. Yes they can. In fact they should. WATCH OUT ! I SAY, WATCH OUT !! |
lexy2014:Because it would be easy for the people to know where to direct their anger. Since the government will be more closer to the people. Yes, it will lead to reprisal attacks from the supporters of Akpabio and his tribes men would want to fight back. I am telling you. Remember what happened sudan ? |
Until we Nigerians from every language and religion begins to appreciate people with high moral values aandnd competence rather than religion and nepotism ; until we make move and take action against people with immoral values and questionable characters, even if they are are our blood relations. I fear for this country. Even if we break into smaller nations there will be serious war and blood bath in many of the newly formed countries because of corruption. Imagine the serious riot that would have occured if Niger Delta if ND has been its own country. Although such war will later bring good governance at the expense of innocent lives. PLEASE PEOPLE, LET US VOTE WISELY EVEN IF IT IS AN INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE IN 2023. What is wrong if you did the right thing once without any influence of tribe or religion? From now let us be on the look out for a candidate who can take action against these evil people in government. Someone who can boldly appoint men of high moral standard and values into powerful positions in government - this will have a good chain reactions of the beginning of good leadership in Nigeria |
OPINION : Fredrick Nwabufo: Asari Dokubo, Edwin Clark, ND Avengers; why no outrage over iniquity at NDDC? There is no executive or administrative corruption without civil partnerships. What we often see on the surface as corruption in government agencies is deeply tap-rooted — with connectors to social crusaders, polemists, activists and civic groups. Corruption in Nigeria has a long value chain. The probe of the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) over serious allegations of corruption by the national assembly is two peas in a pod. The NDDC is like a cookie jar, those probing and those under probe all have their hands stuck in it. Last Thursday, Kemebradikumo Pondei, acting managing director of the NDDC, stormed out of a session with the house of representatives panel investigating the agency. He accused Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, chairman of the house committee on NDDC, of complicity in the fraud at the commission. He said the committee chairman cannot sit in judgment on a case in which he is a suspect. A similar spectacle played out at the senate a few weeks ago. The NDDC management and Godswill Akpabio, minister of Niger Delta affairs, as a coterie, traded recriminations with the senate committee probing the agency for alleged N81.5 billion fraud. Peter Nwaoboshi, chairman of the senate committee on NDDC, accused Akpabio of commandeering a N300 million fencing contract from the commission. The minister, not to be out-shamed, accused the senator of expropriating a N3.6 billion contract using 11 phony companies. Do you think anything worth the time of Nigerians – beyond the entertainment value of the live sessions – can fall out of these probes? I do not think so. I have witnessed enough probes by the national assembly over the years — even with all the theatrics and fireworks – to predict how these ones will taper out. Now, this is the crux of the probes. The probes are essentially about deal-brokering. The audit of the operations of the NDDC from 2001 and 2019 will bring to the fore lots of interred skeletons involving those at the national assembly and those at the composite quarters of national corruption. Though I believe the process of the audit is already tainted, it must go on. So, it is a convenient tactic to hold the dirt of the interim management of the NDDC supervising the audit in the air for an eventual entente. Really, what is happening now is a crossfire of blackmail and intimidation. It is the threat of mutually assured destruction before the ‘’meeting at the table of kindreds’’. The probes will go the way of other probes. Nevertheless, the revelations from these probes should be ammunition for all Nigerians and those directly affected by the sleaze at the NDDC; in this case, the people of the Niger Delta. Why is Chief Edwin Clark, the foremost Ijaw leader, taciturn? Why is he not spitting fire like he often does when issues of resource control and marginalisation of the Niger Delta are on the table? Or is the mindboggling thievery allegedly perpetrated by the sons of the region of no consequence because they are natives? Where is Asari Dokubo, the defender of the Niger Delta, who has been vociferous on all national issues? Is the sleaze at the NDDC not worth raising hell and threatening apocalypse over? Where are the Niger Delta Avengers? Is the NDDC corruption bazaar not a cause to undertake a peaceful citizen action for? Or do the avengers only avenge when it involves a certain Sani, Musa, Taiwo or Nnamdi? Why is there no outrage in the Niger Delta? This same silence of the Niger Delta was palpable during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan which was in throes of cosmic allegations of corruption. So, it is clear here that the agitations of the region over the years have a heavy ethnic burden. Really, we do not hate corruption. We only hate where the corrupt person comes from. Let me rephrase that. Corruption matters to us only when the ethnic background of the accused is in the equation. The Niger Delta losing its voice at this time of great consequence for the region will always haunt it. Fredrick Nwabufo is a writer and journalist Twitter: @FredrickNwabufo

Good day everyone. Does anyone here still remember one prophesy a nairalander placed here some months back? It appears so true, but now looks like a lie. So I wanted to remind him ( I have forgetten his moniker). He said something big will happen in June this year 2020 that would shake Nigeria. That an event would occur that would draw the attention of the world. That it would almost cause a violent crises that would make the comity of nation to install a Yoruba man as a president. He claimed God has shown him before, but because of doubt he did not paste it on NL. That he was posting it then because he saw that same dream (abi na prophesy sef) the second time. A lot of person commented and supported him. Why others said they would screen shot it and remind him when his prophesy failed. And it looks like his prophecy was fake after all. Who still remember? Because I actually bookmarked it but I cannot find it again in my history. |

Rayd502:They have barked for too long, It is time to act. I guess the economy is biting hard on everyone. And there is already the realistic prediction that Nigeria may fall again into her worst economic recession ever in history. It will not be feasible again with this DSTV pattern of subscription than to opt for PAYG. DSTV has its stake holders within the government and these guys will fight to keep the old status. It is left for our rep to keep a thick skin and stand for her people they represent. But I am sure, at the end , one of the Satelite tv will start PAYG. Because the hash economy will sponteneously push it. And the first one to do it will gain a market edge which may force DSTV to humble themselve to do PAYG.- This is my submission. |
house of representatives committee has insisted that cable and satellite television service providers in the country must introduce a pay-as-you-go subscription plan for customers. The house ad hoc committee, which is investigating service providers over their high tariffs, said the pay-per-view plan is to address the yearnings of Nigerians. The house had in March resolved to investigate complaints about high tariffs and monopolised bouquets on the cable subscription service. The green chamber is specifically probing the Digital Satellite Television (DSTV), a South Africa-based company owned by MultiChoice, for high tariffs and restricting Nigerian customers to prepaid plans. At the committee hearing on Thursday, Unyime Idem, the committee chairman, said excuses on why DSTV and other service providers have not introduced the PAYG plan are not tenable. “We have already taken a decision that pay-as-you-go is not going back,” he said. “We only called you to rub minds with you so that you can tell us what it takes; Nigerians have spoken to us and the challenge they threw at us is, no matter what it takes, that they need pay-as-you-go. “So I want you to have it at the back of your mind that it is pay-as-you-go. That is the duty we owe the people that we are representing, and we are not going back.” Armstrong Idachaba, acting director-general of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), told the committee that the agency has on many occasions compared the tariffs in Nigeria with those of other African countries and found out that Nigeria’s rates are much lower in some cases.
